Hello, my name is Kathryn and I'm a Disney Magic addict.

That says it all. We're currently booked at WDW for this week but DD is really pressuring me to make it a cruise and I'm seriously tempted. I thought I'd check out this thread to see who's sailing and have already identified one name from the same week last year. If we do this, it will be me and my DD who will turn 18 the week before we cruise.

I'm going to try to read thru at least some of this threat...35 pages or so....and catch up with all of you.

Hello Kathryn,

I remember reading your threads from last Feb. I got some great tips from you all.

I hope you join us!!!!

COOL! More people  .
Kathryn, I hope you join us, as my 17 y/o step-daughter is hoping to meet someone before we get on the cruise! Perhaps she can meet up w/ your DD somewhere along the line :flower3:

Hi Jody:

That would be great. We usually try to meet someone on-line before DD sails. It just adds to the fun. We're going to decide for sure next week....but I sort of think we'll be doing the cruise. I'm just having trouble finding time for a sane, rational talk with my daughter this week between high school play, college final, etc. She's a high school senior but taking one class at a local university. I can't wait till this semester is over! No college courses next semester because it would screw up my cruising! Hee hee.

Wow, it IS a small world. I live in Middletown now, but grew up in New Canaan. Was a paramedic for a long while in Fairfield/Bridgeport.

I went to school in New Haven many moons ago.

We had a great week at Disney - came home with a stomach bug [note to self - it never pays to plan a flight so late you can't just stay in your room if you need to until pickup - ugh] for all - lovely

But now it's time to get through the holidays and then get ready in earnest - I have never done a disney cruise - I'm counting on you folks to help me figure out what the heck I need to bring and do LOL!

Hi, everyone! My DH and I just booked this cruise. It will be our 2nd wedding anniversary on 2/17/09, hopefully a very magical Valentine's day and anniversary. It's been a tough year :sad1: and I am really looking forward to a nice relaxing trip. We took our honeymoon on the Feb 23 2007 Western. It was fun because everyone always knew who we were after we won the dating game. I have done the Western twice, but this will be my first Eastern, lots of planning to do. I feel like I am way behind, but have time to plan. I am a Radio Disney Cast member. It will be good to be back on the boat.:)

Hi Chrissyt27,

Welcome, what a nice story!!!! It must have been a great honeymoon.

Did you get married in DW?

chrissyt27
12-27-2008, 10:11 PM
No we were married at home in the middle of a blizzard. the inlaws still won't let me live down that I made them come to the big city for our wedding. We had 16 inches of snow the week before.
But DH and I just wanted to get married and I was a happy bride.:bride:

We had a great time on the boat. I wore my bridal ears the first day and then with the dating game everyone spoke to us. we had a great time. We just got back from WDW, I love Disney at Christmas. I am looking forward to our cruise. I am hoping to get a bruch reservation. As a cast member I have to wait and book on the boat and wait for a cancelletion. We lucked out last time. I would also love to do tea, but we will see.

Hi,

We just signed up today and are wondering if anyone has a DS between 7 and 10 who loves Nintendo DS and wants to sit with us. It will be grandmother, daughter and grandson who is 7 1/2. He's the one who loves the DS. :)

This will be our 6th. Disney cruise.

WELCOME ABOARD, CHRISSY & PEGGY.

I love the holidays, but I also love for them to be over:lmao: then I can get my house back in order and start packing for the cruise!!

Most of the clothes have been in bins since last June! I need to do a last minute "fashion show" with the girls (to make sure the clothes fit them) and revise my packing list.
Thanks to Purtypat1 for the link to the packing list. (I love to compare lists.)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY...BE SAFE!

Hi everyone!

I have been lurking for daaaayyyyss, trying t get through the 36+ pages of this thread before I posted anything. I have given up trying to read it all. :rotfl2: I have now skipped aHEAd to the last several pages. ;)

Anywhooo--we are cruising Feb. 14th! Whoo-hoo! This is our second 7 day, and it will be me, DH, and DSons ages 14, 12 and 22 months. All of us were on the last cruise, just the littlest one was still in utero. And we all loved it! The big boys just found out we are going on Christmas Day. They are psyched!

Two (almost) teen-aged boys, more freedom then they get at home, and FREE food??? Are you kidding me? They have been salivating reading the menus in the 2008 PP guide to DCL since Christmas! :cool1:

Our last time on the Magic was in Oct. 2006. We loved it, but we are really looking forward to getting out of snowy northern MN in the middle of the winter.

OK, now for questions:
Anyone have experience with Flounder's Reef Nursery? As of now, we have our 10 hours (!) of nursery time booked, but does anyone have past experience with this? I know they will do a great job (they are DISNEY!), but once we get on board, how many more hours can we realistically book? Or is it hard to get more time in there?

Secondly, does anyone know about adding more people to our cabins? We have 2 cat. 9's for the 5 of us, but are thinking of asking my husband's mom & dad to join us. Any idea what's involved? I am thinking financially it would not be a big deal, as we are already paying big bucks for the kids to cruise as we pay adult fares for the 1st and 2nd passengers in the cabins no matter who they are.

OK, that's it for now. Thanks for your help, oh wise Disney planning fanatics!

Wachsdds

We have 4 kids with us in adjoining cabins and did invite my parents to join us!
My parents are sharing the adjoining room with my older sons DS(9 & 6). In my room will be DW and the little ones(DS3 & DD 21months at cruise time). We also have my father in law coming along in his own room. We are all looking forward to a great cruise

As for Flounder's, we have used the nursery for the past 5 cruises with DCL and have never had any problems. The kids always seem to love it and the staff is fantastic. We always book the 10 hours. After that it seems to be based on availability while on the ship.

As for adding the parents to the cabin. It was pretty easy also. The first two people in the cabin are always charged at adult rates while the third and fourth passengers are at age appropriate. When we added my parents to our reservation they wanted to pay the adult rated instead of taking the decreased rate of our kids that are younger:worship: ! Disney makes it easy, just give them a call!

This sounds fun, but I am not sure I will find a "fish extender between now and then. And the 2nd problem is as a cast memebr I dont think I will find out our cabin number till we check in. I paid for a 12, and that's what we will most lilkley get. Will that be a issue? I work at Radio Disney had have access to cute Disney tattoos and stickers from work. Do you think my lack of cabin number will be an issue?

