I am just learning to digital scrapbook and thought it would be fun to start a thread with digital scrap pages. Here are a few of mine from the Norway Dinner (cause you can never have too many Princess Pics ;-):

I love princess pictures. Very cute! I have a boy, and I'll never get to make a princess page. :guilty: Lisa, were those templates, or did you do them all yourself?

Bob, I love filling the whole page with a picture.

I was lurking around here earlier and I was inspired to try a digital page of my own. I used Photo Impact 10 and to be honest I had no idea what I was doing. I really do want to get into digital scrapbooking though.

That's cute! I'm fond of the look of slightly tilted photos with the poloroid-type border. :)

Also, did you mean to say "2005" instead of 2007?

DisneyMama629
02-25-2007, 08:56 PM
Thanks Chris. I did mean to put 2006. And I actually got more than that wrong. My signature is wrong too! I'm really dumb. I better go fix it. All three years are wrong on my trip dates.

I am loving all these wonderful Disney Digital pages and am so inspired!!!! They are all great!
I love princess pictures. Very cute! I have a boy, and I'll never get to make a princess page. :guilty: Lisa, were those templates, or did you do them all yourself?
My princess pages are actually a mix of kits. I bought the Princess Kit designed by Glenda Ketchum...that is where most of the paper/elements from on my Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty pages. Then the frames/photo corners & papers on the Jasmine page are from Beaslybear's (aka Seebee) blog. Thanks so much to Chris for all the wonderful Disney Digital items she has generously created and shared!!!

Thanks lisa! This (carosel) page was easy -- you are just layering one photo on top of the other, but the bigger one is just changed in opacity (i just used the slider bar to change it til i was happy with the "see thru effect"),

The ones from HHI - i used a template from http://heatheranndesigns.net/ , she doesn't have a ton of stuff in her store, but her stuff is beautiful!! ;)

Fran -- love the orange mickey pumpkin pic - i have the same one!! LOL :thumbsup2

Lisa~ Love your pages!!! Where did you get those frames on the "Meeting the characters" pages? Thanks!!! The paper and most of the frames/elements on the "Meeting the Character" pages were from a kit from Glenda Ketcham called The Most Wonderful Place on Earth: Mouse Scraps. Here is a link:

http://www.digitalscrapbookpages.com/digitals/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=38&sort=20a&page=13

There is tons of stuff in the kit and I think it was so worth the $$$. Glenda has several kits available that work awesome with Disney Pics (I used her kit for my princess pics which you can see in the first post of this thread...)

These are terrific! i love that you posted all of your layouts so we can see the learning curve too as the pages get more and more detailed. They look great! What programs, websites, and resources do you use? Are you on scrapbook bytes?I just started doing scrapbooking. My Disney pages are the first digital pages I have done. I did a few scrapbook pages 'traditionally' but with two very young kids it just wasn't practical for me. I could only work on it at night after their bedtime and then I would have to take everything out and then pack everything up when I was done since I don't have an area of my house I could dedicate to scrapbooking.

Digital just worked out great for me. I use Paint Shop Pro X and it is on my laptop and I can be scrapbooking anywhere while I watch the kids play with no mess and I don't have to worry about little fingers. My favorite sites for learning how to use my program have been http://scrapbook-bytes.com/ and http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com

Fran98765
03-03-2007, 08:56 PM
I can pretty much "ditto" everything Lisa said... the mess, the small kids, the never getting anything done. I also use PSPX. I just mostly wanted to add that there are also tons of tutorials at www.scrapgirls.com, in addition to the 2 sites she mentioned. My usual hangout where most of my layouts are is at DSP (www.digitalscrapbookplace.com), which Lisa mentioned.

Lisa, I'm loving your pages and have put a few in my favorites to scraplift later this year for my trip. My question is on your red title page.....what size is that photo of the monorail? Is that a panoramic one? How did you do take that? With a panoramic camera or a stitching program. I would LOVE to take some panoramics this year on our trip and was thinking about using my BIL's panoramic camera, but I keep hearing about these programs that let you "stitch" together photos to make one big one. I'll have to check some out.

