Kind of a bummer for the ones who were hoping for free dining the whole month of August though.:guilty:

Good reason to move your dates up 1 day. If you get there on the 22nd, your should still get free dining for your entire stay, if it's 10 days or less...at least that was the plan last year.

This is what I was afraid might happen. We are planned to be there Aug. 15 -24. Since the 40% promotion was not offered for most of August (starting 8/22), I was afraid the earlier part of the month would be excluded. I had the pin but could not use it since we arrive on Aug. 15. If this is going to be announced I wish they would just do it and end our suffering.

Free dining may return
We ain't guaranteeing anything. If we were the wagering type, however, we'd bet that free dining will be returning for travel dates 8/26 through 9/22, if booked 4/12 through 6/24. As always, those dates are subject to change.

It appears to be just a guess, and a good guess, but nothing the rest of us couldn't have figured out on our own. Also, doesn't say that it couldn't be for more than the listed dates, just that those key dates are likely to be included. Guess we'll just have to see.:confused3

Does this mean that if i already have my vacation booked and this offer does come out that i will not be eligible for it since it sounds like you have to book between the dates of 4/12 through 6/24, or would i be able to just get it added on to my booked package already...that is if this turns out to be true.

While there will be some folks excited, there will be alot of us disappointed too. Especially us mid-August travellers. But also note the September dates....so no extending into October this year, so us early August travellers will not be the only disappointed people if this holds true.

I think it may be true. They are probably saying "may" and "no guarentee" because anything can changed and then people will start blaming them for false information.

You'll be like me....we will not be able to participate if these dates are correct. Also folks planning the end of September will not be able to participate unless they move their dates back. I'm not happy right now, but will not cancel until I see it in writing. Universal is looking like it may be my August vacation destination before moving to the BCV with my points. We were planning 4 days at the resorts then moving to the BCV, so would have only done the free ddp for the first 4 days. Not so awlful, but the big kids really wanted to do Universal first, so they may get their wish now.

All I have to say is UGGH! I got the 40% card in the mail and I couldn't use it since the dates were from 8/21 - 10/6. If the dates hold true for 8/26 - 9/22 once again I wouldn't be eligible since we are arriving on 8/17.
We are going no matter what so I am glad I down sized to POR from WL and got the AAA discount. I was hoping to upgrade if I was eligible for free dining.

Interesting set of dates... it sounds like they are well aware of the fact that schools are starting later this year, thus the reason for the 8/26 check in date. Also, the end date is a week earlier which would eliminate most people who are trying to use free dining in conjunction with F&W fest.....
I have my fingers crossed for you guys that it works!! I am even more glad that I got the 40% now since we arrive on 8/25 and would have needed to do a split ressie to get free dining for part of the trip.
Best of luck!

I was hoping for earlier in August too. Oh well it's nice to know not to put too much more hope into it. Now to gear up for a trip offsite next May when the weather is better and figure out where to go for this summer then since it won't be Disney. Glad I didn't book in hopes of it happening then it would be a pain to cancel everything not to mention the money being tied up. Thanks for posting this.

AHHHHH! :scared1: AHHHHH! :scared1: (Had to get that out). Thank God for plan B that we set in motion the other day or I would be crying (look at our ticker). School starting later meaning after Labor day, is that what is is? Our original plans were for the end of September but we booked from the 1-9 after we got a discount just in case. Like everyone else, we would prefer the free dining.
Lets all take a deep breath and hope for a little pixie dust for everyone who has been waiting, praying and planning.

IF true (big emphasis on the IF), it sounds like over the last couple of years their promotions have managed to narrow the window of their early fall "slow time." Good for them, bad for those of us with kids in school and those who like to use free dining at F&W. We were (are, think positive!) planning to come down for two weeks, departing August 25, but only if there's free dining. If not, we'll likely do something else (cruise, all-inclusive resort) or maybe come in December or next year.
Actually, the thing that bums me out the most about this rumor are the release dates--I was hoping to know something in the next couple of weeks, not a month from now!

