No problem at all. I don't know where a Mickey hockey is, though. You could do a google image search. Don't forget to let me know you're kids' ages for the SoH graphic. Gotta run... at work.... catch you later.

Can someone tell me what GTY is? I keep seeing people talk about it here and am just curious what that is.:confused3

Also, do we need a passport for ourselves and our kids for each time we get off the ship or is a photocopy of it ok. It is just unnerving to drag around a passport when you are going to be on a beach and not necessarily watching your bag all the time.:scared1:

I got my baggage tags from DCL today. I thought the package was going to be a little more exciting than that but still it is cool!

I can't believe how close it is now!

Re: Passports: You leave the ship with your KTTW card and your photo ID, usually your driver's license. We leave our passports locked up in the room safe the entire trip and carry a photocopy of the passport with us to the beach. This was recommended to us by a CM on our last cruise. In the event of an emergency and needing your passports..ie to fly home from a foreign country etc..more than likely someone in your party would be able to return to the ship to collect the passports and belongings etc.

Re: GTY means guarantee. When you book a GTY cabin...lets say a GTY 12..you are guaranteed at least a cat 12 or better but paying the cost of the GTY cabin. So if you book a GTY 10, you are guaranteed at least a cat 10, but you may end up better than a 10 with only paying for a 10.

Hi all! Feel better Gina!

Thanks Michelle,
Not to beat a dead horse but does your response mean that a photocopy of the kids passport and their KTTW card is enough to leave the ship, (seeing as of course they don't have other photo id besides their passport? And should I photocopy the passports in color or does that matter?

And why wouldn't everyone book GTY then? Wouldn't you want to hope for a possible up-grade or do people just want the room that they research and book?

Thanks again,
Angie:flower3:

Angie: No dead horse here and no worries about asking questions, we were all a first timer at one time! Emily just had her KTTW card..no photo ID. I did not copy the passport in color nor did I use it at all while we were away. No one asks for it and it really is just a safety net so to speak. Here is another passport tip: Leave a copy of them with a relative at home or wherever as well so in case it needs to be referenced by someone at home. Now as I am typing this, this just occured to me..you guys are from Canada, right? Well, that is just a whole other ball of wax. Non-US citizens must hand over their passports for the duration of the cruise. It is a requirement. There is a thread on the main cruise board regarding this..you may have to dig deep for it though. Connie (from Germany) might know more info on this subject. Paging Connie....Connie to the board please!

As far as the GTY goes, I believe that there are only a certain number of cabins that go as a GTY. Having cabins as a GTY allows the ship to shuffle cabins around as they see fit..that is how some people end up with an free upgrade. If you go with a GTY cabin, from what I have read here on the DIS, experienced cruisers say that you MUST be happy with your GTY cabin category..because there are no promises that you will get an upgrade...just hopeful wishes...just like Karen (Daisy) said in her post and is hoping right now!

Hope this helps.

Okay, who has started packing? Me, I am still dieting...last ditch effort...no big promises here...I have endocrine/hormonal issues and some meds I am on basically help me hit a wall when it comes to losing weight. I have put off shopping...Not happy with the way I look, not happy with my clothes etc..but the meds are necessary..so what is a girl to do?

Belated Easter wishes to all...and a very happy Spring...we just counted that we have 17 days left of school before we leave...that is SO do-able!

Thanks Michelle!

Good luck with the diet. I can't believe I didn't lose 1 pound for this trip but I have worked out every day and I think that I look better in a bathing suit. Us girls are so hard on ourselves but it is true that when we feel we look better we feel better and are more happy.

Cheryl! We are also a family of four that is why I am confused. I think I did see that there are some cat 12 cabins that sleep 4? We are also deck 6 forward so we may be neighbors unless an upgrade is still pending. Last time we cruised deck 5 forward just below where we are now and it was fine. The only problem was music/noice from the theatre below, now we won't be directly above the theatre anyway.
Thanks for the info, I'm feeling like the family of four thing may give me hope.

Karen:wizard:

Karen,
that is most likely your cabin, before that did it say gty??

We have our cabin now too (we booked a gty 12), but we are a family of 4 so we get an cat 11 or higher. but what stinks about our
cabin is we are very forward on deck 6 hope we don't get a little wavey at night .

we always get ourselves an inside cabin, we very rarely do gty though. we do 2 cruises a year so the money we save from an inside we apply it to the next cruise.

Sorry Cheryl, I'm looking at the map of the ship. We are in a cat 11, we are probably stuck there. I just saw a post in the general section from someone who turned down a cat 9 on deck one because they prefer deck 6, so that's good.
thanks for the info.

I know... pride goeth before the fall... but we're taking an excursion to Hell anyway so I might as well. :rotfl2:

Michelle,

I haven't started packing but there's a pile of cruise stuff over by the fireplace. Yes, we do have those in Fla although it doesn't get used near as much as I'd like. Of course, you know King Charming... he doesn't do anything halfway. When my darling builds a fire he builds a bonfire! Kind of hard to see the flames at first becuase the wood is piled up to the top of the fireplace. But then again, when the wood burns down and the fire is dancing in the embers it's absolutely beautiful!!!!

I gave up on the dieting thing for now. Haven't had time to make it to the gym (I blame the necessary re-do of my website). So I'm gonna be fat and happy in my ball gown that was altered to fit me real well for the way I look right now. And I'm gonna eat and eat and eat (yes, and drink) on the ship. Then I'll worry about the diet when I get home. You just take those meds and remember that it's not what you look like that we love but your wonderful self! Now, let's go get some Bahama Mamas, whether we walk or not :rotfl2:

Hi everybody.
Finally the snow is gone at last.I donīt want to see any more of that.

On our last 2 cruises we had to surrender our passports at check-in and got them back the last morning. All non-US citizens had to report at 6 oīclock:scared: at the Buena Vista Theater for Immigration.
BUT-I read somewhere that they changed that and you go through Immigration when you leave the ship with your luggage. It was on a trial basis and I donīt know what they currently do.
It certainly helps to have a second ID with photo.

I got our docs yesterday and have to admit I started packing, but only a little bit.Had to get me into vacation mood.:dance3:

Bye from Germany

I had to laugh when I read KC's trip report about the pile of "cruise stuff" as I have one too. Anybodyelse? I am panicking as my lists keep getting longer instead of shorter. Does anyone know where to get the biosafe sunscreen-for the dolphin swim?

Dieting-uggh-don't go there, in the same boat as everyone.

We received our cruise docs Monday-they were left at our front door so I don't know if the post office delivered it or not. Good thing my daughter was home, since we really don't use that door. I would have been panicking that they didn't come and they would have been sitting there the whole time.

I guess it is now crunch time for shopping and packing. Eperienced cruisers please keep posting your packing tips-they are very helpful. The next 3 weeks are going to go fast.

I am going to go to bob's store this week-end to buy some shorts since someone on my family put on a little weight over the winter....who me:rolleyes1 ???? I did buy a bathing suit that was a very, very scary sight:scared1: .
My family this weekend will be picking out what they want to wear for the cruise. This will give me enough time to iron or send it out to get dry cleaned. I hate last minute stuff so packing will be done way a head of time:thumbsup2

We got our document package today, too. :cool1: And yes, I have started packing. We have a spare room, so that has become "Vacation Central". The suitcases are all open on the floor - what a mess. It's no problem for us to set clothing aside since it's still very much WINTER here (snow again last night, Denise!). Nothing that's going in those suitcases is needed at home right now!

