I read a while ago that Xanadu had been sold and was wondering if the new owner closed it or refurbed and reopened. We used to drive past it every time we went up to WDW for vacations in the early-mid 80's.

the Kissimmee Xanadu House was closed in 1996 and demolished in October 2005.
The funny thing is I just watched Citizen Kane for the first time the other night and started asking myself was he real?? after I read your post!!

It fell into a horrible state of disrepair and there was no saving it. Really sad!

In its final days, you could see it from the Super Target across the street, just deterorating with the "Home of the Future" sign still out front. Always thought that would have made a creepy, ironic photo.

I wanted to go, too, when I was about 9, but my parents were not going there, nor to Gatorland, which I also wanted to see.

I never heard of this place, but after reading here about it, it sounds creepy and fascinating at the same time! I found a website that shows the house in it's prime and also when it was falling in disrepair, and some demolition photos, too! Weird but interesting!