You need to remember a bunch of us already got free dining starting August 5 going to Sept. 28 during the bounceback program, plus there was a 40% off code that a lot of people got.
They only need to pick the weeks that are not full, which I guess are not too many.

If you have an existing room only reservation, that has to be cancelled to create a package reservation.
They can't just convert room only to package. So.. you may want to do that NOW before the place starts booking up worse than it already is.

True...though the 40% was only good during certain wks too. Many people couldn't use it...and now still can't use the Free DDP if those dates hold true. Personally, I'm going to "try" not to think about it. I'm hopeful the ultimately announced dates will be the same as the bounceback program. Lots of pixie dust!!!!:wizard: :wizard:

How does that work exactly? Can they apply a new promotion code to an existing package reservation? My apologies for this newbie question . . . I've never booked a package, just room-only.
Are there cancellation fees associated with packages, in case the current "free dining" info turns out to be incorrect?

In the past the last day of the free dining promo coincided with 2 things- 1) the last day of value season and 2) the Saturday 10 days before Columbus Day. That day falls on the 29th of September this year and I hope that is the last day of the promo because that is when we are going. :-)

I was told the same thing about two weeks ago. She went as far as to say I could book my trip that day and WHEN the deal comes out for Sept travelers in mid April they would credit the balance I owed. (I would need to call) She DID NOT say it would be free dining but it COULD be that or 40% off room rate.
For two people at AKL it works out to be the same $ either way. So I'm in:cool1:

I'm wondering if there will be an early August package discount of some type, or if the AAA room rate will be as good as it gets for us??

Our trip falls into the free dining dates this year (early Sept), but would knock us out next year. If we activate our APs for this trip on 9/7, we will have to vacation in August next year to be able to use them again (and not have to purchase new passes). I have to vacation mid-late month every time we go, due to work. So, late Aug would probably not work for next year. Oh, well....guess I am just borrowing trouble. Yayyyyyy free dining 2007!

A couple of questions about free dining. Should I be booking a package now and than change and cancel if deal comes out? We are only going in Sept if free dining or something comparble comes out if not we will wait until Jan. That being said if I book now and nothing comes out will I lose my deposit or can I just change it to Jan?
Next question, if I book through CAA can I still get the room discount along with the free dining?
Do you stand a better chance of getting the room you want with free dining if you book ahead or is it the same as if you book when it come out?

That was my point--that all the promotions they've already done have worked. Between the last 2 years' free DDP promotions (getting people in the habit of going to WDW in August/September) and last year's UK/bounceback promotions they've managed to shave a few weeks off the expected "slow time." I don't think the 40% off code had much to do with it, at least for the start dates, since it wasn't available until the end of August, either.
It will be interesting to see how many people who booked between August 5 and 25 hoping for free dining end up cancelling or changing dates IF these rumored dates are accurate.

All I can say is...let it be so...we have a 9/22 to 9/29 trip planned... perfection... until it comes out official I will be visiting here everyday. Oh, please, please, please, we could upgrade to a mod and STILL save money!
Come on, big money, big money....no whammies!
SkierPete
P.S. I do feel bad for those booking nearby. It is likely the late August dates are changing because more and more people are going in late August. The dates may yet be wrong. In particular, I'll be a little surprised if they don't extend it to the 29th in reality.

The way I understand it, booking either a room or package now, does NOT guarantee you will get the free dining at the resort of your choice. They won't just "convert" an existing ressie to dining.
I've heard a certain number of rooms at the various resorts are available for the offer. If they are gone, or maybe none were ever made available at your resort of choice b/c that resort was already full enough, you can't get the free dining, at least at that resort on those days.
So you could call up and say I have a package Pop on xxx dates that I want to cancel, and then I want to re-book a package w/free dining those same dates at Pop. They could say sorry, I can cancel your current package but no more free dining rooms are available at Pop at that time.
I hope I got that right...at least thats how I understand it.
Seems to me that if you book a room or package now, its only going to make things harder on you and others when they go to book free dining (assuming it happens.) Disney will see the number of reservations already on the books and possibly cut back on the number of rooms offered with free dining.....
But thats just my guess.

