Welcome to the DIS Ladies Only WISH thread for 2007! If you’ve stumbled upon this thread and are not part of the DIS Ladies Only trip for November 2007, you’re in the wrong place. ;) This thread is to encourage those going on the trip with weight loss before the trip.

First, I just want to say I think its wonderful so many people signed up. We have 14! That’s a great start! Any other members of the Ladies Trip who want to join, please PM me no later than Tuesday.

I’ll tell you a little about what this thread was last year and then get on to the “rules” of the competition part. Remember, you do not have to “compete” if you don’t want to. If you want to just weigh in and/or hang out to get support, feel free to do so. And really rather than a competition, I’d like to say its more of a reward for a job well done. Last year I think our top losers lost 20%, 10% and 5% of their body weight. That represents some hard work on their part. And something that should be recognized. I personally lost ten pounds and have kept that ten off and have dropped a couple more since then. But I know I can do a lot better than that though so here I am this year, looking forward to how much further I can take this.

Please note: you can use this thread however you wish to. Last year we used it to post recipes, list weight loss tips, tell stories of how we got where we are and how we hope to get to where we want to be, support, etc. Whatever you want it to be, it can be for you. I will try to check it a few times a day but sometimes people only pop in on weigh in day, and sometimes not at all - everyone does things the way they work best for them so please don’t feel like you have to pop over here ten times a day. You can be here as little or as much as you want.

Now that we’ve got the formalities out of the way, lets get to the “rules”:

1. The “competition” will run from February 27, 2007 (our first weigh-in day) to October 23, 2007 (our last weigh-in day). I plan on doing two or three “mini” competitions within this one but they will work the same way as the main competition, except for the prize part meaning there will most likely be “a winner” or multiple winners in the mini competition, not 1st, 2nd and
3rd place.

2. Weigh-in day is every Tuesday. We used this date last year, seemed to work o.k. If for some reason Tuesday is not a good day for you to weigh in, PM me and I will see what we can do for you. When you weigh in, simply PM me your weight. No one will know your weight but me, unless you choose to tell them on this thread.

3. To stay “active” in the competition, you must weigh in at least twice a month. Everyone has weeks they feel like they’ve blown it or just don’t want to face the scale and that’s o.k. , but to avoid anyone dropping out and then jumping back in at the end, I think it will be most fair to make sure that anyone participating weighs in at least twice a month. So please note, if you drop out, you’re out. You can always come back to get moral support, we’re still here for you. But you can’t go back into the competition.

4. The winners of the competition (top 3) will be determined not by pounds lost, but by percentage of body weight lost. This makes it a bit more fair for those who may not have so much to lose, but still are trying to get in shape and lose a few pounds.

5. If you were in the top three last year, you cannot compete or win this year.

6. Winner will take half the pot. Second place will take 2/3 of the second half the pot, and third place will take the remaining 1/3 of the second half of the pot. I will also add some little extras in there.

All other relevant information will go out in a PM.

First weigh-in is Tuesday. Good luck everyone! :thumbsup2

I agree... The eat less is gonna kill me. I tend to eat when I am stressed out.. and lets face it I have 3 kids so I'm always stressed out....

LOL I used to say that until my experience today!! :scared1:

Now, I'll drink the water. :rotfl:

I really want to make this happen this time. Last time I didn't do very well.

I think most of you have seen my pics from when I was skinny and it's hard to fathom how I let myself get this way now. I used to weigh 125 lbs!! And I'm 5'9"!!

In the beginning it was more of an emotional issue. I didn't like the constant attention and I noticed when I started gaining weight, I could blend in more. It was safe.
Now it's like food is my drug that I turn to instead of alcohol or cigarettes when I am stressed out.

Plus I hate to excercise. lol

I just want to say thanks Kat for doing this and I hope we can all meet our goals, whatever they may be!!! :thumbsup2

I'm an emotional eater too... I eat when I am stressed. I eat when I am happy. I eat when I bored. I eat when I am sad. I eat to celebrate (or do I celebrate so I can eat?).

My life revolves around food. Especially carbs.

I am hoping to make some major changes in 2007 :wizard: but sometimes I wish I could just go to sleep and wake up a year from now 80 lbs slimmer :teeth:

Thanks for starting this up Kat !! :thumbsup2

For me, I just like to eat :rotfl: I like food !!!

I have never been skinny, I'm pear shaped and always gain weight in my bottom half  it sucks, nothing fits me right, they don't make clothes for my body type and I hate it !! when I was younger I was more active so I didn't look so bad, but since I've been working at home, I've just gotten lazy and bigger ! I have no will power at all, but I am going to give this a shot and hope for the best !!! good luck everyone !!!

I'm an emotional eater too. It sucks because it used to be if I was upset, I wouldn't eat. That equaled a 120 pound me. Now its the opposite. I also eat out of boredom. I also eat because I like sweets.

I will start tomorrow with drinking more water. Especially after your tale today Beth. MORE WATER!

Thanks Kat for doing this again :cheer2:

I love to eat, especially sweets, and pizza and basically anything bad for you. I am a very picky eater, I only like apples and pineapple when it comes to fruits and there aren't a ton of vegetables that I like either. BUT I hate the way I feel and especially the way I look. I know I have it in me to lose the weight, I have done it before, I just have to force myself not to eat the cheesecake or ice cream etc. when we go out to dinner!

I gave up soft drinks about 2 weeks ago and have switched to unsweetened green tea and I always drink water. I have noticed a difference already in that I don't feel so bloated. I am also leaving the sugar out of my coffee. I am also taking healthy snacks to work instead of sweets, and have switched to 2% milk instead of whole. Hopefully I am on the right track! I think once my hours switch in the next month or so that will help me also as I can get something healthy in the cafeteria for dinner.

Chris and I recently purchased a home gym and have an elliptical machine, starting today he and I are going to work out together. I have been doing the weights for a couple of weeks but need to get back on the elliptical for cardio workouts.

Good luck to everyone  Hopefully we will all meet our personal goals and feel better about ourselves.

(will put check in the mail on Tuesday Kat, unless I feel adventurous and walk out to the mail box this morning ;) )

So tomorrow is the first weigh-in huh???

Hmmm, what do I want for dinner/dessert tonite.....:rolleyes1

Nah, I'm kidding. For me it's not going to be about deprivation as much as control. If I want pizza, I'll have pizza. But a normal human amount like one slice or maybe two, NOT 5 or 6!!! :scared1:

Same with sweets, if I am craving some ice cream I'll go out and get a frozen yogurt rather than buying a gallon of ice cream and eating it all at home.

I think for me that's just more realistic than trying to go cold turkey on everything. I've tried that before and while it starts out great, and I lose alot in the beginning, it doesn't work long term and I always end up feeling deprived, cheating, and then blowing the whole thing.

Hopefully this time will take longer, but be more long term and permanent weight loss. :)

I just wanted to check in and say good luck to all of you.

Giving up sodas was hard for me but now I'm use to the water. I do drink diet when I go out to eat, but it's water or 2% milk all the rest of the time.

I started out in January very doing very well, but by valentines day I felt like I had blown it.

So tonight I'm going back to Curves, I've been twice in 2 weeks :sad2:

I'm going to approach this the same way one would eat an elephant, one bite at a time. Little small goals that at the end of a week will make me feel like I've accomplished something.

This week's goals: 1) Get my booty to Curves 3x
2) Eat out only once for lunch

Good Luck Everyone You Can Do It!!!!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

So what's everyone having for the "last supper" tonight?

We're having tacos tonight. My family LOVES tacos. I am going to have to find a bit of an alternative in the future... maybe load mine with more veggie filling than meat and fat free sour cream instead of a bunch of cheese. That doesn't sound half bad...maybe I'll try it tonight :thumbsup2

I was going to start last Tuesday but when it was decided not to start this until tomorrow... I just tried a couple small things like drinking more water and going for a couple walks. Been going good so far :thumbsup2

You can really make those alot less fattening by changing simple things. Use fat free sour cream, light cheese, Morningstar veggie meat crumbles or lean turkey instead of ground beef, and lots of lettuce, and tomatoes. Also fresh salsa is good too, gives it some flavor without adding alot of fat or calories.

See, I know how to do these things. I just don't do them. :sad2:

And for those who like Taco Bell like me, you can order certain things from their menu al fresco and it saves alot of calories and fat.

That makes a lot of sense. The attitude is the first step.

I am eating cheese and crackers and will probably make a smoothie before I go to a meeting tonight. Food issues are interesting at my house lately. My husband has had good success on Adkins in the past, so he is back on that. My son, who is a huge carnivore, has given up meat for lent. My son and I have both had good success with South Beach. I really like the plan, and other then Phase 1, I don't feel like it is a unbearable. However, the prep time for the foods--like a lot of other plans--is just not practical on a long term basis.

So, I am thinking I will just go with the "eat less, move more" strategy. And, try to make wiser food choices. I can't wait for the warmer weather--I will get back to walking.

Good luck everyone!

I had a late lunch so havent eaten dinner yet. DS requested I make Tuna fish Sandwiches.. He gobbled it up. I'm glad he is a good eater. Sometimes I have to monitor him though cause he sometimes likes to sneak food.. Or will say he wants a snack almost immediately following breakfast or lunch. He needs to stop growing so fast!!!! yummm, chicken tacos are the best! I am drinking green tea too. I have found that it doesn't give me a headache if I drink a lot of it like regular tea does.

I had the grilled chicken tostada salad from Applebees for dinner. I didn't use any dressing so I figure it can't be too bad. I guess I had my last big dinners over the weekend. I went to Cheesecake Factory on Friday (and yes, I had cheesecake) and ate out 2x on Saturday, lunch (Italian) and dinner (Thai), so Sunday I felt sick :lmao: I guess Italian and Thai don't mix so well, even though it was 6 hours in between meals.