First, fish extenders are NOT required. It is just an extra to have IF you want, but not needed. I don't have one and am not sure that I'm going to get around to making one before the cruise and I'm in the gift exchange!

I think we can work out the no cabin until embarcation issue, if we have a DIS meet and I give out the cabin numbers then. That's what I did when we were on the Med cruise. We met on the early afternoon of Day 2 at sea and I got cabin numbers then from people who were just assigned or changed. So I think it could work. Is everyone up for a DISMEET on Day 2? We do have a sea day for Day 2 don't we??

We would be up for a meet, we have no kids, but will be fun to meet everyone. I can start collecting tattoos, they are from the past newer Disney movies. I can bring them that day, or it may be more fun to deliver them. whichever. I have a stack on my desk as we speak.:woohoo:

Hey--count us in! As long as the little gifties are SMALL, I am game. As I said before, I am already having nightmares about trying to pack for 5 people for 12 days in 4 suitcases!!! :scared1:

We have 2 cabins on deck 2 (darn category 9's, only on decks 1 &2!) for me, DH, and DS (14), DS (12), and DS (22 mo.).

I would love for the older boys to meet some other guys about their ages. The 14 y.o. is into classic rock and playing guitar 22 hours a day; they are both into skiing (downhill), video games and playing "Warhammer" (a role playing board game). They are really nice boys (I am their mother, yes, but they really are!); anybody interested in a Teen Thread? Or would PM-ing be better? I do not know what is the best way to go about this.

Thanks! I think I will make a simple, simple FE using scrapbook supplies, or look at Target in the dollar section for a cute bucket-y thing to use.

Getting EXCITED!

Tell your DH mandatory mickey ears and lime green shirts for him -- for the whole cruise -- just because his wife agreed to show up at the DIS meet! :scared1:

Last cruise I took, I unfortunately didn't get the chance to spend a lot of time with other DISers, as I was chasing around my 2 year old trying to keep him out of trouble and out of the water. But it was still so nice to have familiar faces on the cruise. And I'm hoping I'll have more time to chat and be somewhat social on this cruise - now that both of my kids are old enough for the clubs.

So I'm thinking maybe 11am or so on Day 2. How does that sound? The good thing about the Quiet Cove is that there won't be any scheduled activities there. But bad thing is no kids.

I'm looking for some input here on where to meet... Anyone??

Can it be after brunch times. We don't have a reservation yet, but hope to get in last minute. Maybe before lunch or at lunch. A few years ago, a group I met up with all met in Parrot Cay that first day. Or topsiders has outdoor space.
But I don't know, where ever, just don't want to miss brunch if we can get in.

Oh, and I have a question for SNOW WHAT: Did you figure out anything to do for your daughter's birthday on the cruise? I keep telling my DS3 that we're going on the cruise when his birthday comes, but I have no idea what can actually be done, if anything, on the cruise. He won't actually turn 4 until Feb 24, but it would be great if we could do something on the ship, as I'm not sure I'm going to have much energy to pull together much of anything on Feb 24.

Do I have the only DD who will be 14, Is there any more 14 year old girls? She loves the guitar, rock & video games.

Ohhhh noooooo--not a girl who loves the guitar! My DS is too young for an onboard romance! OR offboard romance. EVER! :rotfl2: He is, oh what is the line from "A Christmas Story"..."perpetually 3 years old." Or something like that. Yes, DS has to shave (once or twice a month!) and is taller than me, but he is still a 3 year old. My sweet 3 year old.

oh, and do not show this post to anyone under the age of 25. Pinky swear?

Or does anyone know how we could get it in that position? Or, seriously, any other suggestions? Buehler? Buehler? My boys are 14, 12 & 22 mo. Just a couple of questions?? Is the gift exchange per cabin or per family?
For those families that have 2 cabins (with children in the second one) are they giving gifts from each cabin?

He won't actually turn 4 until Feb 24, but it would be great if we could do something on the ship, as I'm not sure I'm going to have much energy to pull together much of anything on Feb 24.

I have not planned to do anything, but it might be fun. You're right about getting the energy to do anything about it. We are celebrating another birthday on board...my husband's cousin's wife's birthday is Feb 14th. (wow that is a mouthful!)

Great question!

Here's what I was thinking...

FOR GIVING: Gifts come from each DIS family. So if a family has 2 or 3 cabins, still just one gift per family. If DIS family has a second or third cabin with friend/family member who also wants to give gifts, that's great, but it is NOT required.

FOR GETTING: Gifts go to each cabin. So if a family has 2 or 3 cabins, they get 2 or 3 gifts.

Questions...

What if I only have only one cabin? Do I need to get two or three gifts for people who have more than one cabin? This means I'm giving more than I'm getting.

I don't know anyway around this. I only have one cabin and I'm totally OK with getting more gifts than I'm getting. It gets really tricky to require multiple gifts from families with more than one cabin. Keep in mind, gifts should be small and inexpensive (it's the thought and creativity that counts!), so hopefully this won't be an undue burden on anyone.

If people have ideas on other ways to do this, let me know. But this is my take on the simplest way to do it.

I have a suggestion (if you don't mind).
When it comes time to PM grizbuzz with your cabin numbers, you should indicate which of your cabins are giving gifts. (All of the cabins are getting!). We don't want to be dissapointed when a cabin is listed to give a gift on a certain day and they are not. (because they are part of a family that already gave a gift).

PS...I have my gifts!!!

PS...I have my gifts!!!

I wasn't planning on handing out a master list of who's giving which day. I was planning to hand out a card at the DISMEET to each family/group, with the list of cabins to deliver gifts to and the date to give your gifts. And if you can't come to the DISMEET, I'll slide the card with your assigned date and list of cabin numbers under your door. So you can give your gift anonymously or you can indicate who it's from -- your preference. You can let me know when you PM me your cabin numbers if there is a date you do or do NOT want to hand out gifts. I'll try to accommodate, but will also try to balance out so we have a least one gift that we're getting each day. This leaves an element of surprise so you're not sure exactly what's coming when or from whom...

STILL, your advice is GREAT. If each group/family could PM me indicating how many cabins will be GIVING gifts (eg, my 3 cabin numbers are: x,y,z and cabin x,y will be giving gifts) I can assign dates evenly so we get a little something everday.