Book the room now. No you won't loose your deposit even if you cancel completely unless you cancel 45 days or less prior to arriving and even then you would loose $100.00. I would book now for the better room choices. Do what is best considering your budget and pray for free DD. Good luck.

Last year, my husband and I got lucky enough to get the free dining package, which saved us tons of money for our honeymoon vacation from 8/27-9/3; this year, we are planning to stay from 9/9-9/15 to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary and two years together!! I would love to get the same benefits as last year. This was a first for both of us, who'd never been to Disney. It was very magical!! I really, really hope this works out again!! I really don't mind waiting to book our trip until the discount officially starts either!!

We are planning on arriving 8/23 and departing 8/28. I would need to split the ressie?? I could do room only AAA discount for the first few days but what about tickets? I was planning on getting 10 day non-expiring and saving the rest for another trip. I think I would need to get at least a one day base ticket in order to get the package with free dining right? Has anyone ever split a reservation liek this? Help me! Oh it's all so confusing :confused3

Hi! I have a few questions that I thought you guys would be able to answer for me. I didn't book a trip but we would like to go inn Sept. amd we were waiting for the free dining if it was offered. Should I book a trip now and then if it is free dining call and ask to apply that code? How much of a deposit do you need to put down on the packages? I know it has ot be paid in full before you go and they give intervals that you must make a payment but I forget how much it is to hold your reservation? We did the free dining a few years ago and it was wonderful!
Thank-You,

I don't think that it will cause more crowding. Of course that is probably what Disney wants, but the week or two following Labor Day weekend are the slowest of the year (that's what I've heard). Last year, we went the week before labor day weekend, and there were hardly any lines, and it was definitely a thinner crowd than what I've seen in photos; given it was our first time though, we expected a lot more people to be there.

THis would be a tough split. You would have to have a room only or another package for 8/23-8/26, then the new package for 8/26-28 (but you won't qualify if there is a 3 day minimum requirement). You would have to buy a new one day ticket for the 8/26-28 package, so if you have tickets for the first package, or beginning of your stay, you will again have to buy another ticket for package number two. If there is a 3 day minimum, then you are out of luck unless you are able to extend another day.

Yes, this is a good source. This website is provided by the same people who write The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. They may not have the whole story, and they probably know more than they can tell us, but they wouldn't publish a baseless rumor (or rely on a single random CM report).

the only thing I can think of is, were you planning on getting 5 days tickets on your first package then 5 days again for the second package (free dining) Might not be as good a price as 10 day tickets, you know? You would need to price it out both ways I guess or play with the number of days to see what ends up being the best choice money wise.

I am happy if these indeed are the dates. I'll be there the beginning of August up to Aug 8 and was hoping there would be no free dining for my dates. Last August, free dining kicked in on Aug 13 and the crowds that came in that day were horrible. EMH's were bad.....almost worse than being in the park at peak times.
Now a friend of mine has free dining and she's there from approximately Aug 5-15 or thereabouts. But she booked in December during a stay at POP and she said it was a promotion ? So maybe only guests who pre-booked this package from an earlier onsite stay got the free dining for early August ?

How does that work exactly? Can they apply a new promotion code to an existing package reservation? My apologies for this newbie question . . . I've never booked a package, just room-only.
Are there cancellation fees associated with packages, in case the current "free dining" info turns out to be incorrect?
My experience was we booked POFQ, I wanted the "smaller" resort and the beinets... then free Dining came along.. they refunded my credit card (but wait - I did NOT GET REFUNDED until 17 days later!!)
They then only had rooms available at POR - none at POFQ...
it all worked out... but no you cannot add it to an existing ressie... or you couldnt the last two years..
No cancellation fees...
but you do have to book a "package" which means at least a one day base MYW ticket for each person on the DDP...

