I am really looking forward to staying at HRH for 5 nights for the 1st time in 12/07. I do really love RPR so I am trying to decide if I want to do a split stay. The rate at RPR is about $25.00 less a night for a smaller room but since I am traveling alone the size of the room isn't that big a deal. I also love Tchoup Tchoup and plan to eat 1 or 2 meals there so it would be nice if I were staying there. So I am wondering what fans of the RPR have to say about HRH. I appreciate any feedback you can give me.
Thanks!!!!

I wouldn't switch for only $25 a night. The HRH is closer to the parks, and the pool is "hip." You can walk from the HRH to the CityWalk boat dock, and take that to the RPR for Tchop Chop. Then you can walk over to the PBH and check out their pool and restaurants. It's only a 10 minute walk. Or, you take the shuttle van between the hotels, even if it means waiting a few minutes for it to arrive.

and we just stayed at HRH a month ago. I wouldn't switch either! We didn't think the room size was THAT much bigger (well, it's only the 3 of us too.....). I liked the convenience of the close walk...THAT was nice! Didn't eat at any onsite places, so I'm no help there. The beds were okay and hotel okay. I would stay there again, but I prefer to stay RPR....the decor is very "hip" and modern and the rooms are clean and fresh (carpet, paint, etc....) I wasn't crazy about the lighting in the vanity area for applying makeup or the fact the tp was on the wall behind me...but, that's just me and my opinion/preferences...... Don't switch...stay at HRH....you can always go back to RPR next time after your experience at HRH.....

Hubby and I have always stayed at either PBH or RPR and we love RPR. We decided to try HRH for the first time for beerfest last year and were disappointed. I wasn't happy about the room and the attention wasn't the same. RPR is definitely the best for us and we love the hawaiian theme. Yes its close to the parks, but not so close that I would give up RPR for HRH. If you love RPR and ur going to eat at Tchoup Tchoup, then I would switch b/c the difference to the parks is not sooo.. big, IMHO, especially if ur going to Islands.=0)

After reading this I am thinking off cancelling my reservation at HRH and going back to RPR!

Melanie,
I wouldn't do that....at least try a night or two at HRH. As much as we like RPR (and prefer it to HR), I'm glad we tried it. I have no regrets of staying there and trying it..... You already have the res, might as well give it a try....don't forget...the rooms were just remodeled AND it IS a Loew's 4**** hotel still...... It's just a different theme/feel is all...... go for it!

I have stayed at both, and I prefer the HRH. But, as Bubba's Mom said, they are themed differently, and it is a matter of personal preference. They are both beautiful hotels.:thumbsup2

We've stayed at all 3 & DH & I prefer PBH. That is closely followed by HRH for location alone. RPR is a pretty distant 3rd for us. Our DS(15) prefers HRH & if you asked him, UO doesn't have but one hotel.

Thank you all for the great responses. I knew there would be people who love RPR as much as I do and I was curious to see how they felt about HRH. I am really looking forward to staying at HRH for the 1st time so I can be a member of the I stayed at all 3 club. Is the walk to CW alot shorter than RPR?I didn't realize it was so short. I am not really a pool person so that isn't a factor in my decision.I am still undecided about splitting the stay.I do that alot when I stay at WDW and it isn't a problem for me. If I don't like HRH I could always ask to switch to RPR. I didn't really care for PBH and would never stay there again. I really appreciate all the expert advise you all are winning to share. Can anyone tell me if the rooms are soundproof at HRH from both music and noise in next room? Also can anyone suggest good room requests at HRH.
Thanks!!!!!

From HRH to CW is the shortest walk....much shorter than from RPR. (that was the best part for me) If you don't like HRH, I guess you could always ask to be switched...I think someone here did that already. I didn't know you were trying to be a member of "all 3"....then, you definately have to stay there!!! We weren't in our room much, so I couldn't help you with the sound. Any room ending in '00' is good and if you don't book a pool view, you'll get garden view....and it's garden view everywhere!! Don't forget to ask about your Loew's upgrade......

And don't forget to report back to all of us here to let us know what you thought of HRH.....

i have stayed at all three and love the hrh the best.
i like the short walk to the parks.

i like the theme of the hotel and the staff. i like the layout of the rooms at hrh better and the great views of the park from the room i have had there.

last year i stayed at the rph and i had some issues. i was there when the staff was changing and service wasn't at it's best.

i have to say that the on site resturants at rph i preferred over the ones at hrh. the grounds at rph are wonderful but not enough to sway me from canceling my october ressies at hrh this year.

go and try the hrh. if you have issues there or it is not your thing, you can transfer to the rph. or, you can book 2 nights at hrh now and the rest of your stay at rph. your luggage will be transported to the other hotel for you.

we all have a preference on hotels at universal. it doesn't mean one is better than the others, just we feel more comfortable at a certain one.

stay at hrh and become a member of the 3 way club like i am.......:rolleyes1

Thanks for the great feedback.I know you are the HRH expert and I really appreciate your response.I will definetely stay atleast 3 nights at HRH.I travel alone so resort hopping is not an issue. I really do love RPR and Tchoup Tchoup so it would be convenient to stay there since I plan on eating at Tchoup Tchoup for atleast 2 meals. I know in the past I have wanted to stay at HRH and there wasn't a AAA rate available because I didn't book far enough ahead but now I have a deluxe double room for $191.00 which is a great deal. Can you give me any good recommendations for a deluxe room?I really want to be a part of the 3 way club too...........
it is such an elite group .
Thanks again for your help!!!(you too Bubba's Mom)
You guys are awesome!!!:)

I just read your title again, & now see you were only looking for opinions of those who prefer RPR. I didn't notice that before. My bad! I thought you were looking for opinions from those who had stayed at both resorts. I do agree that you should try all 3 for yourself, & see which you like best. Obviously, people's taste differs or all the hotels would be identical. It's not unusual for one person to love a resort & another not be thrilled with it. That's why it's a good idea to see for yourself. :)

i take pictures of the doors of the room i stay in at the on site hotel.
then i make notes on that of view, comfort, impression. i need to look threw my pictures to find what you need.

i travel solo now also and if i did a switch, it would be a lot easier.

the AAA rate for sept/oct low season at hrh is $191.20 + tax per night. that is what i have on one night stay, then mine increases.

for that cost, you got a good rate for hrh. stay and try the hrh for 3 nights. if you have a room and you have issues, call the front desk immediately and ask for the manager on call. don't let anything make you have a bad time on your first stay at hrh.

3 years ago i had an issue at the hrh which might have made me not return. but, i called for the night manager and had the situation solved immediatelly. this was at 3 in the morning, i didn't wait until morning to take care of the situation, i did it then.

i take the boat, transfer to another boat to do breakfast over at Islands at rph while staying at hrh. you can stay at hrh and do your dinners at rph.

hey.......i don't walk very far without my first cup of coffee.....have to take the boat...

tarheelmjfan, sorry, i always add my two cents to the hrh.

i do agree with you. i think people should try to stay at all the hotels in order to get a better appreciation of all 3 hotels.

since the rate is at a very good price for hrh, i say go for it.
you don't see prices like that usually. even pbh is cheaper than hrh.

if she is going to do a first time try at hrh, this is the time for it due to the cheaper price.

if she does not like it there, it is possible to switch hotels during the stay.

i did a split between pbh and hrh once.

maybe i should stop singing the praises for hrh.......if less people stayed there, the prices would come down.....
it's the old supply and demand theory that keeps those prices up at hrh

Thanks again for the great responses.I really appreciate all the feedback.
On past trips I have always past by HRH and thought I would really love to stay there and after the renovations it became even more appealing. I was looking for opinions from RPR fans who have stayed at HRH since we share a love for RPR I thought our tastes may be similar about HRH. I am definetely staying 3 nights at HRH.I really love hearing from anyone who feels strongly about their favorite resort and wants to share their opinions. I know in the end I will stay at HRH and have my own opinions and hopefully they will all be as positive as macraven's.:)
Thanks again!!!!!!!!

One thing to consider is the 2 resorts have very different atmospheres. If you're prepared for that & enjoy HRH for what it is, you'll have a great stay.

i stayed last year at rph and absolutely loved the lobby there, especially the open area with the water area in the middle.

but, if i compare it to hrh lobby, i can't. too different of a set up.
the outside balcony area of the lobby is beautiful at hrh.

at rph, i walked thru the pool area to get to the boat or walkway to the parks.
not used to that but not a problem. didn't see much on security in that area at rph as i do at hrh.

rph is a much larger resort. more spread out, more rooms, 3 towers.
hrh is more condensed with a smaller garden area.

the overhead at the boat dock at rph is great. no overhead at the hrh dock.

they each have their +'s and - 's
it's the little things i picked up on for differences of the 2 resorts.

I wouldnt change hotels. Give HRH a shot. could be your new favorite. ;) We love Tchoup Chop too and it is not a problem to get there at all form the other on-sites. A change in atmosphere between the different on-sites is very nice.

I hate HRH! Don't stay there! Stay anywhere else! The hotel has roaches! The staff is extremely rude! The pool looks like it's never been cleaned! I got food poisoning from the restaurant. They overcharge for everything! The beds are like sleeping on rocks. Oh yeah, I can't forget the bed bugs. You won't get any sleep. They play Rock & Roll music nonstop loud enough to vibrate the walls. Kids run wild through the halls all day & all night, & the hotel just encourages it. Hmm...... What else can I come up with? :scratchin

Do you think it worked? :rotfl2: I'd like to see the rates go down too.

Thanks for all the great advice!!!!!

oops...........

i have found that security seems more obvious at hrh than at rph.

i travel alone and have wondered about going back to my room at rph at 3 in the morning after hhn......

that is one major plus for me in staying at hrh.
doors are locked at a certain time and you need your key card to open them up.
they were not locked at rph last october when i went.

maybe it was just a fluke.

i know anyone that wants to get in to a hotel can do so.
if there is a crowd going in from the boat, someone will have a card key to open the door.

but 2 years ago that did happen and i was staying on the club level.
all i did was call on the phone and security was there in minutes.

some dude was trying to hook up with some dudette.......