I know I can't give up everything good, and really that wouldn't be much fun always having something bland to eat. Amazingly it hasn't been that hard to give up sodas. I did have some ginger ale Sunday to help ease my stomach and I did have a coke one day last week. When I really want one I will have one, but not 2 or 3 everyday like I was. I'd rather not drink them at all than drink diet, just can't stand that stuff.

Chris and I exercised for over an hour this morning, I sure feel it in my arms tonight! It really helped having a partner, it made me do more than I normally would have, hopefully we can keep it up and both look and feel better! We both have about the same amount of weight to lose.

I like seeing instant results, so I know that is going to be my biggest problem. I have a lot of weight to lose and know it is going to take time and effort. I just have to keep repeating that to myself each time I get on the scale and it is not going down as fast as I want it to. Plus, lifting weights I know is going to add muscle weight at first and I might even gain weight before I lose so I need to understand that and not get discouraged.

I am so not looking forward to getting on the scale in the morning. No offense ladies but I will not be sharing my weight with anyone but Kat, I am so ashamed of myself :sad1: Chris forced me to tell him the other week what I weighed, that really was hard, not because he was going to judge me but because I feel like such a failure having gained this much weight. I really, truly hate being fat but have not done anything about it for so long. It goes back to the instant results thing, I just had too much to lose and felt like I could never get it all off so what was the point. Time to get a new attitude along with a new body:wizard:

Sorry to babble, I am bored

I think I just found the motivation to go back to the gym . . . I've been paying for a membership that I haven't used in forever. I like a little healthy competition. I lost a whole bunch of weight two years ago and then we had that "thing" Katrina and I put it almost all back on. My BF is a negative motivator--he wants to eat out all the time--its hard to resist restaurant temptation. Its almost impossible to tell them you don't want fries with that or to order grilled chicken salads all the time. Thanks so much gals! I need all the help I can get.
BTW for those of you who are able--you will burn more calories all day long if you lift weights in the morning!!

Teresa, I wish I knew how to do that. That's a good topic to try and look up I think. Good ways to satisfy candy cravings without going overboard.

We have a jar of candy in the front of our office. I hate it because I cannot walk past it without getting a piece. Its usually filled with chocolate and I am weak when it comes to chocolate. A couple of times they have filled it with stuff I don't like and that works well but they keep putting the Dove chocolates in there. :sad2:

Good morning everyone! Today is the first weigh-in day.

I know alot of us are going to get on that scale and not like what we see this morning. I sure didn't. But we have to start somewhere.

Kendra, you do not have to share your weight here. No one does. And I forgot to add that last year, I told anyone who wanted to know my weight to let me know. Its only fair that you're sharing that with me, you have the right to know mine. So if you want to know, I'll tell you. :thumbsup2

I'm going to start with listing my goals for the week:

1. Drink more water during the day

2. Stay away from the candy dish at work (its empty right now - so today that part ought to be easy. ;) )

3. Walk home at least three times this week from the mall

4. Try to take at least one "extra" walk this week.

Feel free to list your goals for the week as well.

These first few weeks of trying to change patterns are going to be the hardest so lets help each other get through that.

Let the weigh-in begin!

Goals for the week:

1. Walk for 30 minutes at least 3 times this week
2. Drink a full 64 oz of water every day
3. Make better choices when eating out (no fries, no dessert)
4. Grab a yogurt or jello when sweet cravings hit

I'm also going to make the weight watchers 0 point veggie soup today. It's about 20 calories per serving:

3 cups nonfat beef broth or nonfat vegetable broth or nonfat chicken broth

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tablespoon tomato paste

2 cups chopped cabbage

1/2 yellow onion

1/2 cup chopped carrots

1/2 cup green beans

1/2 cup chopped zucchini

1/2 teaspoon basil

1/2 teaspoon oregano

salt & pepper

1. Spray pot with non stick cooking spray saute onions carrots and garlic for 5 minutes.
2. Add broth, Tomato paste, cabbage, green beans, basil, oregano and Salt & Pepper to taste.
3. Simmer for a about 5-10 minutes until all vegetables are tender then add the zuccini and simmer for another 5 or so minutes.
4. I have tried different variations. Leaving out green beans. Adding chopped green onions in addition to the yellow onion.
5. All very good. You can customise it a bit.

Any advice on how to curve my sweet tooth I would appreciate it.
I wouldn't try to go cold turkey. If you have a craving for some chocolate then indulge it with one piece of bite size candy. If need be ask your DH to help you with this by hiding the candy and only bringing out one piece a day for you.
Maybe that will help satisfy the craving without going over board.

Good Morning everyone! I was pleasantly surprised when I got on the scales this morning. I had already lost 2 lbs from my small efforts made last week (probably water loss or whatever they call it but still motivating!).

Kendra, you are not babbling - I think its great that you are bringing up all these challenges. It helps you by talking about it and it helps us by motivating us :thumbsup2

My goals this week are to maintain what I started last week (which was to drink the 8 cups of water per day or more and do a couple walks) and also the following:

1. Create a meal plan for the week and coinciding grocery list and stick to it when I go shopping.

2. Stock my drawer at work with healthy snacks so I don't give in and hit the unhealthy cafeteria.

I like that we are all taking the approach of baby steps - consistentcy will get us to our goal :thumbsup2

Kendra, one thing that might help is taking your measurements. Since you will be adding muscle, if you don't see the scale go down, it might help to keep you motivated if you see the inches melting away.

Debbie, I would have to take out the cabbage, but otherwise that soup looks good.

Kelly, way to go, on losing weight already!:yay:

Kat, I am putting the check in the mail this afternoon.:thumbsup2

Okay I went looking for some pics of myself that I could use as a "before" photo. It wasn't easy since I hate having my pic taken but I think I found some I could use.

And I will post my current weight since I don't care who knows, and anyways most of you have seen me in person so it's not a big deal.
You might want to make sure you sit down before you read it though. It's 284.

This is me on the last ladies only trip and the head shot is from a few weeks ago, so they are both as recent as I could find.

I don't mind posting those or my weight because I am hoping those will be a thing of the past and it will only get better from here on out.

Even if it's slow going and I only lose a pound a week, that's fine. I just refuse to gain anymore.

So that's my goal, just a steady loss.
It took me several years and four kids to gain this weight, and I know it's going to take alot of work to get it off, but I am ready to try. :thumbsup2

Slow and steady wins the race. If you feel deprived, you'll give in to temptation and go overboard.

This sounds very wise!

Hey all! Looks like everyone is psyched up and ready to go today!

SO, I need to have a plan for the week? Are you telling me if I fail to plan, I really plan to fail???

After weighing myself and having my coffee (1% milk, and luckily I don't care for sweetener in my coffee, I made a smoothie for breakfast. That was yummy and I think very good for me.

4 oz pomegranate/blueberry juice (no added sugar)
8 oz cold water
4-6 oz nonfat plain yogurt
1 banana
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
8 frozen strawberries

I put all this in a blender, then poured in some Splenda and Fiber Sure. It is quite good. I like it better this way then eating the fruit and yogurt and drinking the juice. I know pomegranates and blueberries are supposed to have magical properties so that is why I use those. I used to use a frozen banana too, but it was too thick to drink. So, now I defrost the banana before I make the smoothie. Yeah, I freeze bananas when they get to the "perfect ripeness". If you do this, be sure to peel them before freezing! I am not sure how they would be for other stuff, but they are fine in smoothies. I think the fiber help me feel full for awhile, and I know that I don't get enough fiber in my diet, so that is why I add Fiber Sure.

I better go PM Kat with my weight. See you later, losers!

Chicken tacos! I love chicken tacos.

Or you could try eating an elephant one bite at a time like Tammy. :confused3

I am going to have a cup of chicken chili and some green tea later. There will be a little sugar in the tea. I've had a lot of Diet Coke today.

Hey! There's a definite strategy there, do you know how hard it is to find fresh elephant ;)

I've been only half good today so far...

I had a breakfast burrito for breakfast --my boss brought it in for me, what was I suppose to do?

I had a salad for lunch with fat free ranch and a South Beach bar for a snack (aka cardboard), and I've got 1/2 of my water for the day in so far.

Water Water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. I am sitting at a table on a balcony at a condo in Perdido Key FL looking at the Gulf of Mexico. . . so my diet doesn't start until tomorrow when I get back home . . . but I have an idea to motivate you water drinkers! Go to a camping or outdoor store and buy yourself a fun colored nalgene water bottle (mine is pink) They hold 1 liter at a time. Make yourself a little chart and put a little star down for each bottle you finish. If you have 14 stars at the end of the week get yourself a fun disney sticker to decorate your water bottle with!!
Oh and I think water is boring so I keep a bottle of "Real Lemon" juice in my fridge and I add 1 or 2 squirts to every liter so that it has some kind of flavor . . . the lemon juice won't hurt your diet . . . I promise!

My favorite low carb salad:

Philly Cheese Steak Salad

Grill or saute some peppers and onions. Cut up whatever kind of leftover grilled meat you have in the fridge (steak, chicken etc etc) making sure you remove any excess fat. Dress some lettuce, tomato and whatever else you like in a green salad lightly with red wine vinegar (no oil) and black pepper (no salt). Top with your grilled veggies and meat. Throw some low carb, low fat shredded cheese on top, I usually use part skim cheese--and not alot--just a sprinkling. Nuke it for as long as it takes to melt the cheese and Voila! a philly cheese salad!

I did okay.

Breakfast was cereal with blueberries (frozen in honor of FC).

Lunch was a Lean Cuisine Panini with a granola bar for dessert.

Snack was a yogurt.

Dinner was a Lean Cuisine rice/vege bowl.

Now the hardest part of the day will be resisting the urge to do late night snacking!!

I am trying to not eat after 7 p.m. which will be a real challenge since I am usually up until midnight or later, and once the kids are in bed the snacking begins.

I am going to try replacing all that snacking with drinking water. Of course then I'll probably be up all night peeing!! :lmao:

I used to bring a huge bottle of water to work with me in Seattle. I'd get half my water in at work and half at home. I am going to try that again I think. They might get a little snippy at work if I start drinking my way through all the bottled water in the fridge.