I'm gonna wait until "free dining" packages are available for booking, rather than booking a package now and trying to convert it.
And yup, thanks also for the note about MYW base tickets. I did the math. . . factoring in the 2 one-day MYW tickets, plus paying rack rate for the room, we'd spend about $253 to get onto "free dining". Comparing that to what I believe the two of us would spend on meals, we'd save at least $70 by making the change.

Me too (or 3, or 100, or however many of us are in the same boat!) :sad2:
:headache: DOH!
If they just change the dates to accomodate me, things would be just sooo much easier! :rotfl:
:rotfl:
Hello, Disney? These are my travel dates, could you please offer free dining during that week, 40% off my room, and free hoppers/water parks and more options, and make sure none of the attractions will be closed for refurbishment, none of the restaurants either, and I'd like to attend the P&PP, MNSSHP and MVMCP, so could you also make sure all 3 of those are running, too? Thanks!
It really would make my life so much easier.

Well this makes me more confident that we decided to wait until the following June (2008) rather than plan and hope for free dining this year. DD starts school 8/27 so we would have been too early!

I have a question. I understand that if I book a package(through Disney) with arrival date being during the free dining promotion, but departure date being a day or to AFTER it ends, I can still get the free dining for the whole trip...do I have this correct??
What I am wondering is, what if I want to arrive a day or 2 BEFORE the free dining promotion starts, and depart within the promotion dates....say arrive on 8/23 and leave on 8/30...would I still get the dining plan for the entire trip, or just from the 26th on....
Thanks in advanced to all you experienced DISers!!!

From the 26th on, and you would have to make it two separate reservations...The free dining will require a package (tickets etc) It may still be well worth it!

You can, but you would have to have two reservations: 8/23 - 8/26 and then 8/26 - 8/30 to take advantage of the FD during the remainder your stay. You'd have to check out and check back in which may or may not require a room change (assuming you're staying at the same resort the whole time). If you go this route, make sure you tell them when you first check in that you have two reservations.

Thanks for the quick answers!! I thought this was the case, but was not positive....Looks like I will be booking for the 26th then....sounds soooo much easier. I just may have to take a day off from work to make the reservations in April!...Or maybe I will get up at midnight that day and reserve...then go back to bed...yeah right! LOL!

We were lucky to get free dining in September and were mostly spoiled by the light crowds.
Was anyone there the last two weeks of August during free dining and how were the crowds then?
Honestly, are there any slow times anymore? :)
I did free dining the last two Augusts during the last week of August. The crowds were very light. This year I am scheduled to check in on August 25th with the 40% off at music. If free dining really happens, I'll change my package start date to 8/26 and do room only 8/25. I have water park tickets that I can use that day and I will still "splurge" for my ADR at Chef Mickey's if the rest of my dining ends up free. :cool1:

In the past, as long as your check in date fell with in the special, you would receive that special for the length of your stay.
In other words, as long as you check in by the 22, you will receive free dining for your entire stay (up to 10 days maybe?). That's if they do it like they have in the past.

In the past it has extended through the length of the stay. Right now we are supposed to check in on the 23rd but I will move it up a day and come in on the 22nd to get the free dining. We have a wedding that DD is in on the 22nd but we will just leave the reception early and catch a late flight if we have to. It would be a huge savings for us because we are treating DH's parents to this trip---so 4 adults and 1 DD for 10 days---thats huge and I would be willing to skip the whole wedding if I had to. DD is not the only flower girl in the wedding. Hope that helps---didn't mean to go off topic but I am so jittery about this---I NEED an official announcement before I go CRAZY.:dance3:

Oh No! It was hard enough for me to convince DH for us to get (pay) DDP...NOW I have to tell him that there's a possiblity it may be FREE (our travel dates 9/16-9/22). I already gave a deposit to AAA for our reservation room and tickets. At the time I excluded dining because I needed to convince hubby. Now that he is convinced that we should get it..what do I do now I do?
I'm so confuse. Please someone help us decide. Dang who knew planning for WDW was so hard. :confused3 Are we out of luck to get the free dining if it's offer because we have our room/ticket booked through AAA? Don't I need to switch to regular price to get the free dining.
Thanks and I am so sorry for being so naive

