We did it again! We rebooked onboard for a dummy date, and will move it to 2/14/2009 (Feb. vacation week) when the dates open up. Who else is planning that far ahead?:rolleyes1
It will be me, DH, DS 17, DS 15 & DS 12 when we sail. I figure the best way to get over cruise withdrawal is the start planning again;)
We are hoping for a western!

Hi Sue,

You are not the only one planning ahead. :rolleyes1
We also did the same thing as you, while on board. :thumbsup2

We are not sure which week we are going to do yet, but we are definitely planning to go again in Feb 2009. We really want to do the Western this time.

Our friends also booked while on board and are planning on going in Feb 2009.

Ditto, here we also rebooked and will travel President's week, as it is the week the kids always have off from school, at that time my girls will 11 and 13.
I guess we will wait with anticipation until this Fall when they release the dates.

Know what you mean Sue, it would almost be like a repeat cruise of the one we just finished...:rotfl:

Hi Christine,

I was thinking they would probably realize the beginning of 2009 late this spring? Do they usually do it in the fall? I have honestly not paid attention before now. When we booked on board, the lady at the desk thought it would be by this summer, but she was new.

Thanks
Pam

Hi Sue and Christine...

I wish I was still there...

Sue how is the weather there getting better?

I can hardly wait until the release the cruise dates for 2009. I believe we are going to go in Feb 2009 for sure. Alex is going to be 18 (OMG) by then, and probably the last time he will be able to hang out in the stack....

Hi,

We just booked for Feb 2008, but I want to get in earlier this time and hopefully get the cheapest rate possible! We were on the Feb 23 2007 Western, and have booked for the Feb 24 2008!

Hi guys...hope all's well..for those of you we cruised with before, doesn't it seem like the trip was so long ago?
I don't think we'll be joining you Feb 2009. We are going to keep bumping our DCL ressies for a while.
We have decided to take a cruise on the new RCI ship, Independence of the Seas that week in 2009. The itinerary seemed a bit more exciting (new ports), and the kids like the idea of the ship's amenities.
I hope you all have a great time!
We'll be back on DCL some day, I'm sure....

P.S.-Christine-Here's hoping we have better weather to get down to Florida next time, LOL!
Pam-my guys said to say hi to your guys!

Hi Sue!!!
My boys say hi to your guys!

Yes, it does seem like the trip was a very long time ago. Thats too bad you won't be joining us in Feb 2009. We will miss not having all of you on board. You will have to let us know what the family thinks of the new RCI ship. I have been thinking of taking a trip on it as well.

Hmmm... may be rethinking Feb2009...
I just found out that the so-called reduced deposit was not a reduction on the cruise price, but just less to pay up front (the direct OPPOSITE of what the RCI "certified vacation planner" told me)...
Sooo...if the Feb vacation week of 2009 is a western, we will probably sail with Disney (where my heart is anyways). The kids said they like the stuff on RCI better, but had just as much fun on DCL, so it's all up in the air right now.

Pam-I bumped into Christine on the other board. It was so strange!
That board is not nearly as actice as the DIS-not one person has signed up on the cruise meet thread yet-I guess they aren't as obsessive huh?
So, maybe we will sail together again!:confused3

Hi Sue,

That would be great if we were on the same cruise again. We (which means me) are impatiently waiting for them to release the 2009 dates, so we can decide what we are going to do. I think we are going to try and make a Western one work. Oldest will be finished high school and is probably taking a year off and the youngest will be at the right spot that missing a week should not impact him as much. As long as I can plan it for the early part of Feb, when they are just starting 2nd semister.

I cann't believe you ran into Christine on the other board, that is funny... :rotfl2:

We are busy planning our trip to Mexico this Feb. We are going to the west coast, we have never been. We can hardly wait.

Hopefully the dates are released by the first week in December and we can decide what we are all doing and hopefully start planning a cruise together. I have my fingers and toes crossed.

Mexico sounds fun! I am jealous! We are stuck at home this year. No big trips planned until 2009. If DCL turns out to be an eastern for the week we want to go (Feb 14 approx), we'll probably keep the RCI reservation (it's a western stopping in Cozumel, Costa Maya and Belize). So, I'll be checking to see what's up when the rates come out in December too. In any case, I'm keeping my deposit with DCL and will continue to bump it along-I'll definitely be back on board some day.

Hi Sue, well we have decided to book the Western Cruise on Feb 7, 2009. The week before the kids are off. We didn't really want to put it off any longer than that, as the oldest will probably be in University and who knows when we would be able to go again. Maybe some day we can be on board again soon.

I am about 15 minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel, & about 5 minutes to the George Washington Bridge. DH works in the city. I guess it would take about 2 hours to get to Philly from my home.

This is my first Cariabbean cruise. I am very excited. Have you traveled on the Magic before?

.

We are also coming in the night before, though I am not sure which route we are going to take as of yet.

Here are my options I am thinking about
:confused3
If you take the Disney bus, then you can stay at the airport hotel, (I love the Marriott which is very affordable) or the Hyatt inside the airport (very expensive, but very easy) if you say at the Marriott, it has a free shuttle bus, & the next morning you can take it back to the airport & ride with the Disney bus to the port.

We might hire Happy Limo & have them drive us to the port & stay at the Radisson. The Radisson has free shuttle in the AM to the port.

Another option is, rent a car one way from Hertz drive to the Radisson, & or any hotel close to the port, next am drop the family off at the port, & take the car back to the rent a car place & they will drive you to the port

Last choice would be rent a car for the week, & leave it at the Radisson (free) & take the shuttle the next am to the port.

Hello GMark, Patricia & DisNutt - Mind if I join in? We're also booked on the same cruise, 2/14/09. It's me, DH & DD17, DSs 13 (one will be turning 14 on the cruise!). I know, you're thinking "Wow, how'd she do that? Just one turning 14?" My DD & one DS are my step-children!

We're very excited, as we've only been on a 3 & 4 day DCL cruise in the past. 7 days sounds GREAT!

Hoping to book SW airlines (I have 1 free ticket). We'll be flying in on Fri. as well. Has anyone thought about staying @ a Disney hotel the night b4 (free Magical Express), then getting a car/van to pick you up there? I think the DCL bus is way too expensive for 5 of us. We can't stay @ the airport 'cause the rooms only sleep 4...anyone know if we can squeeze 5 into the Radisson near the ship:confused:

Hi Jodi welcome. On one of our cruises there was 5 of us, & we stayed in the Radisson's suite. If I can remember, our room had 2 queen size beds, (or maybe it was kingsize) plus a queen pull out couch. There was plenty of room for 5. I think we might also stay at the Radisson the night before. First I want to tackle the airline tickets.

Welcome moosemom, where are you from?

I can't believe this same cruise (stateroom/itinerary/date) was ~$4100 last year and now will be ~$5600 next year!

The price for children went from ~$560+fees to over $1100.

Wow gmark2000 that's a big increase. :scared1: When we went on our Mediterranean cruise last June on the "Magic" The price was only $1400. per person Cat 12 (which were were upgraded) and it was for 11 days.

Jodi, with each DC (4) trips, each one was booked one year in advanced. I think it is more fun, to start planning early especially with the boards. Your trip will be near perfect, or if any bumps come along the way, you will know how to handle it, not to mention, all of the friends you will make along the way.

My DC has been 2- 3days 1- 4day 1-11day we have never gotten up at 5am on any of them. On all the cruises on the last day, we had to be off the ship by 8:30am. If we wanted to have a sit down breakfast (with our severs) than you will need to be at the restaurant at the assigned time that Disney gives you, which is really early ( you will still have late sitting or early sitting). We always opted to go to the buffet at our own time, which was usually the latest. I guess it also has to do what time your flight is also & if you want a sit down breakfast.

On our last day, we always plan to take the last flight out of Orlando, & spend the day in one of the parks. We leave for the airport around 3pm for a 6pm flight.

I have never been on a 7 day cruise, so if anyone has the info about a 5am wake up, please fill us in.

Jodi, I am very excited too  My DH thinks I am nuts. LOL

Ok guys, here's another silly question (can't believe I'm obsessing this early:lmao: ).I drink A LOT of water & have heard people bring their own on board in coolers.* So does this mean you go to a local grocery store, buy a cooler on wheels, then fill it w/ water?* Same for beer, my DH loves Guiness & it'd be a lot cheaper to bring a 6 pack or 2 than buy it on board (he's got this thing about it being in cans, blech:confused: ).* You'd have to take a town car or the like from the airport to a port hotel & make the stop along the way, right?Just trying to figure out if this is how people actually do this...obviously you don't bring a cooler on the plane.* And do they really let you bring this stuff on??

Hi Jodi,

Most of the Limo Companies will let you stop at the store.

You might want to bring a soft sided collapsable cooler with you, & then once near the port stop & filler up.

I am also a big water drinker. I had 4 empty water bottles that I refilled every night on the ship. I was all for buying the water bottle plan, & ended up, filling up each eve on deck 9.

I also, bought my own Fridays Pina Coloda & a bottle of wine. It saved lot's on our bar bill.

Hey all!

DH and I will be booking this weekend. I hope I don't jinx it by posting already. :scared:

I just have to call in with our CC and put the deposit down. Our room is currently on courtesy hold.

We went on our first cruise Feb 2005, which was the Disney Western cruise and loved it! No other vacation has really compared, and this is the soonest we have been able to get back.

I am sure as it gets closer, more people will be posting. :goodvibes I was able to read through most- some of you have been booked for a very long time!

So, happy one year until our cruise!!:woohoo:

Hi There~

Welcome to our thread. I have a couple of questions for you? First where in NY state are you from? How many will be going on the cruise?

When you sailed in 2/05 how was the weather, was it smooth sailing? Please tell We are all ears, right Jodi :dance3: LOL

Actually this will be our first 7 day on the Magic. I only sailed on the Magic once before last June in Europe. I have sailed on the Wonder 3 times.

Do you plan to come out the night before? As you can see I am a planner.

Welcome aboard

:) Hi There~

Welcome to our thread. I have a couple of questions for you? First where in NY state are you from?

Central NY- Syracuse to be exact. And you?[/COLOR]
How many will be going on the cruise?

It will be my husband (will be 31) and myself (will be 31 as well).
When you sailed in 2/05 how was the weather, was it smooth sailing? Please tell We are all ears, right Jodi :dance3: LOL

We did the western the 3rd week of Feb. My coworker did the eastern in the second that year (It was weird, we got on the boat she was just getting off)... Anyways, our weather was great. I will admit, the first night was rough. Something about going through that area between Florida and Miami which is usually bad. But the good news is that I do not think that is the course for the Eastern. My coworker said they had good weather every day, but the first two days were a little chilly (60s).

My stomach did okay on the trip. I took a lot of ginger pills, but also know that I am prone to motion sickness.
Actually this will be our first 7 day on the Magic. I only sailed on the Magic once before last June in Europe. I have sailed on the Wonder 3 times.

So you definately will know your way around the ship. The European cruise must have been wonderful!

Do you plan to come out the night before?

I definately think we will come the night before. I would guess we will stay overnight near/at the airport. I expect we will not get in until late.

Last time we did the Budget rental car thing, and it was a bit of a hassle. This time I think we will look into either taking the Disney shuttle or a towncar from someone like fltours.com. I like the idea of the grocery shop just in case...

You?

As you can see I am a planner.

I am a planner too. I enjoy it really. I already bombarded my husband with a handful of questions, and he asked, do I really have to go through a whole year of this?
I said, no, I should have everything settled well before next Feb!
Welcome aboard

Thank you.
:goodvibes

All of my responses are above in purple... I tried seperating them out, but it did not seem to work.

Welocme to our eager little family, VavaLynn!:dance3: :woohoo:

I'm SOOOO excited to hear that the weather wasn't too cold in Feb. I'm hoping for the same when we go...praying to the weather god, Earl:worship: ...:rotfl2: .

Syracuse, eh? It's pretty cold up there right now, huh? I'm in Middletown CT, not far from Hartford.

If you have ANY questions, plese ask Patty, she'll definitely know the answer. Which reminds me...no one has gotten back to us on that early wake up call question I had...

Patty, I think the deal is this, they wake you up @ like 5:30 am @ the first port of call on the Eastern cruises...something about customs?:confused3 That's ok, maybe we'll just stay up from the night b4, right?:lmao:

VaVa, tell your husband he's in good company, as I drive my husband INSANE w/ daily talk of the cruise that is a year away. He says Disney's Year of a Million Dreams is his Year of a Million Nightmares w/ his DisneyFreak wife.:rotfl: Oh well...

I wanted to share a thread I found this morning

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23406185&posted=1#post23406185

DH and I began discussing the details of the cruise and I anticipated that we would most likely use priceline and stay the night before near the Orlando airport.

But the link above suggests getting vouchers to stay at Hyatt Hotels and can be used for the one in the orlando airport for only 135.00. We have never stayed there as the cost is usually well over 179.00 and would use priceline to get a 3star hotel for around 65.00 instead- we have 'won' the Marriott, Holiday Inn Select and the Renn.

We would like the added convenience of being able to stay at the airport as we will not be able to get in before 10pm.

I wanted to throw this out there in case case anyone else was considering night before accomodations. I do not know all of the final details, but I will be looking into it.

Happy Sunday!

Hi Girls,

I just booked the Hyatt for I think $145.00 a night. We are booked for 2/13/09 and the night we come back 2/21/09 We're spending the day at Disney 2/21/09.

Since we're staying in the Hyatt, we can spend the day at Disney with our rent a car, & then return it late that night at the airport hotel. Have dinner at (airport)Chillis, and then swim on the roof top (heated pool)

Last Feb, DD & I were bumped from Delta. They put us up in the airport Hyatt. It was one of the nicest Hotel we have stayed in. We had a blast in the roof heated pool. We were swimming while the planes were flying over us. It was really awsome.

Are you girls going to stay there as well? If so, reserve your rooms asap, for they only hold a small amount with the coupons. (that is what the reservationist told me)

Now I have to deceide if we should rent a car (one way) or take the disney bus:confused3

Next month my DH DD & myself are going to Disney World for Easter break, just before we leave is when I will buying our airline tickets for 2/09 also, having a high school reunion with the girls in Vegas 6/08 :scared: I am going a bit nuts with all of these trips. LOL

Hi I used the voucher, & got a conformation # that directed me to an 800# which then, took my reservation for both of the days.

Have you deceided if you 2 are renting a car, or taking a limo, or are you using the Disney bus to the port?

vavalynn2
02-24-2008, 03:48 PM
Ok, great. Thanks for the info. I will get my coupon tonight and then reserve once it arrives. I guess I am surprised that you can not print your own voucher and have to have it mailed.

We are leaning towards a limo company. :drive: I may have mentioned before, it was really a hassle to use the budget rentacar on our last cruise. And since we will not be going to the parks or anywhere else before or after the cruise, I do not see the need for the rental.

I am looking into happy limo for a town car or something small. I found info on mousesavers.com and have found the site to be a great resource. They highly recommend them and it will not be too much more than the disney shuttle. They offer a grocery stop on the way so we can get some beverages and anything we forgot.

We would love to fly jetblue, but know that their schedules come out later than most other airlines and do not have many different flights to chose from. We will most likely go with Delta or United and try to stay away from connecting in areas like JFK, PHL or PIT in the middle of Feb.

So that is where we are at. Only a year away.....

ps- This past December, I helped arrange a trip to Vegas for myself, DH and my friends w sign others from college- 15 of us all together. So I feel your stress. But it was a great time!!:cool1:

I will be traveling without my husband too :guilty: My DD 13 & myself always go to Disney world for President's week (the last 5 years) this was the first year we missed.

Who were your servers on the Wonder? Did you have a great trip? Any tips for us?

Now that you rebooked onboard, are you going to trasfer to an agent. I did this on the Med cruise, & got the 10% plus we received on board credit from Disney & then from AAA.

Are you flying out next year on the 13th or the day of?

Have you done a 7 day before?

Hello everyone!
My family and just got back from this cruise and rebooked onboard for the same time next year. The cruise was in a word AWESOME! The weather was around the 80's and although the water was a little bit cool at Castaway Cay, it quickly warmed up after a few minutes. This was our 3rd cruise and second on Disney. The only problem we had was that one of the engines was not working properly so we got to Castaway Cay around noon instead of 9am. The shore excursions were cancelled due to slightly choppy weather. But true to Disney form, we were all given a $100credit (per stateroom) and free drinks in the atrium. At no point did we feel worried nor did we notice the engine trouble.

Glad you had a great time. Jodi & I have a question for you.

Was there a 5am wake up call for immagration? Any info on this would be great ;) I read on another thread, that the Magic was so.....crowed, plus he said that the adults were very rude. (he actually said, the North Easterners were the rude ones :confused3) Is this what you saw during the week? Just wondering?

:offtopic: I met a girl last eve, that just got off a cruise ship (brand new not Disney) that left from NYC & went to the Bahamas & Disney World. She said the ship was so crowed, that you had to wait in line for dining, & once there, you couldn't get drinks, or if you did get them, forget about refills. She said, everywhere on the ships, there were mass amounts of people. (The whole time I was secretly thinking, I'm happy we booked with Disney)

How many are you traveling with?

We are all at a point where we are looking into hotel & figuring out transportation to the port. What was your experience on this.

So many questions LOL

But back to the $1,000,000,000,000 question....what is up with the 5 a.m. wake up CALL??? Is it true?

And what's up with the rude people from the northeast? Was the ship really THAT crowded? ARGHHH! These are things that I have to know now!!:lmao: . Hey, glad the weather was warm at least!:beach: Is it almost thistimenextyear?:clown:

OK, what you need to do, is contact Dreams Unlimited Travel, they are giving out double as of now. Let them know that you booked on Disney, & you are thinking about transferring your booking to them What are they offering.

Believe it or not you will still get Disney's offering & then more from Dreams.
I did this last year with AAA. My agent didn't know what the heck she was doing, I had to walk her thru everything (thank God for these boards) and it worked out great. I would stick to a company that deals with Disney as Dreams Unlimited does.

