Holy cow!! No offense intended, but how long do you stay per year? You are my hero.

We just bought 210 BWV points, my first contract. Passed ROFR, waiting to close.

You had me going for a second:rotfl:

As for what I do, I have used them to stay at the Dorchester in London (17 nights @ 100 pts a night:scared1: ) last Sept. Use Concierge Club and will stay 40 nights in 13 months at WDW.

Our plan in 9 yrs is to spend Dec 1 to April 1 at WDW instead of the snow in Winter. The only snow I want to see is at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas:santa:

We own 320 points = 200 & 120 contracts at SSR.

It's good enough for about 11-13 nights a year in our chosen one bedroom.

We had figured 200 to start with and just do 5 day add-on stays to our Marriott timeshares a couple times a year. Then we wanted to stay in one bedrooms and take family with us, so needed the extra 120 for 2 bedroom stays.

I'm at the point now where I'm point hording so I can always be ahead of the game. But still I booked 8 days in May in a 1 BR, 6 days in oct in a 2 BR, and 3 days New Year's in a Studio. I'm still hording 80 points for next year. Then I'll do 3 days in a studio at one of the other resorts and 8-9 days at SSR. And I'll do two weeks in April at my Marriott resort. Cheaper and easier that way. I still figuring out the best way to use my timeshares.

I wouldn't mind adding another 100-130 points in future though. Mostly so I can get a full two weeks or so a year. But i think it'll wait for a CRV add-on. Maybe AKV, but I'm souring on that.

The AKV point charts are currently available on the dvcmember.com web site.

150 pts at SSR
75 pts at VWL
150 pts at AKV

I just cannot imagine having over 1000 points. The initial investment would be insane, and the annual dues would be a little steep for me. However.... the idea of spending your winter months in WDW, almost as a second home sounds appealing. For those snowbirds out there, maybe owning so many points is still cheaper than having a second home in Orlando (No utility bills and no worries about maintanence). Does anybody buy points as a second home alternative?

Yes, the dues are scary:eek: but being able to stay without any issues of maintaining(and cleaning) a place on Disney property for basically the rest of my life is nice. It takes more than 2000 pts to stay at Disney for 6 months, even in a studio. And you would probably end up staying twice during premium season. If your goal is just to use your timeshare as a means of avoiding winter, you could do that more cheaply thru II, by getting their getaway weeks at places like Liki Tikki. Even better, rent a condo by the month, or buy one off eBay!:happytv:

Stayed at 340 points for a long time. But in the last year we've reduced it down to 205. Probably will keep it at 205 unless DVC tempts us with CRV - ;)

Thinking more and more about retirement and wanted to lower those annual dues - so a downsize was in order. Plus, we've got other favorites in Orlando - Marriott Horizons, Marriott Cypress Harbour - so we didn't need quite as many DVC points because we like our Marriott, too (own a timeshare with Marriott also).

I am beginning to downsize, too, selling points while I can get all my cash back, and buying Marriott for a fraction of the price. We had 926 pts, and have gone down to 775 pts so far, and purchased an additional week at CypressHarbour. I can access II's getaway weeks for less than the cost of the dues, so I am planning to go that route for Marriott from now on, and eventually I want to get down to about 270 DVC points, thereby lessening my risk in case the point value should tank within the next 10 years. That's what you have to do when you retire.:sad1:

Do the DVC members who own close to 1000 or more points use them for extended family/friends or rent them out ?
Or are they as selfish as I am and just use them for themselves and immediate family .

Point's haven't gone to waste as yet still borrowing and banking since I had to cancel the 2006 DVC member cruise and use those points for the repo instead.
I also own an RCI timeshare. But no way will I rent out or give away my DVC points to anyone else.

1,000 points seems like alot but you have to remember it depends on the size of the family. We are a family of 5 who like to go 3 times a year for a week. Our youngest is 8 months, so right now a 1 bedroom is fine for us (We own 500 points). However, when she is over 3 years old, we will have to upgrade to a two bedroom. This will require us to have about 900 points a year. That is alot of points if you stay in a studio, but not alot if you use a two bedroom.

As I mentioned, I like to travel. Last year I used 1700 pts for 17 nights in Londaon. I go to London every other year(for the last decade and a half). Also last year we stayed 4 nights at Sonoma and 5 nights at Monterey. I also stayed at the GC Concierge at DL 8 nights in October. That was on top of a at 10 night WDW Goofy trip. Points go fast with that many trips.

07 holds 4 trips to WDW in 13 months for a total of 40 nights. I am also planning another trip to Sonoma and Monterey. 08 might be an Adventures by Disney trip to Italy on to of 2-3 trips to WDW.:)

I was intrigued by your use of points outside of WDW. (when I do the math, based on Maintenance fees at SSR, you paid $412.00 per night for your 17 day London stay, thats over $7,000.00 for the entire stay, That would be about 17 weeks in a studio at SSR during the value season! not much of a bargan IMHO) But hey they are your points!:)

Have you stay in London? One of the most expensive cities in the world to stay at. Little lone stay at a 5 star hotel. I went to the hotels website and put in the dates and the deluxe Hyde Park view room, it would have cost me $21,000 with VAT:scared1: To give you an idea, Nicole Kidman was staying there while we were their. Her room was $6000 a night! Breakfast at the hotel as almost $60(32 pounds) per person:eek: Internet access was $35 a day.

I did pay a lot if you figure dues but would never been able to afford the hotel.

All I can say is WOW.

We have 200 points. We just closed this week (SSR). One day we will add on another 200 points, but until that time this works out just fine for us!

160 SSR
50 BCV
100 VWL

I would like to sell my BCV and get another VWL or AKL someday although IF CRV shows up it would be convenient to commute to VWL :cool1:

250 here-200 at SSR and a 50 add-on at AKV-yeah! We are happy with our amount. There are just the three of us and DD will be leaving soon for college. DH and I can stay in a studio with that amount of points anytime of year, even a one-bedroom for the most part. We only go once a year and with airfare going up, up, up, it is getting more difficult to get decent prices from Massachusetts! I'm not envious, just glad for what we have! Yes, we even share our points with family!
