Driving vs. flying.
We said we're driving to save money. DH calculated meals, hotel, gas and food for the way down and back (plus a portable dvd player we'd have to buy for the car). That total comes to about $750.:teacher:
There are four of us. I haven't seen anything yet, but I'm keeping an eye on Soutwest for a Ding. Even if we got flights for $200 each, I think it would be worthwhile to fly.

Just checked this morning and it looks like I can get flights for $99 each way. Can't beat that considering I paid the same to go to Disney in 2001!

FLY!!!
We for flights for 5 of us for well under $1000 and they are DIRECT flights on Southwest! (Didn't wait for a ding, just went right to their site to book). It was $89 each way PP, plus fees, etc.
Not to mention the days of vacation you gain!!!
Also, if your dates are flexible, check a couple days before and after your dates. We saved $300 over all by shifting our dates one day coming and going, and it could have been $1800 if we had another day different!

We fly from BWI. In August, we'll be flying Airtran for the first time. Always flown Southwest before, but right now, they are higher. I've seen the rates go up a lot in the last two weeks, so yesterday, I did some more looking and booked directly on the AirTran website. It's $813 for four of us flying Sunday -Sunday. Can probably do less if you can fly on a weekday.
BTW-I had looked on Travelocity. They charge a $40 fee for booking through them! It's rolled into the "Taxes and Fees" portion, so you have to read the specifics to find that out! I also found a flight on the AirTran Site that was not an option on Travelocity, and it was offered at an internet special. All in all, I saved almost $200 by going directly to Air Tran. Definitely look at the airlines actual sites. Keep checking Southwest too. Specials come out on Tuesdays for them.
Good luck. When are you going to DW??

I agree to check all of your air carrier options out of your region - and keep checking. This way you'll spot a deal when you see one or hear of a sale! Time is money and I vote with flying!
Though a DVD player could still be nice for the kids! Santa brought one to our house last year. Since we only have one TV, sometimes we send him up to his room to watch a kid movie so we can watch sports or something a little more adult downstairs once in a while. It has also been nice for our car trips.

Awesome! It sounds like flying is the way to go. Besides, it will save vacation time! Have fun!

We are flying out of Dulles, using JetBlue for a total $757 plus change for the four of us. We are flying out at 9 am and should land about 11 am. To me its the best $750 I have spent!!

DEFINITLY FLY!!!!
I wonder at what point it becomeS "more economical" to fly vs. drive?? I didn't really consider flying.....just assumed it was expensive. We are only 8-10 hours away.......wonder if it would have been worthwhile??!!
ANYWAY, have a great trip!!!!
I don't know where you live in PA, but I often alternate between BWI and PHL. Flights out of BWI are sometimes cheaper. Plus SWA has a lot of flights to MCO out of BWI. There are always more options on SWA flights from BWI compared to PHL.
Even though it is a longer drive for me to BWI, I like that airport better. Flights leave and land on time. There are also a lot of reasonable park n fly's in the area. I am doing a park n' fly next week for $108 plus tax. That is worth is for me, since it would cost about $65 or more to park for 9 days.
I don't know when you are going, but the usual one way fare to MCO from BWI is $79. With sales and dings, you can lower that.
Not to make you all jealous, but I am flying nonstop on SWA next week from BWI to DEN for $560 for 4 people. With my ticketless travel credit I got those flights down to $440. Yeah - you heard me - $110 per person to DENVER! Sad thing is - I wish I was going to Disney instead of spring skiing - what is wrong with me?