First you would have to have 2 reservations. One for 2 days and one starting on Aug. 26. The Aug 26 one would have to be a package with tickets to get the free dining. If you want tickets for the first 2 nights you will have to get them seperate, so this means 2 sets of tickets. You would only get the free ddp for your stay starting the 26th. It's a little complicated, it can be done, but you will have to crunch the numbers in terms of tickets and prices. You can request that they try to keep you in the same room throughout and they will do their best, but there is always a chance that you may have to change rooms when you have 2 reservations.

My experience was we booked POFQ, I wanted the "smaller" resort and the beinets... then free Dining came along.. they refunded my credit card (but wait - I did NOT GET REFUNDED until 17 days later!!) Although, seventeen days isn't TOO bad when the standard disclaimer is "may take up to two billing cycles" :teeth:
This really upsets me as we will be coming home on 8/26. I gotta say, if these dates are true, and they offered better dates to other target audiences, I am a tad frustrated. I wish they offered the same deal and dates to everyone. But they already aren't doing that. The offer to the UK visitors initiates August 12 (and they can stay up to fourteen nights). The BounceBack dates beginAugust 5
If I were to exchange into one of the DVC timeshares (through Interval International) during that time frame, would I be eligible for free dining? No, because you would not be purchasing a package-that-includes-room-and-tickets. This, along with visiting on the correct dates and booking during the indicated period, is a non-negotiable requirement.

This is actually good news for you......if free dining comes out call your TA at AAA and have her check if a free dining pkg is available at your resort....if not consider changing resorts to get it. She will then book it and cancel your original ressie. You will still get free dining and the extras for booking a AAA pkg!

Listen Disney traditional does not offer free dining until after Fla. residents are back in school which is the first two weeks in August, the last two free dining plans have been from the middle of August until end of September. Disney knows that they have something good going here because most people that take advantage of the free dining upgrade their resorts, spend more in the parks, buy more souveiners, buy better ticket packages, take tours, etc. Disney stands to make more money from free dining than losing money. They pay pennies on the dollar for food when they make handfuls of money on resort upgrades. Think about it.

If you go out to Disney and look under preschoolers you will see the Little Ones celebration. Last year they offered free dining for that so maybe that is the reason for the start date. Now the celebration ends in October so I am not sure why they might end free dining early but ..... who knows.

We ain't guaranteeing anything. If we were the wagering type, however, we'd bet that free dining will be returning for travel dates 8/26 through 9/22, if booked 4/12 through 6/24. As always, those dates are subject to change.

However, this doesn't make much since, because Disney would get a rash of calls with folks switching from the 40% discount to the Free Dining Plan. It makes more since for Disney to off the Free Dining BEFORE the 40% plan takes affect. JMHO

That's totally buggin me too, except that the 40% was supposed to be pin only and free dining will probably be open to the general public. It just sucks that many people will get to choose between the two deals, while a whole bunch of us are stuck with nothing.

You didn't say which month.
If it starts on the 26th of August, you're vacation must START on that day. SO you would not be able to get the deal (like me).
If September, then yes all of your days are covered. Your trip must start by the last day of the package and then all other days count.
The 40% was the same thing. Your vacation must START between the days of the deal. So the first day of the trip must be August 26th or later.

I think I can. Ziggy has a ressie with AAA WITHOUT dining, so they have a small (20%?) discount off the room. With free dining they get free food, but lose the room discount. You have to pay full price for the room to get free dining.

