We leave next Sunday. We won't arrive till Sunday evening, but plan to spend the evening, form 8 or so till close at MK. We have 3 full days of parks after that. How many pictures does one take typically. I wnat a picture of everything, so if I remember, I will be taking pics of food and the hotel, the room, etc!! I do have digital camera, so I can dlete the bad ones, But I jsut don't know if I should go buy another card or not? I have a 1G card. And then a 516 MB I think, and a 128MB I think. I know it's alot of pictures, but will it be enough. I have only maxed the lowest card once. I think I had close to 100 pictures on it then.

I find I take fewer pics each trip. If this is your first trip, plan on 500. I think everyone goes nuts taking pics of every attraction, whereas on subsequent trips there are more pics of people because let's face it...ToT looks the same now as it did in 2002. :)
I think I take about 75-100 per trip now.

This isn't my first trip. I have been there, but it is about 8 or 9 years since I went. And this is my first trip with my DH and our DD2. We have never stayed onsite, so I want to be sure to get lots of the hotel too. I actaully have gone back and looked at my old pictures and I am mad that I didn't take anymore than I did. Only a couple of rolls each time.
I should have enough memory then. If not, I guess we could run to Walmart and get another card.

I took 850 in 12 days but there were quite a few of the back of DD2's head (she is too darn quick)
and I have 90 on Photopass
can you download them? I know you used to be able to go to the photo place in Epcot and have a CD made. Or you could take it off site, walmart or wallgreens.

Thats true. I have never done it that way before, but I could, if I use them up. I usually upload them to a site and purchase them that way. Which, BTW, I have dial up, so it takes forever!

I may be the extreme, but on our last trip I took 500 digital, 10 rolls of film and had a Photopass with 360. This was our first trip, DH and my anniversary, my sister met us from New Mexico and DS's 2nd birthday. However, I am quite the shutterbug! And I did scrapbook almost all of them- 3 books and 1 small one for the autographs- it was so much fun!

i take about 150 per day.

Last trip I had 2 128 mB cards usig a 5MP camera. I took between 25 and 40 pictures per day. I then stored them on my Laptop.
My new Camera has a 1 GB card that can hold 270 pictures with the 7.3 MP set at max resolution.
IF you take 40 pictures per day for 4 days with a 7.3 MP camera set on max, you do not need to get another card, but you may need to switch to the 512 card.

When we go any where that we know we won't be going back to any time soon, we take as many pictures as possible.

My dh averages 100 to 150 pix a day. Then he downloads them to our laptop at night. With your little one i'm sure you'll want tons of photos of her with the characters.

We had a 1 GB and a 512 memory cards. We uploaded twice, I think. We ended up with around 700 pictures. It was not my first trip, but my kids first.

Wow, you guys make me feel so much better. I thought I took wayyyy too many pictures at Disney - last trip I was close to 400 and I made 85 scrapbook pages, which needed two big full albums.
I can't see how 1G wouldn't be enough as well as having the other memory cards. I plan on bringing less memory cards than that and I had enough last trip.
Happy Picture Taking! :wizard:

Our last trip we took about 4000, plust about 200 photopass.
Here is my advice, we had two cares, you can make a cd in the parks, they will do it for you, it took about 10 minutes, and I wish we had done it more than we did, we only did it once. Long story short, we got home, I was very overwhelmed by pictures, between photopass, one CD disney burned for us, two full cards, and we traveled with friends who took just as many, I was overwhelmed. We took on memory card to CVS to put on a cd (just got digital, and we were having a hard time doing it on our computer), THEY LOST IT!!!!!!!! Over 1000 pictures, GONE! Including two out of my three girls REAL birthdays celebrated down at disney, GONE FOREVER!! I still cry about it, so PLEASE, be careful, I would hate for someone else to ever have that happen to them. I will always put them directly on my computer, or have disney make CDs while we are there, one of those things I will regret forever!

OK, call me dumb, but what is photopass?
addicted_to_WDW
02-28-2007, 07:54 AM
Photopass is a little card you get the first time you get your pic taken by a WDW photographer. They are EVERYWHERE these days. Any time you get a pic taken you give them the pass. You can view them from home online or at the parks. You can buy a CD of all of your pics for something like $120 or $130, or order them individually for $13 a piece.
This is going to sound more harsh than I intend, but for the people who take thousands of pics on a trip...are you really living in and experiencing the moment if your whole trip is spent trying to capture every detail for posterity?
macmahony
02-28-2007, 08:23 AM
yes, we 100% live in the moment, my husband and I both love taking pictures, we almost never use the video camera, we would both rather the still, with digital, we take many many more pictures than we used to. We take pictures of everything, and every moment, even at home.
We were outside in the snow yesterday and blew over 150 pictures in a hour.
And really, if for you that is not living in the moment, don't do it, but do you really care what we do on vacation.
We were there over 2 weeks, I think 4000 is not a lot, and there are points where I wish we had taken more

Nope, I don't. It was a question and you don't have to get snotty.

Well...we went on a 12 day trip, and took 1743 pictures, plus the 326 that came on my Photopass cd. :)
I'm a scrapbooker and it was our first family vacation.
I also had a laptop with me that I used to upload our pictures to nightly.

Chances are it is

I take pictures all the time, so my family is used to a quick pose here and there, and I took a lot of candid shots, too. We also had 2 cameras. (I still can't give up my film :) ) I have friends that take just a few pictures, and some that take even more than me. I have to say I am good at getting a quick shot when nobody else even knows I am taking a picture. My kids also asked for pictures of specific things because they love to look at the pictures and scrapbooks later. So, I think we all enjoyed the magic while taking lots of pictures to help remember it.:goodvibes

I'm not going to fight with you macmahony. I asked a question and you took offense. It happens and I'm not going to worry about it.
For everyone else - I asked the question for this reason. My son is in a performing arts school and we go to a ton of performances every year. DH and I take turns filming them, because we've found that when you are filming you really aren't taking in the entire show. I've missed so much when it is my turn to film, and you can't get that initial experience back.

I think you have a legitimate question, and people ask me all the time how I can take so many pictures. I have found there is a big difference between taking lots of videos and snapshots. I agree, I hate to be behind the video camera because you can't enjoy what you are watcing, but I don't find that with a still camera. Hope this helps!

I actually love photopass for this reason. We all pose and we're outta there.
belle&beast - I love quick snapshots too. My favorite pictures of DS are the ones I take when he is completely unaware of the camera.

Just for what it worth, I did not take offense, but when you start a sentence with
This might sound harsh,
well, then maybe you should not say it
I don't care what you think, we take lots of pictures, not just at disney EVERYWHERE, where one person might take one shot we take 15, out entire house if filled with picture of our girls, going up our stairs, we have over 100 shots framed and on the wall, we are picture people, but I really don't care if you know that or not.
But, I also stated, we don't do video, we don't like it, we don't like being stuck to a video camera, we don't enjoy it, cameras to us do not give us that feeling. We might take 30 shots riding just dumbo, waiting in line, the girls watching a parade, but I have never felt like I missed something because we used the camera. I have said it a million times, I get home, and look at the pictures, and wish we had taken more, and that is not just at disney that is everywhere.

macmahony, you must have a great camera! Last time I went to WDW I stopped taking pictures because my son's martial arts teacher was getting alot and told me he would burn a disc for me. He took over 4000 pics. in 3 days! The disc I got so far only has a few hours of epcot on it! I snap alot of pics. but only print out the best ones so about 300 each trip. If I get a better camera I'd probably take alot more! :goodvibes

My family and I just went down to Disneyland for 3 days. I carried both my video camera and digital camera with me and took about 350 pictures and 2 hours of video. It was so much fun! You can see a quick highlight of our trip here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTunwPXx9sU

we do not print them all, but probably at least half of them. I love our camera, we went to use it at christmas and it was not working! We had to use our video, which we hate! Thankfully, we got the warranty, and now it is fixed.
We don't have one with different lens, maybe some day, but the people we travel with do, and I don't know if I would want to travel with one, it was a lot to carry around, a lot to deal with. We have a very high end, as large a zoom as it comes digital (probably outdated now at 2 years old!)
I was so devestated when it was not working, I love it, and was sad to think I might have to get a new one!
We also take pictures of very silly mundane things, maybe some day I will eventually scrapbook!