How does that sound? Too confusing. Hopefully, it will be simple - just follow instructions on card I give you at DISmeet ;)

Candy, stickers, glow sticks, magnets, post cards from your home town are just a few simple examples. We want to keep it simple. Some people have gotten pretty fancy and creative. Some of us had discussed adding a thread for the kids in our family groups to post before the cruise and kind of get to know some other kids who will be on the cruise with them.

So, I started a thread for the kids of the Feb. 14, 2009 cruise. I also asked in the thread starter to check with parents before they post (although they probably aren't even going to know about DIS unless WE tell them about it, so I guess we'd know anyway?). It can be found here:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=29514281#post29514281

Irishcowboy is going to add it to the main list of cruise meets. I asked him to try and get it immediately under the main thread for the Feb. 14 cruise.

It is getting sooooo close now. I 'finished' all of my gifts last night! We are heading to WDW in 30 days! (leaving on the 12th) We are spending 2 nights at OKW. My DSIL is staying at the MCO Hyatt the night before.

I am spending this upcoming weekend finalizing our wardrobe. I need to do "fashion show" with the girls princess: princess: (trying on clothes, making sure they fit and limiting the number of outfits!!) I usually iron everything before we leave and pack in ziplock baggies. It works wonderfully. (best DIS tip ever!!:thumbsup2 ) they don't get too wrinkled, everything is together and it something happens to leak in your suitcase, the clothes are protected.
I am usually up very late the night before vacation, but this time (and I say this every time) I am going to be packed early and relax the night before and the following morning. Our flight is at 11 am, so we can take our time in the morning.

Who will be at the 'World' and who will be at the Hyatt?

We are DVC members, but we don't go enough to purchase an annual pass. My kids are just starting out in school, so we will not be vacationing as often. I am super excited!! Not much longer and we will be on the boat. It’s snowing here today and it makes me want to be there more. I think I will work on packing this weekend. I always take too much, so hope to get that started so I can really think what I need.
I also just scored 30 Camp Rock/Jonas Brothers magnets to add to the goody bags for everyone!! I had thought they were all gone, but found some left in the closet. I hope it’s okay that I am just getting kid stuff, tattoos, stickers, and magnets. I am trying to have enough for each kid, so 30ish of each thing. I still have to find bags or something to keep everything in.
I am so ready to go. I just requested the time off and it was approved. (I knew it would be) but yeah for one more thing done.
Now need to work on excursions. DH wants to scuba diver, he is certified, but don’t even know where to start with that. I would be happy just staying on the ship all week, but that’s what we did last time, with just quick trips off the boat.
So excited to see everyone! Did we decide on a meeting place for Tuesday yet?

(best DIS tip ever!!:thumbsup2 ) they don't get too wrinkled, everything is together and it something happens to leak in your suitcase, the clothes are protected.
I am usually up very late the night before vacation, but this time (and I say this every time) I am going to be packed early and relax the night before and the following morning. Our flight is at 11 am, so we can take our time in the morning.

Who will be at the 'World' and who will be at the Hyatt?

Packing already??! Seriously??? I still need to lose 30 pounds! :rotfl2: AND the part is still on order for my elliptical machine, so I will not be trying on clothes until I am running out the door for vacation! :scared1:

Ooh, good idea on the Ziploc bag thing! Does anyone use Spacebags? Kelly Rippa always says how great they are, so I picked up some Target-brand ones today. Any suggestions? I plan on mixing and matching (i.e. "re-using") outfit pieces, so I don't think each outfit in individual baggies would work for us. I think somebody on the "best tips" thread mentioned that one.

I, too, am NEVER ready until the last possible nanosecond, despite spending WAAAAY too much time planning (DISboards, PP, etc.!), sorting, listing, packing & repacking. Wish I could even HOPE this time will be different, but I know it won't. :laundy:

We leave on Feb. 10th and will be at the Embassy Suites LBV until the 14th. We will be at the World W, Th, Fr. I haven't made one dinner ressie or anything this time! Totally winging it there. Might be liberating for "Super Planner" me!

does any one know much about the scuba diving? As I am not a very good swimmer I am a little concerned about trying to do this, but I would love to try. Is there a beginners group or do you need to be a good swimmer

Daleh, do you mean "scuba" or "snorkel"? To scuba, you have to be "scuba certified", which is pretty involved. Our Community Ed. classes have SCUBA every once in awhile. Snorkeling is something most people can do. Like even me, pregnant, last cruise. My boys, then 10 & 12, also did fine. The tricky part (for me, anyway!) is not tipping the snorkel-y part into the water behind you. They make you wear a life jacket, as well. I think just about everywhere, well I guess I only know about Castaway Cay & Cozumel. Snorkeling at CC was cool. You just waded in & started. If you snorkel on an excursion somehwere else, it usually involves getting off & on a boat (usually via ladder) or off croppy rocky areas (also usually with a ladder). Just my 2 cents, hope that helps! :)

My dd8 will be so excited about the jo-bro gifties, she's a big fan.

See I don't know what I meant but Clint at reservations helped me out an d got us on the beginners group at Castaway. sorry for the mistake, I would not have the nerve to scuba dive, so I definantly meant Snorkel. Thanks for correcting me. Told you I and a green pea.

I've used spacebags and think they work pretty well. We actually borrowed a vacuum from our cabin steward for them on last cruise. I'm not sure if I'm going to use them again, but probably.

On the boat you can just charge everything to your room and pay at the end. Don't wait till the last night, everyone is there. It depends on if you plan to shop on land. I wouldn't think you would need much.
The shops on board have some cute stuff, I hope not to buy too much this time, just a frame or two.

We need to get a final count on the gift exchange participation list, as people need to know how many gifts to get. Here is the list I have. Please let me know if you want to add or remove your name from the list by TOMORROW, JANUARY 16. If I do not hear from you, I will assume that you are OK with the below list.

Also, please note that we have included info on who is in the cabin, just fyi. You do not need to get different tailored gifts for each cabin. I will be getting same gift for everyone, just fyi.

GIFT EXCHANGE LIST:
1. grizbuzz (One Cabin. Jen, John, Max DS5, Nico DS3)
2. SnowWhat Cabin 1 (Jean, Eddie, Catrina DD5, and Christine DD will be 2 weeks shy of 4) PLUS TWO ADD'AL CABINS
3. SnowWhat Cabin 2 (DSIL Debbie, Buzz, DS 11, DD9)
4. SnowWhat Cabin 3 & 4 (Cabin 3: Denise, Johnny and DD3; Cabin 4: twins13 and DS10)
5. Jodi (Two Cabins. Cabin 1: Jodi and DH; Cabin 2: Spencer DS13, step-son Eli 13, step-daughter Skye 17)
6. disnutt (Three Cabins. Cabin 1- me, DH, DS 5; Cabin 2: disnutt's mother, DD-13, DD-8; Cabin 3- MIL, FIL)
7. rubbergypsy Cabin 1: rubbergypsy, DD8
8. rubbergypsy Cabin 2: Friend, DS7, DD9, DD12
9. rubbergypsy Cabin 3: two adult females
10. lovesDLS (One Cabin. 2 people)
11. Jodijo (Two cabins. Cabin 1: Mitch & Jodi; Cabin 2: Mason (13) & Mickayla (11))
12. Jennifer W Cabin 1: Jennifer and DH Mark.
13. Jennifer W Cabin 2: DS (14), DS (12), and DS (22 mo)
14. chrissyt27 (One cabin: me, DH)

16. minniemousememories (Two cabins: 2 Boys age 4, 1 girl age 4, 1 boy age 8, 1 girl age 10, 2 adult F, 1 adult M)

HOW IT WORKS:
1. Participants will get small gift for each cabin signed up (not including your own cabin). So as of now, each participant will bring 21 gifts.
2. Each group listed above will be giving gifts. In some cases there is more than one cabin listed per group. Every cabin listed will get gifts, but only the 16 groups above will be giving gifts. We've made the decision that it is OK if your group is getting more gifts than you are giving. If you have a large group, it is up to you how many cabins you want to give gifts. I'm assuming that you will only be giving one gift per group, unless you let me know otherwise.
3. STARTING NOW, as soon as you know your cabin number(s), PM grizbuzz
4. grizbuzz will write up a gift exchange list to distribute at our DISMeet (tentatively scheduled for Day 2 at 1pm, location TBD) with a list of cabins to deliver gifts to, as well as your assigned day to deliver the gifts. If you have a preference for which day you do or do not want to distribute gifts, PM grizbuzz.
5. Fish extenders not required, though if you want to make/bring one, by all means do!

Hey Grizz!

The 1/2 marathon was totally awesome!! The weather couldn't have been more perfect! But that's coming from someone from the Northeast...southerners may have something else to say about that!

I guess it was around 48-50 degrees @ the start (maybe even colder). My brother, mom (72) & niece participated, too!! Only my mom had done it b4, back in '06 when it was the first time for both of us! I ran my best time yet for a 1/2 2:03...almost 2:04. My mom beat her time by 18 MINUTES from her previous try 3 years ago!!:yay: We all REALLY enjoyed ourselves. I did Goofy last year, but this was much more relaxing. I'll sign up again for the Disney 1/2 next year (running NYC marathon in Nov.) and I believe many more family members will be, too. Including my son (who will be 14 in March). I'm already excited :rotfl2: :sad2: . MAN, Disney knows how to get my $$$$$:rotfl:

So do tell about your first 1/2 plans!! What made you decide to join the insane world of running? :lmao: Don't be nervous, just relax & have fun. Don't worry about times, etc., just finish. There will always be another race to better your times if you want.

What's up with the leg? What are the symptoms. Listen, the best advice I've ever gotten from my massage/acupuncturist guy is to soak in hot water & Epsom salt. It has always helped me!

I really, really hope that they have that 5k on CC, I've been hearing different things here on the boards about that :confused3 .

Hey Guys, I've got a question.

We have a Nautica Snorkel thingie scheduled in St. Thomas. It's $375 total for the 5 of us. The thing is, it starts @ 8 a.m. Do you think it'll be too cold @ that time? They said the water is always 80...I don't know. Also, do you think we'd be missing out if we did NO excursions @ all & just walked around & shopped & went to local beaches?? That leads me to my next question...ARE there beaches & shops in walking distance from the boat?

Thanks

Jodi

OK, I am in awe of your family. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

You ran Goofy last year?
Your 72 year old mom beat her 1/2 marathon time by 18 minutes?
Your niece and brother ran too?
You all ROCK!

So, I'll be participating in the Huntington Beach 1/2 marathon on Feb 1. I decided to start training about 7 months ago for many reasons (turning 40 this year and no time like the present being one of them!). But it definitely has been the WISH boards that's helped me take this from a "hypothetical" to a reality. I have a personal trainer who I meet with about every month who's given me a program to follow with running and strength training. So I'm feeling pretty good.

The foot and leg are feeling much better this week after staying away from running for four days. I actually have been doing hot baths with epsom salt, as well as stretching and resting, and I think it's been helping. I could really use a deep tissue massage though! I'm supposed to do a 2 and 1/2 hour long run on Saturday before my taper, but I'm just not sure it's worth it and am considering resting instead or a shorter run. Taking it day by day at this point.

I turn the big 40 in December and am considering a 2010 WDW 1/2 marathon. Or maybe another race that's a little closer to home. But definitely plan on doing something amazing to celebrate the occasion.

Congrats on your 1/2 marathon! 2:03 is an awesome job! :thumbsup2
I'm hoping for a 2:30 or actually just a finish for my first one.

And here's to hoping the Castaway Cay 5k works out!

Jen - Good for you!! I'm amazed that you just "decided" it was time to start running :thumbsup2 . The WISH boards are great, aren't they? Sounds like you're doing all the right things for your injury. As far as your LRs this weekend...I'd play it by ear. Perhaps just go out planning to run 1/2 hr. or 45 mins., and if the body doesn't object, go a little further. If the leg complains, just keep it to 1/2 hr. Honestly, with only 2 weeks to race day (:cheer2: :hyper: ), there's not much more you'll gain as far as "fitness" is concerned. You want to arrive healthy & ready to run. I don't know, every time I start freaking about missing a run, my husband, politely, because he knows how important it is to me, reminds me that I'm not training for the Olympics & to just relax :rotfl: .

