View Full Version : inspired by Matts eulogy

After reading Matts touching eulogy about his cyber friend Mike it got me thinking, If anything happened to you would we all know about it? there are a few regulars on here where practically all the family are members and would let us know if, heaven forbid, something terrible happened to one of them, but what about people like me? no one else knows my password and to be honest if it came to clearing out my stuff I really don't think any of my friends would be inspired enough to check my history and inform the DIS board if I died, I'm not even certain if anyone else knows how much time I spend on here or how much my cyber friends actually mean to me.
Do you have any help in place to let us know if anything happens?

I know this will sound awful, but there have been dissers on here that have for no apparent reason just totally stopped dissing, i know one really enjoyed dissing on here and was quite a regular then bam -nothing??

DH and DM both know I post on the Dis. Doubt if DH would even know my username. Although I'm sure my DM knows it because she used it post on the Dis. If something happened to me I'm not sure that either one would have the presence of mind to post here.

yes, Netty, there are a couple that spring to my mind, I really hope nothing serious happened.

well i hope my mom would get intouch with the people on my mobile, one of which is a dis friend so they could say. Not sure if she would think of that though. I don't know about my msn mates though.

Funnily enough I was thinking exactly the same thing last week! DH knows that I spend loads of time on here but I doubt if it would occur to him to let anyone know, I don't think he would know how to either as he never uses the internet. Noone else knows that I belong to the Dis, so one day if I stop posting with no warning then you know what happened. :sad2:

Thankfully my DD (madmouse91) comes on here, so she would let you all know if I head off to that big Castaway Cay in the sky ;)

You could always put one of our emails in your address book, would someone think to contact your friends then? :)

I was talking to Wils about this same subject today Carol. If I suddenly stop DISing I don't know who would look out for me! Only my sister knows I am on here, and to be frank I have no clue if she'd bother to look and tell the people on here if I had kicked the bucket.. :sad1:

Perhaps maybe one day I could consider telling them about all of you guys. :) Then they MIGHT come and tell you if I kicked the bucket.. Otherwise I have no clue how they could tell you if I went to the other side..

Wils said that she notices things really well, so I reckon she might be the one to start asking questions... Then again I am sure there are many people here that would notice me if I went.. Perhaps you could start scanning newspapers, start asking questions about me etc etc.. Otherwise I got nothing.. :lmao:

Perhaps we could start something?? If we go offline for a period of time perhaps then someone could start asking questions???? No idea...

My DBF and my mum know that I come on here a lot but like others have said, they wouldn't know my user name or my password :sad2: I chat to a few people on here but only on here. It's quite sad to think about I suppose :grouphug:

 Matt, I think what I actually said (or meant ;) )was that more often than not I don't notice when people are away (I am pants!) I would in the longer term but it can be hard remembering when people are just on Disney and non-Disney trips.

DH knows about the DIS and could probably guess my user name but it might take him a while :) - was going to mention it to him just now but probably not the best time as he is having surgery today :scared1:

DH knows i post on here, and he posts on some of the other boards forums on here. I doubt it would enter his mind to tell anyone though!!

This is a very sad thread, and really makes me think how 'close' I feel to people on here even though I have never met any of you :grouphug:

I was just thinking the same thing Kathryn.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile sharing emails with the people on the boards that we feel close to:)

I agree, would it be prudent to get a 'buddy' list so someone, somewhere knows details of someone else?
I don't mean for it to be obligatory or anything just 'in case'.

I'm happy to organise it if its ok by the Moderators.

Perhaps we could post if we are interested in participating in an email group. Then we could make a list of all of the email addresses of the people in the group. Then email the list to everyone in the group.

What I was thinking of was just pairing people up to share contact details etc so that if 1 of the pair disappears the other half will know where they are.

I am happy to join in with whatever is decided :)

I have also wondered about this....

Perhaps there could be a 'Sticky' thread where each of us posts the email address of a next of kin who could be contacted if someone wasn't around for a while. You do start wondering if you don't see someone for a while - are they ill, in hospital etc....

I think this is a lovely idea, I think that Ian would be sure to let you know if something happened to me, so I won't join in, but great idea everyone.
