Camping at Disney?

I am wondering if any of you have ever camped at Fort Wilderness? In a tent??? I am asking, because I would like to try to surprise DH with a trip for our anniversary. If we stayed in our tent, it is sooo much more affordable than a resort. However, we have never used our tent. And, I have never spent more than a weekend in one.

We really don't need anything fancy. Just a place to get cleaned up and sleep. We just got back from FL a couple weeks ago. It was the two of us and our two kids. I'm looking at something for just the two of us. It would be the beginning of September.

We still haven't had a honeymoon and I would love to do something together with no kids. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've slept in a tent at FW, I once slept for a night just in my car! I love FW - and there are is a nice bathroom/shower building in each loop. You can do the campfire, a wagon ride, the petting zoo, walk to the WL and maybe seem some deer and/or armadillos, go to Trails End, rent a bike - it really is one of my favorite places. I plan to add a FW/WL walk page (well, maybe 2 since it's going to be detailed) to my site probably next week.

The hardest part sometimes is actually finding availability - the sites can be really popular!

We just got back from tent camping a couple weeks ago for our 16th Anniversary. However, our 3 kids came with too, but it was still our anniversary trip. We had a great time--we had requested loop 300 (a preferred site) just to be closer to the beach & stuff, and we loved it. We were only 1 of 2 tents on the whole loop, surrounded by motorhomes, but it didn't bother us at all. The comfort station was right across from our site and it was beautiful and clean! We walked to the dock at night a few times to watch fireworks-it's such a pretty campground-you will love it!:goodvibes Have a great Disney Anniversary!!!:love:

We are planning on tent camping this April. I've never been tent camping, but wanted to let you know you weren't the only one.

However, we have never used our tent.

If you have never used your tent you MUST:

Set it up at home in the yard when you have a nice couple of days.

Treat every seam with seam sealer inside and out.

Spray all of of the fabric with some type of fabric protectant , scotch guard, camp guard, etc. (I do at least two coats, and reapply about every 6 camping trips).

Then let it set like that for a day or two. Then roll it back up.

Make sure you have a ground cloth to go under the tent. (I use 6 mil painters plastic cut from a large roll). Cut it about 1 inch smaller than your tent bottom.

Also, at Ft. Wilderness before you lay down the ground cloth, lay down a sheet of the .2 mil plastic first. (The really thin stuff in packages). Then when you break camp, just throw the thin stuff away.

The first thing we did with the tent once we bought it was to set it up. So, I can check that off the list!! ;) However, it never even crossed my mind to do the rest of it. Thank yo for the tips! :flower3:

Just remember that September is still very much summer in Florida so take at least a fan for the tent!!!

The Biggest tip I can tell you is not to let the kids know that you are going to Disney without them. :laughing: You would not have happy campers at home (bad pun)

Another tip would be a good air matteress. Seeing that it would be your honeymoon :bride: I would recommend a queen size :hug: with a double sleeping bag. But the best tip: Have fun!