I am such a horrible packer - you know that old saying, pack what you think you need and then take a third of it out? Well I pack what I think we'll need and then add more and more and more. I ordered a new bathing suit for me from L.L.Bean last night - and bought all kinds of cute summery clothes for the girls last weekend. My husband has been very sick with the nasty flu that turned to pneumonia  - he missed a full week of work which is absolutley unheard of for him. He's feeling better this week, but I think he needs some nice sunshine to fully cure him. Vacation can't come too soon!

Be careful when packing. Last Cruise one of my bags had the Cruise line tag ripped off. It was found and sent to meet us in Key West but, I learned a lesson. We now pack clothes for each of us in each bag. The cruise line bought me a $100 worth of clothes, which was nice, but not enough. My wife hates putting a few clothes in each bag for everyone. Its more work, packing and unpacking but, $100 didn't buy a whole lot for two days. If I remember correctly, I think the Ralph Lauren under ware they had was $25 for 3 pairs.

Just some additional info. Did everyone know that Disney has clothes on sale everyday in every store (on the cruise and the parks) You can ask for help and they will show you the list. Nice stuff, Cheap! :yay:

Hi everyone

We just got our cruise docs today - how exciting! We also got assigned our 2nd cabin - room #2046. So both cabins are on the 2nd deck - mid ship and back of the ship. When do we find out our dinner rotation? Experienced cruisers - we have late dinner seating - are there diff't times for late dinner or just one?

Can't wait - a little over 3 week. YEAHHHHH!

Wish we had snow. Only one small storm here. We were supposed to go skiing in Vermont this weekend and decided not to-bad decision as they got a lot of snow.

I pack like you-adding things. Usually I don't worry too much, because I always figure I can run to the store-have been in lots of Kmarts and Walgreens. I feel like I will be stranded on the cruise.

Hope your husband is better and doesn't share .

Okay, no docs here in the midwest. I'm not worried yet but will start stressing soon. We never got our book that had the information on the excursions so I had to just read online. No big deal. I called and made sure they had our new address and they do. We've received other documents. When should I call to make sure they've been sent? Hopefully they'll be here soon.

Hey guys,

I'm hoping one of you can find this. I know I've seen it but I just can't find it right now. I know there's an emergency phone number I can give my family/friends in case they need to get ahold of me. But I can't find it right now. Anyone got an idea of what it is? Thanks!

Oh, and one more question. Folks recommend taking a color copy of your passport on excursions and leaving the real one in the safe. Why color? Why wouldn't a black and white work? Thanks!!!!

1-888-DC-AT-SEA or 1-888-322-8732 remember it is $7.00 a minute. You may want to bring your cell. I used my phone and my cell phone service charges $3.95 per min. Each cell service is different. If you turn you cell phone on or leave it on while we are at sea incoming messages will come through at the high rate so watch out! Usually in port the rates are lower so check before you leave what you cell phone service charges.

I have always left my passport in the safe. I never even brought a copy off the ship with me. Currently to get back on the ship adults need a picture ID and everyone will need their "Key to the World" card

I got half of our group documents today.

We went with cruiselineformal, online or at 18005515091. Classic black tux, w/ accessories, listed at 85, actual cost 87.50. So many advantages with these guys. Delivered, already pressed, on board tailor to fix mistakes, turn it in to your cabin attendant (no late fees), and all 3 of us will match. There might be others, but I was real happy with them (so far). You will need to know sizes; neck, sleeve length, coat size, waist, pant length. I think they want two weeks notice, so hurry...

Just to add to this..... King Charming took the rugrats (guess teenagers are getting too large to call rugrats.... what's next after that?) Anyway, he took them to a local tux shop to get measured. Told them it was for an out of town rental. Just in case that helps someone... becuase I know if he'd asked me to measure them I'd'a looked at him like "yeah, right!" Computer stuff and such I'm marginally good at ... Susie Homemaker stuff is out, out, out! :rotfl2: :rotfl: Hope that helps someone.

I think we all just need that Carribean sunshine as a first drug of choice! :sunny: :sunny:

That and a few Bahama Mamas, Coronas or whatever your choice may be is what we ALL need right about now!
I like to think that 3 weeks from tomorrow we fly to Florida! For some of you it must be even sooner.

Welcome back, Justhat - we missed you! Hope the kids are well.

And I haven't made the first t-shirt. And then there's the Fish Extender. Just have to find time to do it all. Ugh!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :confused3

And, since it's your birthday and all, :cake: I'd be happy to do your hair for you on Formal Night.

Hey there... quick question since you know how feminine I am (NOT!). What do I need to bring? Anything besides a comb, bobby pins and hair spray? Of course, the tiara. But anything else needed to do the Cinderella hairdo? BTW, thanks a billion for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bobby pins and hairspray will do it. I'll have a curling iron with me. Go to Wal-Mart and buy some "TRESemme" brand hairspray. It comes in a black can and is cheap - under $4.00 for sure. Buy the "extra extra hold" variety (or whatever sounds like that). We buy it every year for doing hair for the dance recital and we refer to it as "lacquer". Your hair will stay in for the evening- guaranteed! I know this hairspray will be an un-budgeted for expense (Hi there, King Charming! :) ) but it's at least $60.00 cheaper than going to the salon on the ship!

We'll have a fun afternooon creating your Cinderella 'do. Are you eating late or early seating?

Thanks,:woohoo:

On my past Disney cruises I have seen very few men even wearing tuxes. Unless it is something you really want to do - I wouldn't worry about.
There are the few who wear what I would call traditional formal. You will see a few women in gowns but most just have on a nice dress. I see more people wearing what I would call semi-formal attire and yes you will even see people wearing jogging suits to dinner on formal night.

Hey everyone - I miss you guys! :lovestruc

I still don't have a computer

I got my cruise documents yesterday! :cool1:

I started to somewhat pack. I took out the stuff I bought after last years season and tried it on. I kept putting it off thinking maybe it wouldn't fit. It did! :thumbsup2 I've been buying here and there t-shirts for day. I just feel like I'm going to have too much stuff! Between day wear, night wear and shoe wear. I only wanted to bring two suitcases. I don't know how I'm going to fit this all in! :scared1: Walmart had good deals on sunscreen - 2 packs for, I think, $8.

Oh, the dreaded diet! Well, I haven't really gained or loss. I guess that's good. I don't think I'm going to reach my goal. :sad2: I'm going to be about 2lbs. off. I too stopped going to the gym. If it ever gets nice around here, I'll start walking.

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Definitely will get it. I'll be at Walmart tonight so I can get it then. I just went yesterday but KC's taking the kids to pick out their ties tonight. And I'm going along -- not to help with the ties.. they know what color my dress is and can go from there. But I can't pass up an opportunity to go to Walmart. See what my darling King Charming has to deal with sometimes? :cool1:

We'll have a fun afternooon creating your Cinderella 'do. Are you eating late or early seating?

I think I have late seating. But I believe we're going to try to be ready an hour early (or even earlier is totally fine with me) since we want to leave plenty, plenty, plenty of time for pictures. Do you have early or late? Besides, once the hair is lacquered up, I'll be good to go. Oh, I'm going to bring a bottle of wine for us to share while doing this. What kind do you like? Don't tell KC... it's another unplanned expense but still cheaper than going to the salon. :rotfl2:

It's actually nice to know I'm not the only one who REALLY needs a DRINK!!! ..... I also can't wait to meet everyone!!

