I think it got us too Bears, last week when DS was sick with an upper respiratory he also had signs of food poison but since he was ill we just attributed it to the Flu after seeing the report on this now I wonder if he did not have a touch a food poison along with his upper respiratory.
Does your lid have the numbers on it?
They keep saying the lid and send that in but our jar the numbers are on the jar.

Wow. I didn't know about this. My peanut butter is running pretty low and I was gonna pick some up soon. Luckily I saw this, I'll make sure to check and see what numbers are on my jar. Peter Pan Peanut Butter is the only kind of peanut butter I'll eat, too.

Hm... Should I go fish the jar I just tossed out of the trash? Am I supposed to send it to someone? I had about 1/2 a jar left of the offending brand and matching numbers. Fortunately, I didn't get sick off of it.
Hope everyone who's gotten sick from it is healing now.

You only have to send it in if you want a refund... I am not fishing through our garbage to get it, so I will suck up the 3 bucks it cost....
I also had not numbers on my lid, but imprinted on the jar.
Right now DH and the boy are 'ok' but I am wondering if we should see the doctor, so they can add our family to the list of those effected......

I went and looked at my jar of peanut butter (Peter Pan) Yes it has the 2111 # on it and guess what, the jar is almost empty. I guess I'll be thankful we are all healthy and show no signs of illness.

......
Yes I wish they would stop reporting that the numbers are on the lid!
Bears you might should see the Dr. antibiotics might be needed, luckily DS had them for the ear infection he had along with the flu.
I hope you all get better quick....food poisioning is no fun.
I tossed the jar also not worth the time and effort to mail it to PP for a refund even though I had just opened it.

OK, so I have three jars of PP PB in my cabinet, two creamy one chunky. And the number is:
Yes folks you guessed it, all three of my jars have the magic 2111 on the lids!
Why can't I have this luck with the lottery?
EDIT: When I came home from work, the 20 year old was about to eat a PB&J sandwich, at which point I yelled: "Doesn't anybody in this family listen to their messages? read their e-mails? look at their text messages?" Caught him mid-bite. DS6, DD9 and I had pb sandwiches for dinner last night and are none the worse for wear. I'm guessing we were untainted, but better safe than sorry. And, with three jars, I'm definitely sending in my lids! That's what, $10?

Just a quick update on the boy... He is doing good... drinking a lot... and his... er... um... whatever... is thicker.... :lmao: So it seems I have weathered the worst of it over night last night... Nothing like being woken up at 3... then again at 5 then again at 7 with a sad sick really smelly and gross little boy... but he is terrorizing his sisters at this very moment so it looks like he is on the mend.
DH is still bad, but he is a big boy and I dont have to clean up after him.... (I will keep an eye on him though... and make him go to the doctor is things dont improve by tomorrow)
Me... I am just extremely tired... been a long 2 days.. I have a bit of a fender bender yesterday and then Girl Scout Camp regisration today which was way more than I felt like dealing with.... but such is life...
Ok off to my Girl Scout leader meeting where I will to try and not gripe about the regrstration proccess and also try very hard NOT fall asleep... Need more caffine... more MORE MORE!@!!! mUAHAHA!!!!

:grouphug: Hugs to all those that have gotten sick from this.
It's s good thing that we only ever buy Jif. (Choosy moms choose Jif).;)
I've had food poisoning before (from underbaked ham), and it's truly awful. Since then, I've been almost fanatical about food and dates on packaging and smells and looks of the food (did you know that eggs are actually good for 6 weeks after the date?).
Hugs to all and hope you feel better soon. :grouphug:

Sometimes I'm just so glad that I'm allergic to peanut butter, peanuts, and all other nuts...
That's what my youngest said last night when I told him about the salmonella problem.
There was also a Dole recall yesterday on canteloups for salmonella contamination also.
And he is anaphylactic to peanuts and melons, so he thought that was appropriate.

Beware of Dole canteloups, too.
I subscribe to all kinds of food recall lists, from FDA, from food allergy groups, because my youngest has allergies.

So your number is on the lid? ours and Bears was on the side of the jar, so I am not bothering sending it back in just toss it in the trash.

Hi,
Put me on this prestige lid. I had a jar of the tainted peanut butter. My numbers were on the list. As luck would have it I got extremely ill as well. Horrible for 24 hours but felt wiped out for 3 days. I am just SO HAPPY Slinkyman did not eat any of this. He has been through enough- I shudder:scared1: at the thought that I could have given him something to eat that could have made him very ill especially where is immune system is still on the mend.

We have a jar of it as well, almost empty. Obviously not effected though. It is an old jar though, expires this month. It is the crunchy that only DH eats anyway, and he only goes through a small jar about once a year, so pretty sure it was bought long ago.
And this can happen to any food, any brand!

It can happen to Skippy as well though, pretty much anything we eat, from anywhere can end up contaminated.

Oh, I understand that. But I am finding it interesting that people are saying, boy, sure is good I only use this brand or that, like it couldn't possibly happen with the other brands! I too only have Skippy for the kids in the house right now, Thank God since they eat it almost daily lately, but to think it won't ever happen to us because we only use Skippy is amusing me here. Like if a Delta plane crashes, thank goodness I only fly Southwest!

My dad was very upset when he heard about this.
We buy 8 pound jars of peter pan at a time, and my sister and I eat a lot of peanut butter.
The thing that stunk was that we actully had the bad number of peanut butter. It scared me and my sister half to death.
The werid thing was, that right before I heard about this on the news, I ate the peanut butter on a cracker. Then my sister called and told us to turn on the news. We were really scared.
It turns out that all of the jars of that stuff that we have left (like 5 jars) has this number on it... Which totally stinks.
My dad doesn't even know if he can get a recall, because he doesn't even know the date he bought them, nor does he half the recieps..

In cases like this... all he should have to do it return the jars to the store he bought them for a refund. No recept needed...

Yes. An off brand is usually the store brand or value brand. Sometimes it's as good as the name brands. Sometimes it's not.
And the off brand that was also recalled is Great Value Peanut Butter. Both are made by the ConAgra food company.
