I've really got to try and see these guys this trip. I heard them from a distance last time and was real bummed I didn't have the time to stop by and listen. I told DH about them, and he laughed, then said that they sounded cool. He's Scots/Irish by heritage, me Swedish - but I'm the one who loves bagpipes! Go figure on that one. :rotfl:

any sign of Head Honcho lately?Head Honcho?? j/k There is only one Head Honcho. Run into him all the time in the Rose and Crown. Great to see many appreciate their LIVE music. They are some very talented musicians.

I ordered only 1 CD from their web site, and I got it within a week. Did you get a confirmation message when you placed your order? If you did and your credit card still hasn't been charged, I would e-mail them.

I also saw them Sunday, Carol, I wonder if we were at the same show. 3:30? I loved the Run Run Away, sing along song. Jamie was playful this time. they did so many songs that I normally don't get to see.

they also did It;s a small world, then Mark, Randy, and Jaime danced in a circle like the dolls.

I asked Mark about a new CD, he said to keep checking the website.

Nope, I was at the last show. Sorry!

Tuesday I saw the 2:30 and 3:30 shows before I headed out to the airport.

HOPEFULLY, I will be there the last week in Oct M-W but I would say it's a 50/50 shot. My current client has to do a sign off either that week or next and if it's that week then.... I will have to cancel!

I was at the 2:30, 5:30, and 6:30 shows last Sunday - so missed the 3:30 "circle dance"!

Carol - it was great to see you on Tuesday - and a nice surprise, too! Madge - I wondered if you would be there...but didn't know who to look for. Dan Murphy is at WDW this week, and he was at the 2:30 show today. Sadly - I had to leave after 2 sets today - but since I'd been there since LAST Sunday - I couldn't complain too much! :)

About the new songs - there are THREE of them! Yes - Jamie sings the song in French ("Brother John"?), Mark and Jamie both sing the "Tell Me, Ma"/"What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor" medley (Mark sings the first part and Jamie sings the second), and the 3rd song is "The Queen of Argyle." (I think Jamie sings it - but don't quite recall, as it wasn't a favorite.) There was a substitute drummer last Thursday - Roy from Scotland, and a substitute lead guitar player today - Billy Barnes (?) from Canada.

There was an instrumental they played one day we were there, Tuesday at 5:30? It may not have been new, but it was new to us... and it isn't on any of the CDs. We liked it a lot!

We were at the 5:30pm show on Tuesday - sitting on a bench in the front row, next to a lovely young couple dressed in all black. I have a young DD with blonde curly hair.

So close, yet so far... we also stayed at the S/D Thursday night when we went to the MNSSHP. You were there, and so was Dan, right?

I recognized all of Off Kilter's songs, except for the 3 new ones I mentioned - but I don't know the names of the ones that aren't on their CD's. Were you on the bench on the right side or the left side? I am always on the left side (facing the stage), either standing behind the benches or by the light pole, and I also sat a few times on the left benches. Wouldn't that be a hoot if we sat next to each other, as I was at all of the shows on Tuesday and Wednesday. Maybe I should start wearing a DIS button when I go to WDW!

I stayed at the Swan all last week, and Dan arrived last Wednesday. I ran into him leaving the MK as I entered about 5 p.m for the Halloween Party on Thursday! We exchanged cellphone numbers and spent Friday afternoon and evening together at Epcot.

Count my DS 19 and I as new fans:yay: We saw Off Kilter Sunday afternoon at Epcot at the F&W Festival. Since DS 19 is an alternative metal fan, I wasn't sure what he'd think, but he loved 'em, bagpipes and all -- even went so far as to say "the old guys are a lot better than I thought they'd be". Understatement of the year...

Looks as though Randy was playing with the other group at Party for the Senses again this year.

The picture is on Deb Wills site: Party for the Senses (http://allearsnet.com/tp/ep/fw07/pfs32.jpg)

The name of the group escapes me, but they are made up with a few of the members of Mo Rockin. Randy has been playing with them a couple of years now.

