View Full Version : One way UK car hire?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help? I am trying to organise car hire for our holiday to WDW in October, and I keep getting quoted silly money for one way car hire.

We usually use Enterprise, and they are asking for £50 each way one way fees on top of the rental, so this works out as about £200 for a trip to Gatwick and back two weeks later, with use of the car for less than 24 hours in total!:scared1:

I have looked at a few more on line and of the companies that I have found, only a few do one way rentals, and they are asking silly money as well.

I have looked into the flight link coach thing and it will take almost as long to get there as the flight to Orlando!

We need to get from the West Midlands to Gatwick in the middle of October, and I hope that someone out there has some suggestions on how to do it for less than £200 or 7 hours on a coach.

Thanks.

National Express (http://www.nationalexpress.com/?gclid=CNfpkcyAz4oCFQVAQQodskiNbQ) do go from Birmingham to Gatwick in 3hrs 45 mins with no stops.

We had the same dilemma last October. Historically we haven't had to pay the one-way fee, but that seems to be a thing of the past. We went round and round in circles and ended up taking our own car. I think the South Terminal "Summer Special" parking (which is a confusing misnomer as it's available all year round) was about £60 for 18 nights.

Thanks for the replies.

Claire L, we live about 10 miles from Birmingham, so would have to get the luggage, and the 4 of us, to and from the coach station and the price is £126 for the direct trip without a taxi to get us to the coach station. The only coach they run from the town we live in takes about 7 hours and costs £138. It also means that the kids have to miss another day of school as it goes during the day.

UKDEB, we don't have a car so we'd have to use a hire car.

There are probably some private hire firms who would take you. I'm guessing it won't be any cheaper than the coach, but it should be a lot quicker. Or do you have a friend or colleague who you could pay to take you?

Unfortunately, we don't have anyone that could take us.

OH was joking that it would be cheaper to get a taxi, but I didn't take him seriously, I'll have to look into it. Thanks:thumbsup2

Have you tried Hire Cars (http://www.hirecars.co.uk/)?

Thanks Claire L. I've had a look at that site and it works out about the same as Enterprise, as the cars are a bit more expensive and the small print mentions a £35 one way fee.:headache:

There is probably already an answer to this on this thread (and I have missed it or something), but why don't you just drive to Gatwick and park?

You can get a couple of weeks parking (through holidayextras.co.uk or similar) for about £80/£90 and your petrol would be about £40 (Birmingham to Gatwick return). So that is about £120/£130.

Thanks for your reply Boo, but we don't have a car.

Wow *faint*

That would explain it then... ;)

Good luck finding something that works out :)