I've never heard of Perdido Key. Is that off the Panhandle somewhere? Whereever it is, I hope you're enjoying the beach.

1. Exercise at least 4 days for an hour (2 down, 2 to go)

2. Increase time on elliptical by 2 minutes per day

3. Make healthy choices when dining out (or at least not make a hog of myself  )

4. Drink more water

Good luck everyone :cheer2:

Green Tea only counts towards your water intake if it is decaf! Anything with caffine counts against your water intake because caffine dehydrates you. Alcohol counts against too!

Woot! :woohoo:

Okies since some people had posted recipes I think that I will post one that I thought would be intresting and good to try.

Spicy Black Bean Burgers

Serves: 6
Serving Size: 1 patty

These burgers are spiced to perfection. To make them even spicier, you could melt jalapeno soy cheese on each patty and serve topped with salsa. Reprinted with permission from HOW IT ALL VEGAN! by Tanya Barnard and Sarah Kramer (www.GoVegan.net) Arsenal Pulp Press.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup flour
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 small hot or jalapeno pepper, minced
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 medium red pepper, diced
2 cups cooked or canned black beans, mashed
1/2 cup corn niblets
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/4 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp chili powder
2 tbsp parsley, minced (optional)

DIRECTIONS
1. On a small plate, set aside flour for coating. In a medium saucepan, sauté the onion, garlic, oregano, and hot peppers in oil on medium-high heat until the onions are translucent. Add the peppers and sauté another 2 minutes, until pepper is tender. Set aside.

2. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a potato masher or fork. Stir in the vegetables (including the corn), breadcrumbs, cumin, salt, chili powder, and parsley. Mix well. Divide and shape into 6 patties.

3. Lay down each patty in flour, coating each side. Cook on a lightly oiled frying pan on medium-high heat for 5-10 minutes or until browned on both sides.

De-Stress in 3 Minutes or Less
Stop Emotional Eating Before It Starts
-- By Dean Anderson, Behavioral Psychology Expert

What is the single, most common problem that most dieters face when trying to lose weight? Will power? Nah. Temptation? Sometimes. Emotional eating? Bingo! That’s why it takes so much more than good intentions and information about nutrition and exercise to be successful. The ability to manage difficult situations and feelings effectively—without turning to food and eating—is a necessary foundation for a successful weight loss plan and healthy lifestyle.

Fortunately, there are many proactive steps you can take to keep functioning on all your mental cylinders during tough times. These steps range widely from basic relaxation techniques to the development of a reliable support network. Other options include:
Keeping a food journal to help you identify your emotional eating triggers
Cultivating mental and emotional well-being through practices like meditation, mindfulness, massage, and yoga
Developing good problem solving skills
Turning to the Message Boards for help and support when you need it; offering help to others as a way to get your mind off your own troubles and gain a little perspective on things
But all of these things take time, and there are many instances when you need something you can do right now, to keep yourself grounded, focused and able to make good decisions. After all, you don’t always have time to take a walk, relax in a hot bath or call a friend to talk things over. That’s what we’ll be talking about here—a 3-minute trick for handling stressful situations in the moment.

Minute 1: Stay Grounded
Emotional eating happens when you lose your connection to your grounded self. Stress itself is not what makes you reach for something to eat. In fact, stress is often a good thing and your grounded self knows this! We need the physical stress of exercise to keep our bodies in good shape just as we need the stress of intellectual and emotional challenges to keep our minds healthy.

Nine times out of ten, what really leads to emotional eating is getting caught in a "mind storm" of worst-case scenarios, projections, misinterpretations, and all the emotional overreactions that come with these thoughts. This "storm" turns a manageable challenge into something that makes you feel helpless, overwhelmed, ashamed or afraid—and sends you to the kitchen to find something to stuff those extreme feelings. When you can stay grounded in the moment of stress, you have many more options.

Here are some simple ideas to keep you grounded when something (or someone) pushes your buttons and your feelings start to spiral out of control:

Take a few deep breaths. (You can also count to 10, if that helps.) If the stressful situation involves someone else, take a timeout and agree to continue the discussion in a few minutes.
Remind yourself where you are. Take a look around, noticing and naming the colors and shapes in the space around you.
Notice the physical sensations you are experiencing. Whether it's a sinking feeling, turmoil in your stomach, tension in your hands or jaw, restricted breathing, or heat on the back of your neck, try to name the feelings that go with the sensation. Is that sinking feeling fear, or dread? Is the heat a symptom of anger?
The idea here is to stay in your body and in the moment—with what’s real—instead of going inside your mind where all those unreal scenarios are just waiting to get spun out-of-control.

Minute 2: Reality Check
Once you’re calm enough to start thinking productively, put all those thoughts that are clamoring for attention inside your head through a quick reality check. Here are several very common thought patterns that have no place in reality. Do any of these apply to you?

All or nothing thinking
Example: You go over your calorie limit or eat something on your “forbidden” list, and then decide to keep eating because you’ve already “blown it” for today. Reality: Weight loss is not a one-day event. If you stop overeating now, you’ll gain less and have less to re-lose later. That’s something to feel good about!

Reading your own thoughts into someone else’s words
Example: Someone made a mildly critical or unsupportive remark to you, and you feel completely devastated. Reality: The more bothered you are by such remarks, the more likely it is that you are being overly critical of yourself. When you treat yourself with respect, what others say won’t matter nearly so much.

Either-Or thinking
Example: You make a mistake or have a bad day and feel like a complete and hopeless failure. Reality: No one does well all the time. Mistakes are a necessary and valuable opportunity to learn—if you don’t waste them by getting down on yourself.

Taking care of other people’s business
Example: Something is going badly for someone you care about, and you feel responsible, or pressured to fix it. Reality: People need to learn from their own problems. You aren’t doing anyone a favor by trying to fix things just to make yourself feel better.

Minute 3: Putting Things in Perspective
Most common problems that you face in everyday life are much easier to handle when you keep them in perspective and avoid making mountains out of molehills. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to make sure you aren’t in the mountain-making business:
How big a deal is this, anyway? If I knew I was going to die in a week, would this be something I would want to spend this minute of my remaining time on?
Will any bad things happen if I postpone thinking about this until I have more time to figure things out?
Do I have all the information I need to decide how to respond to this? Do I really know what’s going on here, or am I making assumptions? Am I worrying about things that might not even happen? What do I need to check out before taking action?
Is there anything I can do right now that will change or help this situation?
Am I trying to control something I can't, like what other people think, say, or do?
Have I really thought through this problem, and broken it down into manageable pieces I can handle one-at-a-time?

Use this approach whenever your thoughts or situations begin to feel overwhelming, and you'll quickly find that the mountains that seem impossible at first can quickly morph into what they really are—manageable hills that you DO have the ability to climb. All it takes is three little minutes of your time.

Great first day Beth!

My first day was going well until I and had chinese take-out for dinner, though my portion was much smaller than I would have had ordinarily, and I did my 30 minute walk. I've been going through a pretty challenging time right now, and as usual, I use food for comfort. My major goal is to break that habit.

Great article Wendy!

I signed up both Jess and Jonathan for gymnastics at the Y. Jon will go on Monday's and Jess on Tuesdays. That will give me 45 minutes of workout time, two days in a row. :yay:

It sounds like everyone is off to a really good start with making small changes and not going nuts.

My worst habit was getting into bed at night and reading and snacking. The worst thing you can do, eat right before bed. So that is the habit that I am trying to break this week.

Also, I am addicted to coke, so I am limiting myself to one per day. I bought some of those Minute Maid Light Drinks in a can, I think I bought Raspberry Passion (or something like that), they are only 10 calories per can, and so I grab one of those instead of a coke.

Me either. It's one thing to go public here about my weight, it's another to do it on tv!!

I did ok yesterday until night time. Sure enough, that was my down fall. I ended up snacking on a mini bag of light buttered popcorn and a piece of chocolate.

Oh well. It could have been worse. I managed to leave the cookies and cream ice cream alone. :thumbsup2

And today is a new day. Sounds like everyone is doing great!!! :cool1:

I used to go to OA meetings and they said forget about taking it day by day. Sometimes you just have to take it hour by hour.

I have made out a grocery shopping list and am getting things like apples and carrots to keep on hand for snacks. As well as some Crystal Light to help with the water intake.

Good luck to everyone and keep the ideas, recipes, and tips coming!!! :yay:

Thanks Debbie.

I use food for comfort too. Heck, food is my drug of choice. :sad2: So I know how hard that is.

I think you did good. If you think of this as a life long change then you'll realize that getting Chinese take-out isn't that bad.
It's not like you are never again in your life going to order take-out, or have a piece of birthday cake, or a Christmas cookie. kwim?

It's more about portion control which it sounds like you did, and getting moving, also something you did. And not doing those things on a daily basis but rather on occasion as more of a treat.

For example, we will have a family get-together for Easter. I already know that I want to enjoy myself and eat what I want that day along with the rest of my family. So between now and then, I will do my best to stay on track, allow myself to spurge that day, and then get right back on track.

For someone like me who uses food as comfort, that's a much better way of doing it. It's something that is planned rather than just a random binge that was brought on by stress or whatever.

In any case, I think you are doing great!!! :cheer2:

My worst habit was getting into bed at night and reading and snacking. The worst thing you can do, eat right before bed. So that is the habit that I am trying to break this week.

Also, I am addicted to coke, so I am limiting myself to one per day. I bought some of those Minute Maid Light Drinks in a can, I think I bought Raspberry Passion (or something like that), they are only 10 calories per can, and so I grab one of those instead of a coke.
Whoo-hoo! Go Jenna!! http://bestsmileys.com/exercising/9.gif

Sounds like you are really off to a great start!! And night time snacking is also my weakness. Nothing like climbing into bed with a movie and a bowl of ice cream. :sad2:

Oh wait!! Yes, there is!! Going on a new shopping spree cause all the old clothes are to freakin big!!! ;) We'll just have to hold onto that thought when the temptation strikes.