I saw this group play a few years ago and really enjoyed them. They weren't at the Party last year. (One of the thigngs I didn't like was that there was less entertainement for more cost.....)

We just returned early yesterday morning, but I am proud to announce that I saw Off Kilter for the first time! They were wonderful. My DS9 really started to get into their music, and he usually doesn't move to the groove very much. I think that he liked the bagpipe the best. He didn't even plug his ears due to the volume of the music, which is amazing in itself. He has Asperger's Syndrome, so to watch him engage in something that he's not familiar with just brings joy to my heart.

I purchased one of their CD's (I can't remember which one). They were out of the Live album, so the CM pointed out to me the one that has their most requested songs on it, so that's the one I got.

I'll be having fun listening to it whenever I find where I put it!

After I purchased the CD they told me to go get it autographed, but they had already left the stage. I guess that it's something that I'll have to place on my "to-do" list for our next trip, whenever that may be!

Oh well...

I looked for you and your DH at the race, but didn't see you. (I am actually composing my letter to Disney right now and it's not real nice. I was not impressed, it was our first Disney race and quite possibly our last. The boyfriend found the 20 minute delay completely unacceptable!)

Sorry you didn't get to see them Carol - and that you missed us at the race. I was kinda nervous since it was the furthest distance I have ever done!! We were lucky and didn't get cought up in the traffic issue but I was dissapointed in the 20 min delay - they could have avoided that by having transportation and adjusting the traffic signals. I am hoping next year will be better (since we are only 3 hours south I will do it again)

We were able to see Off Kilter yesterday at the 5:30PM show since my DH decided he didn't want to leave yesterday morning after riding Soarin (as we had planned) so we stayed another night.

We missed the earlier shows so luckly we made it to the 5:30 show. Tony wan't there but Jason (I think that is the fiddler's name) was there. It was raining off and on but had stopped by time they were done. We left Epcot to go back to our room at BCV since we were so close. We decided to go back for the 7:30 show and then at 7:30 they announced the show was cancelled due to the weather. We were glad we at least got to see them the one show. Oh well I guess it will be either Feb or May that we see them again (depending on if we go in Feb as I know we will be going in May for the Minnie Marathon) I think I am hooked on Disney races (although I think the so called "party" afterword was kind of a joke - but that is another issue)

Was Jason there in addition to Jamie? The only time I've heard Jason play with OK (and he's a GREAT fiddle player) was when Jamie wasn't there. Yes both Jason and Jamie were there. At first I thought we had all 6 of them there but then I noticed Tony wasn't there :sad1: I have seen them all perform together - fiddle, bagpipe, keyboards and the rest of the band but that was an off site show for St Patty's day. (Yes I know there isn't really 6 members of the band but I think he is like an honorary member)

I hope for all of you that have trips planned that they are all back to normal and on the correct schedule with good weather.

Last night I saw two and a half shows... (Did you know that if your plane lands at 5 you can pick up a rental car at Hertz and be at Off Kilter by 5:45??? LOL!)

Tony was not there, nor was Jason. It was just Jamie, Mark, Randy and Scott. Good shows and I have THREE new songs now.

1. Queen of Argyle.
2. Brother John (in French)

2. Brother John (in French)
3. Forgot name, but it includes a "sing along part" It's a typical OK where we start with song one and do about two more LOL!

#3 is "Tell Me Ma"/"What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor" medley

If Tony is off this week - then hopefully he'll be back in two weeks! Hey -why do you think I stand where I do...on the left? :woohoo:

think i'll make the 230 show using magical express, checking in at Pop and then get myself over to EpCot?!
ya i didnt think so - maybe the 330 if Im really lucky
if not I'll definately be at the 530, 630 &730

(Im bringing all 5 of their cds with me so they'll be on the plane ride!)