I'll be waiting to hear how you made out!! :hyper:

Does anyone know how many people are on this thread, but not doing the FE gifts? No real reason, I was just wondering like how many people might be showing up for the meet on Day 2. Just with the FE people, we could have around 80 people, right??? 21 cabins x 4 per cabin? I know several cabins are less than 4; so maybe somewhere more than 60, but less than 80 would be more accurate??? WOW! :cool1: WE are one COOL group of cruisers! :lmao:

Has anyone ever come up with a name or slogan for our cruise? Like other cruises have slogans like "Tuggin to Tortola" or "September Double Dip" or "Parrotheads in Paradise." OK, that last one I may have made up, but the others are real. I just started posting on this thread about a month or 2 ago, so was wondering if a name had be formulated earlier for us. If not, any ideas? Anyone? :confused3

WOW, that's a lot of counting. glad this is a per cabin gift exchange and not a per person! Although, if I were to do stickers or tatoos, I would definately do per person. Ever have two kids and one tatoo? NOT PRETTY.

Ok, gift exchange sign up is officially closed.

Here is the final count:

GIFT EXCHANGE LIST:
1. grizbuzz (One Cabin. Jen, John, Max DS5, Nico DS3)
2. SnowWhat Cabin 1 (Jean, Eddie, Catrina DD5, and Christine DD will be 2 weeks shy of 4) PLUS TWO ADD'AL CABINS
3. SnowWhat Cabin 2 (DSIL Debbie, Buzz, DS 11, DD9)
4. SnowWhat Cabin 3 & 4 (Cabin 3: Denise, Johnny and DD3; Cabin 4: twins13 and DS10)
5. Jodi (Two Cabins. Cabin 1: Jodi and DH; Cabin 2: Spencer DS13, step-son Eli 13, step-daughter Skye 17)
6. rubbergypsy Cabin 1: Liz and Riley DD8
7. rubbergypsy Cabin 2 & 3 (Cabin 2: Friend, DS7, DD9, DD12; Cabin 3: two adult females)
8. lovesDLS (One Cabin. 2 people)
9. Jodijo (Two cabins. Cabin 1: Mitch & Jodi; Cabin 2: Mason (13) & Mickayla (11))
10. Jennifer W Cabin 1: Jennifer and DH Mark.
11. Jennifer W Cabin 2: DS (14), DS (12), and DS (22 mo)
12. chrissyt27 (One cabin: me, DH)
13. Daleh (me, DH -- 40th anniversary!)
14. minniemousememories (Two cabins: 2 Boys age 4, 1 girl age 4, 1 boy age 8, 1 girl age 10, 2 adult F, 1 adult M)

HOW IT WORKS:
1. Participants will get small gift for each cabin signed up (not including your own cabin). This means participants will distribute 18 gifts.
2. Each group listed above will be giving gifts. In some cases there is more than one cabin listed per group. Every cabin listed will get gifts, but only the 14 groups above will be giving gifts. We've made the decision that it is OK if your group is getting more gifts than you are giving. If you have a large group, it is up to you how many cabins you want to give gifts. I'm assuming that you will only be giving one gift per group, unless you let me know otherwise.
3. As soon as you know your cabin number(s), PM grizbuzz
4. grizbuzz will write up a gift exchange list to distribute at our DISMeet (tentatively scheduled for Day 2 at 1pm, location TBD) with a list of cabins to deliver gifts to, as well as your assigned day to deliver the gifts. If you have a preference for which day you do or do not want to distribute gifts, PM grizbuzz.
5. Fish extenders not required, though if you want to make/bring one, by all means do!

Hello,

I've been lurking here off and on and finally had to post to say we are not coming. Dear MIL had lumpectomy and radiation and was told no chemo was needed so we thought we could make it but now her arm is puffing up and they have her getting some kind of therapy for it.

I decided along w/ my DH to cancel for this trip because I know that I'll be the one responsible for making arrangements to get her back if she gets sick/hurt and I don't want to be the one doing it. We had trip insurance but I still don't want to be the coordinator for that kind of thing.

MIL was fine (maybe relieved) by the decision. DH, the kids and I are going to Disney World for a few days over that time to ease our pain!

I need to request our cabins be removed from the gift exchange and I want to wish everyone a great cruise! I'll be checking out the thread when you guys get back.

Take care,
Kiena

Hi Kiena,

I am so sorry for you.

Thanksgiving I lost my Dad, & on Christmas eve my DS was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is having them removed along with some of her lymnodes, on 2/4 I feel very guilty about going on vacation.

Healthy thoughts & prayers go to you & your family.

Wow thanks for the count. I am trying to do lots of small goodies from my office. I have a collection of 5 sheets of Disney tattos, Wall-E, Little Mermaid, Tink and so on, at this point 30 of each and also some magnets and other small things. All in groups of 30, I may have to round up a few more. I know how it can be with kids. I am trying to think of something more adult appropriate too.

Kiena - So sorry you won't be on the cruise, I was looking forward to swapping running stories with you & meeting your daughter. I hope the issues that your MIL is experiencing resolve themselves quickly. And like Jen said, you'll cruise again when it's less stressful. I really don't think you would have been able to full relax this time around. :grouphug:

Patty - You've had quite a rocky road the last couple months, wow. About feeling guilty...listen, you need to take this trip & unwind a little. I can only imagine how stressful things must be. Your DS wouldn't want you not going on her account, no doubt.

Believe it or not, I am totally packed, just need the phone & charger & camera & charger, passport money & paper work.

Now, I need to pack for DD.

Is anyone shipping boxes to the port? I am ;) the box is packed, labled & ready to go.

We are staying at the Hyatt, & taking the Disney bus to the port. With the 4 of us, I just thought it might be too much a hassle to rent the car with our suitcases. We will save this stress for the end of the cruise. Anyone using Enterprise?

Questions, I've got Questions. LOL

You are all packed???!!! I am in AWE! Way to go Pat! :cool1:

What are you shipping to the port? Have you done it before? Will it be cheaper than paying extra money for a suitcase on the airplane? Hmmm, I may have to ponder this one.... And I suppose I really should start packing at least for the rest of the family, and then maybe I'd know if mailing or an extra suitcase are going to be required.

Of course, they are all BOYS, and say they could exist on an extra pair of shorts, 2 T-shirts and MAYBE some extra underwear! :rotfl2:

I still haven't figured out transportation, either. We will be at WDW (off-site) for Tues. thru Sat. Even with "2 free days" (frequent renter program) from National, the 4 days of rental comes up at $200!!! What is with that?! DH is renting again all week soon, so we'll see if he earns another free day. I hate leaving this till the last minute, though.