I've just been doing my sums and it works out $140 more for the free dining than the AAA rate - don't really think its worth it as there are only 4 of us. I wish I could have got that 40% off though :(.
Do you plan to eat at all? Cuz if you do $140 for the whole week for 4 people is VERY cheap. Even if you only do counter service and eat breakfast in the room, you will save money.
Don't forget to add the cost of food into your overall budget. It's a biggie!
DH and I used the DP in January (paid for it) and I saved all the receipts. After PAYING for it, we still saved over $700 for just the two of us. So add the cost of the plan and that's over $1000 worth of food for free!

If I book AAA rate I get 15% off rack rate, if I book the DDP I pay the rack rate and will lose the almost $100 off room plus I will have to pay for one day passes as I can only have it for the last 6 days of my vacation.

Its $140 per night. Usually we would not eat table service every night.
We have booked BCVs - a 2 room villa for DH and me and our two teenage daughters.

I asked about free dining and he said he couldn't "officially" say anything, but he said "if I were you I would book something right away." He also told me to watch the message boards every day that something would be happening very shortly. I wanted to set up 9 days with one day base passes and no dining figuring I could just add it when free dining comes out, but the CM told me to add the dining and one day base pass so nothing would have to change and it could just be converted. He also said Visa card holders would probably be given first crack at it again. I know there has been a lot of talk back and forth as some CMs seem to be in the know and some don't, but I thought it would be nice to give out a little hope so we have something to hold on to

if this is true, then those of us who booked Sept. early will miss out? Is this different from last year, because I was under the impression that those who had already booked for the free dining period were able to call and request that their dining package be changed to free when it became available!
If your arrival date falls within the offer dates, you can re-book a package with free dining, but you might not be able to get the same type of room, view, or the same resort as you have now. You would have to choose from available rooms. It helps to be flexible
They only make so many rooms/ room types available per resort.
If the resort and type of room you have is available, it would be just like adding it to your package, easy, no fuss, though probably a new ressie #.
But if they are not available, then it would be like cancelling and getting a whole new thing.
That's why it doesn't necessarily benefit you to book early if you want the sale, but it won't hurt you either, as long as your preference is not one of the limited resorts or room types.
Does that make sense?
[I'll happily move my trip one week earlier to eat free. Here's hoping! ]

Im happy with the news. I have to change a few things, but the dates work for us.
I was planning to go from August 21-September 4.(40% discount). Now I'm thinking we'll do US/IOA from Aug. 22-26 then WDW Aug. 26-Sept.4.
I think it really depends on where you live. The kids here don't go back to school until after Labor Day so late August works out great for us.
We are going to be arriving on the 23rd too!!!!! I think that we (the 3 of us) can get there on the 22nd but my son and DDIL both have to work the day before so now what????:confused3 :confused3
I also have the package plan and last year, when free dining was annouced, I called that morning in April and got it with no problem.
Just have to hope for an extension on the free dining dates!!!!popcorn::
Can you book one of the adult into the other room? That way when you check in, you'll get both set of room keys. You'll end up paying for a night you don't really need, but it will lock your son and DIL into free dining.
the only thing I can think of is, were you planning on getting 5 days tickets on your first package then 5 days again for the second package (free dining) Might not be as good a price as 10 day tickets, you know? You would need to price it out both ways I guess or play with the number of days to see what ends up being the best choice money wise.
You could buy the 10 day tickets with the first package and just a one day base with the free dining. You could just hold onto the one day ticket to use during another trip.
earlier onsite stay got the free dining for early August ?
I wonder which resorts will have free dining rooms when the package is released.:confused3 With UK and bounce back free dining, and the 40% discount, they may be not have availability at every resort for all the dates posted.

Sorry, I meant August. Thanks for clarifying. :)

Ok, so now I have to go back and figure out new dates.. I'm thinking maybe the 20th -27th of Sept.. I wish they would just announce the dates so I can get my planning done. I hate not knowing..
Sorry, I meant August. Thanks for clarifying. :)
So if I read right you are thinking August 20-26. No you don't qualify. Your trip must start on Aug. 26th to be eligible. You'll have to move it to the next week, or be like alot of us mid-August folks who are not going to be able to get it because we are committed to our dates. :confused3

I don't think this will work because they require everyone to be there at check in when they are offering the free dining. They had a lot of trouble with this last year or the year before with people saying there were more people in the room than there were so they could get more vouchers for free dining. I know on our reservation slip last year it said that everyone must be there at check in. I would assume that it would be the same this year.