Um, no... you're definitely not the only one. I was talking to my mom yesterday about having bought the motion sickness stuff and it said to limit alcohol while taking. So, of course, I asked the pharmicist about it. He said wait at least 8 hours after taking the motion sickness pill before drinking. So I figure I'll take it in the evening before bed and start drinking in the morning. Mom couldn't believe I was going to drink all day (um.... how the heck do you know me for 41 years and not know that when I'm on vacation I dranks!!???). I told her out of respect for her I'd have at least one "clean" cup of coffee before I started adding Baileys to it in the morning.

My wife is finishing making Fish Extenders. She had bought enough fabric to make multiple. If anyone is interested... $17.00 shipped.

Hey, that's really sweet dude. But I already have the material and so if I don't get off my big, fat, lazy butt and get the thing made, I'm going to have that material staring me in the face all the time, laughing at me. But I really appreciate it.

Just think.... in thre weeks I'll be sitting here at the computer and not posting to this board becuase I know most everyone will be on their way. Let's see...it's 4:38 now so I don't know if I'll be up yet in 3 weeks but I won't be far from getting up. King Charming will have about 3 hours from now to get the dogs to the kennel while I finish the last of the packing and then we'll hit the road and head on down. I know we won't be able to get into the hotel for a few hours but at least vacation will be started.

OK, OK, before everyone starts looking for "Friends of Bill W" meetings for me to go to on the ship, I just want to say that I was inquiring becuase I saw that posted several months ago. I thought pitchers of drinks would be very fun to have at our meet, you know to sort of get the "BahamaMamas" off to the right kind of start and all! :rotfl: Didn't get too much of a response when I posted it, we'll just have to investigate for ourselves. (It's just the right thing to do for our fellow Dissers )

I am home from school today - yet ANOTHER snow day! :sad1:

For Palo -At dinner, dress shirt or jacket are required for men; a dress or pantsuit for women. At brunch and high tea attire is "cruise casual" — no shorts, swimwear or tank tops.

At dinner in the main dinning room you will see people wear all different types of clothing.

Hi all,

We're trying to put together a general hour by hour plan for the week of the cruise. I know we have 2nd dinner seating so that'll be between 8 and 8:30 so I'm blocking out 8-10 for dinner every night. But breakfast and lunch -- do we have assigned seating for that? I don't remember seeing that but then again, if we don't, how do they make sure that the folks that sit at our table for early dinner seating don't show up at the same time as we do for breakfast and lunch? How does that work? I know... stupid questions but I'm being hyper again :rotfl2:

I'm with you - we'll have 5 bags, too. One each for me and the girls to pull along and 2 for DH. I really can't figure out how to do it with any less. We each need 9 days of clothing - multiple outfits/shoes for most days, swimsuits and other beach/pool thing, toiletries, dress up clothing, all the stuff I'm convinced we must have for the cabin, the list goes on and on! I do pack one bag with everyone's toiletries, pajamas and outfit for Saturday so we don't have to open up every single suitcase on Saturday morning, then I'll do the same when we leave the ship since we're not flying home until Sunday.

I'm open to suggestions if anyone can tell me how to reduce! :confused3

You only sit at "your " table for dinner. Breakfast and lunch are served in Topsiders (buffet) which is open seating or in one of the dining rooms if you want a more leisurely meal. You can also eat up on the pool deck and the"fast food" type places for lunch. If you want to eat breakfast or lunch in the dining room, you are seated as you arrive. You will not be at your assigned table, and more than likely you'll be seated at a table with other people. We've had some very nice meals and conversations with peole we've met at breakfast and lunch.

These aren't stupid questions at all - they're asked every day on the main boards - you just got to ask your friends the questions! :grouphug:

Hey there all....

Just found something in my Passporter newsletter I thought I'd share with everyone. Many of you returning cruisers might know this but it was news to me so I thought I'd share.

SPLENDID SHOWERS
"As a cruise passenger, you have complimentary use of the on board fitness center, but you don't have to be workout junkie to enjoy the facilities! While most staterooms have split bathrooms, they don't have more than one shower. If you are running late for that reservation at Palo because your significant other is taking too long in the shower (or you just want to indulge yourself), you can use the showers in the fitness center/spa. These are not your typical health club communal showers... These are the finest showers traveling the seven seas! The water pressure is much better than in the staterooms, and there is a lot more room. The men's locker room attendant on the Wonder advised me to use the shower on the far right, with the waterfall spout. It was the best shower of my life! I will go back at least once on every future cruise! Make sure to get a locker as they come stocked with flip flops and a bathrobe."

I have not even started thinking about packing. We are very light packers. :confused3

3 pairs of shoes per person, 1 garment bag with dress clothes, and 2 suitcases (1 for DH & I, 1 for the 2 kids). Plus each kid brings a backpack on the plane with their "stuff" (i-pods, DS's, books, etc.) and DH carries on 1 small bag. We also pack a backpack that is empty for goodies we buy. :thumbsup2

Dont overpack! I always read on the boards, "pack your bags, and then take half of the stuff out". That seems to make sense.

My SIL just finshed chemo and radiation for breast cancer, but like your GF it had not spread, so the outlook is very good. It's amazing (and sad) how everyone has been touched by cancer of some sort......

We have Palo on Tuesday too, and I agree that it's the only night we're willing to miss the main dining room. I guess I really don't care if we do happen to be in AP and miss the "show" , but it's the first DCL cruise for the friends that we are traveling with so I'm not sure how they'll feel about it. My DDs will take their young kids to dinner while we go to Palo, so maybe that will be OK. Of course, maybe we won't be in AP at all that night!

And Denise, Don't you think that thread about Post Cruise Depression is a bit over the top??? I'm always sad when any vacation is over, but come on now.... not being able to go to work you're so sad that the cruise is over???:confused3 That woman should have figured out that the faster she gets herself back to work to make some money the faster she can book another cruise!

You won't need any incentive. Once he gets on that ship and has the best week of his life, he'll be BEGGING you to get him back on ASAP ! And, as he has already pointed out in his PTR, the "up front/one time" charges won't be needed for your second cruise. In fact, those expenses will actually factor out to be even less expensive when they're spread out over 2 (or more) cruises. I use this argument with airfare all the time. If it costs $300.00 pp to fly to Florida (reasonable from Boston) and you stay only for 3 days, then that cost was $100.00 per day. But...... if you stay for 10 days then your airfare only cost you $30.00 per day. See how it works......:cool1: You almost have to book another cruise so it will help out with those one time purchases you had to make!

I do love your reasoning!!!!! :-)

Hey, quick question. I know they have steak and lobster at the adult beach on Castaway Cay. But is there lobster for any of the dinners in the restaurants? DS14 would like lobster and asked me if they have it can he have some. I told him he could have anything he likes that they serve for dinner but now I'd like to know if they have lobster so I can tell him. Thanks.

MassDisLovers

They have lobster tails one of the nights. I can't remember of it's Formal Night (Monday) or the Captain's Gala (semi-formal / Thursday), but it's one of them and I'm pretty sure it's Thursday. Remember that he can order as much lobster as he wants that night. If your server knows one or more of you like (love) lobster he/she will bring you a lot extra. It's not Maine lobster like we northeners are used to, but it' still good.

There's not always lobster at CC - one time we were told that it depends on how much is left over. If they don't have enough after the evening serving they won't serve it on CC (that's why I think it's Thursday night). When that happens the crew gets the already cooked lobster tails at the end of the night so he said they always hope that the chef makes the decision that there isn't enough to be served on CC!

Bummer... makes it hard to plan for on the timeline, but I guess it is what it is and we'll just have to deal with it :-) But that means it's either Monday or Thursday, right? So I can just put it on both and whatever day it isn't, we'll sleep in :cool1: But I just thought of something else. What time(s?) are the character b'fasts done? Just need to know where to put it in the timeline. Thanks.