As I type this it's almost 3 p.m. eastern time. I don't know if your flight(s) to Orlando were affected by Hurricane Noel - but I hope you got there without too much delay, and you'll soon be hearing our boys! :)

By the way, tomorrow (Nov. 4) is Randy's 50th birthday! http://groups.msn.com/OffKilterShrine/biographies.msnw I never would've guessed he was that old, although some of us 50+ folks are pretty well-preserved! :teeth:

I used to favor British Invasion, but I've been a true-blue OK fan the past 2 years. However, when both OK and BI are playing, I've been known to spend the afternoon and evening going back and forth between the two!

In that photo from Mouse Extra, Mark is in the center, and someone is to his left - holding what looks like a bow in his hand. I'm guessing Jamie wasn't there (which explains why Mark is in the middle), and Jason the fiddler was there instead.

Around what time do they start playing? Do they play almost every day? I'd love to take my kids to see them, my daughter just started violin lessons, so I'd like to try to plan around them if I could. We're going the first week of May if that makes any difference.

Their schedule can be found by clicking on "Epcot" and then "Canada" - http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/index.htm They usually play Sunday through Thursday, with shows at 2:30, 3:30, 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30. You can check here, by clicking on the purple "Epcot" tab at the top of the page, then clicking on "Canada".
This schedule is updated weekly, normally late on Saturday night.

You can also have the Concierge at your WDW resort look up their schedule.

This could change at any time, but normally, they play Sunday through Thursday and are off on Fri/Sat. Lately, the shows have been 2:30, 3:30, 5:30, 6:30, 7:30.

Did you know that they have 5 CD's? :rockband:  :shamrock:

I'm back from a short but sweet 50 hours at WDW! I was at all 5 of Off Kilter's sets Monday and Tuesday. Unfortunately - my Magical Express pick-up today was at 2:40, so I didn't get to stay for their first set. They sang Happy Birthday to Barb (newholidayx2) yesterday, so she was happy!

If this holiday season is like last year's, I imagine Off Kilter will start playing one hour earlier between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. Last year they played at 1:30, 2:30, 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30.

You're right, and that will probably be their schedule for the rest of the holiday season, due to the timing of the Candlelight Processional shows. I went to Epcot on Sunday (11/25), and didn't know until I arrived at 1:50 that their first show started at 1:00! I was very glad to catch the rest of their shows that day, as well as all of them on Monday and 3 on Tuesday before leaving for the airport.

British Invasion played their first 2 sets at the same time as Off Kilter - at 2:00 and 3:00. By the way, if you have time - be sure to catch Leon Gregory playing the piano and singing in the Rose and Crown Pub several times a week (Sat., Mon., and Tues. when I was there).

Wow - Jamie AND Randy gone at the same time! Were Jason (fiddle) and Billy Barnes (lead guitar) the substitutes? They're both really good musicians, but I like it best when all 5 are playing.

I like "Queen of Argyle" best of the 3 new songs, and "Brother John" is my least favorite. There are some relatively new instrumentals that I really like - one of which they refer to as "Du Bot, Du Bow" (not sure of the spelling - but that's kind of what Randy's guitar sounds like), or as Head Honcho calls it - "Kapow, Kapow"! :)

Hello NancyIL,

Yes we are back home. We returned late, late Sunday night after many flight delays ( at least we made it home in one day). We saw Off Kilter lots of times over the 10 days we were there. they were as great as always. All of the regular members were there on the days we saw them. I could not believe how warm it was. It was the warmest December since we started going down in 1996. We had a great time again. We sat through all of there shows one day last week ( I had to get a little refreshment from the UK pavillion in between ) ;) We also enjoyed listing to the Voices of Liberty many times during our time there. They are fantastic too. We got to ride Spaceship Earth on our way out of the park on our last night. That was a great way to end our trip. We will be back in May for the Flower and Garden Festival.

Welcome back, Ron! I'm glad you enjoyed warm December temps in Florida, because I'm sure it was NOT very nice when you got back to Michigan!

I heard Voices of Liberty a lot when I was there in October during the F&W Festival, because I spent most of my time at Epcot. I didn't hear them once Thanksgiving weekend, except for their singing in the Candlelight Processional.