I am really excited about this news.(if its true). Yeah Disney here we come!!! I hope the dates came a little earlier in August but I think I can work something out. Maybe we can arrive a few days earlier and do some resort hoping go over to US/IOA like someone posted earlier, and if we could get a good rate for the Nick hotel that would be just great too.
We'll see, April 12th can't come soon enough.  :woohoo:

Yeah, I remember they implemented that rule last year. Many posters were concerned about. Pretty much everyone reported back that it wasn't an issue when they checked in.

I'm sitting on the couch with my 2 DD's. Even the rumor has us celebrating
Our travel dates are usually flexible, so we're just waiting on some dates at my job to be finalized.
General question: I see a lot of people booking already - I'm inclined to wait until the official anouncement so I don't have to change my package/ADR's. Is this taking too much of a chance? Someone once explained to me that even if you have ressies, you must cancel them to make new ones. Is that true?

Question:
We are already booked for Sept during the possible free dining.
We have a package with room at the CR and tickets right now.
Since they only have so many rooms available for the free dining, would it be easier for us to add dining right now to the ressie? Will our current ressie get cancelled? I am a bit confused. We had to wait forever for a MK view room to open up and I don't want to lose it.
Advice would be helpful!
thanks

I'll grab on to a little hope! :goodvibes Visa statements usually arrive around the 9th of the mth. (maybe we'll be able to see the offer on the website sooner) At least then we'll know the dates. :scared1:
Thanks. This means I can book direct....and be on the phone at 7 am instead of waiting and hoping my CAA TA gets around to it that day.
Yes...
Only your TA will be able to cancel the previous though. I am not sure but you may have issues booking another ressie in your names if you have an existing one. You may get caught in a catch 22.
If you do decide to keep it with CAA you will still get all of the CAA/AAA perks even if the room is not discounted.

I am relatively new here and have gotten an invaluable amount of information from everyone here. I'm hoping I can get some advice. I left a deposit and booked and 9 nights with the DDP starting 8/10-8/19 in hopes that there would be free dining that would applied (if it's offered). These dates are flexible, I just chose those dates because my sons birthday falls in that week. If free DDP is offered for the dates of 8/26-9/22 should I make a tentative reservation (and keep my original dates in case it's not) now or wait until it's officially announced? What would you do?

Kind of a bummer for the ones who were hoping for free dining the whole month of August though.:guilty:
That is probably why they aren't offering it. Too many people booked rooms so they don't need to offer a discount for that time. When resorts are 3/4 full they don't offer any discounts

Of course they know. However, that doesn't mean the package will be offered at ALL resorts for the entire period.
Many times when discounts are released, people will post that they couldn't use the discount at their first choice of resorts. It doesn't mean that the resort is sold out. I just means they reached their allotted number of rooms for that discount, for those dates.
The last email code I received was for Christmas 2005. When I called to book, I couldn't book PC or All Star Movies. The only value resorts I could book with the discount were Music and Sports. Now, if I was willing to pay rack rate or use a AAA discount, then I could book any value resort.

Personally, if these are the correct dates I think it stinks! Free dining would be the only way I could convince DH to make another trip this year. As far as Disney Visa, you would think they would give a few more perks to those of us who use their card on a regular basis (and pay their outrageous interest rates at times). To have an offer that lasts less than a month (8/26-9/22) and that is the only thing you offer all year does not say much for what they think of their cardholders. At least last year it went from the middle of August to the end of September.
Sorry to rant but I really needed a vacation this year (can you tell??) and I can't pull 3 kids out of Middle School at the beginning of the year. I guess someone other than Disney will get my money.
