We did our taxes last night and knew we would have enough to pay for our vacation pacakge. We figured we would have to save up the airfare and spending money on our own.
Not so....we have enough for everything and still have some left over!!!

We do our own taxes, hubby is an engineer but sees himself as Capt. Ahab and taxes are his white whale. We decided that every dollar over a certain amount would go toward our next Disney trip. I usually lay low on tax preparation days. Not this year, I was on him like white on rice and jumped in to help. Taxes are done, filed and our trip will be paid for!:cheer2: I'm currently trying to design a super hero type costume for my new persona "Deduction Finde " I'm thinking something in lime green.:)

Our tax refund last year paid for our 1st ever trip to WDW. This year we are going to Vero beach for a week with a couple side trips to WDW from the refund. I always overpay my taxes out of withholding as a forced savings account. Works for me and Uncle Sam.

My sister is a CPA and always does ours. Since our trip is a gift all we were saving for was spending $$$ & gas $$$. Not anymore we are getting enough back to pay for about 2 more trips :cool1: So spending $$ won't be a problem!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but why not try adjusting your withholding so you get more back per pay period, and put the excess in an interest paying account??? Why let the goverment hold on to your money for over a year and not pay you any interest on the money??? Seems like most people could use extra $$$ during the year, but that's just me, blasphemer and all.

Because that money, somehow or another, would get spent. This way I get a lump sum and can hide it.

My DH is in sales and his commission and bonus are both taxed as supplemental pay(25% in fed tax ) even by adjusting him to married 9 we will still get alot of money back.

Yay! to the OP. Our taxes were more than we figured since last year's refund was roughly $100, lol. So it was large and half went for shopping fun and the other half paid our Poly room deposit :cool1: That was a nice surprise because we were not counting on useing a tax refund in any way.

We do claim absolutely everything we can (hence last year's $100 refund total from fed. and state). Our large refund is directly related to the high tax on bonuses. It definitely wasn't enough to pay for a whole vacation for us. Heck, it didn't even cover our room for our whole stay, lol. For us it was a nice surprise, not something we count on.

Good idea, but the money is too easy to get my hands on then...
This way, I have no access to it and no it will be there when it comes time to pay for our vacation...

CPA hasn't finished with ours yet, but we are going completely free using, hotel point (offsite), frequent flyer miles for airplane, and AmEx for the park tickets--had to request this as a special item through their "your reward" program.
Congratulations to everyone on getting your money back, I do same thing even though I'm passing up the interest. Let's face it I would just blow it on junk through out the year!