I average 140+ per day. I usually carry a minimum of 10GB worth of memory, and won't delete anything until I can download it and check it on my 24" monitor. You'd be surprised how many shots I would have instantly dismissed as trash wind up getting recycled in one form or another and turn into keepers...

I took about 100 per day on my last trip and downloaded the cards each night to my laptop.
ETA: be sure to get pics of your family/friends. When I look back at my pictures, I skip most of the ones that don't have one of us in it.

I guess I'll just wing it and see. I may forget to get the camera out at times too.

All four of the parks have some sort of camera store, we only used the one in MGM, it is right as you walk in, by the stoller rental.
We were out of room on both cards, we gave them one, waited about 10 minutes, and they burned a cd right there for us. Then we cleared the card.
If you run out of room on the card you can always do that, I don't remember exactly what we paid for it, but it was not expensive at all.

We usually take between 400-600, each night I download them to the laptop & make a back up cd, never can be to safe! You can purchase your entire photopass. It was $99, the price increased to somewhere around $125.00 in January.

I have a question about the photopass...I understand how it works but where are these photographers stationed? Would I be getting a variety of pictures or just posed pictures with different backgrounds? I'm confused? Someone said they had over 300 pics on their photo pass...of what? Do they take pictures of you on rides? Meeting characters?
Sorry for my ignorance on this.:confused3

In January 2006, the Photopass photographers were everywhere! They were always at the entrances of the parks and with the characters. We also got some really great nighttime shots, they were taking pictures with Cinderella's Castle and Spaceship Earth in the background at night. We did have over 300 pictures on ours- it was easy to do!

So do they just come up to you and ask if you want your picture taken? And then they give you a card? Do they scan the card or something to keep yours all together? And then you can view them after you get home? I have never done this, or even heard of it a Disney before. I know other amusement type parks do it, but usually it was just one picture when you are walking in.

Yes, they will approach you and you may approach them. They will give you a card and then the next photographer will scan it when they take your picture. You can use the same card for your entire trip. If you would happen to forget it, you can get a new one and when you order use both (or as many as you have) cards. I just kept the Photopass card handy and used one for the entire trip.
You view them online when you get home and you can order the CD of all the pictures and any enhancements you have made, or individual prints. When we were there last January, you had to do it all before you left at the camera shops. That has changed and I believe they prefer you do this at home because of the amount of time it takes.

We took 800 on our last trip in 05. It was way to many. I still haven't printed them all :headache: and we leave again at the end of this month. They are all on a disc though;) . We got a memory card that would hold like 1200 pictures so we didn't have to worry about running out of room:goodvibes . I do know this time we won't have to take so many :cool1: because you only need so many pictures of the castle and the ball at Epcot. I will focus my attention on pictures of us and not so much the extrainious (sp :confused3 ) stuff.

But seriously, DH & I took our labtop down and downloaded our photos off the camera every day (maybe 2 times a day) Our camera holds 100 pictures with this memory card we have now....Our trip was 7 days...So I would say we took over 1000 pictures... (I know that we'd take more with kiddos as well!)

I have a 6mp camera and just bough a 2gb memory card...its a new camera so I have no idea how many pics I'll get. I am thinking that I will bring my laptop and just dump my pics onto my computer each night just in case. With my family of 8 (6 kids plus DH and I) and my sis and her DH and my niece all going together, I am sure I'll be taking a LOT of pics. We leave for WDW on Friday..I'll repost when we get back of how many photos we took.
