Season Slide Mount Swap.

Okay, here is my idea for this swap… I got my inspiration from 2 peas. Search their gallery under slide mounts, lots of inspiration there. Even if you search just the particular season you can get a lot of inspiration and scale it down to the slide mount.

My idea is to do 2 groups of 8 swappers. This will give you 2 season sets each. Each swapper will make 2 slide mounts per person, so a total of 16 slide mounts. Please sign up for only one group at first. If by Friday the groups are not full, I will open it up! I will leave it up to each individual if they want to adhere paper and alter pre-made slide mounts or if they want to use their Sizzix slide mount (or another brand) dies. There are sometimes I like the thicker ones and there are sometimes I like the thinner ones. It’s totally up to the swapper.

Please don’t do anything HOLIDAY related because we have a swap for this later in the year.

Here are some ideas; these are only off the top of my head at 9AM.
Fall: falling leaves, string the word “autumn” or “fall” on the slide mount or in the window of the slide mount. Back to school, pumpkins
Spring: flowers, rain,
Summer: beach theme, picnic related, pool related,
Winter: snowflakes, snowmen, gloves, sleds.

You may do one slide mount that is open and one slide mount that becomes a shaker box if you like. There is a cute one of the shaker box ones on 2peas in a winter theme.

I will be posting sign ups on Wednesday, February 28th at 9:00am. If you have any suggestions please give them. I am open and will adjust whatever we need too.

This sounds like loads of fun Buffy! I do have a few questions though. I have a package of plastic slide mounts. Do I cut these in half or fold them over? And I saw a squishy slide mount shaker box on 2peas, would something like that be okay?

TIA,
DF

I'm Nancy...
When I have made my slide mounts into shaker boxes, I cut them in half and than cut my mounting tape to fit accordingly so my goodies don't fall out. I have not tried to just fold them over...

Hope to have you aboard in this swap!!
Yes, the ones on 2peas are great!! :)

I've done slide mounts before and they are really easy to put together. I use the pre made cardboard ones and cut them in 1/2. Also if you want to print something for the inside you can print on transparency paper.

Where do you get the premade ones and do alot come in a pack? I was thinking about maybe getting the sizzix diecut...we have been able to use these as swap elements too right? Then I can use it again...and again....and again... yup, swap addicted...

I bought mine at Michael's I think?! I forgot how many are in a package. These are by Design Originals, their website says 8 in a pack but I swear there were more, I'm not sure if they count 2 sections as 1 piece.
And yes you can use slide mounts in swaps.

another site has the same packs and they say 16 so I guess it is 16 if you break them in 1/2. I would say that if you are going to put a pic in it and leave the the window blank keep them together but if you are going to put something inside the window then use 1/2.

So then if we use the Sizzix die, we should make two and attach them together on three sides?

You should be able to, just leave enough room around the edge of the window to slide a pic in. Or glue it on one side so it can be folded back a bit to put something in. Clear as mud right?!?!?

I've gotten the white cardboard slide mounts in bulk on Ebay (something like 200) for cheaper than a pack of 6 or 10 at Michaels or JoAnn's. Then, I use the Sizzix dies to cut the paper to adhere to the cadboard slide mounts. I embellish on top of that and often use another paper, or whatever in the center window and embellish that sometimes, too.

:flower3: I am so sorry Nancy... I just glanced at your siggy and saw "Buffy" and ran with it.

You bet I will be signing up for this swap! I love trying new stuff, and swaps give me a chance to do things I havent tried yet. You gals may have to hold my hand a little bit on this one though, if thats okay? :)

I just tried making a few and they came out horrible. I will get more slide mounts and try a few more. Are they suppose to be picture frames or do they have a backing with something inside the opening?

They can be either. But personally I like the ones Yoda makes with a 3-d embellishment in the opening.

They are like little minature picture frames or you can make them into shaker boxes.. I'll post a few pictures..

Here's a shaker box I found on twopeas..

Here's one from one of our DIS-er's..

As for leaving room to add a photo.. I would just adhere 2 sides.. like an "L" shape so you could slide a photo or transparency in and than the individual could seal it shut.

I also have seen some awesome mounts that have little charms hanging in the center of them.. or some of the mounts are use to highlight specific parts of a photo or word.

I saw the sizzix die at Joann's today...40% off. The sizzix site shows it clearenced, which means discontinued, so I figured I better get it when I saw it.

Very cute ideas. I can't believe these things have been around and I didn't know how to use them!

either transparency paper or the backer plastic from embellishments like Jolees or Disney. Anything clear and sturdy.