You two also said you didn't mind missing Tuesday dinner???
Did you mean missing just one dinner?
Or is Tuesday dinner something special?

We had a very busy weekend, Stephen our son had his roller hockey
play ~offs not just on Saturday but on sunday morning as well :scared:Yes, we won both games now for the next round :cool1: . so I was determened to get some of the cruise organizing/buying out of the way so I am not a basket case the day before the cruise :rotfl: ...who me :confused3

right after his game I had my whole family pick out all their clothes for the trip on saturday, they did it day by day and of course they are all in our bedroom what a
mess :scared1: we brought a card table to hold some of the piles. got a lot of ironing to do:sad2: . However, some of the clothes i am going to let disney press for me its cheaper than my cleaners in town. :thumbsup2

went shopping on sunday...and boy did we buy clothes, we really didn't even need that much to buy:rotfl2: oh well, macys and lord & taylors are happy:lmao: .

still no docs today :confused3 i'm going to call my ta in the morning and ask her if she has them and if they are ready I will pick them up.

Hi all,

Not long now!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

Quick question for you. Since we now have these rolling coolers (found a really cool one at Walmart for only $20) are we allowed to roll them up to the pool with a few beers in them and just sit and enjoy them all afternoon? Or must they, as I suspect, stay in the stateroom?

Good morning...

I have a rolling cooler too. I am not going to bring my rollercooler to the pool, because we have a smaller one that might hold 4 bottles of beer/water we tend to purchase those special drinks on the ship:rolleyes1 & of course I won't drink too many :rotfl2:

since this is my 1st disney cruise :goodvibes I don't know if there would be enough room for the cooler maybe someone else who has been on this cruise could answer this. But, I have been on other cruise lines and sometimes they really cram the chairs in & you wouldn't have any room to put a rolling cooler. hth

MassDisLovers & Denise: Thanks for the well wishes for my GF. She had her 1st dose yesterday and did well.:thumbsup2

As for the rolling coolers at the pool. I have personally never brought a rolling cooler onboard, however I can verify that the chairs are squeezed in tight around the pools. There is barely enough room to put your legs to the side. It is good if you are out of the sun at a full table, but if you want to sit in the sun and drink a beer you should try going to the deck 7 "hidden" spot.
One of those fun little "secrets" is the Deck 7 aft verandah and Deck 8 aft overlook. These areas are rarely crowded and offer some nice relaxation.
If you want to see pics, just go to castawayclub dot com. I cannot put the actual address here because they will remove it. :confused3

Thanks for the answers on the rolling cooler. A smaller carrying cooler is a great idea and I already have one of those so it won't be another expenditure (see KC... I do think of you :rotfl2: )

Going out to the aft spots on decks 7 and 8 also is a great idea!!! I have a feeling we might spend a bit of time out there, eh, KC? :cool1:

Just heard this from DCL:
Disney Cruise Line

Corking Fee Increase

Effective immediately, Guests who request a Wine Steward to open and serve a bottle of champagne, wine or liquor brought onboard one of the Disney Cruise Line ships will be charged $18 per bottle (previously, the corking fee was $15 per bottle). Also, if a Guest opens a bottle in their stateroom and brings it into one of the dining rooms, they will still be charged the corking fee.

Policy for Bringing Alcohol/Beverages Onboard

It has been brought to our attention that there is some confusion about the Disney Cruise LineŪ policy on bringing alcohol/beverages onboard the ships. Disney Cruise Line does not prohibit Guests from bringing alcohol/beverages onboard, however, please be aware that any fragile items and beverages must be hand carried onboard in a day bag and/or carry-on (which cannot exceed 22” wide, 14” high and 9” deep). Please note that beverage coolers are not permitted onboard (they cannot be checked in or hand carried).

No. But I'm planning on bringing a bit of foreign currency back, if just for scrapbooking. I'm also planning on checking the exchange rate before I go just so I can keep track of how much things really cost before committing to a purchase. I just checked and $1US equals $10.624 pesos. So if I see something that I like that's 100 pesos it'd be nice to know we're really talking about less than $10.

Of course, in Grand Cayman I'll have to be careful. $1USD equals $0.82KYD so something that I think is $8.20 will actually be $10.

Also good to know.

We do the wine package on DCL cruises.

There were two different package-one "regular" and one "premium" wines.

You chose your package and charge it to your KTTW-you have 7 bottles (one for each night presumably) - if you don't finish it your server will put it away until the next night (or whenever you ask for it they will being it).

We find it easier since we always have wine with dinner anyway.
Also not a bad idea to split the package between 2 couples.

Hi all,

Since we bought the cooler at Walmart the other day, I've been concerned today about the whole cooler and carry-on issue. I asked Shirley (have y'all met Shirley? She's the one that started the "Helpful Information for You" thread and if you haven't seen that thread you need to check the DCL forum for it becuase it's amazing). Anyway....... I double-checked with her. Now I still need to check the dimensions in my documentation from Disney, but I believe my cooler's going to work. Just wanted to share with you guys in case you were in a tizzy about this like I was.

Anyway... here's what Shirley said:

Or are they still allowed as long as the size limitation is met? I'm just so confused. If I need to take this cooler back to Walmart and get a regular carry-on type suitcase I can do that.

Like I said... hope I'm not ticking you off. Just really want to understand. Maybe I'm just being stupid or my stupid crazy day around here is making me stupid, but I'm still confused.

OK lets take a step back AND NO YOU ARE NOT TICKING ME OFF SWEETIE HONEST NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

- ALL SOFT SIDED COOLERS WILL BE ALLOWED IF AND I MEAN IF THEY ARE THE ONES THAT CAN PASS THE XRAY MACHINES AT THE AIRPORT. You are allowed to bring beer, wine, sodas, water (NO FOOD) in your carryon so if you have this type of soft sided cooler, you will be fine - you are NOT allowed the hard kind and that will be disallowed - you will be just fine with what you have. hope you now can relax and enjoy getting ready for your awesome cruise
As always

How do you know what time you're eating yet? I know we're late seating but I don't know what our rotation is yet so I don't know what time. At least if I'm understanding it I don't. Maybe I'm not "getting" something.

Almost finished my fish extender. Just have to paint the wood black and put it all together. I'll try to post a picture of it when we're done. At least with all the magnets that you guys have already seen and a picture of the FE, you won't have any problem finding us :rotfl2:

Oh, and I just thought of another dumb question. I wonder how I'm going to get this dress down there? Guess I'll have to go to Goodwill and get a garment bag. And the crinolin will transport in a bag (although it'll take up a goodly amount of suitcase). Well, at least we each get one carry on and one suitcase, right? So that's 8 bags that I can start moving stuff between. Think I'm going to start packing this weekend. Hard to do, though, becuase I'm still going to have to wash a lot of what we're wearing since it's been so warm (85 degrees today). I'm getting soooooo excited!!!! And after the past couple of days at work, I'm so ready for this. I was walking by someone's office today and "Some Beach" was on and as I walked by, Blake sang "there's a big umbrella casting shade over an empty chair" and I gave that line a big ol' AMEN!!!!

I have a question.....I don't want to get in anyone's finances but I was just wondering how much cash I should bring. My husband says we should bring $1000 in cash. I'm not really comfortable with that. Do we really need that much? Is anyone bringing Travelor's Checks? I know the cruise is cashless but we do need cash for excursions and tipping. Anything else we need cash for?

Thanks.