It was 'borrowed' with permission from another Diser (Dznefreek) who has some increadably unique photoshopped photos. Since the monorail doesn't go under this sign, Dznefreek must have merged a photo on the monorail with a pic of the entrance to WDW that you drive under and got this cool photo. I am not sure what program he used but I think you could do it with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. I have found many awesome photos from lurking on the Photography boards here and most members are very kind with allowing you to borrow photos for personal scrapbooking...

I've been digi-scrapping for 2 1/2 years. Such great layouts being shared here! Since I'm deep in Disney planning mode, I've been scrapping some pics from our 04 trip lately. Here's some more recent layouts:

There are tons of digital pages where you can just drop in your pic and the layout is done. None are Disney specific, going back to the whole trademark thing, but there are so many beautiful quick pages that it's sometimes just too easy!

"sooooo , are there any pre-made disney pages that you can just drag/drop pics into?? "

There are lots of quick pages available all over the internet that you can use for layouts of WDW..

Also, I created about 70 layouts without pics before my trip last year, it served two purposes, one it helped me waiting to get there as it passed many evenings and when I got back I had lots of layouts ready to go to pick from which sped up the scrapping. Those I didn't use I have on a CD awaiting my next trip, along with any I may make between now and then.

I am new to the whole digitalscrapping thing but some of the sites that I have helped me so much is www.digitalscrapbookplace.com and www.scrapbook-bytes.com (I am sure there are many more great sites also). Both of them offer freebies including many pre-done pages where you would just add your pics (you just have to register - no cost) There are also TONS of free kits with coordinating papers/elements that you can mix and match to create your own pages. There are also tons of great tutorials for how to create certain effect. What program do you have for digital scrapping? I have Paint Shop Pro. The hardest things for me was learning the program in the begining but after doing many tutorials (and adding more RAM to my laptop) I did get the basics down but I still have so much to learn. Now I think my biggest problem is my own creativity...

Photoshop Elements is a great program to start with if you're wanting to get in the Photoshop family of programs. Once you've learned it, it makes it easier to make the jump to full Photoshop. :thumbsup2

Kimberly - Thanks for your kind words! Let me see if i can go down the list and help...

Mickey layout: basic red cardstock, The mickey head i made myself, just did the 3 circles, then added the "epoxy style" to them, to make them look like clear epoxy stickers -- i could try to do one and send it to you if you want.

The second and third pages came from a set called "Bliss". From scrapgirls.com .

The sorcerers hat paper came from Chris - www.seebeesfreebies.blogspot.com , she does AWESOME work, and it's FREE. How cool is she??!!! Love her!!!!

I don't make any of my own papers, i am not that good.. LOL MAYBE someday.. when i can really play more and learn... But, i just started digi scrapping about 2-3 mo ago, so i still have a long way to go.

Hi there! Thanks for your quick reply! I use PSP 9 - I haven't run into an "epoxy style" on there - maybe there's something similar - I am new to this so still playing around with the basics. I have TONS of scapping sites bookmarked - right now I'm sticking with the freebies until I gain more confidence in what I'm doing.

Thanks for the blog site! I am going to check that out right now :) I think I've run into her name before on one of my scrapping sites.... :confused3

Very nice page. I also use PSP X so ask away if you have questions.

Drop Shadow is adding a shadow (narrow is better) on the edges of your pictures, mats or elements. You can try it out by going to effects dropdown menu, then 3d effects.

Kelly

Fran98765
03-29-2007, 10:14 PM
Kelly answered about drop shadows. I usually make my LOs 12x12 at 300 dpi and use about 8 on my shadow, so small is good.

For frames around pics, there are tons of premade ones you can find on different sites, you can also crop down background papers to mat your pics, or DL mats all over too. Or, you can add borders to your pics and then put an effect or texture on the border, all which give you a different look. You can add borders under Image > Add borders and use something like 10-40 depending on the look you want. Then you can play with effects and colors and textures too. Do that to the pic before you copy it onto your LO.

j_lehr
03-30-2007, 09:23 PM
Thanks for the help. I found the effects, although I haven't used any yet. I have a few other questions if anyone can answer them.

This might sound silly, but I see in some layouts where the text is wavy or in shapes, etc....I can't figure out how to get my text to do that. I click the text tool and a box appears but my writing is only ever straight...lol.

Also, I have only messed around with layouts of 8x8 but wonder if I should do them 12x12. I want to print them out some day so I am wondering what would be better. I actually re-did my Epcot page because on the first layout I thought I tried to cram too many pictures so our faces looked really small. Here is the new page:

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m191/grumpjes24/EpcotPagel1-R.jpg

The paper is Seebee's Freebies Dream Trip Hidden Mouse Swirl Paper and the elements from Honey Bear by Glenda Ketcham.

Thanks for all your help!

Here is a tutorial about creating text on a path, which you can make in any shape or waves, etc. (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/psp_textaroundshapes_ew/psp_textaroundshapes_ew.shtml)

I would do 12x12, because if you want to print at 8x8, it's easy to change, if you change your mind and want 12x12, it will look horrid. You will also have a bit more room to work with, which is always nice.

The LO looks nice, the empasis on the one photo is great. Just a note that you put a ribbon and brad on the wrong side of that tag. If it has 2 holes, you'd probably want something to "secure" the other side down too, it could be just a brad, or just brads on each side. Another thing, you may want to change the color of your tag, it's very close to the background color. You can change the color by going to Adjust > Hue/Saturation > Colorize and then play with the two sliders until you find something you like. To just get the red part you can click that area with the magic wand first and it will only change the area inside the marching ants.

Thanks so much for your help! I'm saving all these posts so I can practice later. I am going to re-do the Epcot page on 12 x 12. (My fiancee will really think I'm nuts now since I have done this page twice already, lol).

I have one more question...(well hopefully only one more) =) When I save my page, it always says it has to merge it because of limitations of the file type I am using. Once you merge it, you can't change it right? How do you save your work half way through or can't you?

Thanks again...
Jessica

Jessica - While working on the layout you can save it as a psp file, then when you know you are done and ready to print you merge the layers and save it as either a .jpg or .png file. Then when you really know you are done you can delete the psp file.

I have several folders set up.. one is layouts in progress, this is where I save the psp version, completed layouts, to print layouts and printed and archive layouts. This really helps me.

BTW, if you dont have an external drive I suggest you get one, these files are huge and you will use up space faster than you can imagine. Also, make sure you backup your layouts to CD/DVD as hard drives and external drives do crash.

SBB.com and Rakscraps.com have some great psp tutorials as well.

Funny you mention harddrive space....last week before I started downloading digital supplies and playing with layouts I ran about out of space...I was down to 20 mb...so I bought a 250 gig external....I could see myself lining these things up tho! lol

Thanks for the tips!

Wonderful getting an external drive. I'm so bad at backup... I need to desperately put stuff on DVDs.

I never merge my original pages. I always leave them saved as a .pspimage, that way if I find something wrong with it or need to change something, I still can. And I have found errors on old pages, I had done a memorial to my cat that died and I put wrong years on it and other silly mistakes, like spelling errors too.

To save a copy for the web, resize it to 600x600 (Image > Resize) and then File > Export > JPEG and then you save it as a .jpg that way. Then I Undo the resize and I have both files. I upload the jpg to my server or any galleries that I post at, depending on what products I've used. I have deleted a few old jpg's but they are so small it's really not worth the trouble.

Thanks Fran and Renysmom for all of your help.

So here goes...another shot at the Epcot page. This time I did it in 12x12. I did change some elements...I have downloaded some cool things since I worked on the page yesterday, lol.

The paper is from Seebee's Freebies Dream Trip collection. The tag is from Kathy Smith's Color My World Collection.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m191/grumpjes24/EpcotDay1small.jpg

I realized after I was all done that I never added the "Epcot" title...Paul (my fiancee) says that we should know it's Epcot cause of Spaceship Earth. LOL :rotfl2:

Thanks again for all the wonderful help and tips...I have learned so much these past few days. I am excited to move on to some different pictures.

Have a great weekend.

Another thing I do is if I see a kit that I know would be perfect for a Dis layout I put it into a folder labled "dis scrapping". Now I am so crazy that inside this folder I have folders for each park, characters, resorts, christmas, etc. Then I drag the kit I found into the right subfolder so I can find them easier. I also have a folder for layout ideas and when I see a layout I want to try to recreate I save the copy and put that in the idea folder.

I often find myself with no new pics to scrap and in the mood to scrap, when that happens I visit these folders and make some "quick pages" which I use when I return from my visits. Pre-scrapping the pages helps me get them done so much quicker. Those that I don't use I save for my next trip :rotfl:

Thanks for the tips...I have definitely already downloaded so much and trying to keep it all organized is challenging. Remembering what I have when I am putting pages together is impossible. LOL. I like the saving layouts idea...

Since I just learned how to do this, I don't think I will run out of photos anytime soon. LOL. I have thousands of digital pictures just from the past two years. I was going to try to traditional scrapbook the bigger events and I bought a lot of stuff to do it with but I never got around to it. I have scrapped (traditionally) a few pages for special projects and digital is way easier and less messy!

Your puppy LOs are adorable! For the nighttime castle LO, I might suggest cropping in closer to the castle on some of the pics, maybe use other angle pics if you have them. I know you are showcasing on the effects at night, but you might try a daytime photo in the center to kind of balance it out, see how that works. Also, in the 2 left pics, the castle isn't straight, so you may want to straighten it out, not sure what program you use, but I use PSPX and it has a straighten feature which is very easy to use. The LO looks nice, but maybe some contrast would help it out a bit. Another contrast to try is a fireworks photo over the castle if you have one of those too. I'd dabble with a couple different things and see what you like best.

Mkymselady -

Thank you for the compliment. They are always nice to hear.

To get started you need a editing program such as one of the photoshops, paint shop pro, Digital imaging pro, etc.

Then you need to learn to use them. Each has a unique learning curve but there are lots of tutorials on the web. SBB.com and Rakscraps.com has lots and a great community to help out.

As for the kits and such, some I make, som I buy and alter, others are freebies. There are no Disney licensed kits available yet, hopefully some day. So you have to create your own ideas.

Let us know if you need more info.

Renysmom

Carney -

Google Disney Fonts and you will find it and more ;) . Then open the font and reduce. open your photo edit software and go to fonts and it will temporarily be there. Don't close the font until you are done doing what your doing and save or your font will revert back to a default font.

As a matter of fact. I just uploaded 4 more pages of Disney related items I have made over the years to my personal website.I hope to get more up later. OK I've been too chicken to post any of my layouts but decided I needed to stop hiding my work and what a better place to start than the DIS. :)

Here are 3 layouts I did recently to complete our June 2006 trip (took my DD & her friend to WDW one last time before she left for college). I've done a few digital albums in the last year but this was my 1st completely digital disney album & I loved doing it. It's digital all the way for me for me from now on.

Please note...not sure why but the shadows seem exaggerated when I save them as JPG files but when I convert them to TIFFs & print them from PS, they look fine.

I think your MGM layout is great Jessica. Sometimes it's hard to avoid "busy" layouts when it comes to scrapping Disney...there is just so much to scrap and I often feel the same way when I finish a page. Sometimes I look at a layout I just did & say "gee...I like this one" and sometimes I look at it and say "well at least it's done". LOL I still have 5 more Disney trips to scrap and I leave next Friday for another one so that'll be 6!

And thanks for the compliments on my layouts. Although I don't post much I do read this forum & admire the layouts everyone posts. With 6 more trips to scrap I desperately need the inspiration I find here. I'll have to try to be more active. :)

More great layouts. I will have to run over and check out that kit. It is so colorful. Although I did spend some money at Roberta D'Achilles store this weekend (Rendered Memories). She has a bunch of her kits on clearance through tonite for $1.00 and $1.50.

Between those sale items and a very rainy, dreary day I scrapped 10 layouts today. I will get my last trip scrapped before my next one :lmao: only 230 days to go. The new layouts are all on the front page of my blog. Link below. I would love comments as always.

A couple of years ago I bought a program called Scrapbook Deluxe. It had a lot of wonderful premade templates, graphics, fonts, etc. The problem with it is when you printed out the pages even their premade templates were off, the right border would be completely missing. I have struggled with it and had some good results. I am used to designing layouts for my job as a bank trainer. Out of frustration I am going to be investing in a new program as soon as I decide between Paintshop,Photoshop, or Photo Impact; I just don't really want to spend over $100 but do not want another cheap program that is going to design well but then print something completely different.

My real confusion after reading this thread, has to do with printing. Do you guys then print these pages out? I read in an earlier post where it was recommended to design in 12X12 but how do you print that out? When I was printing out my pages I would print them out on photo paper but I thought I read a recommendation to print on card stock? Are you designing these pages just for your websites or our some of you still filling traditional photo albums.

Everyone of the layouts on this thread have been wonderful, you guys should be SO proud of yourselves.

I print my layouts out as 12x12 on my Epson printer then place them in an album. For the prices you can get 12x12s printed in the US though, I'd be tempted to get them professionally printed. When I add up the cost of ink & paper ($2 each here just for a glossy sheet plus about $80 for the 2 print cartridges which does about 20 pages...that's ~$120 for 20 printed pages :( ), I'm tempted to send mine to the US to have them printed (haven't seen anywhere here that prints for the costs I've seen advertised in the US). I've also been hearing a lot about shutterfly's 12x12 books and am considering giving that a try for pages I don't already have albums for (I bought an album for each trip we took to Disney so want to put my Disney layouts in those).

I printed out an 8x8 album I just did for a friend I went to Disney with last year (we're going together again this Friday...yippee :)) and it was nice but with Dinsey layouts I sometimes want 3 or 4 pics on a page & I found the pictures a little tiny on an 8x8 layout. I actually scrapped them in 12x12 & printed them in 8x8. When I printed the same layout for my album in 12x12....I loved the layouts...big difference. Now I did an 8x8 grad album for one of my sons (paper scrapping) with only 1 or 2 pics per page a few years ago & loved the album. :) Just my personal opinion/experience but thought I'd pass it along.

I have a large format photo printer (Canon I990) so I print everything here and then out into albums. I also design in 12 x 12 and then print in 8 x 8.

I tend to highlight photo's more than the kits in my layouts so it is rare that I have more than 2 pictures to a page. I've been printing at home for years.

I received a ad for some new kits at scrap outside the box and saw this new kit for pirates. It would be perfect for WDW scrapping. It is on sale through Friday.

Good Morning...

So I decided to re-do my pages (I have only done 3 so far) to try to alleviate that cluttered look...

Please let me know what you think...I have learned so much through everyone's comments and tips here.

The paper and some of the elements are from the Brian Kit from Melissa Renfro at Scrap Girls (Thanks DisneyLisa for that information...I love this kit!). The rest of the elements are from Gloria Ketchum at Digitals (from her Mouse Scrap kit and Honey Bear kit).

Thanks!

Lisa & Fran - Thank you!!! I do like the pictures better separated. Originally I just put all the pics on one page just to be done with it. Now that I have found many great new elements thanks to Chris (aka Seebee) and Kelly (aka Renysmom) and seeing all the wonderful pages here, I was inspired to be more creative and do more pages. Going back thru all the pages I have done, there are a few more that I am not thrilled with that I want to try to rework. I just love Digital Scrapping because it makes doing this so easy (unlike reworking a layout that had been scrapped traditionally)

DisneyLisa
04-18-2007, 12:03 PM
I agree...digital is so much easier. Be careful though looking back & re-doing pages. I was told once, when I first started scrapping, not to do that or I'd constantly be re-doing pages as my style & scrapping trends change. I look back at some of my earlier pages & go "ugggggh...what was I thinking". But you know, others still look at them when they come over & think they are wonderful. :lmao:

I do occasionally re-do a page though. What I like about digital is the ability to change things so easily. I typically scrap a page then open it up a few days later & look at it again. Usually if there's something I'm going to end up changing, it pops out at me the minute I take a fresh look at it.

I love seeing everyone's layouts...keep posting. I'm leaving for Disney tomorrow (I know...poor me ;) ) so won't be online much but I will have my laptop with me & hope to check in now & again to see what's been posted. Happy scrapping everyone. :)

I love the re-worked pages! I think it looks great to highlight each of the characters on their own pages. I think when the kids look back on them they will enjoy each of the pictures more. Great job! I need to get going and decide which software I am going to upgrade. I am having trouble choosing Corel Paint shop because I don't like their wordperfect or spreadsheet programs. Don't like is not a strong enough word. I didn't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a program either though. Until I decide I will keep enjoying these awesome pages that you guys are kicking out. Thanx Lisa for the info.

I actually found Photoshop Elements 5 through softwareoutlet.com for $39.99. I was wondering how they can have the product for so cheap but they are selling the version that Dell, Compaq, etc. buys to install into PC. That means that it doesn't have the fancy packaging. My friend just ordered office suite software through them and was happy. I feel better after reading your post that I made the right decision. Thank you again and keep the pages coming to inspire me.

Hi Jessica - It is actually two elements. The Mickey Brad and the Ribbon with the button are two different elements that I merged together. I basically did the same thing you do with the paper clip where you 'erased' part of the image. In PSPX there is a neat way to erase things so you can easily correct your mistakes in case you erase too much. It is called Masking a layer. You should look for some tutorials on Masking since it is a REALLY helpful thing to know. If you can't find anything on it, PM me and I will try to expain it to you...

I 'think' I am just about done with my Disney Album now (as long as I don't decide to rework more pages ;-) Now I really have to get scrapping my Disney Cruise photos from Sept '05

I just found these cute, cute, CUTE little animals from DeDe Smith at Digitals, and knew I had to have them for my Animal Kingdom pages. :thumbsup2
ETA that I keep forgetting to mention that the animals do NOT come with the hats! I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking they are a Disney product. They'd work great for any zoo or animal related pics. :)

I downloaded those same animals from Digitals!! They are so adorable. Haven't had a chance to use them yet...

Good to have you back Caitsmama!!! I am always so inspired by your great layouts and am looking forward to more ;-) So whereabouts in RI are you from? I grew up in EG (in fact my parents are still there so we visit them every Sunday) DH & I moved just over the line into north eastern CT a few years ago because the houses were much more affordable but I do miss RI.

Where in CT are you now? My grandmother lives in Manchester CT.My hubby and I went on a tour and wine tasting at Sakonnet back when we were dating. It is lovely out that way. We now live in Plainfield, CT. It is 10 min over the RI border but you have to travel thru Western (rural) Coventry for the most direct route.

Love them! I actually have a similar MGM page on paper with filmstrips vertical like that! I might have to redo that digitally for a newer LO! :)

Here's my Cars page, thanks for the tip!

Jessica - Your TOT layout is awesome.. I may have to scraplift it., The hula hoop one is such a great idea with that background.

Caitsmom - Goofy's candyshop is awesome. I want to lift that too hehehe.

I uploaded 5 layouts from this week to my blog and there is a freebie template for anyone who wants it. No disney kit designing for me this weekend but I hope to do some more as soon as I get a few hours to really concentrate.

Link to my blog is in my signature.

I am not really sure who did the drawing class...there were a few cast members that seemed to rotate from what I saw...When are you cruising? I will be back in Disney at the end of September and I know we'll be back at the drawing class for sure. =)
