We will be travelling down I-75 from Atlanta and on the way back (23rd) we need to stop about half way. Anyone know of a good, reasonable place right off the interstate? I was thinking Gainesville to Lake City area would be about the 1/2 way point. Am I right?

Thanks!

Lake Park, GA is right on the FLA-GA border and has the most reasonable hotel rates...there are many outlet stores and restaurants in the area. I've stayed at the Days Inn there for about $32. It is about 4 years old and in great condition. The Travelodge there is also really new and inexpensive.

Thanks. Is that really about 1/2 way? We don't want to drive more than about 4 hours leaving Orlando as we won't be leaving there until around 6:00 p.m. and will be wiped out. I guess I could actually look at a map but thought I'd ask if you are around.

According to Mapquest:
210 miles from Disney to Lake Park
239 miles from Lake Park to Atlanta

So you will be slightly under half way there. Gas is cheaper in GA, so be sure and fill up in GA too....

Lake City has a number of good hotel choices. We stayed in the Lake City Hampton Inn last July and it was a very nice, comfortable location (the complimentary continental breakfast was also good). Hampton Inn may be slightly more expensive than other roadside motels, but I've yet to see a Hampton in anything but excellent condition - and I can't say that about any other chain.

Valdosta, GA. also has many choices, and would be only slightly over the half-way point north of Lake Park.

Wherever you stop, I'd make reservations prior to arrival (by early afternoon the day of). When we checked into the Lake City Hampton Inn, we walked past a line of people going from motel to motel looking for a room, only to find "no vacancy" signs taped to locked doors. We had reservations, and the last room at the inn! The desk clerk said this was common.

Got the Hampton Inn in Lake City for $76.50 a night and one of the last few rooms. It being the day before Christmas Eve, and seems a lot of people are driving, I am glad to have the rooms! Thanks again.