I'm looking forward to a few days at WDW in late January, so Off Kilter had better be playing on Thursday, Jan. 24th!

we saw them for the first time a couple weeks ago....they weren't too bad. I am a big fan of Canada's East Coast music scene, the Celtic/pop sound that Off Kilter emulates. Have any of the Off Kilter fans heard of Great Big Sea? They are a Newfoundland band that plays a similar style, mixing pop and celtic sounds to shanty songs. I think most would enjoy them.

NancyIL
12-19-2007, 12:00 PM
Although "they weren't too bad" isn't exactly a rave, it seems you enjoyed them well enough!

I used to think Off Kilter, whose members are NOT Canadian, played in Canada because that was the section of Epcot that had room for their stage! I didn't know anything about Canada's Celtic heritage, especially in Nova Scotia, until 10 days ago when I started planning a trip to the Atlantic provinces. The annual Celtic Colours Festival on Cape Breton Island will be going on while we're in the area next October: http://www.celtic-colours.com/core.php

we have missed them every year, hitting Epcot on days they weren't performing, but noticed a crowd filling up as I grabbed a cold Moosehead. We caught their first 3 songs, before the kids pushed for more rides. The second song was an old shanty from Nova Scotia, which they did quite well. Atlantic Canada has some great bands of the same ilk; Great Big Sea, the Fables, the Rankins, and Skully.
If you like Off Kilter, download a few Great Big Sea songs, especially;Mari-mac, Old Black Rum, Lukey, The Chemical Worker's Song, when I'm up, Donkey Riding, The Night Pat Murphy died, I'm a Rover, and Scolding Wife. They have the same energy and sound. Or try Spirit of the West's "Home for a rest"

To more or less confirm, they did in fact play last Friday, although the little paper schedule next to the maps had not yet been updated. Was back at WS today, times were listed as "Sunday Only." So the new schedule seems to be in effect.

Jaime (the bagpiper/primary lead singer) was off today. It was interesting hearing some of the usual songs with the fiddle and Marc's lead vocals--I found it a much "rawer" sound. Not a bad thing, just different.

Apparently the locals complained about the lack of entertainment on the weekends, so now Off Kilter, British Invasion, and MoRockin ALL will play Friday-Sunday - with different weekdays off.

I was also told by a local that Off Kilter asked to have Jason (the fiddle player) join the group permanently, but Disney said it wasn't in the budget. :( He is so talented, and I love hearing him play - but the group dynamic is definitely different when Jamie isn't there. They're much more serious, and Randy doesn't clown around with Mark as he does with Jamie.

I'll be back to WDW Easter evening, so I hope to catch a set or two of Off Kilter then. If I don't, I'll be back at the end of June.

**By the way, Jason71 - the paper schedules I had did have Off Kilter's new schedule. WDW prints the schedule for only a few days at a time, but they were definitely on it for Thursday, Fri.- Sat., and Sunday.

Nancy,
Thanks for the report.

Got to admit that the scheudle change makes sense to me. After all weekends are the heaviest admission times at Epcot so to have the entertainment all off was a bit much and the replacement band at Canada never drew as well as Off Kilter.

Plus for folks like you and I doing weekend visits it does mean we can see them more.!

Yes - having Off Kilter play on weekends is great for WDW patrons, although not so great for the folks who have to work every weekend. I think we'll see a lot more substitutions as a result, because the performers will want to have a weekend day off every now and then. I was fortunate to see all 5 guys the first 3 days I was there, with Jason filling in for Jamie on my last day. The new schedule will also make it more difficult for them to perform at any weekend festivals.

I understand that but this is one of the risks you take when you decide to make music a career... nights and weekends are the "work season" it's not a 9-5 job. (And heck most musicians I know would love a nice steady gig like this LOL!)

As for festivals. They haven't done any in two years so I guess Disney doesn't consider that a big problem.

Yeah, we were a bit surprised to see them on the schedule last Sat. It was our last day and we hadn't expected them to be there so we didn't have them on them on our schedule. Luckily we had seen them several times earlier in the week. Once with Jason and 2x with Jamie. We enjoyed Jason, but as was mentioned, it's a much different show without Jamie. He is clearly the "entertainer" of the group.

LOL, I must have got a left-over one Friday, did see them added by Sunday.

I agree it's a good move bumping up the weekend entertainment, EPCOT even more than the other parks seems perfectly designed for just wandering on the weekend. Bound to bring the locals out more.

I saw the 2:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 shows today.

Boys were great as usual. All five of them were there. I heard all of the new songs and lots of others (no repeats on my sets)

Mark has a "haircut" (AKA as he seems to have shaved his head LOL!) ALso, I just went back and checked the photos in this thread and I think he has a new bass too.

They sounded and looked good!

This morning I bought a plane ticket to Orlando...for another birthday trip this April! :woohoo: I decided it was too long to wait until late June to hear more than one set!

I'll be at Epcot Easter evening, and might catch a set of Off Kilter IF my plane arrives on time and IF they are playing! Petula Clark will be the guest perfomer that night for the Flower Power concert.

I went and saw the first two shows today. Jamie seemed really crazy for the first one.... The Space Shuttle took off about mid way through the first show and thanks to the locals pointing it out I saw! Jamie then claimed that they 'did that just for us" or something like that. (ANd have you heard him sing Crazy??? RUN LOL!)

Anyway, I am going to be the minority here. I tend to like Jamie's singing better the Marks. (Unless he's trying Crazy again!)

Both shows were very good!

There are some songs that Mark used to sing that Jamie now sings - like "The Fields of Athenry" - and I preferred when Mark sang them. There are also some songs on their CD's that I've never heard them perform and wish they would: "Dark Island," "Back Home in Derry," and "Green Fields of France." I once requested that they sing their rap song. They didn't do it for me, but did for a cute blonde pre-teen - who said she had all their songs on her iPod!

Nancy,
Here's what I have heard on "Green Fields of France" Disney won't allow it EXCEPT maybe on days like Memorial Day so it's not in the rotation. (It's a sad song and I heard Disney said No)

I also heard that "Dark Island" has the same problem PLUS it needs strings.... Jamie has said he never expects to sing it in public!

"Dark Island" is mostly keyboard. They just need Jason to play that day! I can see why "Back Home in Derry" didn't get past the Disney censors!

I don't think they are not allowed to play outside Disney because last St Patrick's Day I saw them at a show in Orlando not anything to do with Disney. And trust me it was a GREAT show. I think the problem is that with performing 4-5 days a week at Epcot they don't have much time to travel to other events outside Disney.

CarolA
02-11-2008, 09:04 AM
Actually my understanding is that a few years ago they chose to quit doing the festivals just due to the travel. Several of them seem to have young kids and I heard that weighed in on the decision.

Now with this new schedule it would be harder for them to do festivals etc.

I agree the St. Patrick's Day show in Avalon Park was great, but I checked the Avalon Park website and it looks like they aren't doing anything for St. Patricks this year.....

I'm back from a great cruise out of San Juan, with a one-night stopover in Orlando at the end to get my Off Kilter fix! Our flight left PR an hour late Sunday afternoon, and it was 7:15 p.m. when I checked into the Swan. My son offered to take the bags to the room so I could hightail it to Epcot - in hopes that Off Kilter still had a 7:30 show. I just made it, and they DID play at 7:30! :woohoo: Beginning this Wednesday, they are starting their first show at 1:00, then 2:30, 3:30, 5:30, and 6:30. I don't know if that's what the schedule will be throughout the Flower and Garden Festival, but that's what it will be the rest of this week.

I thought earlier start and end times in the past were to coordinate with the Flower Power, Eat to the Beat, and Candellight Processional programs at the America Gardens Theater. I can understand them starting at 1:00 on Saturday and Sunday, but the concerts are at the same times throughout the week. Friday is a rehearsal day.

That would be fun. For us, maybe not for them. Tony is going to Puerto Rico. He'll be gone all next week. Jason Thomas will be playing fiddle in his place. I can't wait to see that - - should be different. I really enjoy Jason.

Yes, we'll meet for sure this time. Starting on Wed., the 9th, is when Jason will be there for Tony. So, I guess that means Tony will be back on the 16th.

Just look for me on the left by the light pole!

Whew...Tony is gone THIS week and back NEXT week! That makes sense...he is going to PR for HIS birthday, and I'm going to WDW for MY birthday!! :yay:

Um...why are you posting on the DIS right now instead of watching the boys? ;)

I was out there today. All the shows got rained out. Theirs and British Invasion. I finally gave up and came home at 5:30 because there was no end in sight and I figured Peter Noone would get rained out as well. I felt bad for the people who were there on vacation. Today was a total wash out.

NancyIL

That's a shame. :( I've never been there when a show was cancelled due to rain (knock on wood!) - although it's been close a few times. That would be disappointing for the vacationers.

I'm showing my age, but I loved Herman's Hermits when I was a kid...a very young one! ;) I enjoyed Petula Clark's last show on Easter Sunday, and I'm looking forward to the groups that will be there next week.

Happy bday to all those with bdays this month. I will be there May 4th after my 15k race there at Disney. I am hoping for a great show. Glad to hear they made more seating. We normally end up across the way (I guess you could say by the water) on the railing.

I just had to add - I was there once and they cancelled the last show of the day because of rain - good thing we were staying at Beach Club Villas because it wasn't that far to go back to the resort - if I made a special trip and they would have been cancelled that would have been upsetting but since I had seen them earlier in the day I was good.

Yup, I went yesterday. They sounded really good.

However, this was kind of sad - the keyboards were gone and it was all covered up. :sad2:

Well.....

Right now I have a reservation arriving on 4/20 so you may see me on your last day if you are still around. There are still a few isses to resolve. :rotfl2:

I am hoping to attend the 10th Anniversary of AK. It's actually probably tied with Epcot as my favorite park. I think's so unique and wonderful. So my plan is to fly to MCO Sunday morning, Epcot Sunday afternoon, work from my hotel Monday, take Tuesday off to go to AK and fly home at the CRACK of dawn Wed. We will see.

Not sure where we will be standing or sitting but I will be the one with pink in the back of my hair and my dh has a blue mohowk (not a tall one) and 14 earrings in his left ear (not hard to miss him) except he might be wearing a hat. I also hope to be wearing my finisher's medal from the Minnie 15k race early that day.

Hello!

I did make the sets on Sunday and let's just say "what happens at Disney stays at Disney" LOL!

The 10th Annivsary was nice, but not a big celebration. Nancy I am not sure if you guys got to hear Joe Rhode, but he was worth the trip alone. I really enjoyed his speech. And then like a true Groupie I stood in line and had him autograph two Larry Dotson AK prints for me. I don't have any autographs from OK LOL!!!

Hopefully they are performing NEXT Sunday (May 4th) so that I can see them again after the Minnie Race!

We did hear Joe Rohde speak, but ended up doing other things afterwards. Hearing Joe was the only official group thing we did. I saw the line to get Joe's autograph, and we didn't want to wait. The park was quite crowded that day, so we headed to Epcot for Barb's last few hours at WDW.

That was actually my only offical event (unless you count standing with the masses for the "rededication")

However, I decided to take Joe's advice. I did EVERY animal trail, I did all the "back paths" etc. LOL! Was there until about 6 PM and had a great time!

We followed Joe's advice, and did the Maharajah Jungle Trek. I think a great way to see the many little details in Animal Kingdom is to take the Wild By Design tour.

Oops...this is an Off Kilter thread! I understand from carlyle688 that Mark will be back today. I like it best when all 5 guys are there, but I wish they could have 6 every now and then - with either Jason or Billy.
