I posted this in my journal, but it was too good not to share.

My DSis had had type 2 Diabetes for just over 8 years. On medication to help control. With some gentle 'nudging' from me, her DD & her Endocrinologist, she joined WW in November. She was not horribly overweight - about 45 - 50 lbs. He checked her blood in Dec, Jan, Feb & on Wednesday. In Feb, he took her off 1 med. This month she is off all diabetes meds & he said she is officially NOT diabetic. Says she still needs to continue what she is doing, but does not expect her to become diabetic again. He has been seeing this happen with numerous patients & another Dr (heart) has with his patients as well. They are now recommending to all of their patients to join WW. He told her it isn't that she's lost a ton of weight (about 17 lbs) or started exercising. It is something about the way the food is balanced. The 2 Drs are hoping to get a grant to do a full study on this as they are having heart & diabetes patients do a complete turn around in their health & bloodwork.

Every one of my 5 siblings became diabetic at 48 - so this really gives me hope!!!

Julie - what wonderful news!!! My niece is Type I diabetic and will always have to live with it, unfortunately. It's the saddest thing to see a stick thin eight year old counting carbs and taking insulin injections so I am very happy for your Dsis! What an accomplishment!!!!

That is so great for you sister! It's amazing really that something seemingly so small can help with a major medical condition. My mom has just been diagnosed as pre-diabetic.And she has decided to get serious about losing some weight. She is probably in need of losing 40 lbs. And my sister and i are both doing WW. I've been encouraging her to do it with us. I think I will tell her about your sister to encourage her.

Thanks for sharing!
