View Full Version : Do you scrapbook ahead of time?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I mean is, do you ever make your pages ahead of time even before you have any pictures???? Or do you wait to see what pictures you have and which ones you want to scrap? I've never made them ahead of time but I just bought a book full of Disney papers, punch outs, etc and want so bad to make a few pages (maybe even scrap-lift the ideas from the cover of the book) but my trip isn't until July and since I already have my days planned out and my dinner reservations made, I need to do something to bide my time.

If you have done them ahead of time, how did it work out for ya? I mean I don't want to make a page and then realize after the trip that I don't have a specific size picture for a certain page, KWIM? Or find out that I needed a vertical pic instead of a horizontal one.

What's your scrappin' style?

I've never done a layout without the pictures. Once I bought all the supplies I needed to scrap a canadian cruise before the cruise and ended up not using what I bought. The colors just didn't jell.

I need to look at my pictures, decide how many page layouts I need to do with those pictures, then I choose the layout paper and enhancers.

But I say go ahead and play. You could do some no picture layouts to put throughout your album.

Hi Lisa,

Yeah...that's usually what I do too. I wait to see what type of pictures I have and then decide what each page needs. I guess I'm just in a hurry to get on vacation, take a bunch of pics and scrapbook them. Oh wait, I just remembered that I still have some pictures from our 2005 trip that I still need to scrap. That'll get me in the mood and get some pages done. WHOOHOO!!!

BTW, I noticed you're from CT. Where abouts.....I'm in Plainfield.

I did a ready-made book for my sister when my nephew was born but she's not a scrapper. She loved it. She added adhesive to the photos and journaled and it was done.

I'm in the middle of one right now. I'm working on a set of pages to follow my pregnancy and so I know I'm going to be taking vertical photos. I'm doing some of the embellishments now, and I'll finish them once I have the pictures in place.

If you want some idea, take a look at Club Scrap's assembly line scrapping. They give tons of examples of finished pages without pictures and it's really intersting to see how they put them together.

I know what you mean - I'm very much the same! I see lots of things I like and think will fit in with where I'm going and save them up for sometimes a year or more! Mostly it works, just make sure you take a note of what photo's you MUST have ("hey hun I need to take a picture of this as it matches the papers I have back home"!) occasionally this doesn't work as the opportunity didn't arise for a photo for some reason (weather usually!!) or the colour's are not what you planned for. Take a chance and enjoy the planning up to your vacation (and it will also save you time when you get back home!)

What you could do ahead of time, if you were inclined to make one, would be an autograph book. Some characters you just know you will get autographs from each trip, so you could make pages of those, leave a spot for the autograph and for a pic of the char.

I do scrap ahead of time, or without photos sometimes. I call it reverse scrapbooking. But I don't usually do it regarding my Disney stuff. I do it because I have soo much supplies that are just sitting there. I pull out some of my most beautiful stuff and create great layouts and I can whip through it in no time get three double page layouts in an hour . Then a day or a week later I find photos that would fit good. I just did this this week, the kids have been home from school and lots of playdates. I just sat at the dining room table and did the pages w/out photos and I was able to use up all my paper from my gorgeous Brenda Walton QVC kit. Then i found photos from an awesome summer trip to maine that were so bright and green / garden-y and they look awesome. I am glad I decided to do that because It's doing nobody any good having your best or favorite supplies hanging around doin' nothing!

But as another poster commented planning ahead for Disney pages doesn't work for me. Hubby and I spend a lot of time preparing for the trip on the computer to get excited . The year the dining plan came out I printed the names of the participating restaraunts and scrapped them into Cards like 3"x6" and did front and backs, one for each park, and took them to staples and had them laminated. Then I hooked them together with a keychain hook and took them to the parks with me 'Cause Hubby is VERY concerned Where We Will Be Eating !!!!

Maybe you could do creative project like that ?:wave2:

If you did scrap beforehand, you could plan your "must have" photos, and make sure you take them. you could even plan your wardrobe based on the colors of the pages, or vice versa. I seem to have a set of "florida clothes" much more vibrant colors than i'd wear here in New York. So, I know what colors I'll be wearing. A good guidebook can help you pick out the highlights, if you've not been before.

I have never done any layouts w/o pics either, until now. I have been going to some LSS Disney classes recently, we generally do 3 pages, usually 1 spread and 1 singles, each page usually holds at least 3 pics. There were 2 classes for the Fab Five (1 Mickey spread, 1 Minnie, 1 Goofy, 1 Donald, and 1 Pluto) I know I will be seeing them, so I definately signed up for the two classes for them- and the colors are black, red, yellow for Mickey, blue for Donald, you get the picture, basically the colors from the characters. Also, I went to the Princess class, where we did a spread for Princesses-with all of them, and 1 Tink page. I have a DD4, so I know I will use these. I am going to WDW and DCL in Sep 2007 for DD5's bday, so I'm going to need all of the help I can get, as I will probably do 1 album for each. I am also going to a Pirate class in March, and after that a Pixar class, the LSS has a girl who loves Disney as much as us, so they have started a series of Disney classes. Sorry such a long post. :goodvibes

I guess I'm posting a reply to my own original thread. LOL Anyhow, I got to thinking about doing the pages ahead of time and I'm not sure if I could do it. I was looking on ebay and there were so many premade Disney scrapbook layouts. I liked quite a few of them. But then I got to thinking.....if I did this layout now, I would HAVE to take 3 vertical snapshots and 2 horizontal snapshots (or whatever that specific layout had already laid out). I mean, if I "premade" my whole album, I would have to write down which pics I would have to take and which direction they would have to be so they would fit into each mat. Too confusing for me. So I guess I'll just sit back *patiently* and wait until after my trip. :yay:

It's still a good idea to write down a few must have pics. We go to WDW a lot and we took pics of the kids on the pod racer outside to Star Wars ride. I needed one more pic so I had a notebook to write down the fact that I needed a pic of the big robot thingy (real technical term, I know! :rotfl2: ) that you walk under to get into the ride.

Good point! But depending on how many megapixels your camera has and what setting you take the pics on (best), you could easily manipulate your pics to fit what you need. :thumbsup2

I am envious of the poster whose LSS has those amazing Disney classes! We need to see pics!!!! :yay:

I don't necessarily scrapbook ahead of time, but before we left my SIL loaned me her Sizzix so I cut out probably over 75 phrases for my pages mostly the names of the rides, restaurants, etc. I looked at pictures online at the colors of the ride signs, etc to figure out what colors to use. Now that I have my Cricut I don't have to do that, but it has been nice having all the words already cut out. I just recut any I don't work with the pictures I took with the Cricut. I didn't do any character names before we went since I had no idea of which characters we were going to see.

No problem, they were the designs for the class I went to, the girl who teaches the class was so creative!!!!! She had us doing some things I had never done before in scrapbooking (stitching, mitering?, i had never used chipboard letters either) So not only have we learned some new techniques, but got great pages out of it. Another LSS has a 5 week class where we will make 2 2page spreads (Disney of course), so I also signed up for that for the next 5 Sundays.:rolleyes1 . My husband thinks I'm crazy- maybe I am.:confused3 Anyway, I will post the other pics after the classes.
