I am curious about this because my nephew is planning to be married at WDW in November. He says he and his fiancee won't know the exact date in November until sometime in April, because Disney won't give them more than 8 months notice of the date. Yet I've seen people posting here that they've got a date set in November or later. I'm confused as to why some people seem to have their date already, yet my nephew and his fiancee do not. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Alot of it has to do with wheither they are having a Intimate or Custom (they've changed the names of them). Also if your wedding is in one of the parks it's different.

I'm not sure which kind they are planning. All I know is they currently want to get married at 10 am on a Sunday in the Wedding Pavilion.

every wedding is different. they might be having a ballroom reception - that is what actually makes the difference. If there reception is at the Grand Floridian, Boardwalk or s bunch of other locations - the exact date is not confirmed for 8 months before. most of the time the date is requested but conferences can come in and book those spaces and they have priority. If they were having an in-park wedding (epcot for example) they can sign and get confirmed at 12 months out so some people know their dates.
Technically if their date is in Nov. they should know this month though.

we're having an 'Intimate' ceremony and we can't get confirmation until 8 months out as well. It's causing a few problems for our families too - I have 7 people waiting until we get confirmation of our date before they will book flights, but as we are all in the UK it may mean they leave it too late to get a flight as many people over here book flights very early as they are limited.
I think it's very difficult for people not involved in the Disney wedding planning to understand the Disney way - my sister in law keeps saying that it's 'not very professional' of Disney to make people wait so late! Believe me tho' it's worse for the couple having to wait to see if they got their date!

 I just re-read this thread and I'm a little confused as well now - Intimate weddings can't be held on a Sunday (Mon - Thurs in Pavilion), so it must be a Custom - and aren't they confirmed 12 months ahead????

For custom you can't sign the contract til 8 months out unless it's inside a park, at Ariel's, or Atlantic Dance Hall.

that stinks even more than an Intimate at 8 months out!

No kidding, especially if you have a ton of people coming! (Or hoping to go at that point!)

Thanks for the input.
I honestly do not know which type of wedding they are planning. They live 2000 miles away, so I don't see or talk to them that often. All I know is what they mentioned over Christmas, which is that their first choice of date was 10 am on a Sunday (the one before Thanksgiving, I believe) in the Wedding Pavilion. I haven't read up much on the difference between Intimate and Custom weddings, so I'm not sure which they want. I do know they are planning to have at least 25 guests there, which I think (I'm not sure) means it will be a custom wedding.
I, like others, am just anxious to find out the date so we can book flights, book the resorts, etc.
