We had a wonderful meal at Spoodles last night. This put to rest any concerns I may have gotten from reading reviews online about this restaurant, which had been our favorite for many years when Marianne Hummel was executive chef. There is a new chef now (no longer Chef Tony) and the meal was wonderful.
We're on the Dining Plan, so we ordered a lot. :)
For appetizers, Bob had the greek salad. My wife and her cousin ordered two of the flat breads (both were excellent). And I ordered the lamb kebabs, which were mind-blowing. Those kebabs reminding me exactly what Spoodles has always been about. Remarkably great lamb, seasoned and spiced perfectly, tender and juicy, with a bit of a bite. Absolutely perfect.
For entrees, Bob ordered the fettuccine. I kind of feel guilty about that, because I reminded him that we're eating at Le Cellier tonight, so I think that put him off of the NY Strip. I didn't get a good read on whether he like the fettuccine that well. My wife ordered the Portuguese Seafood Stew, which I had last month during a visit to Spoodles on a business trip. It was much better than I remember from last month (perhaps it was the company! -- just kidding boss!) My wife loved it and got some great ideas for her own seafood stew. (Fennel!) My wife's cousin and I the Lemon Chicken which was very very good, but not quite lemony enough for me. I was hoping for something that reminded me more the preserved lemons of Tunisia. Still, it was very very good. The chicken was nice and moist, and the olives and capers made it especially yummy.
I didn't get a good read on how well everyone else enjoyed dessert. I was pretty shocked at how well I enjoyed mine though. I got the white chocolate and orange cake, and finished it after absolutely intending not to! It was light and sweet. It felt very good going down.
The total bill came to over $185, so with that one meal we covered the cost of the Dining Plan that day plus $6. That's in addition to lunch, and a box of cookies, a box of donuts and a half-gallon of milk.

Spoodles definitely belongs on the "sleeper" list of WDW dining spots. A grossly underappreciated spot given the quality of food and service. We're DVC members who own at Boardwalk, so we're well aware of this gem, but I'm always amazed at how obscure it is with most other WDW fans.
Another hint: it also offers one of the most interesting and tasty table service breakfasts in Orlando.

We love Spoodles!! We actually have only gotten an entree once or twice, though- we usually order at least 1 of every appetizer they have, and share them for dinner. Yum!!

Nice review.
We have eaten there maybe 8-9 times over the last 4 years. The meals in late 2006 were not on par with what we had prior. Sounds like maybe they have things back on track.

We enjoyed it 2 weeks ago when we went as well. DW got the salmon which was really great. I was happy with my rigatoni, but next time, I will try the steak.
We love the mediterranean dips!!

Tough one. They are quite different and both very good.
Boma - buffet environment. Food is more unique. Wonderful soups.
Spoodles - more relaxing. and, as the reviews in this thread indicate very tasty.
For us, Boma is on the "must hit" list and Spoodles is on the "we would like to go back" list. That is more matter of our personal taste than a reflection on the quality of the restaurants.

I'm not sure where you get your information, but that is not accurate at all. Chef Tony is the wonderful Chef that is at Spoodles now. He didn't go anywhere.
Glad you enjoyed your meal. Things are looking up at Spoodles!

There is a new chef now (no longer Chef Tony) and the meal was wonderful.I must have misunderstood the server -- Chef Tony is indeed still at Spoodles. (I suspect he simply wasn't there the night we were there, and that was what the server was telling us...)
Regardless, my earlier comments stands: Spoodles has been wonderful through the years, and it still is.

Thanks for the review, we've been to Spoodles a few times over the years and have always enjoyed it. We skipped it this year because the menu seemed really limited. Maybe we'll have to add it to the list for next year. :thumbsup2