Does anyone know how much of a hassle it is getting back to the port from the National desk? The only one I can find is at the Melbourne airport. We flew in & out of there last cruise, but can't remember how far that is. And would I be able to check in the family without him there? The paperwork stuff, not getting on the boat.

I see your questions and I raise you tenfold! ;)

Packing has been great theapy for me, I love to plan, I have a little of everything.

And I suppose I really should start packing at least for the rest of the family, and then maybe I'd know if mailing or an extra suitcase are going to be required.;)

I did ship for the last 4 cruises. This time I packed a beach raft, sun products, perfume, gifts for the staff, pirate costumes, heels, gown, blow dryer, airfresher & lot's of other little stuff that, I just didn't want to pack in my suitcase. No liquor this time,(but I have in the past)

I use Fedex ground & it costs about $18.00 (I have a lot of stuff) For me, it's worth the money. FYI, I usually throw out, most of the items when the cruise is over. If I choose to bring items back home, & don't want to pack it. I go to the Fedex Kinkos in Orlando on the way back to the airport, & mail the stuff home. It's always much cheaper to mail home.

Of course, they are all BOYS, and say they could exist on an extra pair of shorts, 2 T-shirts and MAYBE some extra underwear! :rotfl2: ;)
LOL
For my trips, I go target, & buy the package of 6 underware (the inexpensive package set) & then throw them out after wear. Less in my suitcase. I also pack everything in baggies, to make room & less wrinkles in the clothing.

From what I read, about National, it's in Port Canveral not far from the ship. Yes, you can fill out the paper work & check in before DH get's to the port.

Do you need a coupon? I have the new entertainment book, & I think it has National in it.

I just read Lollipop's report. She just got off the Magic today:

JUST off the Magic...WOW

Our first cruise - loved it - I am killing time in the airport right now. Loved the ship, loved our 'little room' and most of everything else was super.
Poured rain in cozumel, but grand cayman had great weather. Water at castaway cay is FRIGID and several pizzed off people who pre-booked water excursions (snorkeling) that could not get their money back when the water was too cold. I suggest you cancel water activities and play it by ear on the day once you feel the water. We will swim in fairly cold water, but this was really really cold.

Thanks for the info, Patricia, here's a few more ?'s for you, if you don't mind:

How do you know where to mail it? How far in advance can you have it mailed? Can I ask your reason for using Fed Ex instead of USPS priority or first class mail?* In my area USPS is a lot cheaper than the other guys.

I think National may have moved recently--I think I will ask on the main boards to see if recent cruisers have used National.* Thanks for the coupon offer--I probably have one, too--think they would let me use free days AND a coupon?

I just called DCL to check on the status of my dinner seating.* We had been on the waitlist for Main Seating and WE GOT IT!!!** :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2:
There is NO WAY our 22 month could make it through late seating.* I am soooo relieved.* I had prepared myself for late, and called with a "no big deal" attitude, and HAPPY DAY!* :wave2:

Also, per the Castaway Club CM:Pirate Night will be Day 4, Tuesday, the day we are in St. Maarten.* pirate: party:

Jen, I am a ebay seller, my best experience has been with Fedex Ground. They have the best customer service department, god forbid anything happens, they will go out of there way to track the package down. (I know first hand, I had a problem shipping a package to the ship 4 years ago, & Fedex got the package there before we left) No only are they cheaper than the post office, but insurance & deliverly conformation is included in the $18.00(unlike the post office) If you priority your box down, & it is heavy, your going to pay big bucks. First class is under one pound.

I will mail it out 2/6/09 about 1 week before. It depends on what part of the country you are from. I am from the NYC area, so I know it takes about 5 business days to get here to FL. What state do you live in?
Ship it to this address, outside the box put Your Name, the Ship Name, Sail Date, and Stateroom & contents of the package.
The address is

The Disney Magic
9001 Marlin Street
Cape Canaveral
32920
room # your name & sailing date

In answer to your questions:

1) How many gifts? We are at 18 gifts
2) Where do I leave gifts? If there is a fish extender of some sort, leave it in the fish extender. If there isn't, hook it on the fish. And yes, I would put your gift in a little baggie so it will hook nicely on fish.
3) How do I know where to leave gifts? Everyone needs to PM me their cabin number. If it is in any reason subject to change, let me know that as well. I will distribute lists of cabin numbers with your date to distribute gifts at the DISmeet. I am doing it at the DIS meet and not providing electronically beforehand, as there is at least one group who will not know their cabin number until boarding. If you are not at the DIS meet, I will deliver the card with info to distribute gifts to your cabin.

And for the cold water...we're used to the Pacific ocean and ice run off in Lake Tahoe, so hopefully we will be prepared.

We do not have fish extenders. I am planning on decorating paper gift bags and using them as "FE's". Economical, easy to pack and easy to dipose of!!

There are 14 groups, numbered below. Some groups have one cabin, some have more. So for jodi and Jodijo - you each have one group. Bring 18 gifts.

Again here is the list and the guidelines:

GIFT EXCHANGE LIST:
Participating Groups:
1. grizbuzz (One Cabin. Jen, John, Max DS5, Nico DS3)
2. SnowWhat Cabin 1 (Jean, Eddie, Catrina DD5, and Christine DD will be 2 weeks shy of 4)
3. SnowWhat Cabin 2 (DSIL Debbie, Buzz, DS 11, DD9)
4. SnowWhat Cabin 3 & 4 (Cabin 3: Denise, Johnny and DD3; Cabin 4: twins13 and DS10)
5. Jodi (Two Cabins. Cabin 1: Jodi and DH; Cabin 2: Spencer DS13, step-son Eli 13, step-daughter Skye 17)
6. rubbergypsy Cabin 1: Liz and Riley DD8
7. rubbergypsy Cabin 2 & 3 (Cabin 2: Friend, DS7, DD9, DD12; Cabin 3: two adult females)
8. lovesDLS (One Cabin. 2 people)
9. Jodijo (Two cabins. Cabin 1: Mitch & Jodi; Cabin 2: Mason (13) & Mickayla (11))
10. Jennifer W Cabin 1: Jennifer and DH Mark.
11. Jennifer W Cabin 2: DS (14), DS (12), and DS (22 mo)
12. chrissyt27 (One cabin: me, DH)
13. Daleh (me, DH -- 40th anniversary!)
14. minniemousememories (Two cabins: 2 Boys age 4, 1 girl age 4, 1 boy age 8, 1 girl age 10, 2 adult F, 1 adult M)

HOW IT WORKS:
1. Participating groups will get small gift for each cabin signed up (not including your own cabin). This means each group will distribute 18 gifts.