After all, we are planning a mall shopping day in November. Wouldn't it be great if we all treated ourselves to some new skinny clothes by then. :cool1: :cool1:

Good afternoon girls!

Wendy, great article.

Beth, you have to be realistic about weight loss and I think you are. Anyone who thinks I'm not having HOB pasta this weekend is crazy. I will enjoy that and do my best the other days of the week. This particular methodology is one reason I really love WW. You can plan for your splurges and know they won't destroy everything you've done.

Jenna, great about the Y. I need to check out those swim lessons. If I could even go up front I'd be doing good. But I am starting to think working out with a bunch of people would be better that with that one super skinny chick or buff guy using the weight room. ;)

Beth, that's kind of how all this got started. My boss used to do that, if you lost a size, she would get the gift card for a clothing store. That's where the idea comes from. Its fun to go buy yourself a new outfit when your other ones are getting too big.

Imagine how many sizes we could lose before November. :goodvibes

We are off to a pretty good start.

I had a little mishap today. Cooper and I were at the arena watching Cassie skate and we were cold. I went up to the canteen to get us some hot chocolate and proceeded to put 3 creamers in each and then when I was halfway through drinking it I remembered that I am trying to watch what I eat :sad2: I can't believe it slipped my mind like that :confused3

Oh well, the hot chocolate helped us warm up :thumbsup2

Kat, that is a great idea about getting the gift card after losing a size. I might try that out.

I have done that so many times. Not that exact thing but you know what I mean.

These bad habits of mine have been going on for so long that I will do stuff like that without even thinking about it or realizing it.

They say it takes 30 days for something to become a habit. So I just have to keep working at drinking the water and making better choices.

Tonite I had good intentions but they went overboard. :sad2: I made some rice and veges for dinner. But they were so good I had two huge platefuls!! Now I am stuffed.
Oh well. It has to be better than a couple slices of pizza. Hopefully......:rolleyes1

A couple of plates of rice and veges has to be better than pizza. At least you eat veges too. I can't stand the things.

It sures sounds like everyone is off to a good start. I think at this stage, becoming aware of eating habits is an important first step to replacing them with better habits. I like to start my day with a smoothie. For lent I gave have given up one meal a day, and I am surprised how well that is going. My thought was to skip lunch, and just not eat between breakfast and dinner. However, there are days when I have lunch plans, so I will skip one of my other meals. Probably breakfast.

There is a guy at work who keeps a dish of those oversized mint lifesavers at his desk. When I am hungry, I have one of those. Something about the mint acts as an appetite supressant. Also, when the hunger starts working on me, I read from my lent book.

Hopefully you are not doing this  and dismissing me as some holy roller wacko. However, I did attend a few weeks of a 12 week course (I have yet to complete the course! Maybe I'll pick it up at during another session) at my church. The course is called the Light Weigh. It is pretty heavy on Catholic doctrine. As I said, I did not finish the class. However, I did get an important message from the class. The theory is that we stuff our selves with food to try to fill some void. Obviously the goal of this class was to fill the void with God, and the method was through teaching of Catholic history and such. My summary was that we were to fill our heart hole, not our pie hole! Anyway, I think there is something to this. While I think God will work for my heart hole, you may fill your heart hole some other way. When we are satisfied in our hearts, we will not have to keep stuffing ourselves with food. If ou want to learn more, I think you can find them at lightweigh.com.

Off to do the dishes! Oh, fish and french fries for dinner!

I find if I am craving something sweet, a small glass of lowfat chocolate milk will help me.

The hospital was having free ice cream sundaes tonight, and even though it hasn't ended yet I have avoided the temptation so far, my victory for the day!

I am craving pizza so bad, I think I will treat myself to that this weekend.

It is very good. I am sipping one now. The original recipe calls for 6 oz of lowfat yogurt and 8 oz of fruit juice. I modified those two items to cut calories. The 4 oz of pomegranate/blueberry juice with a bit of Splenda makes it plenty sweet for me.

Kat, are you doing WW now? Anyone else following an organized diet plan?

Another Article for the day. Hope ya'll arent sick of me posting them.

The Truth About Carbohydrates
Not all Carbs are Created Equal
-- By Becky Hand, Licensed & Registered Dietitian

It’s true. A carbohydrate-rich diet can inflate appetite and girth. Low-carb diets do promote short-term weight loss, but are accompanied by some severe dangers. So what should you do? The truth is, you can have your carbs and eat them too—you just have to know how to choose them.

The Truth about Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are the body's ideal fuel for most functions. They supply the body with the energy needed for the muscles, brain and central nervous system. In fact, the human brain depends exclusively on carbohydrates for its energy.
Carbohydrates are found in fruits, vegetables, beans, dairy products, foods made from grain products, and sweeteners such as sugar, honey, molasses, and corn syrup.
The body converts digestible (non-fiber) carbohydrates into glucose, which our cells use as fuel. Some carbs (simple) break down quickly into glucose while others (complex) are slowly broken down and enter the bloodstream more gradually.
During digestion, all carbohydrates are broken down into glucose before they can enter the bloodstream where insulin helps the glucose enter the body’s cells. Some glucose is stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles for future use, like fueling a workout. If there is extra glucose, the body will store it as fat.

All carbohydrates are not created equal.
There are basically three types of carbohydrates:

Simple carbohydrates are composed of 1 or 2 sugar units that are broken down and digested quickly.

Recent research has shown that certain simple carbohydrate foods can cause extreme surges in blood sugar levels, which also increases insulin release. This can elevate appetite and the risk of excess fat storage.

Complex carbohydrates (also referred to as starch) are made up of many sugar units and are found in both natural (brown rice) and refined (white bread) form. They are structurally more complex and take longer to be broken down and digested.

Complex carbohydrate foods have been shown to enter the blood stream gradually and trigger only a moderate rise in insulin levels, which stabilizes appetite and results in fewer carbohydrates that are stored as fat. Unrefined or ‘whole grain’ carbohydrates found in products like brown rice, whole wheat pasta and bran cereals are digested slowly. They contain vitamins, minerals and fiber which promote health. Fiber and nutrient-rich vegetables, fruits and beans which are carbohydrates also have many important functions for the body and are important for good health.

Indigestible carbohydrates are also called fiber. The body is unable to breakdown fiber into small enough units for absorption. It is therefore not an energy source for the body but does promote health in many other ways.
Simple carbs, complex carbs, and fiber are found in many foods. Some provide important nutrients that promote health while others simply provide calories that promote girth.

Sugar, syrup, candy, honey, jams, jelly, molasses, and soft drinks contain simple carbohydrates and little if any nutrients.
Fruits contain primarily simple carbohydrate but also valuable vitamins, minerals, fiber, and water.

Vegetables contain varying amounts of simple and complex carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fiber, and water.

Legumes such as beans, peas, lentils and soybeans contain complex carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and protein.
Milk products contain simple carbohydrates along with protein, calcium and other nutrients.

Grain products contain complex carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and protein. The amounts vary depending on the type of grain used and the amount of processing. Selecting whole grain options whenever possible is recommended.

What You Should Know About Low-Carbohydrate Diets
Following an extremely low-carbohydrate diet is disastrous, dangerous, and above all—boring! Carbohydrates are NOT the enemy. Including the appropriate amounts and types of carbohydrate-rich foods in your diet is essential for long-term health and weight loss/maintenance.

The Body’s Immediate Reaction to Very Low Carbohydrate Diets
When there is a severe deficit of carbohydrates, the body has several immediate reactions:

With no glucose available for energy, the body starts using protein from food for energy. Therefore this protein is no longer available for more important functions, such as making new cells, tissues, enzymes, hormones, and antibodies and the regulation of fluid balance.

When carbohydrates are lacking, the body cannot burn fat in the correct way. Normally carbs combine with fat fragments to be used as energy. When carbs are not available, there is an incomplete breakdown of fat that produces a by-product called ketones. These ketones accumulate in the blood and in the urine causing ketosis, which is an abnormal state. Ketosis does cause a decrease in appetite because it's one of the body's protection mechanisms. It's an advantage to someone in a famine (which the body thinks it's experiencing) to lack an appetite because the search for food would be a waste of time and additional energy.

Due to the lack of energy and the accumulation of ketones, low-carb diets are often accompanied by nausea, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, bad breath, and dehydration.

Because of dehydration and a lack of fiber, constipation can result.
Exercise and fitness performance is reduced on a low-carb diet. Do not be surprised if your energy level is so low that you cannot make it through your normal workout routine.

The Long-Term Effects of Low Carbohydrate Diets

~When you severely restrict carbohydrates, your consumption of protein and fat increases, which has several long-term effects:

~The risk of many cancers increases when fruits, vegetables, whole grain products, and beans are eliminated from the diet.

~Protein foods are also high in purines, which are broken down into uric acid. Elevated levels of uric acid in the blood may lead to needle-like uric acid crystals in joints, causing gout.

~Kidney stones are more likely to form on high protein, ketosis-producing diets.
Over time, high protein diets can cause a loss of calcium and lead to osteoporosis.

~The risk of heart disease is greatly increased on a low-carb diet that is high in protein, cholesterol, fat, and saturated fat. A temporary reduction in cholesterol levels may be experienced, but this is common with any weight loss.