FYI not only did I get the credits from both, but Disney up graded us as well:cool1: so, don't think Disney will be mad doing this.

We just got off the Magic President's week and booked our cruise for next year. We also know of few other families that rebooked. My family is DW and the kids will be DS9, DS6, DS3 and DD1 this time next year. We all can't wait to be back on the Magic and in the Caribbean especially since we came back to 10 inches of snow on the ground and more in the forecast! I guess a year isn't too far away. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

See you real soon!

We just got off the Magic last week after the president's week Eastern cruise. There is a early customs check at St. Thomas but not 5 am. The earliest check was for morning shore excursions and that was 6:30 am in the Walt Disney theater. The rest of the passengers were cleared depending on which floor you were staying on. The times were 7:15, 7:30 and 7:45 am. The ship must clear customs before disembarkment at 8 am. The whole family must attend with passports in hand. It was handled very smoothly. It took us about 10 minutes then we grabbed some breakfast.

As for the crowd and rudeness, I did respond to the other thread also. This was our sixth cruise and the Magic was full as always. Just about all of our cruises with DCL have been full ships independent of time of the year or vacation schedules. As far as rudeness of the Northeasterners, people are rude from all parts of the country. The thread was started by someone living in the south and commented on the passengers from Boston and New York. People have to understand that the pace of life is different dependent on where you live. I grew up in Maryland and Southern California but now live in Westchester County, New York. Believe me the three areas I have lived are markedly different in types of people and pace. I am sure that people from Hawaii would tell you that the pace of the South is to frantic and rude. Actually, after traveling a lot around the country and Europe, I find the passengers on the Disney Cruises very nice, pretty well mannered and we all have one thing in common, our kids and/or the mouse. This is what keeps bringing us back!!! pirate:

Hi guys! Here's the scoop. The earliest immigration time was for those going on shore excursions at an early a.m. time. I believe the started around 6 am. They seemed to run on 30 minute increments. The next time slot would be for the lower decks (ie decks 1-3, the 4-7, etc). We were on deck 2 and our time was for 6:30 am, since we felt this was too early, we decided to take a later slot. The last slot is for people who are not going ashore or lazy people like us who didn't want to get up that early. We still ended up going ashore about 1 hr later. Some people just go in their PJ's (we did). They will have coffee and donuts, danish, etc to eat while you're waiting in line. As for it being crowded, well what ship wouldn't be crowded on February vacation. No, we didn't find the people on the cruise rude. Everyone we met was very nice and yes they were from NY or New England. By the way we are from Massachusetts and as you can tell rude is not in our vocabulary. We had the best time and for any of our fellow cruisers who didn't, it was because of their own doing. How could someone be unhappy on a Disney cruise:confused3. We never had to wait for dinner and our drinks were plentiful. We absolutely loved our servers and I do mean this sincerely. Usually the one's complaining that loudly, would be complaining regardless of what cruise ship they were on. Let me know if you need anymore info.:)

Welcome-

Rubbergypsy -We are right down the thruway from you in Syracuse.[/B][/B]

Shmoopea- Thanks for the immigration info. PJs do seem like the way to go.

Wachsdds- Sounds like you had a great trip. :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you- PURTYPAT1, for the advice about the Hyatt. :thanks: My gift certificate or whatever it is called is on its way. We will be coming in the night before as there is too much weather to worry about in February here.

Disnutt- We have decided to do the rental car over a limo service. I have already peeked at car rental rates for the day and it just seems to make more sense for us to do it. There are just two of us and looks like with tax it will not be over 50.00 each way. And then of course we can stop where ever we like on the way.

But if we were to book a limo service, I was talking to HappyLimo.com. Mousesavers.com has a coupon on the site for them. They seem to come highly recommended.:thumbsup2

Up next... keeping my fingers crossed that airfare won't be too outrageous.

When we went on our last cruise, I often used a site about disney cruises. They had an excellent detailed map of the Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area with hotels, stores, and rental car agencies marked. Does anyone know where I could get something like this or know what I am talking about?

Thanks again!!

And hopefully we will not have to snowblow the driveway again by morning.

Glad you had a great time. I have a few questions if you don't mind. When did you buy your airline tickets last year? Did you leave out of NY? Did you get a good fare. I was shocked at the fare of airline tickets.:scared1:

I also saw ticket shock when we booked the our cruise a year ago. We were finding prices with United, American, and Delta of about $800-$900 per ticket. Ouch! We held off to see what Jetblue priced out at which did come out until October. Talk about stress in waiting! However, Jetblue priced out at $450 from JFK/ Laguardia and $399 out of Stewart. We went with Stewart for the first time. We live in Northern Westchester County so it was an easy airport to get to. The only problems with Stewart was the delays. On our flight to Orlando, our delay was because the Jetblue pilots are required to sleep at JFK. Of course, the pilots were over an hour late to the flight. On our flight home, we were delayed 3 hours because the prior flight was delayed from Rochester secondary to snow and then another 30 minutes due to the fact they were short a flight attendant. I am not sure if we are going to fly out of Stewart next time.

We flew down to Orlando Thursday prior to the cruise. I wanted to allow time in case of weather cancellations to in the worst case drive down. We stayed at WDW at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We rented a car for a Thursday and Friday and enjoyed the parks. We turned in the car Saturday morning and had Tiffany Limousine take us to and from the ship. It was much cheaper for our family of six. I hope this helps.

Wachsdds-Welcome to the group! I didn't see that other rudeness thread you mentioned. I've lived in and visited lots of places and noticed differences in which behaviors are considered rude. When I lived in CT (shout out to Jodi!) it was 'rude' of me to follow my old 'polite' WV tendency to chat up the check out lady. There were so many people behind me in line that my leisurely check out was keeping people from getting home to their families so I learned to shut up and just smile at folks. What I thought was being 'nice' was actually rather inconsiderate considering the needs of those around me. I still prefer to talk to check out folks but I let them take the lead now. :)

Shmoopea- Glad to know that we can go down in our pajamas. I'll know to bring a hat to cover my bed head!

Valvalynn-I'll check out Happy Limo! We're going to have at least 8 folks 2 of whom are very heavy packers. I'm not sure we'll all fit in a rental van. Maybe we could do 2 rentals? I have more research to do!:surfweb:

Glad to know that some people thought that it wasn't the New Englanders that were "rude" on the ship. While I am from CT, I don't think that has anything to do with how rude & heinous I can be...I think it's just in the genes:rotfl:

PJS on the early immigration is the way to go it seems:cool1: !

I have a question for ya'll who are renting a car...where do you return the car? At the port? Then do they bring you to the ship? Or how do you do this whole thing? I'd much rather do that than take HappyLimo so we could stop wherever we want...

We're planning on flying on Fri. as well, however, I can't rule out renting a one-way from up here & driving down on Thurs. to save at least one way worth of airfare (there are 5 of us). I'd have to "crunch" numbers & see what gives...Those are pretty steep prices you guys are talking about for this years' trip, sheesh!

Hey DisNutt, did you sign up for the Goofy again for '09?:upsidedow

Our little thread is growing! I can't wait!:cheer2: :yay: I have to admit, though, that in addition to my DH, the DKids even think I'm a bit premature w/ my level of excitation!!

Hi Everyone

I have been traveling to Orlando, RT NS for President's week the lsst 5 plus years. What I do, is book 330 days in & usually always book one ways. I have never paid over 300.00 RT non stop. I usually pay ball park of $250.00

We only travel on holidays or Jersey week, so 330 days is the way to go for me. Honestly, what ever price I get, I usually never see it lower. Even Jet blue, or Southwest, never goes below $200.00 RT on a holiday, which would be President's week.

I am flexable on the airlines(though I am not a big fan of USair) & flexable with airports. That said, I will be booking in a few weeks, for 2/13/09 this will also give me peace of mind.

Jodi, with a Rent a car, you should reserve it, for a one way, where it says one way on the internet. On the phone last week, I reserved Enterprise 2/14/09 to drive to the port. At the port, they have a shuttle that will take us to the Magic. Total charges = 36.45 for a compact(Holds 5 passengers)We are 2 adults & 2 children

I have the same rent a car on reserve for 2/21/09 Enterprize will pick us up at the port, and the we will drive to Orlando, spend the day in the World, & then off to the Hyatt that night.

For those of you, who need a place, here is the link for the Hayatt hotel. It comes to $141.00 a night which is a great deal. We are staying the night before, & the night after the cruise. Keep in mind, if you choose the Hyatt, you need to reserve the room now, since they only take a few certificates reservations.

https://www.certificates.hyatt.com/p...CertsStay.aspx

Since we are staying at the Hyatt, we are thinking about taking the Disney bus to the port, instead of the one way rent a car, unless anyone wants to share a limo. We are 4.

Hope this helps

i booked this past pres week trips airfare in the beginning of July, it was shortly after airtran released july fares. i paid 132 one way, so 264 rt, they were non stop flights and i thought it was a great deal. the year before i paid the same although we flew out of buffalo and that was a pain in the bad weather. i also bought those tickets closer to december, it really is a crapshoot, there are deals you just have to be lucky enough to find them. i plan on looking at the 330 day mark as posted above.

Booked the Hyatt today. It only took two days for the voucher to arrive. At the time they still had rooms left for the voucher. We look forward to not having to drive anywhere after travelling.

Also, booked Avis one way rentals for the day of and the day we return from the cruise.
Getting there:36.20/44.92 compact
Coming back: 39.60/44.55 compact, but may get free upgrade
The Cape Canaveral Avis has their own website http://www.aviscapecanaveral.com/
And if you give them your email, you get a coupon for a free upgrade *if available. Avis is in the MCO terminal which will be convenient and the return appears to be a short drive from the cruise ship in Port Canaveral. We used Budget before, but as of now they do not have rates for Feb '09.

It is early to rent a car, but I just wanted to get a reservation for something since the rates are out. Although, we may be interested in sharing a limo but we are only two.

Jodi -DH also thinks that my excitement is a little premature. But I guess I can't help it. We had a wonderful time on the Western and can not wait to go back. And well, I love planning trips :)

PURTYPAT1 -Thanks for the advice on the airfare. I marked the 330 day mark in my calendar. No matter what time of the year we go it ranges from 250-325. The first day I see flights I like (Friday 13th after 4pm) I will most likely book.

I just realized we will be fliying on Friday the 13th. Yikes! :scared1:

Thanks again. And time to clear out the driveway... again. :cold:

Hi, We just got back from the 2/16 Magic cruise and it was wonderful. We really didn't encounter any rude people on the cruise. But I'm from Boston so maybe I just don't notice rude behavior any more.:lmao: :lmao: .

Anyway, I'd like to book the same dates for next year but DH is thinking of switching to Royal Caribbean because it goes out of NJ and we would save a lot not paying for airfare. We paid almost $1600 for airfare this trip for 4 people so it really does add signifigantly to the cost of the trip. We've only cruised on Disney and it is comfortable but our kids are getting older DS will be 17 next year and DD14.

Has anyone cruised with Royal Caribbean out of NJ? If yes, what did you think?

Hi Sandra,

Glad you had a good time. I was following your cruise thread, & had fun doing so.

I wrote in an earlier thread, that I met a women then other night, who just came back from leaving out of NJ. I was shocked as she told me that there were lines everywhere. Even dinner. She said, that it was hard getting drinks never mind getting refills. It just didn't seem as organized to handle the President's week crowd, (that's what she told me)

I have always wanted to cruise out of NY or NJ too, but that story kinda freaked me out. I will now do much reasearch. Maybe you should go to Cruise Critic and check it out reports

PURTYPAT1-we booked at cat 9 for this past 3 night cruise. Last pres week I booked a cat 11 on the 4 night wonder. Both cruises were using the annual pass discounts and this year the discount was for a cat 9 and last year it was for a cat 11. I am almost thinking of changing my cat 12 to the 9 , as there is no guarantee that we will be upgraded.

rubberygypsy-I have not flown president's week in a few years. I have been going the week or two weeks after to Florida.

We used to look into Rochester and Albany, but it is not convenient for middle of February not knowing what the weather will do (like doing the driveway AGAIN this morning). I hope to grab anything under 300 a person that is leaving on Friday after 3pm and Returning anytime on Saturday or Sunday starting 330 days out as suggested by PURTTPAT1. I just want to get out of here the day before the cruise.

Jodi-Yes, I am going Goofy again! I have a friend who went down w/ me this year and she 'only' (her words-not mine) did the full. Once she saw my groovy Goofy medal she wanted in on the action and got me to sign up while I was still weak from running.

Sandy-You must just be immune to the higher rudeness levels which are native to the Boston area!:rotfl: I'm sure there was rudeness going on all around you but you were incapable of recognizing it. Hope you come on our cruise not RC!

I'm hoping that I'll have a few free SWA tickets because I've been flying for work a lot. That can help defray the cost of the tickets for our family of 5!

Have a great weekend! We're off to pick up our new puppy we're adopting today! I'll be busy doing housebreaking patrol!:sad2:

Wachsdds - The Goofy is a race @ Disney World. Over marathon weekend they have a 1/2 marathon on Sat (you get a Donald Duck medal), and a full marathon on Sun. (Mickey Medal). Now if you are GOOFY enough to do BOTH races, 13 miles on Sat. & 26 on Sun. you get all said medals AND a Goofy medal!! It's crazy....but fun!

Just an FYI- Budget car rental rates are now out. We used them last time. It was okay, but we booked with AVIS for now. Both companies seem to have similar reviews.

I have a large credit with jetblue and wondered if you would trust getting out of the NE knowing you would have to connect at JFK in the middle of winter?

It would save us some money, but I would hate to miss the boat.

Thank you. :thumbsup2

VaVa - Thanks for the heads up on Budget...If you could leave on JetBlue the Thurs. b4 the cruise I would definitely chance it. If you have that much credit with them, that would far outweigh the extra nights hotel, no? I'd go for it...but definitely leave on Thurs.

Will you stay at the Hyatt the night before the cruise, or Saturday night after the cruise.

Wow 13 miles, good for you. I am a power walker, I try to walk about 3 1/2 miles in one hour. I am also a swimmer.

I looked like such a dork, swimming laps, in the small adult pool, last June (on the Med cruise) in-between highly intoxicated Disneyiers :rotfl2:

I know it's early, but if anyone wants to power walk on sea days, or sea night, I'm game. :thumbsup2

When I called to make the Hyatt reservation, they never even asked for my gift certificate number. I think you can make a reservation and say that you will have a CHIOCE certificate.

We are booked right now just for the night before the cruise. We may fly back on Sunday.... depending on airfare. And if so, we are also thinking about staying at MCO if possible.

wow great rate-that is what i paid this past feb nonstop airtran purchased in july. i checked continental and the fare for leaving on the 12th of feb is 144 and that is with one stop. i prefer nonstop esp during the winter months so i guess i will have to wait for airtran or jetblue. they seem to be the only carriers out of rochester that go nonstop. sometimes delta does, i will have to keep watching.

Hi Jodi,

You are doing it right, try checking very early tomorrow morn. Your flights should be listed then. It will be 330 day in. Kaywak will take you to the website, & then you book from there. Kayak will let you book early before Travelocity, or Orbitz.

I have never used this strategy before.... buying a one way ticket as soon as the rates come out for the departing flight and then waiting for the next part of the information to come out for the returning flight.

And it has worked for you?

I only have booked round trip in the past, but I found a flight today with united. Leaving 2/13 from SYR at 725pm and arriving MCO through dc by 11:54pm for only 125.00!! That is an excellent rate providing we can find a flight home for under 200.00.

What do you think?

Hi Jodi,

Next year we leaving Friday the 13th & should be in Orlando by noon & staying at the Hyatt. I think we will go to Universal or Disney for the day. I check the taxi cost & it was $70.00 one way:scared1: so, I reserved a car for the day total of $32.51

OK now for our Disney plans

Next week we are going to Orlando. My husband is joining us, which I am thrilled. (He doesn't fly well :headache: )

We're staying at the Sheridan Vistana. We are meeting up with our Disney friends, that we met on the Magic in Europe last year. One of them is Ariel in MK.

No set plans, on which parks or when. My DD wants to go to Blizzard Beach and Magic Kingdom. I have Universal tickets, so possible there. I FedEx a big box, down to the Hotel, with our toiletries, so we can "carry on" our luggage. I am getting really excited, but need to pack.

Our air flights home seem to be oversold, so we are hoping to get bumped & receive airline tickets for next year.

Is everyone ready for Easter?

In the past few years we have flown into MCO late at night. I would always see those signs that point to the hyatt knowing how tired I was from a full week of work, getting ready for the vacation and traveling and then how we have to go and get the rental car and drive to the hotel...... Now this time we get to stay right there.

So I have only seen the signs and read up on it on tripadvisor.com. And it just makes it easier, which is a big deal at midnight.

I will keep watch at kayak.com for tix home. I hope to get a late afternoon flight back on Saturday on any airline really, whichever is the cheapest I guess.

PURTYPAT1- Enjoy your trip and travel safe. :)

I am ready for a break now, but we will have to wait for May for our trip. I will be anxious to hear about the waterparks. This is something we seem to have always skipped, but on our trip we plan to check out. We have enough PLUSs on old tix to really do both if we like.

Have fun, and the next time you to to orlando is for the cruise? YEAH!

And everyone Happy Spring and/or Easter! :flower:

GREAT VaVa now you can sit back & have fun planning all the small stuff, for the most important thing is out of the way. Check your airline every few weeks, to make sure they have not changed your times. If they do, you can always use it to your advantage (I always do) and reebook the time that suits your needs best, at no additional cost.

We're going to be waiting for the SWA flights, too. I've got a couple free flights that I'm gonna use.

I'm starting to look at the new bathing suits in catalogs and at stores so I can plan what to buy to put back for the cruise. I figure pickins will be slim (but I won't be:laughing: ) for bathing suits just prior to cruise time. Anyone else plotting out wardrobes?

Hello everyone,

A newbie here, to both Cruising and to DIS. My DH and I just booked this cruise and are looking forward to going on our very first DCL cruise.

Missy-Welcome to the group! Glad to have you on board! It's our first cruise, too!

Thanks for the Welcome, the cruise will be to celebrate our 20th Anniversary:dance3: We are both excited and I read everything I can get my hands on about cruising. Plus I am a planning nut, but I don't plan down to the last minute. Scrooge McDuck (DH) and I like to take it easy and wing it, especially when it is Disney related.

Hi Missy - And welcome! So excited for you & your DH! You'll find soooo much useful information here on this thread & the boards in general. This will me our 3rd cruise (3night & 4nightDCL b4) but our first 7 nighter! My DH still keeps saying he thinks it's too long...what a dork:rotfl2:

Missy- Welcome :cool1: ! Glad to hear you will joining the cruise early next year.

This will be DH's and my second cruise. Our first was the Western Feb 06.

Final note about our airfare- we ended up paying 155 each to come back, not 160. So two more drinks for us I guess. I thought I would check united.com for a roundtrip airfare. They started at 340 and up! And we paid a total of 280.00. I would have never thought to try to purchase the flights as one ways- thanks again PURTYPAT1 So my advice is to look at both options, not just round trip.

I just received the new passporter and have started reading it. I am sure I will have gone through most of it soon. So far so good. DH is still not pumped about the trip, well, not as much as I am.

Jodi- I would still like to do some research on the rainforest room. It sounds like something I would be interested in. Maybe in my passporter?

Have a good weekend. BTW- It snowed here last night! Ugh! Isn't winter over with yet?

Jodi- Yes it is our first cruise!:goodvibes I can't believe your husband thinks 7 nights will be too long! However, if he is reading this thread and sees our obsessive natures maybe he's just afraid of being stuck onboard with all of us.

Vava- I feel your pain from this long winter. We've just had unbelievably dreary, rainy days.

Missy Congrats on 20 yrs! September 2009 will be our 14th. The cruise is kind of an early anniversary present.

Anyone have an inkling as to when Southwest releases dates for Feb vacation time? AND, do they release the entire span of the week, or just up to the Sat. or something stupid. I want to use a flight credit that I have w/ them, but hear you can only book a RT, not 2 one ways. I could see booking the first half of the trip for my family when it comes out, waiting for the 2nd half to be released, then not being able to book the whole trip for me:rotfl: ...that's allright, they don't want me around anyway...always nagging:rotfl2:

Just read over this post, does it make any sense? Do you guys understand what I'm asking, 'cause I'm confused at this point

I'm all Goofied out:rotfl: Do you run any other races around the year? How 'bout you join our thread over on the WISH boards...we're on the Philadelphia marathon one. I'm toying with the idea of going down for the Expedition Everest Challenge in Sept. Why don't you sign up for the NYC 1/2 or Full & meet me there (if I get in).:rotfl2:

BTW, I won't be running on the cruise:rotfl:

Hi Everyone,

We're back. We had a great time. My family was picked by the "Disney Dream Team" and we were treated to VIP passes in AK.

Welcome CelticPrncss. Try to order a Disney Cruise passporter, or reserve one from your local libary. Lot's of helpful info.

I am proud to say, we are totally booked with our airfare :dance3:
Now, I can sit back and enjoy the rest of the planning.

Jodi, I happend to know for a fact that SW does have one way fares (I just booked my DS for next month SW one way) ;)

Hi Everyone,

Do any of you have a Disney Visa? I called the 800# last eve & received the 5x Disney points for gas groceries, & airline tickets for the month of April.

I signed up, & received a $100.00 Disney dollars (which is the limit for the month) for charging airline tickets.

For those of you that have a Disney Visa call. ;)

Patty-That's too cool about the VIP passes! Congratulations! I have the Disney Visa but didn't get that offer for April. I've had it before and done pretty well with rewards and paying it back.

Jodi-I'm going down for the Minnie in May and Tower of Terror in October. I had wanted to do Everest but my old roomie wanted to do ToT so I'll 'suffer' and do that one. I'm doing the Chicago Distance Classic in Aug. I'd LOVE to do NYC maybe next year! We'll have to try to meet during the Disney Marathon weekend!

I'm up for power walking on the cruise. I may jog around the deck and to try to get hammocks on CC!

disnutt & rubbergypsy, I called the 800# on the back of my card, & asked the operator to please sign me up for the 5x reward.

He had me on hold a few times, & told me it was a get go.

FYI, I never received any offers, I read about it, & figured I had nothing to lose by calling. I didn't know about the airfares, the operator told me.

Give them a call :thumbsup2 Good luck

I'll give the Disney Visa thing a shot. I've got to buy a ticket from Pittsburgh to LAX for work so I can put that on and get it paid off right away. I could just bump up our purchase of our tickets for our summer trip to Chicago by a couple weeks... See this is how they get you! :scared1:

Hi Everybody,

I am totally finished with most of the cruise details, keep in mind that we are a 12 GT and we are on a tight budget.

I booked our flights round trip nonstop airline tickets. 3 day rent a car. 2 nights at the Hyatt, insurance for the whole package, cruise staff tips & park tickets. I came up with a grand total of:

$1,880.85 per person

Please note, I have not included any tours, Palo or Brunch. We will also need 2 night dinners (before & after the cruise) & one breakfast.

I think I did good

Now I pray for good weather before our cruise :scared1:

Patty- Your budget sounds great! What's a 12 GT? We're trying to keep the cost of the 'extras' to a minimum, too. I'm planning on maximizing the ship activities. DH and I want to do a 'date' dinner at Palo and the brunch w/ the in-laws. Other than that I'm not sure what excursions or other activities I want to do. Well, I'd love to kayak/bike at CC w/ the kids.

Has anyone picked any excursions or tours they are going to do? Anyone know how to go about getting those scheduled cheaply? This is all so new!

Jodi

Patty - Wow, you are a planning FOOL!:lmao: You make me look like a slouch...:happytv: well, I am, actually... I've still gotta get airfare, rental car AND room for the night:confused3 :rotfl: ...I'll do it all this week

DisNutt - I haven't booked anything yet for the cruise...I'd love to do Palo w/ hubby, though. We've only done 2 exursions b4 (3 & 4 night DCLS in past)...renting snorkeling stuff @ Castaway Cay & parasailing @ the same. Both are worth it if you've never done it b4, snorkeling's real fun.

This time around I think we'll do snorkeling @ one of the islands, not sure which one or what's the best bet...now that all the kids are teens:scared1: , we'll make them go try the teen beach, as I'veheard the buffet on CC is better @ the adult sided beach...

We found that we just had so much fun on the ship eating & stuff:laughing: , that we didn't need much more entertainment!! But now this is 7 days, so...

OK, I realize i haven't helped you one bit...sorry:3dglasses How old are the kiddies, again?

Patty- Your budget sounds great! What's a 12 GT? We're trying to keep the cost of the 'extras' to a minimum, too!

When you book a GTY "Guarantee" rate you are agreeing to accept any cabin assigned at the given category or better. In other words, you are "filler." The GTY rates (usually lower than standard rates) are offered to fill the ship while maintaining flexibility in assigning cabins. You typically receive your room assignments just a few months ahead of sailing date.

If you are at all picky about which cabin you end up in, you would do better to book a standard rate in which case you can usually select a cabin from those still available at booking time.

In the last 4 cruises, I booked GTY cabins. 2 times we were upgraded to a 9 at a 12 cost.

In all honesty, I really don't care where our rooms are, since we are hardly in it.

Hope this helps

Jodi- My kids will be 13, 8, and 5 at the time of the cruise. I'd love to try parasailing! That would be so cool! I think the recreational eating on the ship may be my favorite activity!!

Jodi
04-10-2008, 08:33 AM
Patty - I'd love to try the GTY12 thingie, but we've got 2 parties that need to be next to eachother, so...perhaps one day.

Disnutt - Oooh - Oooh, you've got a 13 year old, too? Boy, girl? Do tell? I'll have 2 13 y/o boys with me (DS & DstepS). Do you plan on letting your teen do the teen hangout? I've heard some un-Disney-like things go on there:rotfl: . My son's such a weenie he'd run out of there the minute something went down (very naieve...at least I THINK he is:lmao: ).

The parasailing was great, albeit very short. They'll even let you strap the little ones on with you so they can go too, not sure about weight/age limit, though. Power eating, yes...my DH's entire reason for going on the cruise:laughing: !

Hay Jodi,

Each time I have cruised with Disney, it is usually always with another family. GTY. Each time Disney, has linked our reservations together, & we have always been next door together. (never been apart) Hope this helps.

My DD is 13, & I am a bit worried about the teen club. I sure hope they make the clubs fun for the kids.

Jodi- Well, there will be one 13 yo boy for Patty's and my 13 yo DDs! I guess that works out! My DD is very worried about the teen room. She will have just turned 13 and she's enjoying being a kid. She isn't ready for the more 'advanced' teen activities. However, my 8 yo DD would be happy to take her place in the Stack!:rotfl:

Maybe we can all take over the younger kid areas. I don't feel good about letting my DD hang out w/ kids much older than her.

Hi there Jodi and PurityPat
my ds16 was very reluctant about aloft on the wonder. He had an invitation when we arrived in our stateroom to check out the "411" at 10:30 that evening. He basically told me he was not interested in going but when the time came he said he was going to check it out. He returned around 1:30. He said he had a great time. Keep in mind he is 16 not 13. I never saw him again after dinner for the rest of the cruise. He said a lot of the things they do with the counselors was "girly" but he did a lot of sports things and he confessed to having sung karioke as the counselors kind of prodded you along. He had fun, he just would not be the first to admit it. He did however meet a 16 year old girl from Argentina (found out after we returned home), they now email everyday, oh and I saw her photo-yikes sure glad I did not know onboard because I would have been wondering if you know what I mean. So I would say his experience was great, he had no idea he would embark upon a"shipboard romance". He also said that there were a lot of age groups in the club and basically the older ones hung with their age group. He is also a very good kid and I trust him. So I am glad he had the experience.

Patty - Wish I had known about that GTY thing earlier...oh well, maybe next time. I fear we're that much closer to the cruise & it'd prolly cost more to book this way now. So you've got a 13 y/o daughter, eh?

Disnutt - You, too, with the 13 y/o daughter...

Well, like I said, my DS is shy, dorky & naieve...especially when it comes to girls!!:rotfl: He just turned 13 last month & has NO interest in going to the teen club. He's more content to stay down in the other club (Oceaneer's something?) where you can play video games & such. I believe you can go until you're 14. My stepson though, is a different story:rotfl: . He's much more, shall we say, educated? than my son. Not that he's a troublemaker or "active" in any way, he's just been exposed to a lot more. He'll get certain jokes in movies that'll go right over my son's head. I hope DS ventures up to the Stack @ least once, but the only thing that'd keep him there is video games, not girls. Who knows, maybe all that'll change in a year, but I just don't think that's his style.

RubberG - :scared1: Your DS had a LOVE BOAT encounter...wow, that's cool. I mean, I'd've loved that as a kid, right?:rotfl2: That's neat that they email eachother now.

RubberG- Long story here but keep an eye out for your DS! My DH met a girl at some leadership camp when he was in high school. He lived in WV she lived in WA. They wanted to get together.

Somehow they concocted a story to tell his parents (who are usually on the ball) that he was invited to another similar conference in guess where? Seattle! He and the girl made all these arrangements and he flew to Seattle his parents none the wiser. :sad2:

The only reason they caught him was that his hometown was flooded that week and they tried to call him (before cell phones remember) and tell him they were evacuating their home. When he wasn't registered where he should be the lightbulbs went off and they contacted the girl's family. Together the families rounded the kids up before any 'funny business' could occur. The girl was supposed to meet him in Seattle somehow that next day.

My MIL still gets furious when we talk about it!:headache: I LOVE bringing it up just to see her go off! Maybe I'll do it on the cruise so you guys can watch!:rotfl: Can you imagine having your home flood out and finding out your trusted son has lied to you in such a big way? DH is now very contrite and hates talking about it. That's why I enjoy it so much!:rotfl2:

Jodi- My 12 yo DD has that same reaction. She won't even walk past the undies section in Target because, "Someone might see me and think I'm buying something!" However, my 8 yo DD can't wait to go and buy out Victoria's Secret!

I also have a credit with Delta so I was checking their fares and I guess with it being President's Week, they're horrible. Hi lauritagoddess,

Welcome

We are from Northern Jersey.

We booked our fare, non stop leaving EWR & coming home LGA. We spent $300.00 RT this year which is high. We usually spend in the ball park of $225.00 for President's Week to MCO. If you have credit with Delta you might want to book one ways, to use your Delta.

I will be traveling with my DD who is 13. Are you leaving 2/13 or the day of? Also, are you coming home 2/21 or 2/22?

Let us know if you need any help.

We booked airfare and got a great deal. We will be on United through DC on the friday before and return on the saturday the cruise returns. We booked one-way tickets for a total of 280.00 pp. I took the advice from PURTYPAT1 and it worked out great this way. I was curious and looked at the same flights in a round trip ticket and they started at 380.00.

Hi Laura!
I think it'll be a while...Good luck whatever you decide to do! Will you fly out of LI, JFK or LGA?

We usually fly out of JFK, we're only about 15 minutes from the airport, although if I could get a good deal from LGA I would take that.

Wow, those are excellent prices. We're leaving on 2/13 and coming home on 2/21. What airline are you flying on?

That's not a bad idea, especially since I do have a credit on Delta that I could apply for one of the fares one way, and then I'm not wed to them for the other flights.

I'm going to start trawling the fares. We're going on a short trip to Minneapolis in a week and a half and I drove myself crazy trying to find the best fare because it kept zigzagging up and down. I finally booked for about $243 rt and then the next week it dropped to $182rt. That's how I got the credit with Delta, but I feel like you never know what's going to happen with the fares.

Laura,

There are 2 flight leaving LGA 2/13/09 with AA for $144.00(one way non stop)

We are leaving from EWR Continetal, & coming home to LGA AA both non stop :thumbsup2

Some of us are staying at the airport Hyatt hotel, for the night. There was a coupon for $141.00

i see this morning that united has a fight out of rochester on 2/12, we are planning on leaving that day. It is 100.00 each making it 300.00 total for the trip out, I hesitate to take it because I am so spoiled by non stop flights. I also worry in the winter that making connections could be problematic. Airtran is my carrier of choice but their fares will not be out for Feb for awhile. This is however a great price.

What is the connecting city?

We try to stay away from any NYC or PHL connections. DH and I will be on United on the 13th through DC. When we have flown in the past between Feb-March we have had good luck with more southern connections like DC and Atlanta (Delta). 100.00 each seems like a good deal.....

good luck!

We're going to be staying at the Hyatt too. Are you taking the DCL coach?

I checked out the flights on AA. I'm definitely considering the LGA to MCO flight at $144. Unfortunately the flights back don't work out. It shows the 12:40pm flight as unavailable, and the other flights are at 7:55am and 8:45pm and the 8:45pm flight is $204. The one direct flight to JFK on 2/21 is at 12:10pm and is $244. I wish JetBlue would come out with their flights.

Hard call, because you are leaving on the 12th I myself, would probably grab it. It is going to be few & far finding $100.00 fares for Presidents week. If there is likely a storm, you could leave the night before (I have done this with an airline, free of charge) or if not, & there is a storm, you still have 2 days to play with to get down there. You might want to go to "Access America & get insurance. I always worry about traveling in Feburary. Where is your connection?

We will also be staying at the Hyatt the night before. We decided to rent a car with Avis. I had enough points on my chase card to get gift cards to make the trip virtually free (just taxes etc.) and we like the ability to stop and pick up anything we might have left at home.

On our first cruise, I was ever so thankful we did this. DH forgot ALL of his contacts at home. He only had his glasses which were not even his current prescription. We were thankful he sees someone at Lens Crafters since they were a national chain, so at 8:30 am we were scrambling to find the closest one. We found one in hopes to just pick up his prescription, but the script had expired. He needed a new eye exam !!!!! :scared1: They were able to squeeze us in and we were headed to the port around noon.

I had original plans of lounging around, getting to port early, you know, a nice relaxing morning. It was all very stressful.

So, we will double check the contacts before we go, but will have the rental car in case of any last minute items or emergency doctors appointments.

I would have been completely panicking if that had happened to me. Thank goodness your DH was able to get the new script and lenses.

I booked the DCL coach. The last time I took the coach but we were staying a Caribbean Beach and we didn't leave there until almost 12:45. By the time we checked in and were onboard we barely had time to eat lunch before it was time for the drill. My TA said that the coach leaves at 9:00am from the Hyatt which sounds much better to me.

Welcome CelticPrncss. Try to order a Disney Cruise passporter, or reserve one from your local libary. Lot's of helpful info.

Oh I already have my DCL Passporter, I am a big fan of that Guide, don't know how I ever did Disney without it before:confused3

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone :goodvibes

I have been away from the boards for a while, been a busy gal, between work ( a big inspection coming up) and home (getting ready for the in-laws to come for a visit) I need a vacation.

I was able to watch the Magic sail out to sea last week on the webcam, Scrooge also watched for a bit. Soon that will be all of us sailing out to sea:banana: :cheer2: :cool1:

FYI-
I just saw on the news that United and USairways will be charging 10 dollars extra for an aisle or window seat.

So to save money, you would have to put a family behind one another in the middle seat?

I know jetblue increased their prices to $10 for the seats with the most room in the front, but you could choose to sit in the back.

Argh. So if you want to go usair or united, you'll save if you book before the summer. Well, that is if you do not want to all fly in middle seats.

I wouldn't pay the extra fee for JetBlue for the flights between NYC and Orlando, but I did actually pay the extra fee, which was $20 for each of us, for our flights back from Oakland in June. It's a difference of seat pitch of 34 inches and 38 inches. For a flight that's almost 6 hours with a child whose known to want to try and kick seatbacks, it seemed worth the extra $40.

My son's such a weenie he'd run out of there the minute something went down (very naieve...at least I THINK he is:lmao: ).

Hi! We just booked and I thought I would read up on who else is going.

For this vacation, it will be Me, Jodi (I see there is another Jodi on the board! YEA!!!) and my DH Mitch. We are also bringing our 2 kids - thankfully they are in a separate room!

My DS is 13. I know he would like to meet others his own age. He is not much for hanging out at the kids clubs and I don't know if he is ready for the teen club.

I also have a daughter who will be 11 when we sail. She loves soccer! If any kidos are up for a game let me know!

I am very excited and can't wait until our trip.

Happy planning everyone!

Welcome, Jodi - So nice to see another one...AND you spell your name right :lmao: . I'm glad you'll be joining us in Feb., it's a great bunch here on this thread, I've learned so much!! My 2 13 y/o boys walked out of the kids club when they were 11 the first time we cruised :rotfl2: . But last time we went they had the Oceaneer's club open where you could come & go...and of course there were video games there!! That was the big attraction!! Is your son into computers & all that techno stuff?

Hi everyone!!! We should all think about getting the kids "together" in cyberworld so they can get the "know" eachother beforehand. Not that I would know how to do that, but :rotfl: . Remeber, I'm technically challenged!!:scared1:

Yes, we are doing the cruise again. We just loved it!

We like to fly at night. So, we got into Orlando on Friday morning and to the Disney bus to Port Orleans Riverside. We spent that day at MK. The next morning we hired a town car to take us to the port. We rented a car and went to Kennedy Space Center then the airport. The rental was MUCH cheeper than the Disney bus or town car service.

This time I think we will skip the Disney parks and fly during the day on Friday. I plan to get a cheep hotel and rent a car. To me it is the most economical way.

Jodi- (Gotta love that name) My son also loved the Oceaneer's club and is hooked on computer games. We will have to try to arrange a "Cyber" play date for them. (Ok, they are 13 and don't go on play dates anymore but is sounds so cute.) Any ideas on how?

UMM..., I think it's Jo-dye?:lmao:

Jodijo - Playdate :cutie: , that is such a cute word!! I have NO idea how we'd arrange a cyber-deal? The kids could probably tell us  . There are other 13 y/o's on our little thread here going as well....girls:scared1: .:lmao: Which my DS is afraid of...perhaps if they ALL "met" b4 hand it wouldn't be so scary?:confused3 And perhaps if they all felt comfortable with eachother (I know, i know, I'm really reaching here ;) ) they'd go into the teen club as a group? You know, strength in numbers?? Otherwise my DS will stay clear of that place, I'm sure. Well, unless there are cool video games  .

My son wont go to the teen club alone! It would be great if they went together. If not, I know that he would love to have some kids to hang out with in the Oceaneer's club. He is kind of shy and wont initiate conversation. I think that is why he did not like the kids club. He felt pressured to play with other kids he didn't know. Meeting ahead of time would make him more comfortable.

So, I will talk to my son and see if there is an online game that they can meet up in and play together.

My (by then 13 yo) DD swears she's not going into the teen section. Unless this group thing catches on it will be the Oceaneer Club which really doesn't bother me a bit. I like them being a little scared.

However, my 8 yo DD is definitely ready! She just made cheerleader :cheer2: and now thinks she's hot stuff. How did they come out so differently?:confused3

It just goes to show ya...they're not our fault!!:lmao:

Jodijo - My son plays a few different games on-line...let me know which one YOURS plays  ...:confused3 I'm SO clueless!!

Disney Cruise Line Fuel Surcharge Decision

Due to continually rising fuel prices, Disney Cruise Line® is implementing a fuel surcharge. :scared1:

The surcharge* is $8 per person, per day for the first two Guests in a stateroom and $3 per day for all other Guests. It is effective for new bookings only made on or after May 28, 2008. Additionally, the surcharge will be capped at $112 each for the first and second Guests in a stateroom and $42 each for all other Guests in the stateroom.

Travel Agents should implement additional procedures to ensure that they disclose the exact amount of the applicable fuel surcharge to Clients before they make a decision to book a Disney Cruise Line vacation.

At least those of us who've already made the bookings shouldn't be affected by this. I'm surprised they held out as long as they did when the other lines were adding surcharges months ago. And at least they didn't try and pull the nonsense that RCI and Carnival did with trying to make the charges retro.

We're still onboard. We're waiting for SWA to open up the dates. I've got at least 2 tix and may end up w/ another one because I use my SWA card for mandatory work travel.

Vavalynn-You must do a report on Toy Story and Jiko! Boma has been my favorite restaurant for some time now. I finally looked at Jiko's menu and realized I would probably love that, too! I was at the PPP when I went for the Minnie Marathon and had a great time. Loved the fireworks!

Hey disnutt--

I see you have some 1/2 marathon "stickers"...

I started training a couple weeks ago to do a 1/2 marathon. I'm only at about 2 miles a day right now, but I think I'll be ready in some months. I was going to do the DL 1/2 marathon at the end of August, but have a schedule conflict (and also, I must admit I'm a bit afraid of the heat).

Would love to hear more about your marathons!

Welcome Jen ;)

I was on the 11 day Med cruise. When did you go?

Gosh everyone, I can't believe you guys are all runners. :confused3 I power walk 15 minutes a mile. Maybe I should take up running.

vavalynn2, we had the best time at the "princess pirate party" Just remember, even though they tell you it starts at 7pm they will let you in at 4pm. I really hope next Feb there will be a PP party, before the cruise or after.

Thanks for the welcome!

Went on the 10-day Med cruise, June 6, if my memory serves me. Best vacation of my life.

And it would be quite a stretch to label me "runner." I'm still at the waddling stage, aspiring to get to the point when I can finish a 1/2 marathon.

And I agree that a PP party before the cruise would be great. Right now I have three days booked at AKV before the cruise, which I'll switch over to Boardwalk or Beach Club in a few months.

Ooh, a little activity going, that's what I like to see!! :goodvibes

Patty - Ooohh, I never even thought of a P&P b4 the cruise!!!! I must consider this, as I really want to check it out! Powerwalking is great exercise, especially @ the pace you are going! I find it easier to run than walk, walking hurts my legs too much  Go figure. Instead of running, perhaps just build up the amount of time you walk?? A lot of people run/walk 1/2 marathons & marathons, ya know!!

Jen - Good for you & your aspirations for a 1/2 marathon, read the above :rotfl: . If you don't have the book "Marathoning for Mortals" run out NOW & get it!! ;) . Great information, no doubt!! I've been wanting to do the DL 1/2 as well, but it's too dang expensive to get out there this year :confused3 .

VaVa -So jealous you're going to the World in a week!! :woohoo: Have a great time & looking forward to a report on the Toy Story ride. Can you believe I never tried Jiko OR Boma?? (can you say loooooser?):rolleyes1 . I also was hoping for more on the DCL on those shows, oh well.

Kiena - I am also waiting for SW to open up, but just in case, I reserved a rental car for the Thurs. b4 :headache: . Hopefully the fares won't be too outrageous!! Uh, hello, waiting for a race report on the Minnie popcorn:: , did you have fun?? Was it too hot? .

Jodi - :yay: HI!

Hey, did you guys read that Disney Visa lifted the $750 cap on points??:dance3:

I saw this thread about airtran

AA has already changed my flight for coming home, I had a 12:20pm flight on Sunday 2/22/09 Now, they only have 2 flights, one at 7:30am or 5:30pm. I would rather sleep late, so 5:30 works. I called the "Airport Hyatt" where we will be staying & asked them, after Sunday's check out, could, we leave them our luggage & stay at there pool for the day. They said yes, & there would be a room for us to change.(free of charge)We are am hoping for good weather, so we can swim & relax for the day.

Morning all! Finally seeing sun here in Pittsburgh!

Patty-That power walking hurts! I took a race walking clinic one week a couple years ago given by an Olympic walker. She could walk faster than I could run! My shin muscles hurt sooooo bad! Those muscles aren't really used in running. Ouch!

Jen- Good luck on the half training! I use a Jeff Galloway run/walk program and find it helps me cover longer distances more comfortably.

Jodi- Quick Minnie report- Weather was warmer than I was used to but it wasn't a factor because my friend who was supposed to be keeping our pace with her Garmin kept slowing down. She's about 10 yrs younger than me and I think she thought I might die or something if I ran faster.:confused3 Because of this I asked for and received a sale priced Garmin 305 for Mother's Day. My pace will be my own responsibility from now on! We did have a great run and fun talking. Finished in 1:44:14 chip time which isn't too bad but I was hoping to be closer to 1:35 for this run. For my future running health I'm currently doing a program at Univ of Pitt Medical Center for athletes over 40. I get an orthopedic medical check, body fat measurement (that was scary!), sports nutritionist and sports psychologist appointments. The best part is a running evaluation and work out program designed for me. I met w/ the trainer for the second time yesterday and now my legs are aching from the seemingly wimpy exercises he had me do yesterday. They seem safe but they target specific running muscles and now I'm hurting!:scared1: In six months I get evaluated again to check on my improvements. Hoping this will help me w/ Goofy!

Take care everyone!

Kiena - LOVE the race report, sounds like Minnie was hot, hot, hot (sorta like marathon morning this past Jan. UGH). That sounds like an awesome thing you've gotten yourself into over @ UPitt, although I don't think I'd let them do the BMI thingie :scared1: . :lmao: I wish I could find someone to study ME :rotfl: . What's next up on your running schedule? I'm still waiting to find out if I got into the NYC 1/2 marathon. BTW, I have the Garmin 305 & love it.

Ooops, sorry to hijack the thread guys!! I'm getting stoked for the cruise, but jonesing for SW to release the dates :headache: .

Hello to ALL!! Have a great loooong weekend!

Do you mean me? I can't believe I've impressed anyone but I did have a great time! I was in FL from Thursday through Sunday night. We visited each park except for the Studios. Got to go to the Pirate & Princess Party which was great!

Jodi- The BMI thing was motivating. The last time I had one done was in college at age 18. I thought I had too much fat then!:rotfl: 3 kids and 25 lbs later I think I'm doing pretty good even w/ twice the fat! I'm really trying to follow the nutritionist's recommendation. It's kind of sad that she emphasized a loss of 1 lb or less per week. I'm wanting results NOW. However, if I am able to stick with it I'll be feeling pretty good come cruise time!!!!

Still waiting on SW, too!:sad2:

Hi Everyone,

8 more months to go. I've been reading & loving all of the live reports WB repo. If anyone wants to read, let me know, & I will post the links

I checked the DC website last night, & they are not showing Cat 12 or 11 on our date. Strange, can it be sold out this early? They are not offering early dinner seating either.

Well I am off to Vegas for a few days for a mini high school reuion with the girls.

Wish me luck lol

Looks like we got our Cat 11 just in time :) Though we were waitlisted for early dinner seating, so we'll see if we end up getting it.

February still feels like a long time away. I sure wish I were going on one of those Mexican Riviera or Eastern Panama cruises. But I'll have to wait just some 200 more days. :hyper:

DH and I are back and coming down from our Disney "high" :goodvibes

The trip was great. We were granted a wish.   We arrived at HS early and while waiting in line were asked if we were going to ride ToT or RnR. We said, yeah... Not knowing where this was going...

We were the first family of the day- which meant we were the first family in the park. They put us in the VIP lounge while we waited for the park to open. We were then the"stars" of the opening of the park and in a skit. They then drove us to ToT.:moped: We were the first to ride ToT- they even had us ride ToT by ourselves! They bought us the pic, I love my face of terror:scared1: and DH's laughing face. And then were given fast passes.

What a great day!

We rode Toy Story Midway Mania 3xs. The second time it shut down 2/3rds of the way through. That ride was awesome. Way better than Buzz at MK. Much different. Everyone who rode it seemed to have a great time.

Other tidbits- we tried a Disney waterpark for the first time-TL and had a great time. But this made us miss our reservation @ Jiko :(
PnP was a lot of fun. Next to no wait times on any rides at all.

We pricelined this trip for the hotel at stayed at the Gaylord. Nice property, but beyond huge! From the parking lot to the room was a VERY long walk!! I am not sure we would stay there again even with a good deal.

So next trip to Orlando is the cruise!!

We also booked a cat 11. Maybe an upgrade down the road??

Hope all are well and Patty is winning big :dance3: !!

WOW, VaVa!! Sounds like you had an awesome trip! Good for you!! :cool1: .

Um, am I the only one who hasn't booked a room for the night b4 the cruise yet?? :lmao:

Please you DCL gurus, refresh my memory, for a party of 5, should I be booking one of those suite rooms out near the port? I remember calling the hotel @ MCO once & asking if they could bring a roll away in & they said only 4 people per room b/c of fire codes. I'm assuming that means HomeSuites (or whatever it is :rotfl: ) is my only option?

Patty, I hope you came home richer than when you left!!:thumbsup2

Um, am I the only one who hasn't booked a room for the night b4 the cruise yet?? :lmao:

No! It must be a Jodi thing. I still need to book a room as well.

I guess I was waiting until I booked the flight. However, I don't think Southwest will have their Feb. prices out until August. I think that is too late to book a room. I guess I need to stop procrastinating. (Otherwise, we will be sleeping on the streets.)

Now I feel a bit better. I went ahead & booked the Country Inn Suites for $173 total for the Friday night. Not bad. Plus it comes with a cheesy free breakfast! :rotfl2: .

All that's left is the flight!:scared1:

Are any of you guys planning to do any of the excursions? I can't decide if we will or not. Usually we rent snorkeling stuff @ Castaway Cay, but enough's enough with that. Perhaps we'll snorkel @ one of the islands?? Since everyone enjoys this activity.

vavalynn2
06-05-2008, 07:28 PM
Jodi- you must be glad to have the hotel out of the way. It will be nice to be able to stay right near the port.

As far as excursions go, I read up a while ago on two ideas:
St. Maarten- There is a beach club (chairs, umbrellas etc) place called Chez Leandra at Bikini beach. It does not look like it costs much more than a cab ride and the beach club. I estimated between 30-50.00 with lunch for the two of us. From the posts I read, everyone seems to like it in that area and it is ways from the nude beaches.

St. Thomas- Sonny Liston's tour certainly looks interesting. There are good reviews all over the place for that one. sonnylistontours.com

I do know from our previous cruise that I will be hesitant to choose an excursion that calls for a lot of travel time. We wasted so much time at Grand Cayman getting to Rum point(the water was rough and took a long time to cross on a very bouncy boat), we did not have a lot of time there. While snorkling at St. John's interests me, we do not want to spend a lot of time getting there.

I am not sure we will do these excursions but we have some time to figure it out. :)

Hi to everyone! We're done w/ school here. The kids are relieved. It just means we're one season closer to our cruise!

Jodi- I got all excited when I read your post because I thought that Country Inn had a CHEESE-y breakfast buffet!

Vava-How cool to be family of the day!:worship: I can't wait to ride Toy Story in Oct!

I can't decide about the excursions. We've got multiple generations and differing fitness levels. I have tried to engage the grandparents in choosing activities but they don't follow through on reading the books or even listening to the options. I'm just about ready to pick the most active activities and drag their tushes around until they drop. :rolleyes1

Speaking of tushes... maybe I'll just arrange to send the in-laws to the nude beach!:lmao:

Take care!

hi all, been reading all the posts. I too have yet to book airfare, for some strange reason the rochester-orlando flights on airtran have not been discounted, although buffalo-orlando were going pretty cheap. I am hesitant to book out of buffalo because of weather in February, I do not want to drive there and leave my car for that length of time. I look at least two times a day for fares. Cannot wait to get that over with.

We are off to the world on June 30th. We will be there until July 8. We are excited about the Toy Story Mania ride. It will surely be hotter than the sun when we go with the usual daytime thunderstorm. We always go 4th of July week and then Pres week. Trying to get a ton of stuff done before the trip.

They are calling for temps in the 90's tomorrow, feels just like Disneyworld

Do not like to pull my son out of school, he will be a senior next year, it's a lot easier to do that when they are younger. I use tour guide mike and his touring plans are spot on, also with being a dvc member I know I will always be returning so there is no need to doing the parks commando style. Fourth of July week is great, I love the hot, and we do dinner at Ohana so we watch the fireworks from the restaurant, they pipe in the music, it is very nice, no way I am there with those crowds!!! Also after the fireworks the people leave the park by droves!!! then we sneak in and walk on most everything, it really empties out.
I found 79 dollar airfare nov22-24 so I have never seen the wdw at Christmas so just my daughter and I are doing that short little trip. My son will be going with his dad (my ex who has never been) nov 23-26. So it will be a girls trip!!

OK guys, bare with me b/c I had a thought this morning :scared1: . I was thinking about using DVC points for 2 studios @ OKW on Fri. the 13th (40 points) & then paying for the DCL shuttle for 5 people ($350), instead of getting the rental car each way & dealing with shuttles back & forth to the hotel & Avis location. THAT total is $110 for the car (plus gas) & $175 for hotel. I realize I'm paying more to take to DCL shuttle by $70 or so, but I've heard that rental cars & such can be a pain in the gooly. And of course there's 40 DVC points that I'm burning up, but....

So what do you guys think??

Jodi- Will you have any time to enjoy OKW before the cruise or is it just going to be a place to camp out? If you can take advantage of the resort/parks I believe it would be worth it. (I would hesitate to spend my beloved:cloud9: DVC points just for a hotel room.) The ease of the shuttle can't be beat so you are paying for someone else to do the dirty work. Either way you go you can't lose!

we just booked a 3 night cruise for our tenth wedding anniversary, last minute and all but airfare was $89 non stop each way so that was a deal, had to book a cat 6 because only 8, 6, 5, and 4 left on the 9/18-9/21 dates. i really need to be midship, did the 4 night and we had a sideways cabin very forward deck 6, and that was the first time i got queasy for the first 24 hours, not fun. almost cancelled our atlantis shore excursion, but felt better once the day started. I cannot believe the $$ we put into this disney experience!!!
As for the points used for weekends, I have done it painstakingly, if I can book with dvc discount or ap that sometimes is better. por and pofq have cruise pickup also. Perhaps a decent ap rate will come out, although it is pres week so who knows.
For this new sept cruise we are coming in on wed eve and staying at ssr and one night and on the end on the 21st after the cruise we are booked akv studio savanah view, 11 points. You could give an akv value studio a shot, but we are not seven months out yet. those go pretty cheap.