Joan

That's about what we usually bring, too. If we have a lot left over we go put it on our onboard account on Thursday (the last sea day) to offset the ultimate charges that will be posted to the credit card. If your excursions are through Disney, they'll be on the account , if they're private, you'll need cash to pay for them. You need cash anytime you're on an island (except Castaway Cay) - excursions, taxis, food, souveniers, etc. You also need to budget for tips, either cash or they can be charged to your account . They give you a small stub to put in the envelope when you charge your tips. We usually charge them and then add cash if we want to give more than the recommended amount. Everything you buy on the ship- drinks, Palo, shopping - everything- is charged to your onboard account. I know $1,000.00 sounds like a lot of money, but it does go quickly (sorry King Charming!)

How do you know what time you're eating yet? I know we're late seating but I don't know what our rotation is yet so I don't know what time. At least if I'm understanding it I don't. Maybe I'm not "getting" something.

If I tell you, then I'd have to kill you! No, just kidding.;) Michelle and I have dinnner reservations that are linked. One of her family members is a travel agent and, I think, told her when our eating time is, some how. You know, sorry, that's just privledged information. :lmao:

Do you leave the cash in your safe and just take out what you think you will need at each port?

Yes it does go quick. I've been practicing my regal wrist twist so I can wave goodbye to it as it leaves. :rotfl: I don't think we will bring quite that much cash since most everything will be charged to the ship board account for both depression and accounting purposes. The on shore shops can either take plastic or join the twenty first century after I walk out. That just leaves tips, transportation, food (and DRINK), and the occasional T-shirt that I'll use real money for. Having plenty of 5 and ten dollar bills makes bargaining and tipping alot easier and the room safe makes me feel secure enough to leave hundreds of dollars in the room.

Yes, we lock it in the safe and take what we think we'll need in ports. Most places also take credit cards but some are cash only. If you've booked excursions, check the receipt (e-mail usually) and see how the balance is to be paid. If you want to shop in the straw-market kind of places you will need cash - the smaller the bills the better for bargaining purposes. I usually take a bunch of ones for tipping at the airport, the cruise porters at the port and room service.

Hey everyone. :grouphug:

We bring around 1k in cash also. I also have $500 on my rewards card, so I will put that towards my onboard credit the first day. Then we go to GS every few days and get a printout of our charges. We try and pay for most charges before the end of the trip. Tips we do in cash.

A word to the wise. Do not wait until Thursday or Friday to head down to GS to check your bill. Do it every few days. The line on Thurs. and Friday to pay for tips and get a printout is INSANE. :headache:

Also, pictures are usually around $100+ for packages. Buy a package the first day onboard and then you can trade pictures throughout the trip. If for instance you buy an 8x10 package and then decide to get all 5x7's, you can change it. Again, the line to buy pics on Thurs. and Friday is CRAZY.:headache:

We know we have 8pm dining because we requested it. They honor requests because if they dont, then they will have to switch it onboard and move poeple around and they would rather just give you your request ahead of time to avoid confusion. ;)

I looked through the paperwork last night. Getting very excited. Feel really fat. The thought of getting into a bathing suit is making me  . The cruise is sneeking up on me. Is it April already?:scared:
I thought I had more time to lose that 30 lbs. I planned on.:confused3

I too am bringing some of the rewards $$ but I didn't know you can use it towards your on board credit, thanks for that info :goodvibes .
i was going to use our rewards $$ when we get off the ship we are heading to the magic kingdom for a few good hours since we have an 8':50 flight that night and head back home.

Just called DCL and they do cash travelers checks on board, no limit, as long as it is US dollars. I was nervous as didn't want to have that cash with us in WDW before the cruise. If there is any problem I guess we can hit some ATMs in Key West.

The weight thing-uggh-I have been cutting carbs a lot and doing WW, I have lost a couple of pounds, but not enough. Decreasing carbs or only eating them before 12 does make you feel bettter. This of course will be totally blown on the cruise though. At this point the only other thing to do is relax and have fun, don't worry about the weight.

:rotfl2: yeah I might need them...but seriously I have been on a good few cruises and I eat and drink what ever I want, I do take the stairs most of the time and I only gain usually about 3 lbs for the whole week. By the end of the cruise I actually get sick of food I sometimes order from the kids menu
or I might just order salad and an appetizer and not the main coarse.
Then when we all go home it hits you, where's my waiter:confused3 to serve me??? oh well the fun is now over and you lose all those few extra

I know, I know!

Buffet pants-Pants that are probably a couple sizes too big for you now but that have an expandable/retractable waist band-like velcro, elastic etc.
So in theory, you can have a pair of pants that start as a medium but expand to a comfortable XL depending on what you eat at the Buffet!

When oh when oh when is a new ep of Lost going to be on? I'm blaming y'all.... you got me hooked on this show and now I can't get a fix. Watch the next new ep be on while we're on the cruise.

Hey, watch.... cruise...... you think we can get ABC onboard? It's a Disney network so we should be able to, right? If it's a new ep, maybe they'll show it in Diversions or something? If they do, you wanna have a Lost "party"? I mean, if it's a new ep, it could be a lot of fun watching it as a group.

What's Thursday... is that semi-formal night? If so, I won't be able to do a Lost party becuase I'm gonna be dancing. Learned to swing last night (been taking dance lessons) and it's easy and fun! But if it's not, maybe we can watch Lost together.

But with my luck, it's going to be yet another repeat! :(

Jeff,
Alot of folks like to be in Lumieres on formal night because it is considered the fanciest restaurant of the 3. I dont care where I am on formal night. It's a personal preference. As far as the creme brulee, the menus are the same in every restaurant each night. I think the banana creme brulee is on the last night on the Til We Meet Again menu.

Hey there everyone! It has been a while...I have been quickly reading in between classes at work....since we are computer limited here in our house and decided not to buy a new computer for a while...need the extra cash for vacation prep and vacation...and I hate charging anything...although buying a computer on my disney visa would certainly up my disney dollars, wouldn't it? Hey I have an idea Hypermommy..do you have a disney visa? Think of it, all you have to do is spend more to get more...how is that for economics King Charming?

Joan: Re: Dinning..all I know for sure is that our reservations are linked but for some reason, I am thinking it is for 8pm. It really doesn't matter to me much which rotation we have. Personally the earlier we eat at the late seating, the better..less hunger issues and less downtime between the show and dinner.

I started pre-packing/organizing. I think I have everything my daughter is bringing out on her bedroom floor...except underwear, jewelry and hair stuff! Bad news though...Between Hypermommy's cinderella hair and her private appointment (is that with Cheryl? I forget who is our resident DIS stylist..sorry..too lazy to check back!) I became inspired to do a tiera (oh my...that is spelled wrong, isn't it?...too lazy to spell check too tonight!) and an updo for my daughter on formal night...and wouldn't you know it...someone stepped on it and broke it...and someone is not owning up to it... can someone say crazy glue?

Off to bed. I am up before the birds tomorrow with other type A moms who stand on line to register our kids for camp at 6am when the registration doesn't actually start until 9am...PSYCHO! And I think it is going to rain...WET PSYCHO!

Good night all.
How's this grab you all? Tomorrow afternoon we actually can say WE ARE ON THE NEXT WESTERN! Sounds like MAGIC TO ME!

Unfortunately no Disney visa for me. When I was young and stupid(er?) I did a pretty good number on my credit. While I have other credit cards now, Chase (I think that's the company) is apparently less forgiving. Oh well.... brought it on myself so I can't complain.

Oh cool!!! You're going to be in a tiara too!!!! Excellent

Ugh... it's crazy about registering kids for camp. I know exactly what you mean as I've done that several times. Thank goodness mine are able to stay home by themselves now and I'm past that craziness. Hope you don't get too wet.