The Million Dollar Question
How do you include carbohydrates in you diet in a safe, effective, and controlled way? The “Please KISS Me” (Please Keep It So Simple for Me) plan for carbohydrate control is a wonderful tool that only contains 3 simple rules:

RULE 1: Include the following in your diet:

Fruits: 2-4 servings daily
Vegetables: 3-5 servings daily
Whole grain breads, muffins, bagels, rolls, pasta, noodles, crackers, cereal, and brown rice: 6-11 servings daily
Legumes, beans and peas: 1-2 servings daily
Low-fat and non-fat dairy products: 3 servings daily

RULE 2: Limit the following to less than 2 servings daily:

Fruit Juice
Refined and processed white flour products (bread, muffins, bagels, rolls, pasta, noodles, crackers, cereal)
White rice
French fries
Fried vegetables

RULE 3: Eliminate the following from your diet or eat only on occasion:

Sugary desserts, cookies, cakes, pies, candies
Doughnuts and pastries
Chips, cola and carbonated beverages
Sugar, honey, syrup, jam, jelly, molasses

That’s it! A simple, effective carbohydrate-controlling plan that, when combined with your SparkDiet, allows you to reap the countless benefits of complex carbohydrates and fiber while enhancing your health and maintaining a healthy weight. The long term result will be a healthy you!

I forgot to say when you send your weight in, send your actual weight, not "I lost two pounds" You can say that too but it makes it easier on me if I can just look at the weight and not have to do the math on it before entering it on the spreadsheet. :thumbsup2

Well, I did not do good for dinner tonight, yes we have already eaten. Jonathan has soccer at 5:00 and Jessica has open house at her school from 6:00 to 8:30. I thought DH was going to be home to help out, but one of our friends is in the hospital, his kidneys have stopped working (just like what happened to DH's dad), so he is there with him. So we got fast food, which I said I was not going to do, but it could not be helped today.

So sorry to hear about your friend. I know that is stressful.

Given the way our society is, I think that we will all likely end up at a fast food place every now and then. The trick is to go in with a plan and not look at the menu. Maybe we could each post healthy or light eating options at some of the majors, then when we "unexpectedly" end up in one of these places, it is not a big deal to order something that is not too damaging to our goals.

At one point I know that McDonalds included nutritional information on the back of the tray liner. I don't remember #'s, but I do remember that a hamburger did not seem to be too bad on fat and calories, and the grilled chicken is a good option as long as you hold the mayo and other hi fat sauces. If you just get a burger with a big diet soda to and grab some of your kids' fries, that is not too bad.

Anyone else with ideas on making fast food work with our goals?

You can also get the salads that many of these places offer now. I would get the grilled Chicken ones. The dressing comes in a bag so you can decide how much goes on it. If you end up at a Wendy's you could also just get a chili and baked potatoe. (I'd ask for all the toppings and such on the side.) Whenever I end up at Subway w/ my son I always just get a 6" meal and split that between us. We share a soda and the chips. It works out pretty well. I personally try to avoid burgers... Unless it has been a looooong time since I've had one. We dont go to fast food joints that often so sometimes I think it's okay to treat yourself. When I do though I dont get a meal. The fries are just baaaaaaaaaad! :sad2:

It depends. If it's Taco Bell, I already posted how you can order certain things fresco style and they will replace the sauce and cheese with extra lettuce and salsa.

At Burger King, if you get a Whopper make it a Jr. one and leave off the mayo. Don't eat fries and get a diet soda. They also have a vege burger which isn't bad.

I think just ordering a kids meal for yourself would work as well, simply because again, you are cutting down portion size.

I didn't do it, but I bet if you Google healthy alternatives at some of those places you'll get a list of what's not too bad to eat there.

Jenna, I'm sorry about your friend.

I agree about getting the kids meals instead. If you're going to have fast food, and you really want that burger, its better than some of that stuff they have. Salads are a good idea but I just can't seem to order a salad if I am going into a fast food place. The ones at Chick Fil A do look good though. Maybe I will have to put my wrap aside and give one a try.

I have read that french fries are the worst part of a fast food meal. So if you just have a sandwich, well a sensible sandwich and not a triple cheeseburger with bacon and mayo ;) then I wouldn't worry too much about fast food from time to time. Arby's plain roast beef sandwiches are not bad, something like 10 or 11 grams of fat. I did weight watchers points for awhile, I ate Pizza Hut personal pan pizza's on that and still lost weight. I lost 13 lbs in 4 weeks, then I quit going :sad2:

You have to be careful with salads too, sometimes the dressings are very high in fat and actually may have more fat/calories than a slice of pizza :scared1: I was at Cheesecake Factory last week and they had "light salads" that only had 600 calories! I can't imagine how much the regular salads have!!!

Have you ever tried the Lean Cuisine pizzas? They aren't too bad. Also there are a few frozen pizzas that have a wheat crust with some veges. And you could also make your own using a Boboli pizza crust and adding only a little sauce, some light cheese and lots of your favorite veges.

All of those options would allow you to still have pizza with the family without feeling like you are being deprived. :thumbsup2

Quote of the day:

"Forgive, Forget, and Forge ahead."

So if you make a mistake (like I did yesterday for dinner) just forgive yourself. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Forget about it. Don't keep thinking about it over and over.

And forge ahead. Don't say "Well, I already messed up by having ________, so I might as well have _____, ______, and ______ too!" Instead just get right back on track with your next meal.

Good luck ladies!!! We are heading into the week-end. Dangerous territory for some!! But I know we can do it. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Get Fit Without Leaving the House
Home Gyms are Practical and Affordable
-- By Liz Noelcke, Staff Writer

Imagine a gym you can commute to in seconds. It’s open 24-hours, so you can come and go as you please—on your time. It’s comfortable, and you feel completely at ease when you work out there. Oh, and membership is free. You may be daydreaming, but the perfect gym is a dream that can come true…in your own home.

There is no reason that you can’t make a home gym part of your reality. A home gym adds convenience and privacy to your workouts. When you exercise at home, you save time, money, and the rush hour headaches (on the road and in line for the elliptical). Although you might be cautious due to budget and space limitations in your house, building a home gym isn’t as impractical as you might think. After all, gym memberships can occupy a large portion of your budget at several hundred dollars per year.

The Basics
Remember, you want to build a gym based on your own personal needs and fitness level. As you progress, you can add on equipment, so don’t feel that you need to buy everything at one time. Your gym can be as simple or complex as you want.

Dumbbells (Free weights): A good set of dumbbells will help you start a strength training routine. There are two basic options when it comes to dumbbells. You can buy single sets based on the weight you want to lift. These are often metal, but can also be covered with a rubber material to keep them from slipping out of your hands. Expect to pay $15-$20 for a pair of 5-pound weights. Prices will increase as the weight goes up. A second option is to buy an adjustable dumbbell set. This includes two handles (or bars) for you to grip, as well as plates of varying weights that can be attached. Depending how many plates you get, expect to pay at least $60 for a set like this. Fancier versions can run up to $350 or more.

Resistance Bands: Bands are great because they are compact, portable, and allow for a wide range of motion. Resistance bands come in three or four different levels of resistance and usually run around $15 for one band. These can be used pretty much any way that a dumbbell can be used, so if you are in a budget crunch, these might be the better option. To learn more, read “No Need to Stretch the Truth About Resistance Bands”.

Stability (Swiss, Balance, Physio) Ball: An exercise ball, no matter which name it goes by, is simply an oversized inflatable ball. These are extremely versatile, and not just for core workouts anymore. You can sit, lie, and balance on them during almost any exercise, rather than investing in an exercise bench. Plus, this unstable surface targets your core muscles and improves your balance and coordination. The balls come in different sizes (based on your height and weight), and a rainbow of colors, and cost around $25 apiece. Read “Exercise with a Physioball” to learn more.

Exercise Mat: Place a good exercise mat on the floor to stretch comfortably, cushion your body during floor exercises (from crunches to modified pushups), and prevent slipping while lifting weights. Consider this a must if you do a lot of Pilates or yoga. Plus, they can roll up out of the way for storage if your space is limited. For about $20 you can get a sticky mat (for Pilates and yoga), which is thin—but better than a hard floor. The price goes up for larger and thicker mats.
Once you’ve purchased some or all of the basics, you’re well on your way!

The Extras

Cardio Machines: Next, consider a piece of aerobic workout equipment. Whichever you choose, make sure your machine has different resistance levels to allow for workout variety and challenge as you progress. Also available, for a price of course, are computer systems with timers, calorie counters, RPMs (for bikes, ellipticals) and even heart rate monitors. Before you make a major purchase, try one for several minutes in a store. While it might be tempting to buy the cheapest available, you’ll want to make sure you are investing in a solid piece of equipment that you are comfortable on.

If you like running and walking, a treadmill is a good option. Keep in mind, however, that running outside is free, while these machines are costly—at least $600 for the most basic model.
Stationary bikes or elliptical machines are more affordable alternatives. Elliptical machines, which cost at least $400, are low-impact (and fun!). Bikes come in two different varieties, recumbent (like sitting in a chair with a backrest) and upright (standard seat) and also cost at least $400 for a decent model.
Of course, a jump rope is a cheap piece of equipment that can also get your heart pumping!

Workout Bench: Space and budget allowing, a good workout bench is a solid investment. Look for one that adjusts at varying angles (incline, flat, and decline). Many benches start at around $90. Make sure to purchase a sturdy bench (test it out for length, width, weight limit) to support you effectively while you work out.

Universal Gym Machine: Finally, the king of home workout equipment is an all-in-one weight machine. You’ve probably seen them on infomercials, but are also available for purchases in many stores. They will run at least $800, but are often well over $1,000. These machines include a bench and various pulleys and weights, which combine all the machines in a commercial gym into one compact unit, allowing you to do squats, presses, curls, and pull downs.
All of these pieces of gym equipment are available in a variety of places—sporting goods stores, department stores, websites, and by catalog. For a great deal, consider purchasing gently used equipment. Look through the classified ads, auction websites, and even garage sales. If possible, test it out before you buy.

Set Up
Start small. A few basic pieces of equipment are all you need. You don’t need 5 different weight machines to have a great gym, although if your budget and house allows it, consider yourself blessed. Keeping just the basics on hand will help make healthy lifestyle goals much more attainable.

Make sure you have enough space for your gym. Choose a room with a high ceiling (so you won’t hit your hands while working out), and a sturdy, clean floor (to prevent slipping). Finally, add some good lighting, ventilation (possibly with a fan), and a stereo to crank your favorite tunes, and you’ve created a gym that you can really enjoy!

I have been thinking a lot about this... in the past when I have been doing really well with weight loss and then I travel, I of course give myself permission to go all out while I'm away but I always fall off the wagon, so to speak, when I get home. I need to figure out a plan for any travelling I do in the future so that I don't give up when I get back.
Do you think it better to limit yourself while on vacation or maybe just loosen the strings a little, like having desserts at a couple dinners, etc or is it better just to let yourself go, eat everything you want and pay the price later....

Manchego and brie cheese, peppadew (they are sweet/spicy South African peppers, have had them at Jiko and in New York, just found out i could buy them at Whole Foods), rustic pane bread. The cheese and the bread are not good.

I had turkey and brie panini for lunch. But I'm having wine.

Don't be bummed Kelly. You can do this. There will be many more week-ends and many more pizzas. lol The key is learning to deal with it.

If you want a slice, have one!! One slice will not kill you. If it's large then cut it in half. Take off any meat toppings so it's just cheese, blot the oil off the cheese with a paper towel. And eat it slowly.

Don't do what I do and wolf it down in three bites. :sad2:
Savor it, enjoy it. Maybe even put it on a fancy plate and eat it with a fork and knife. Make it last. And then have a side salad and some water on the side. It will be fine.

As for being hungry often, I am the same way. I think in my case it will take time for me to get used to not eating all the freaking time!! Cause that's what I would do. Literally. I would always be snacking on something. Even if it wasn't "junk" I was still putting something in my mouth.

Drink lots of water and you will get used to it. :)

Where is everyone today?

I gave in to the pizza last night. I had 2 pieces but I think I managed to just barely over on my WW points by about 2 or 3 which fits in with my flex points for the week. I was very good later when I was offered ice cream at Cassie's skating carnival and then even better later when Scott made nachos as a late night snack. :thumbsup2 So all in all, 2 pieces of pizza isn't bad.

Well then you did just fine! Ice cream and nachos are not easy things to say no to, so good job Kelly!!:cheer2:

I don't know what rice noodles are, I guess, but how bad can they be? I am sure you'll do fine. Anything in moderation.... :)

This week-end had been a little tough for me, actually this whole thing has. But, I am okay with whatever the scale says on Tuesday since I realize that I cannot change many years worth of bad habits in just 7 days.

But I am trying and doing better than I had been, so that's the important thing. And even more important is no matter what the scale says I will be sticking with it. :thumbsup2

Checking in everyone.

As far as eating on vacation and getting back one when you get home, that's how I do it. Vacations don't send me over the edge on my eating. Emotions do. I know I won't eat the way I will on vacation when I get home so I allow myself that luxury. I know it doesn't work that way for everyone but it goes o.k. for me. Also, with all that walking you do at WDW, it really counteracts alot of it.

AdventurerKat

Kelly, that is the great thing about WW, you can working in anything you want as long as you plan for it. Pizza is not your enemy. Eating too much of it is. But a slice or two once in a while is not going to make or break your weight loss.

I'm planning out what I am going to have for lunch this week. I am going back to the Subway plan for lunch. Its easy, relatively inexpensive and I know how many points it is.

I don't think the scale is going to be happy with me this week after all the liquor I drank last night, but maybe it will work out ok. :rolleyes1

Rice noodles are noodles made with rice flour. I put too many of them in my soup. I have two containers of noodles and chicken to last me the week. I finished the cheese, so no more cheese this week.

Next weekend it will be me drinking all that alcohol and I have two nights to do it.

Good Morning

Well I am looking forward to tomorrow morning. I think I did really well this week, even with the pizza :thumbsup2

Catherine, I think, but I don't know, that cutting out the cheese this week will make more than enough room in your calories intake for rice noodles so you will do great :thumbsup2

About the vacation thing, I really think I would have to let myself go and eat/drink what I want. Maybe by then though, my stomach will have shrunk so much that I won't be able to stuff it the way I imagine or I can just eat half of everything, app/entre/dessert. That would be plenty filling enough anyway. My garbage disposal husband would be able to eat the rest anyway and not gain an ounce. :furious:

You have been sending some very nice notes to me too. Thank you. I am glad to organize this as I really believe support and incentive go a long way in weight loss.

Right now we have $80 in the main kitty and $45 in the mini kitty. If everyone who I have on my list right now stays in, the top will be $75, $50 and $25. If not, I will make up the difference. I was thinking how ridiculous I would look asking for a Disney GC for $46.67 :rotfl:

Tomorrow I will post the first mini-challenge. That will have three prize winners as well. Future ones may not but I think this first one would be good to have more than one person.

I can't wait to see how everyone's first week went. :goodvibes

Are you getting the DP for the trip with your friends, Kelly?

I'm not really sure yet Kat. It depends on what comes out for AP discounts or public discounts. They will be getting it for sure. They really like the idea of prepaid. It really helps with the budgeting. If a good AP discount comes out, I will get the DDE for my family. If the discount is good enough, it might be a good idea for me to book their room and have them just use my DDE. We will have most meals together... They will be on their own for maybe 1-2 dinners. :confused3

It's very weird that when I go to bed hungry, I don't wake up hungry but when I go to bed full, I wake up starving :confused3

I am the same way Kelly! Good to know I am not the only strange one around here :rotfl: Also, if I eat when I first wake up, then I want to eat all day long, but if I wait for a couple of hours before I eat then I am fine :confused3

I did okay this weekend I guess, I didn't eat very much but what I did have were not good choices. I didn't have any deserts or snacks, just meals so I guess that wasn't too bad for my first weekend. I have noticed that I cannot eat as much as I had been able to so I guess my stomach is noticing the difference in my eating habits :goodvibes I don't feel like I have lost anything but I guess I will find out in the morning :scared:

Kelli, its hard to get started sometimes. Can you get yourself to Target or someplace and get a scale? That's the first step here.

Kelli--you mean this is not working for you yet. It is never too late to start. When you say you cannot stop snacking, are you eating more since you decided to do this? If so, maybe you are fearful you will not be able to eat. If that is so, make sure you plan what you will eat so in your mind you know that you will be eating. The other thing you may need to do is clean your environment. It is harder to eat things if they are not readily accessible. You can do this! It has only been a week. :grouphug:

Maybe you need to just break one or two habits at a time and not try to do everything at once. Is there something that you eat every day and it is not so good for you? If so, maybe you can decide to eat it just one day a week.

Tomorrow is weigh in day and the start of the first mini challenge! I will see you all in the morning.

4. Drink more water at home (tend not to drink much just sitting at home)

Kelli, you can do this. It's not easy but it can be done. Like the others said, start small. It takes time to get into a new habit.

And if you are used to snacking then that's fine. Some people need to eat several mini meals as opposed to 3 main ones. If the urge to snack comes then grab some baby carrots. Or some of those 100 calorie mini bags of popcorn. Maybe drink a big glass of water along with it.

I think one thing you have going for you is you are very active. Always on the go, so you can actually afford to eat more and snack more then someone like me for example who is just home all day and doesn't exercise.

We are here for you. You can do it. :grouphug:

I do that all the time Jenna. There were so many times I quit cause I wasn't happy with how fast I was losing or what I was losing.

Then a whole year will pass and all I can think is "Man, if I'd stuck with it and even if I'd only lost a 1/2 a pound every week, in a year that's 24 lbs!"

Now 24 lbs for someone like me isn't much, but it's something. The time is passing anyways!!!! We might as well be losing something along the way.

Soon you will be meeting them all.

It sounds like you have great goals for this week although speaking from experience I know how hard it is to go cold turkey on the soda. I still allow myself one small glass a day of the Diet Pepsi. And boy do I savor that! :rotfl:

Anyways, you did great! And you should be proud. :thumbsup2

And just think of the big picture. If all you did was lose even 1 pound a week between now and the trip, by then you'd have lost approx. 32 pounds!! And I don't even think you need to lose that much! We don't want you to blow away. ;)

Good morning everyone! I hate it that I can't be here like I usually am, its ticking me off. Stupid job. :badpc:

I will be on after work to post about the mini-challenge and check in with everyone.

Shirley, I sent you a PM.

Beth, you had an AWESOME first week.

Kelli, those doctor's scales are the best kind. They are the most accurate represenation of your weight. I swear everytime I go to a doctor and he weighs me I weigh more than my scale says. I hate that. So that's a good place to do it, you'll know you have the right weight.

I somehow managed to lose a pound this week. I have no idea how. :confused3 I ate the whole bowl of HOB pasta on Saturday (let's be honest...I probably would have licked the bowl if it was publicly acceptable) and I drank...alot. But I think the water loss helped me out this week so that's where I am.

For reference, we have 34 weeks til the trip. Think of a pound a week. That's 34 pounds. Alot of you don't have near that much to lose but those of us who do, even that one pound a week is going to make ALOT of difference.

The first challenge is going to have to do with weight loss in the beginning of this challenge. It comes off easiest at the beginning and I want some happy faces before we hit the proverbial "plateau". I will post more when I get home tonight.

I still won't share my weight but I will say I want to lose at the minimum 75lbs, but my real goal is to lose 90. Oh it is so discouraging to think of it in those terms, but I got myself in this shape and now I have to get myself out!
Really Kendra? I'm not trying to be dense but you honestly don't look like you need to lose that amount. :confused3

My total goal is to lose a 130 lbs. which will put me at 150 and that's what I weighed when I got married. I was happy with that. I don't think I'll ever be skinny like I was in high school and quite frankly I don't want to be. I wasn't healthy and did crazy things to be that skinny.

Anyways, my point is you just don't look like you'd need to lose anywhere near 75 and definitely not 90. And I understand about hearing high numbers like that and just feeling overwhelmed. Believe me.
But set little goals and reach those one at a time.

My first goal is to lose about 30 lbs before we move to Vegas which is in June.
Do you have a smaller goal you could set? Maybe for an upcoming trip or somthing?

What are you nuts Beth?! 4 pounds is awesome! If you use your own formula, that will be 128 lbs by Nov. 1!! Now, go get your self a nice glass of water you BIG LOSER! :cheer2:
128? Hmmm, I wish. LOL I think you meant 228. ;)

I haven't seen 128 since senior year in high school. And don't think I ever will again. Heck at this point I'd be happy to say I was under 200!!! :rolleyes2 :)

Sounds like everyone had a great first week. Beth, 4 pounds is great! I lost 1 1/2 pounds, so I am pleased with that.

My goal this week is to get to the Y, two times. I will go once tonight while Jess is in gymnastics, and then I need to go one other time!

Hi Shirley!! Good to see you. :wave2:

I'm not Kat, but I know she didn't want anyone who wanted to lose weight to be excluded. The only rule she had was if you were in the top three from last time, you can't win this time. BUT as far as the support you know we are all here for you. And any weight loss at all makes us all winners!! :cool1:

Plus we want you on this trip!!! :)

:wave2: Hi Beth, good to see you too.

I feel after seeing the pictures of us from the last trip that I really need to do something. If I wasn't afraid of scaring the gkids I would hang them up around the house. :lmao:

I have gained back 7.5 lbs total from the last challange. 3 lbs of that was within the last week. http://bestsmileys.com/sad/2.gif

I will be pm you regarding the trip. http://bestsmileys.com/excited/3.gif

Okay, well, I've avoided it long enough. lol

I have already posted my starting weight and pics back on page 3. So that's no secret. I plan to keep posting my weight along the way, it keeps me honest and accountable.

I started at 284, and am now at 280. So, I lost 4 lbs.
Honestly, I was hoping for more, (that's my impatience talking).
But I'm okay with it. It's a start and it's 4 lbs less to carry around. :)

I hope you join us Kelli...the little changes you make in your life can only help get you going in the right direction.

I was able to lose 4 lbs this week! YAY! I am very happy with that :goodvibes
I know that a lot of that was water loss and I won't be able to get such great results every week but it helps to get ahead for when I hit the plateau. :thumbsup2

Good for you Beth! You did great despite your worries!

And just think of the big picture. If all you did was lose even 1 pound a week between now and the trip, by then you'd have lost approx. 32 pounds!! And I don't even think you need to lose that much! We don't want you to blow away. ;)

This is the formula I was talking about. 4 lbs x 32 weeks =128 lbs lost! I don't think you should be 128 lbs total--how would we see you in November if you were that little?!

I am down about 2 lbs--2.4 on my digital scale, actually. :upsidedow

I have to grab Sage from the bus but I remember reading something about this previously and I thought I would pass it on. Especially for those of us who may not be exercising too much at this point, about how many calories to cut based on your activity level. Anyways, its an article so you can go here to read it. I had previously heard 15 X Weight in pounds = calories per day to maintain your current weight level, but I guess that means if you're actually doing something. I sit on my butt in my office all day...I'm not sure that counts.

Anyways, if you're interested:

Back!

O.K. Here is the first mini challenge!

Starting today and running through May 15, for a total of ten weeks.

As most of you have probably figured out in your weight losing attempts before, its a bit easier to lose weight in the beginning - especially when you're giving it all you've got. You're motivated because you're seeing those results, you haven't hit those dang "plateaus" yet. So this challenge will go directly to that, knowing that at this point we're going to be trying to give it our all! :thumbsup2 (In like a lion as was said)

There will be three winners in this mini-competition.

The winners will be those that have lost the highest percentage of weight by May 15. Top prize will be $20 in Disney Dollars, second prize will be $10 in Disney Dollars, and third will be $5 in Disney Dollars. I will also throw a little extra something in there, not sure what yet.

You DO NOT have to weigh in on May 15 to make that your final weight. I will also take weight the week before because I know for some of us girls, May 15 may just not be the best day of the month to weigh in. ;) So you may give me your final weight for the mini competition on May 8th or May 15th.

Good luck everyone! :wizard:

1. More water!

2. Walk home from the mall at least three times (I have already done this two days in a row now)

3. Do at least one "extra" round of exercise of some sort (may be swimming this weekend)

4. Cut back on the soda intake

5. Not drink huge quantities of alchohol and eat a huge bowl of pasta (ok- that last one will be easy this week ;) )

6. Stay away from the candy dish that they refilled. :sad1:

Kat, that was a really good article. I figured out that to maintain the weight I am at now, I was eating around 3640 calories a day!!!! :faint:

Wow. Although considering I could easily wolf down 5 slices of pizza, I don't think that's too surprising. So even if I was eating around 2000 calories now, I'd still be better off and losing weight.
Interesting.

Caffiene is a diuretic. doesn't help if you need liquid. The only calorie-free liquid that's good for that is water.

But I want caffiene and I want a drink that tastes like something.

I used to drink a 2 liter of Diet Pepsi all by myself in about a day, maybe day and a half. I was addicted and didn't think anything could break me of that habit.

Well, when you get a kidney stone that is no bigger than 2 mm but still brings you to your knees in so much pain you are literally screaming at strange nurses and begging them to give you something, that breaks you of that real quick!! :lmao:

Seriously, I know no one drinks as much diet soda as I did, but cutting back and drinking more water is just a good idea all around.

For the record, I do still allow myself a small glass of it every day as a treat. I need my caffeine too. ;)

Well, tonight sucked. Big time.

I knew I was stressed from that phone call from my Grandma earlier but I did good. I avoided running to the fridge for comfort and I even made myself a dinner of a Lean Cuisine panini and a salad.

Then it all went to hell. It started with some garlic bread I made for the kids and I took a piece of that. Then another. Then another. Soon that wasn't enough and I was in full on compulsive eater mode. It ended with a huge binge and now I feel ill. Literally sick to my stomach from all the food and bummed that I lost control like that. Damn.

But what's done is done. Just gotta pick up and move on. Do better tomorrow.

I have to learn ways to deal with my stress besides eating. These next few months are going to be hellish. Moving is so stressful and with the circumstances I am moving under, it's even harder. I can't binge everytime I get stressed out.

I need some kind of plan to help next time I am tempted to binge. I think just putting on the CD from the ladies only trip and just blasting the music will help. I can even ask the kids to come dance with me. Anything to take my mind off of food and keep me out of the kitchen.

We can all do this. Our goals may be different but whether it's 15 lbs or 115 lbs to lose it's damn hard!! But together I think we can all make it happen.

And I just want to say right now that if any of you need to talk to someone about it at anytime, I am usually home and you can feel free to call me.

I don't know if any of you have ever been to AA or OA or any of those programs, but having a sponsor is a big part of it. Someone you can call at anytime to just say, hey, I am about to lose it and really fall off the wagon here, can you help me?

Have you ever considered including water fitness into your exercise routine? This can be a great way to increase strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health. Plus, during the months of summer heat, what is a better way to keep cool?

Water has great properties; one of the best for working out is its resistance power. You can work opposing muscles at the same time. For example, if you are doing curls underwater, pulling up will work the biceps, while pushing down will build up the triceps.

Another great feature about water is its buoyancy, which is simply the tendency or capacity to remain afloat in a liquid. It reduces your weight, therefore putting significantly less stress on your joints, bones and muscles. Compared to other exercises such as running, there is no impact on any of your joints. It is estimated that body weight is compounded up to five times during the heel strike when running or jogging. This is avoided in water. Water fitness requires use of your core as well, that is, utilizing your back, abdominals and obliques. This muscle group is often ignored during other exercises.

There are many ways to get fit and stay cool in the water. Most obviously, perhaps, would be to swim laps or tread water. But you can also jog in the water. Additionally, there is a variety of products available that can increase the resistance in your workout, including buoyancy belts and dumbbells, gloves and noodles. You can actually lift weights underwater.

While exercising in water is totally different from exercise on land, your approach to water exercise should be the same. Continue to warm up and stretch before you start the workout. Maintain the same amount of repetitions you would for exercises out of the water. Also, continue to mix up the exercises you do. Your body needs a variety of exercises, regardless if it’s on land or in water.

Another bonus to water exercise is its usefulness during special circumstances. Ask any professional athlete and they will tell you water exercise is essential when dealing with an injury. It allows you to continue exercising without putting any stress on your injury, thanks to its buoyancy discussed earlier. Also, because your body is supported by water your heart rate is slightly lower, meaning aquatic therapy is relatively safe for obese individuals, pregnant ladies and those suffering from hypertension and heart disease.

Exercising in the water is easy, but for obvious safety reasons it should never be done alone. It’s easy to find someone to exercise with though. Look into classes at your local health club. If none are available or fit your tastes, just grab a buddy and find a pool. When summer ends, you don’t have to stop including water fitness as part of your workout routine. Find an indoor pool and keep going. Have fun enjoying the benefits of a refreshing workout.

Congradulations to all of you. :cool1:
just reading all the pages is helping me.
Two weeks ago I didn't think i could do it.
but I think i'm hitting the bottom.
So many of my work clothes that I've been wearing are not fitting now. :worried:

Plus with Valerie trying to lose weight, I going to try.

I don't excercise. In the Spring I can walk from the train station.
I'm going to eat what I want but in moderation and cut back on the carbs.
No more 5 slices of pizza on Friday night. :sad2:
I did it this way 3 years ago and lost 2 sizes but am about a size and half back up.

I'm going to buy a scale this weekend so I can get encouraged and discouraged at the same time.
I'm very happy with a slow weight loss. It's better then none!

thanks guys!:goodvibes

And thanks for posting EVERYONE,you don't know how much it has helped me. I'm so close to tears right now....I've been really doing awful, but today I'm going to get back on it for real. At lunch I'm going to pick up a jornal, writing down what I eat is the only way to keep me honest with myself and on track.

And I'm going to Curves when I get off work. I keep saying I'll go tomorrow, but then tomorrow comes and I feel tired I skip. My weight is going back up and my energy level is bottoming out, I've got to get back. Everything I've worked for through the first month and 1/2 of this year is all but gone, so I need to turn it around now. Thanks everyone!!

So I walk in and they have put more candy in the candy dish. Only this time its Hershey's dark chocolate with almonds. :worried:
Blech! Yuck! Gross!! Dark chocolate??? Nasty!! You don't want that. It tastes terrible. I bet they are spoiled too. Crawling with maggots. Barf! Yuck. Stay away. Have a yummy sub sandwich with lots of veges instead. :thumbsup2

(hey, I'm just tryin to help, lol)

Beth, I am sorry that you fell off the handle lastnight. :grouphug: After dinner lastnight I wanted to snack -really- badly.. Like Kelly I couldnt get food off my mind. I ended up falling asleep watching DH play his new PS2 game. So I lucked out lastnight.

Like Kelli, suggested I pop a piece of gum also when I get that urge.

I went for a power walk yesterday and then went to Curves this morning.

My goals for this week:

Work out 3 times (Already did two)
Only eat when I am hungry
Stop eating when I'm full
Pick healthier things to snack on
Wendy, sounds like you are doing great!!!

Congradulations to all of you. :cool1:

Oh, that's great Joanne!! I am so happy you decided to join us!! And yes, a slow weight loss is better than none. The time is passing anyways, might as well be losing weight along the way. Even at a half a pound a week, it will add up!!

Tears?????? What do you mean tears? I don't want to hear about tears. You better just pick yourself up out of this slump and get your act together. Do you hear me missy??? Can you hear what I am saying to you?? Answer me!!

(this is where you'd say "yes drill sergeant")

There is no room for tears here. Know why? I'll tell you why. Because you can do this. You are strong and tough and you can pull yourself up by your boot straps and get this done.

You will keep a journal and you will write in said journal. You will write down everything you eat as well as what you are feeling. The journal is your friend. Do you understand me??

Not only will you write in your journal, you will haul your butt to Curves! That is an order. There will be no excuses. We do not tolerate excuses on the DIS. Understand??
You have worked hard and you most certainly are not going to blow it now. When you want to quit are you going to quit?? Are you going to just give up????

(here you'd yell "no drill sergeant")

Are you???

(again "no drill sergeant")

Good. Because you can do this. I have faith in you and you will not make me look like a fool. You will use your journal and you will go to Curves. And in November when you see your friends at Walt Disney's World, you will be a skinny witch. And they will hate you as you prance around the POP pool in your new bikini with a Blue Goose in your hand!

Is that clear???

BTW, I did get my journal and at first I thought I'd get one that I could stick in my purse to carry every where I went. But then I realized that's exactly where it would be, buried in the land of the lost that is my purse, not out in plain sight as a reminder of my goals. So I got the bigger one, it's about the size of a paperback book.

This week's goals:

Buy and keep a food journal (half way there)
GET TO CURVES
MORE WATER
NO PEEPS :rotfl: *starting today, I had some yesterday :sad2:

Tammy, don't give up, just get back on it today. I am the queen of putting off exercise, I did go yesterday, so now you owe me a day where you have to go. Then if you go again, I will owe you a day at the gym....hey this could work out good.

Being around skinny girls is always a good motivator. ;)

I'm going to make myself walk home today from the mall so I have my three out of the way. That's my exercise for now. I am trying to make a good schedule to hit our gym, at least a couple times a week.

One more hour to lunch.
Water can be boring. Try keeping some lemon with you to add to it. Or try the flavored water. Although I didn't care for it, you might like it. Also you can get those Crystal Light packets to go, and add those to a bottle of water to give it some taste.

Thanks so much, you are the best
No, we all are. And we all deserve the best. We all deserve to feel good about the way we look. And right now, I don't. So I am going to change that.
It might take awhile, and it won't be easy for any of us, but we can do it.

Now, don't think I'm crazy or anything but I used the "drill sergeant" when I was home with the twins a few weeks after they were born. Ruben was at work, I was home alone with four kids and just exhausted.

There was one day when I just was so over worked I sat on the bed and started to cry. I didn't think I could get up and care for myself let alone 2 small children and 2 newborns.

Then this voice just came into my head in a "drill sergeant" form. Kind of yelling at me saying if I didn't get up and take care of business no one would. Kind of like, "get up soldier, on your feet, move it, get busy and do what you gotta do."
Maybe it was some kind of weird post-partum thing but it worked. :rotfl:

(Now you think you are rooming with a total wacko!! :lmao: )

Anyways, I just remembered that and thought well, if it worked then maybe it will work now. Not to say we should all go around talking to ourselves. We might lose weight but we could end up on a psychiatrists couch!!

But just when the going gets tough, kind of step outside of yourself and give yourself a little pep talk in whatever way works for you.
For me, it's the drill sergeant. I just think of those movies where you see the men and women all lined up and the sergeant all up in their face yelling and being all tough.

I don't know about you, but that gets me moving!! LOL Anyways, as odd as it may sound we all have to find what will work for us and use it.

Now just don't be surprised when you see me in November and I've got split personalities! :rotfl:

My hint is mints. Try those big lifesavers you buy in a bag instead of a roll. They also come in sugar free. I think there is something about peppermint oil that curbs the appetite. Also, I don't like to eat anything when I have that minty fresh mouth. I try to keep them handy. Usually they take long enough to eat that I am distracted from the food and on to something else.

Beth, you are onto something with the CD. Try putting the ones you think will help in your pantry--or where ever the food is. If you see the CD there, it will remind you to do something else.

Did I miss something? Are we supposed to be posting weekly goals?

Hey, Wendy! I noticed you are gonna cook with chicken. I found this Salsa Chicken recipe on WW today. I am gonna try it later this week. I thought I would share. Not sure if you are doing WW or not.

Here it is:

Salsa Chicken

Servings | 8
Estimated POINTS® value per serving | 3
Course | Main Meals

Ingredients
4 Chicken breasts(can even be frozen)
2 cups Salsa(use your favorite)
1 pkg taco seasoning
4 oz cream cheese

Instructions
Place chicken in a crockpot, cover with salsa and taco seasoning. Cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 4 hours. Take chicken out and shred. Add cream cheese to salsa mix and melt. Then add chicken back and warm through. If you don't like really spicey food, then don't put the chicken back in the sauce. Really good for burritos, taco salad, etc.

Special Notes
We have it with a tortilla, rice, black beans, tomatoes, olives, cheese and broil until cheese melts. Also really good served over rice.

Thanks for the recipe January.. I'll have to try it out the next time I cook with chicken. I went ahead and just baked mine with a lipton noodles packet. Turned out pretty good!

As for the weekly goals. I dont know if we are sopposed to. I just saw other people doing it so thought I'd post mine as well. :teeth:

Hi girls! http://bestsmileys.com/peeping/5.gifI am just peeking in at you all! I think that you all are doing awesome! I had fun last year doing this...I just wish I had stuck with it!

Kat---If you don't mind if I post here to offer encouragement and recipes and such, I would really like to!:) I am on WW and I am learning new recipes and tips and stuff all the time that I would love to share!

Beth---Love the drill sargeant post! Very motivating!:rotfl:

Good luck everyone!!
Thanks January!! It's good to see you here. And thanks for the recipe too! Sounds good.

Mints would work too. That's another good idea.

As for the goals, as far as I know, it's up to you if you want to post them. I don't because mine are always basically the same. lol Eat less, move more, and drink lots of water. :thumbsup2

Well, I just finished dinner. It was a cup of vegetable soup with half a vege burger, no mayo, just mustard, lol on a wheat bun.

I just hope I don't get hungry later. That's still hard, the dreaded late night snacking. :scared1:

But if I do, I have some of those 100 calorie mini bags of microwave popcorn I can make.

Hope everyone is having a good night.

Go ahead. I think the size is DIS legal. But I'm the one with 20 signature points and a sarcasm warning.

Well I made it through lunch out with friends, I had a small cup of chicken chili and a half of a turkey sandwich, no mayo, but it did have cheese.

The hardest part was that we didn't meet until 1:00 and I was starving. Since starting this I am eating my lunch at 11:00 or 11:30. But I didn't touch the bag of chips, and those are my downfall!:thumbsup2

January, thanks for the Salsa Chicken recipe, I am going to try that next week!

I love that we are posting recipes, that is one thing about dieting, it can get boring.

But we tend to eat out a lot both fast food and restaurants, so these first couple of weeks, I am just trying to cut that out, and I figure anything I make at home has got to be better than fast food.

Also, since I am not a big veggie eater, I am adding fruit to all of my meals.

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow!

Here is a Weight Watchers recipe for Margarita Chicken, it is delicious! I used the boneless breasts, yummy!

Margarita Chicken
1/2 cup frozen nonalcoholic margarita mix - thawed

3 tbsp lime juice - freshly squeezed

1 clove garlic - crushed (or more)

3 pounds broiler or fryer chicken - cut up (3 to 3 1/2) OR 1 1/2 pounds skinless boneless chicken breast halves

Coarse salt

Mix margarita mix, lime juice and garlic in a large resealable freezer plastic bag. Add chicken to bag. Seal and turn a few times to coat chicken. Refrigerate, turning bag occasionally. Marinate at least 1 hr, but no longer than 24 hrs. Remove chicken from bag & reserve marinade.

On your grill place chicken, skin side up on grill, Brush with marinade and sprinkle with some salt. Cover grill with lid & grill 5 to 6" from medium heat for 15 minutes. Turn chicken, brush with remaining marinade and sprinkle with more salt. Cover & grill 20 to 40 minutes longer until chicken tests done.

Beth, love the drill sargent, it's great! Whatever it takes to keep you motivated.

Catherine- love the R. Lee Ermey pic you did for Beth!

I try to stop and think, is this food really going to taste good enough to be worth the guilty feelings later? If the answer is yes, then I eat it! If it's no, then I pass. Well in theory anyway, sometimes I still eat it and then feel bad ;)

The journals sound like a good idea!

Keep up the good work ladies!:wizard:
