Does anyone know when these extremely annoying bugs show up in Florida, we got there last year the first week the bugs got there, the second week of September, and I was told they last for two weeks??? We will be there the first week of October this year, any chances we will miss them this year.....???
Thanks for any info:thumbsup2

We were there the Sept 23-Oct 1 last year and they were really bad. I did the Gardens of the World tour and someone asked the horticulturalist about them. She said they are around for about 4 weeks.

I don't think they are all that bothersome personally (and I've lived on the Gulf Coast for almost ten years now).

A lot of it is weather dependent - how much rain, heat, etc. they get over the summer determines how many eggs make it, etc.
Having lived/worked at WDW in the mid-90's, I don't think they were ever particularly bothersome come October. You may see a few, but I believe that the bulk of "breeding season" is earlier in Sept.
At least they don't bite!

Usually they show up on the April/May border and then again in September. They are around close to 4 weeks each time.
They don't sting or bite but their juices can really pit your car's paint. If you're renting you don't need to care except to keep your windshield clear enough so that you can drive safely. Legend has it that they are attracted to car fumes and that's why there are so many along roadways. No matter how many get splattered, there are thousands more still flying around.