OK, I am starting to get panicky here--has anyone received their luggage tags yet? And should we be getting cruise documents? Or is that what I got a few months ago with the little booklets on the shore excursions, etc.? With the online check-in stuff we fill out ahead of time, is that all there is for "cruise documents" now? And I guess since we're not using Disney transportation, will we even be getting luggage tags???:confused3

For the life of me I cannot remember how it went last time. Sorry to be a spaz!

Usually you receive cruise docs around 2 weeks before by ups (at least that is how I have received them). Should be soon!!!

Yeah, We're getting excited in our house, too. The documents should be here next week and then I know the kids will be frenzied for the trip. Is anyone doing excursions on their own in St. Martin and St. Thomas. I'm looking for beautiful, hassle free beaches to go to with the kids and have been reading and reading and reading. The excursions for the 5 and under kids just don't look like much more than you could do with a taxi on your own.

Anyone have any ideas or experience?

OK, I am relieved. And I remembered we MUST still get luggage tags, because they are color coded to an area of the ship or something, I think.

I am SO ready to be on a Caribbean island. :beach:

I am in the same boat. I am not wanting to do a pre-arranged excursion, want something fun, easy, yet not waste our time on a beautiful exotic island. I thought of renting a car on St. Maarten ahead of time, as apparently it's a lot cheaper to do that, but do they have car seats??? Will any type of transportation be safe to do with small ones?

I am also reading Mozart's trip report--he did the eastern itinerary in Dec. I haven't gotten to the ports yet, though. He is a good read.

OK, just got to a part in his TR that says the eastern itinerary on his cruise was changed to a western because of weather. Still a great read, but alas, not info on eastern ports.

I found www.cruisecritic.com last week. They have lots of info, maps, etc. for our ports of call. Still don't know exactly what we are going to do, though. :hourglass

The last time I was in St Thomas was 1996 or 1997. There was a group of 21 of us on one of the Carnival ships....we walked of the ship to the main road and took a van to Meaghan's bay..it was awesome. Much cheaper than an excursion and no committment. I share the concern about car seats. Is is worth it to take the little ones in some island car ride with a crazy driver?

My husband thinks I am over the top when it comes to planning and packing. I occasionally ask him for his opinion about something and he will shoot me down, saying 'no need to do that", 'don't bother, it's too much trouble", "why do you want to do that". But he is on his own for packing his stuff. That is the rule... then when we get there, "honey, did you pack my...?" and guess what the answer is !:rotfl: but he likes to make lists and organize his outfits. He has some of his stuff set aside already.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that is all you will get in the mail. You should fill out the forms on the DCL website and print them out & bring them with you to the check-in desk, along with whatever it says in the stuff you got today.

We got our Cruise docs on Friday! We got upgraded too! Wahooooo! We went from a Cat 9 to a balcony room on the 5th floor! Hooray!

I am traveling with my 7 year old son and my Mom and this is our 5th Disney cruise. We went on the Panama Canal cruise last year and the Med cruise the year before.

For the WB panama canal, we were the "Ship of Thieves", since we are going for Valentines, how about "Ship of Hearts" for the cruise name?

We already started getting everything together for the cruise - can't wait for 7 days of relaxation!!

Whoo hoo for you!!! :cool1: How I WISH we would get upgraded, but I know that won't happen as we have 2 connecting cabins. Oh well. I am excited to have our 2 category 9's anyway!

Ship of Hearts is cute...what does eveyone else think? We'll have to consolidate all the ideas in one place. I think tomorrow I will start packing the misc. stuff for the cruise. I spent all day today FINALLY figuring out our transportation :moped: from the airport to hotel to port and back again. UGH! Should it really cost over $300 just for that for 5 people??? I think not!

Dis'ers Magical Valentine Voyage
Disboard's Magical 7 Day Warm-up Voyage
Cupid's Folly

Cupid Cruise
Ship of Hearts

Again, probably too late to make lanyards or shirts, but it would be cute to have a door sign or magnet, for those of you who like to decorate your doors...and you KNOW who you ARE. ;)

You can find a graphic you like from the cruise magnet thread, or disigners thread, then figure out a way to add text to make it say what you want. (haha)

I right click on a graphic I like (I look for ones that have no text, or that I like the text that's there), then save the graphic to my computer (in my photo folder).

Then I open a new Word document, and copy and paste the graphic. Size as I want it, then add a text box where I want it. I make sure to double click on the text box and (usually, but depends on the look I want) select "no outline" and "no background color" so the text is just there on top of the graphic.

Finally, save it, check the "print preview" to see what the final thing will look like, then print on magnet paper (from Office Max, Michael's, sometimes Wal-Mart, Target, etc.), or on photo paper and attach some strip magnets onthe back. Voila! Crafty & cute you has made a door magnet! Ta da!

Careful, it's addictive! :lmao: I had to take down my magnets for the upcoming cruise before DH came home from a trip, so he wouldn't realize HOW much time I had spent making those while he was gone instead of, oh, cleaning or cooking. "Hey kids, you want bagel bites again for supper, don't you?!" :rotfl2:

It will be a nice surprise for him when we get on the ship, though!

Ship of Hearts for us. We leave 2 weeks from tomorrow and it is going to fly by. I am trying to be somewhat organized and not having much luck. With the 1 bag per person on our flight I am not sure if I can do it especially with the formal stuff and the pirate costumes. I may just carry them on the plane, yuk. Or I may pay for a second bag. It was not long ago when we all could check 2 bags per person for free!!!

I got an email from my travel agent indicated that she got my docs today and all is in order. So I guess we should be seeing them soon.

Hey, we were on the President's Day cruise last year, too! But it was the Wonder, not the Magic. I brought along my family and we had four cabins. I can tell you my stress level is way down traveling just with the immediate family this year.

I did a teeny bit of shopping today and got the boys a couple outfits. Somehow, this has made the task of packing seem a little more appealing. Heck, if I go and get myself some clothes, maybe I'll be ready to do it! :upsidedow

In fact, the luggage tags made me kind of sad, as I knew we would only be using 1 per person, because of airline restrictions, and not the 2 per person that they gave us. What a sad, pathetic existence...sad over the luggage I cannot bring. Sheesh!:faint:

In the name game, it appears to be a tie! With "Ship of Hearts" and "Valentine's Voyage" each getting 5 votes. So use whichever you want on your door magnets.

You are too funny! pirate: Don't sweat the fish extender--any type of receptacle to hold mail or small goodies with a string or ribbon for hanging it off the metal fish will work just fine! Iam using a gift bag-type thing from Target, and I will put different ribbon or string on it to make it hang down lower than the string it came with. Then I can throw it away after the cruise and not have to bring it home.

As for the luggage tags, you put them on the suitcases before you get to port, and that tells the porters where/which deck to put them on, then they get further sorted to your cabin. I believe if you are doing Disney flights and transportation to the port (DCL bus), they give you different tags for that.

OK, that's what I thought about the tags. Good thing I didn't throw them out!!:crazy2:
Note to self - buy 2 bags of some sort to hang off the fish thing...got it!!!:joker:

I was putting together the gift exchange list this afternoon. Looks like I still need cabin numbers from the following people:

Jodi (for two rooms)
lovesDCL
Daleh

Please indicate cabin number and who will be in what room with ages for the kids. I need this info ASAP.

Also, I PMed individuals the date that they are distributing gifts. Let me know if you did not get a private message from me. I will be giving out the lists of cabin numbers to distribute gifts to at the DIS Meet at 1pm on Sunday, Feb 15.

Last chance to vote on location of the DISMeet. Please follow link below and VOTE. Winner so far is Topsiders. And let us know if you will be at the DIS Meet! You don't need to participate in the gift exchange to join us at the meet, of course.

We will be, but are planning to be totally "fly by the seat of our pants" this trip. No ADR's, not staying on property, so we get no EMH's, I tend to overplan :rotfl2: , so promised the rest of the family I'd tone it down this time. Have fun if some of you meet up, though!

I am sooo excited to go! This weekend pretty much HAS to be THE weekend for packing here, as I will be at a scrapbook weekend the ENTIRE weekend before we leave on Tuesday, the 10th. Yes, I knew when it was when I signed up, but it has made me pack earlier than ever, which is a good thing. Plus, I figure I would be pacing the house if I was home! :hourglass

Thanks for all the good wishes!

To set the record straight, I don't think anyone has ever been intimidated by my athletic prowess, nor am I a bathing beauty. :rotfl2: That's the crazy thing about running...anyone can do it. Just takes setting the goal and doing the training (and training and training...). I am S-L-O-W and you'd never guess I ran by looking at me. Check out the WISH threads. I think you'll see a lot of "ordinary" people who just decided to take on a challenge and get more healthy.

Hi Jodi! Last year I just purchased 2 canvas bags at Walmart in the craft section. I printed out some disney graphics on iron on paper, and ironed them onto the bags. It worked great.

I wanted to make fish extenders this year but am running out of time. I might just put out my canvas bags again!

Hi Patty,

We are also flying in Friday afternoon and staying at the Hyatt and taking the DCL bus to the port in the morning. We also wanted to visit DW or DTD but taking a town car there roundtrip at $100 + tip for just a few hours doesn't look too hot for us. Are you driving there? And do you know if we can pay to take the ME over? Thanks! :flower3:

I think you can take a bus, from the airport to DW. It really isn't all that expensive. I reserved a compact car for the 4 of us from Thrifty. It's only costing us $32.51 (I reserved last year) If I had room in our rent a car, I would have, gladly taken you guys. Keep in mind that I am making a liquor store stop. If you need anything, send me a PM .;)

Mears Shuttle is moderately priced for transfers between Orlando International Airport (MCO) and the Disney resorts at $30 roundtrip for adults (12 and older) and $22 for kids ages 4-11. Kids 3 and under are free.

I am very excited about the Hyatt. Apparently, we leave our luggage in the room locked, & then, Disney picks it up & deliver it to the Magic :thumbsup2

I guess we will see you on the bus in the AM :cheer2:

What time do you think you'll be walking? I plan on walking deck 4 too, just not sure when. I am kind of tied to the baby's schedule...but of course if I woke up early before he did it wouldn't really matter if I was gone.* Of course, it's VACATION and sleeping in is good, too!

*Because DH would still be with him, not that I would leave the baby alone! :rotfl:

Ahh.....I've forgotten what it's like with a baby's schedule. My DD is 14. Do you think you can sneak away from 8 to 9 or 7 to 8?

My last trip in the Med, I actually did laps in the adult pool. I kinda looked goofy, doing laps in a small pool. I do it home, & didn't want to miss out while at sea.

Hi Jodi,

I booked the Hyatt myself (using the online coupons for $140.00 a night)

When you arrive at 10:30 pm, someone from the Hyatt will retrive your suitcases in baggage claim if you would like. They will deliever it your room. You just have to describe your bags to the front desk :thumbsup2 I am not sure, if I want to go that route.

When you check in, you have to tell them that you are on the "Disney cruise". They will tell Disney you are here, & let you know, where to meet the bus in the AM. They told me we will lock our suitcases in our room, & someone from the Hyatt brings them to the Disney bus.

Thank you for the reply. I think we will pick up our suitcases ourselves. We are getting there so late and I don't want to wait up for our suitcases to show up. Besides, all suitcases look alike now of days. I would hate to get the wrong one delivered to my room.

Just pick a time that you like & I'll see how it fits into the toddler's schedule. If he is awake, he could join me in his stroller. DH is great about taking care of the kids, but he hardly ever gets to sleep in, so I don't want to wreck his chances to do that while on vacation.

I don't think I'll be joining you in the swimming. I only appear in a swimsuit under extreme conditions...like being on a tropical island where it would be a crime not to partake in the beautiful Caribbean waters. hehe. :beach:

I am packed (90%) for the stuff I can pack ahead! :cool1: Just need the diaper bag, bathroom stuff, have to print out cruise docs, airplane diversions, and print a few more door magnets. I couldn't possibly not use all of my sheets of magnet paper! HA!