I thought we had one more weekend to go before the cruise. Oh, please don't tell me I only have a few days left. I haven't even found the kids' swimsuits yet. Yes, you'd think they could keep up with them. But you know all those cartoons you see about how teenaged boys bedrooms look? Theyr'e true!!!!!!! It's really scary in there. I won't even go in any more. I think the swimsuits might be on a dresser in my room. It's a "catch all" type of place so I just have to clear it off and see if they're there. If not, then I'm going to tell the boys they'd better find their swimsuits if they hope to go swimming.

Hey, got a question for you Castaway Club members. Went out with some friends last night, all of whom had cruised before but non on Disney, and they were telling me that you're absolutely not allowed to take alcohol onto the ship becuase that's a big revenue stream for the cruise line. They were telling me all kinds of ways smuggle it on. I'm beginning to wonder if we should do that. Is Disney really forgiving of bringing alcohol on the ship.

Oh, and by the way... this is as good a time as any to say this. I know fromm previous messages you guys probably think I'm some sort of lush. But no.... I will be alternating water with my drinking so I can drink all day and not get too far gone (or dehydrated). But I AM going to be on vacation and after the past couple of weeks at the office I'm sure I'm going to need it. Just didn't want you to think you have to tie me up and take me to a friends of Bill W meeting ;-)

I don't think you can put drinks in your checked luggage but you can carry them on with you as long as the bag fits through the scanners.
They charge a corkage if you bring a bottle to the dining room with you (in fact I think I just read it went up to $15 per bottle).
Never had an issue when I've had a couple of bottles in my carryon-I just don't bring them into the dining rooms-nice bottle of wine on a sunny deck in the afternoon is just the best!

Cool... the way these guys were talking last night it was absolutely verboten to bring anything but maybe a bottle of wine. We have champagne for embarkation night and for my birthday and we'd like to bring a bottle of vodka or something. Just didn't know if I was going to have to smuggle it in. Thanks for letting me know. :woohoo:

that's because the other lines charge cheap fares and make up for it on alcohol and casinos.
Disney, OTOH, charges you right up front.

Works for me! I'd rather have the price right up front. There's no telling how much I might drink. :rotfl2:

So.... this time two weeks from now I expect to be at the port and hopefully have an early boarding number. I'm thinking of taking a book and heading over there really early and letting KC and the boys deal with the luggage when they come over. Don't know if that'll work for poor KC though. They're good boys, but he does love his bachelor time. :rotfl: But if I get to do that, I might just have to go out and get Rhett's People. Anyone read that? As much as I love GWTW, it's something I just gotta read!

Good night all.
How's this grab you all? Tomorrow afternoon we actually can say WE ARE ON THE NEXT WESTERN! Sounds like MAGIC TO ME!

Okay, so I'm at work today (bummer!) becuase I have to get this logic working (!#@$$#!@##$@!). And I've just got my music playing in random order. So I hear "Somewhere Below The Sea" (Connick, I think) and then "Big 10 Inch Record" (Aerosmith) and then "Orange Blossom Special" (Scruggs and Flat I believe). Only on my playlist, eh? :rotfl:

So then I got to thinking.... what kinds of music do you guys like? And what types do they play in the various clubs and such?

You know, denial is the first sign of a problem!

Denise,

I personally think the 80's night is the best. It is in the Rockin' Bar D one night (I forget which). It's a cant miss.

Next Sat. I am taking DD princess: to Mohegan Sun to see Avril Lavigne. I like her. Bon Jovi is my all time favorite though. I would definately catorgorize myself as an 80's chick. Love and miss my BIG hair days. :scared1: I know for a fact that Gina & Jeff are 80's metal/hair band fans. :cool2:

I also love the obvious: Billy Joel, Harry Connick, Elton John, any kind of show tune, movie music, etc.

Bottom line: give me 2 martinis and I'll dance to anything!!!!!:cool1: :woohoo:

Ok Denise,
I think that you are probably the only one that could handle this request. I think we need an updated funlist that I (we) can print and save for the cruise. For example time, date and place for walking, Lost Party, cigar meet for the guys. Otherwise we will get on the boat and never know where, when etc. as it's not like we can get on the board.

Then again, you are across the hall from me and I have a feeling that I'll hear you!! LOL:cheer2:

Hi Joan,

My dh and I were reading threads on cruise critic about this tour as far as nativeway goes they are a good company to deal with along with capt marvins which we did about 5 yrs ago (they are also mentioned in the passporter as well:thumbsup2 ) As far as the island tour, about 2 yrs ago we rented a car in caymen islands and visited the turtle farm and went to ""hell"" and headed to rum point where my husband Jim feel in love with the beach:love: . so for us to do an island tour again doesn't really interest our family. however, there is probably more to see then what we saw that day but for my kids I think they just want to be in the water :goodvibes

My kids never did the stingray tour (couples cruise only:hug: )so this will be their 1st time Jenny is a little nervous after hearing about a few deaths:rolleyes1 but if she doesn't want to go into the water to feed them so be it:thumbsup2 my son, stephen doesn't care one way or the otherpirate:

here is a part of the email that they sent me today:

The tour departs the pier at 8 AM Central Time and completes at around 1:30 PM Central Time. We ask that you check in no later than 7:45 AM Central Time. When you come ashore, look for the person carrying the sign that says Native Way Watersports. You may also ask for us at the information booth at the cruise ship terminal.

We provide free use of all snorkeling gear and vests, food for the Rays, and complimentary punch and bottled water. At Rum Point, you will be given a nice grilled lunch. After the tour, you will have two options for drop off: back to the pier, or, at 7-mile beach (where you can taxi back to the pier at any time for $4 per person).

We ask that you provide at least one week advance notice to cancel. If your ship is unable to dock in Grand Cayman, we will automatically cancel your reservation, at no cost to you.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I look forward to seeing you in Grand Cayman

Joan, hope this helps you out :)

I have used Nativeway about 2 yrs ago when I was vacationing in Grand Cayman and they were wonderful. So, if you are looking for someone who has first hand experience with the company I can tell you they were on time, reliable, fun, etc. I reserved over the phone, they picked us up in a van from the Ritz-Carlton, and delivered us back after the Stingray excursion. On our boat were many other New Yorkers who came from a cruise (not sure which) had done their homework and were doing their own excursion through Nativeway. Have fun!

I know we don't want to do it too early becuase there are some that don't want to get up that early. And we don't want to do it too late becuase there are some that might not be able to walk well later in the afternoon. :drinking1 Did we decide on a time? If not, how does 9am sound for everyone? He'll be glad to know it's been a helpful idea. Although some things you just don't want to know... right? As for FE... we just got some generically fun stuff. Ours is all themed to pirate night so that's the day I'll be walking around giving stuff out. It's a couple of little toy type things and a couple of useful items. That's all I'm going to say right now but I think mostly it's just the idea of finding something in your pocket and knowing someone was thinking of you. And candy.... I think I'm going to get some candy as that's age and gender appropriate no matter what.

Yeah, I got the feeling that she was very much against it. Especially when she started her own thread. Oh well... I can't say as I really blame her after what happened with the ebay thing.

This is our sixth cruise, we are two doors down from you/ I have a 2 yr old 6 year old and an 11 yr old. If you go to plainum castaway club website. you can get navigators, the days activities. We are from LI.

:welcome: Okay.. a lot to catch up on since you're just joining. First off... welcome to our crazy little thread. Okay, so I'm the crazy one. Everyone else is pretty sane. You'll see the hyperlist soon (gotta go back and find it so I can post it again). Basically, that's a listing of when everyone's ressies are so we'll know who we'll be doing activities with from this thread. And Joan has a spreadsheet (Joan... can you post the link to that again) with ages and families and room number and whether you'd like to participate in the fish exchange and whether you'll be meeting us at Fishlips for dinner the night before the cruise and all types of other stuff like that. And then there's the Yankee Gift Exchange thing we're doing at our Dismeet on Saturday (what time was that again? I think it's in the spreadsheet). Basically, that's one of those gift exchanges where whoever draws #1 gets to pick a gift. Then whoever got #2 gets to either "steal" the gift from #1 (in which case #1 gets another pick) or pick new gift. #3 can "steal" from #2 or #1 or pick a new gift... etc, etc, etc. Did I explain that right, y'all?

AHHHH, music. I too have a WIDE range of music tastes, just no country please! :cool2: I LOVE the 80'S: Madonna, B52's, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Devo, The Fix. Have you listened to some of the newer country? How about Big and Rich's "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy"? It's even got a bit of a rap in it. You might just surprise yourself. Everything on your list sounds good to me. Remember how "foine!" George Michael was when he was in Wham!, before he messed up his beautiful hair? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

So what's in the mojito so we can practice too? I'll only have one or two (or three or four) :rotfl2:

What book is this? :confused3 I am a HUGE GWTW fan and I never heard of it.

Rhett Butler's People (I was wrong on the title) is something I saw at the bookstore a couple of months ago. Looked like it told the story of Rhett and what he did and how he was banished by his father and such. Now after reading the Amazon.com review (http://www.amazon.com/Rhett-Butlers-People-Donald-McCaig/dp/0312262515/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207481842&sr=8-1) I see that it's more a retelling of the story from Rhett's point of view, with some of his backstory involved (apparently there are scenes where he rescues Belle Watling and mentors her son, who we know was never in Atlanta). Sounded like it'd be fun.

I made the mistake of reading Alexandra Ripley's Scarlett a few years ago. I know this book is by different author, but I am now a firm believer in "don't mess with the classics."

We're going too have to agree to disagree on Scarlett. I think I like it almost even more than the original. Scarlett grows a bit in the original but it's in this book that she finally moves past the scars of her youth and learns what love really is. I absolutely love this book. Now... if we talk about that wholly terrible movie they made from it that didn't even follow the plotline... I'm not talking about the usual license a movie takes with a book but a wholly different story from about the midpoint on and not even a good story ... that was awful!

Okay... off to find the last hyperlist so I can update it. We're all going to be doing the single digit happy dance soon!!!! :dance3:  :dancer:

The latest version of the hyperlist I could find was dated 10 Mar 08. The only thing I had to add to it was Dis2Cruise's Grand Caymen excursion. Dis2Cruise, did I get it in the right place? Oh yeah, and my massage that I was able to book on Thursday. Almost forgot about that one :goodvibes Okay... if there's anything else to add, y'all let me know.

Okay, looking over the spreadsheet I see that we did decide on a coffee/walking/bahama mamas time of 7am. Works for me. I've added that time on the hyperlist too. Is anyone dropping off becuase of the time?

tmsjjb, this is the "hyperlist" I was talking about. On this you can see who's doing what excursions when and where so you can buddy up with someone if you're doing the same one. It's got a bit more info on it as well such as who has what spa treatments and palo and such. I guess this list really proves why I'm called "Hypermommy" becuase who else would be insane enough to put together something like this. :rotfl2:

Oh, by the way... did you guys ever decide on a time for Cigars & Cognac?

Okay.. here's the hyperlist:

Off to bed. I am up before the birds tomorrow with other type A moms who stand on line to register our kids for camp at 6am when the registration doesn't actually start until 9am...PSYCHO! And I think it is going to rain...WET PSYCHO!

Hey Michelle,

How'd registering the kiddos for camp go? Did you get the spot you wanted? Did you get wet? Hope so and hope not respectively. :goodvibes

Yeah, we have to do shopping this week too. First, I have to get these teenaged boys to get all the clothes off the floor in their room and figure out what we need to wash before we go buy anything. I'm thinking the guys will at least need some shorts. :rotfl2:

My kids never did the stingray tour (couples cruise only:hug: )so this will be their 1st time Jenny is a little nervous after hearing about a few deaths:rolleyes1 but if she doesn't want to go into the water to feed them so be it:thumbsup2 my son, stephen doesn't care one way or the otherpirate: :)

Thanks. The reason I asked because I'm kinda on the fence about the tour part. I have heard from the thread that the tour part is not that great, specifically "Hell". I'm wondering if my kids would like the beach better. I'm leaning toward changing it.

Hi all,

Had enough responses that I wanted to get this up again before I forgot anything again. Bdwk97, I so deeply apologize for leaving off the information you sent me and beg you, kind and sweet heart that you are, to forgive this most unworthy servant. :worship: :worship: :rotfl2:

Question about Fishlips.... something I've learned that worked well with the Scouts is when the kids are at one table and the adults at another. That way, they can have their conversations (am I the only one that gets tired of hearing discussions of YuGiOh and other inane things that bore me to tears but are soooooooo very important to the kids) and they're not bored with our conversation. Now, ths may not work if the kids are very young or if you're uncomfortable with it but I suggest for the 6 or 7 year old set and up that it might make the dinner better for us and for them. Not out of sight or hearing or anything, but just at the kids table. What'dya think?

Joan, please change us to to the Radisson Resort at the Port for the night before. Oh, and now we're a yes for Fishlips, if we can still get in there with you guys. Is that do-able? Is there room on the reservation? I sure hope so because I'd forgotten I said no when I figured we'd be trying to save some money and since King Charming has authorized this expense I'm very much looking forward to it.

And if you sent me something previously for the hyperlist and I don't have it on here then 1) please send me the info again or post it here and 2) forgive me for being a bootyhead and 3) get ready to find a wet noodle online

So what's in the mojito so we can practice too? I'll only have one or two (or three or four) :rotfl2:

A mojito is really good light refreshing drink.

1st make a simple syrup
its easy to make :goodvibes Just take 2 cups sugar in a sauce pan and add 1 cup tap water.
boil for about 7 minutes make sure it doesn't boil over:scared1: or dont spill it because it will hurt like H##L and we are not talking the Grand cayman islands here either lol:rotfl2: when done, let the simple syrup cool on stove and then put it into a container and this can be stored in your fridge for about one week.

Ok now drinkie time:cool1:

in a tall glass add the following:

2 slices of lime
4 fresh mint leaves ( I got these from my local supermarket in the produce dept)

with a back of a spoon mush the lime/mint leaves together a few times, this gets out the natural oils of the mint and juice from the lime.

fill your glass almost to the top with ice

add 3 tablespoons of the simple syrup that you made

1 1/2 oz of light rum (any rum will do)

top with either club soda or sparkling water your choice.

stir your drink together and enjoy:upsidedow

Anyway, I'm not going to stress about that anymore. I just won't have all the door magnets I worked so hard at doing. Thanks to Denise, I have two.

I'm looking at the spreadsheet. At the bottom I tallied how many will be participating in the Fish Extender and the Yankee Swap. I hope my math is right. This is what I'm thinking but I don't want to offend. I would like to clean up the spreadsheet by taking off those who have not participated or given me information. I'm not even sure they are still going on our cruise. What do you think? Not to be rude, it's just I think it would be easier to read. Let me know.

I suppose as an English teacher, I tend to be more critical of things like continuity, characterization, motivations and such. When you're reading specifically for these types of things on a regular basis - especially with the classics - incongruence tends to stick out like a sore thumb.
Yep. best to agree to disagree.

Joan put the numbers at the bottom of the spreadsheet. Looks like six folks will be participating in the Yankee Swap but maybe more will show up with gifts. I know I got one adult gift, one kid gift and one teen gift.

Anyway, I'm not going to stress about that anymore. I just won't have all the door magnets I worked so hard at doing. Thanks to Denise, I have two.

I think if they haven't answered they're either not going or not participating in the events we've scheduled here. Either way, I don't think it would be rude to take them off the list. You're right... it would make it easier to read.

If you want more magnet stuff just let me know. If not, you're absolutely right - don't stress over it.

Ressies for Fishlips are being made probably wednesday. We have had some busy days and weeks lately. Not too much time for much of anything. It is on my list of things to do....along with a million other things to do. Between doc visits, computer issues, new responsibilities at work, packing, shopping, standing on line for camp (yes she got in and is excited about it!) and a birthday (mine!..I will be, as my daughter called it...the disney channel age...in NY that is 38!) we have been quite the busy family.

Dinner reservation will be for 7pm (Joan could you update it on the spreadsheet! Thanks

This is what I have as a head count

Tinkified 3
Connie 2
Dis2cruise 4
Madgomez 4
Hupermommy 4
Techjpm 3

And I have Ant and Joan with maybe's for 4 people each. If I recall correctly, both of these are no's. Please correct me if I am wrong, Antoinette and Joan.

The adult table and kid/teen table is fine with me...I have a little one (7 going on 77) and if I remember correctly, do does Madgomez and Techjpm. I am thinking these little ones will sit with mom and dads...and the teens will have their own table? Let me know Mad and Tech if this is what you would like to do!

Will check in later to see if anything needs to be updated or changed!

Spreadsheet looks great Joan! Thanks for all that work and the totalling and all. Looks like we're gonna have lots of birthdays. I didn't realize how many. Too cool!!!!

Oh and Joan, I'm presuming your excursion change was on Grand Caymen? If not, let me know the GC excursion so I can put it back on and tell me where to go (behave!) to put your new excursion on.

I'm with Conny... is Fishlips 6 or 7? I thought it was 7? Now don't confuse me this close to the cruise. You know I've only got two brain cells left. :rotfl:

Gail - Joan got your hotel and time changed on the spreadsheet (she's good, ain't she!). I'll try to get my son to my computer to PM Brittani before the cruise. With the way things are going at work, I'm not sure how much I'll see him between now and then. But I'll try. And don't call that precious girl normal... normal is boring! :rotfl2:

Jeff - yes, sir... definitely still time to email the photo. Send it to hypermommy at comcast dot net and I'll be happy to get it up and send you back the link.

Michelle... LOL about you being the Disney channel age. Around here I think that's 40-something or (horrors!) way up in the hundreds for the HD channel. So instead, I'm celebrating the 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday. So how old are all the other birthday folks gonna be? C'mon... share. Remember... getting older beats the alternative.

Hi all,

First off... a question. Could one of you returning cruisers explain to me exactly how the luggage thing is handled? Jim's planning on dropping the kids and I off at the port and then returning the van to the hotel and hopping the shuttle (or maybe a taxi depending on timing) back to the port. Does that mean I'm going to have to drag around the luggage until I get checked in? Or to put it more precisely, does that mean I'm going to have to threaten my kids with bodily harm so they'll drag around the luggage until we get checked in? Is it like at the airport where you have to be inspected, detected and injected before you can leave your luggage with them? Or is it, like I think I've heard somewhere, that you leave your checked luggage somewhere just inside the gate and you only carry your carry on stuff into the port building with you?

Second off, an offer.... as soon as I get the luggage thing handled the kids and I are going to be sitting around with my Disney trivia cards passing the time ... just reading cards and guessing answers... I figure it's small -- I'd love to bring the whole game but it's not small. I may leave them for a moment to do check-in if I can but I'll be within site of them. I'm going to get to the port at about 10AM. If anyone else would find it easier to dump, er, uh, leave their kids somewhere while you take care of the luggage and stuff, I'd be happy to keep an eye on them. If you don't feel comfortable remember that I've had the background check through Scouting and everything and we'll be in a fully public place. But if you still don't feel comfortable, I fully understand.... just thought I'd offer in case it would help someone out.

Hi Denise
Donīt worry,King Charming can drope you off and the Porters are outside and collect all your luggage.Than you go to the Terminal, through security and upstairs to the check-in.
Take care

Perfect!!! Hula... you hear that? KC's planning on dropping me off at 10AM, I believe. Maybe you could follow us in the car or meet us over there (can't remember where you're staying) with your luggage. Once all the luggage is dropped off, KC will return our van to the hotel and you can go drop off your car and your daughter can hang out with us. Sound like it'll work?

Ressies for are being made probably wednesday.

Joan and others that are doing dune buggy tour in cozumel..sorry, no hyperlist in front of me: did you get a letter regarding the meeting place cahnge for cozumel dune buggy tour?

Catch you all later. Almost to single digit countdown! Michelle

Could you take us off the Fishlips list, jenny has a surf lesson late in the afternoon. We might stop in and say "HI !!" but I dont want you to have 4 seats empty if for some reason we can't make it, hope you understand.

Put us in the for Butterfly/Turtle Farm Tour in Grand Caymen please.
The later one...I think 12pm.

Hey there, hi there, ho there, all! Check this out.... this is the last double digit day that the hyperlist will be going up. If I post it again (which I probably will) it'll be after I do the single-digit happy day dance. :dancer: :dancer:

So realistically, if all ashore is 7:30 in Grand Cayman and it's a tender what time should we be able to book an excursion to start (if not through DCL)?

yogibigdog
04-08-2008, 09:12 AM
People booked with Disney excursions will be able to get off as a group first. Then they will everyone else off. Since we have to tender it may take a while. Keep in mind the ship could be delayed and that we have to clear customs in port. Make sure you also allow plenty of travel time to get to your excursion.

Yeah, I'll print out your number too. Are you on a nationwide plan? I'm on a Floridawide plan so I don't pay for roaming unless I'm out of the state. Since I'm seldom out of state it works for me. But do you have nationwide roaming becuase I don't want to ring you up and it cost you tons of money.

Oooohhh... Key West is in Florida. I gotta figure out who I'm going to call from Key West. Too bad it's on a Sunday... It'd be fun to be mean to the people at the office and call and let them know I'm not working! :rotfl2:

My guys are 9 and 6. I fine with them sitting with us at the adult table, or at the kids table (so long as it's within eye-shot and they are next to each other). They're actually pretty good in restaurants. But I don't want any of the teens to feel they have to "baby-sit", so whatever works for everyone else is fine. As long as they don't have to split up - the little guy will be insulted if big brother is at the kids table and he isn't. LOL :goodvibes

I know I haven't really posted, but I have been tuning in regularly. Can't wait to meet everyone!:wave2:

I feel so unprepared, even tho I'm already packing, since I have to work the day we leave. And of course, I got everyone else everything they need, but don't know what I'm packing for me.:sad2:

Nah, if any of the teens feel they're babysitting then we're not watching over our kids enough. I just was thinking about it the other day becuase that's how we've done it in the Scout pack (ages 7-10) and then troop (11+) for years and the guys seem to love it.

I remember when I was a kid I'd be out playing and mom and dad would have company and I'd go do something fun and when I got back they were still talking. I mean... jeez... what's the fun of that?!? :rotfl2:
