View Full Version : 2007 Ladies Only Trip, Introductions thread

Hi all! I'm a newbie, and am planning and hoping to come this year. But, I feel a bit behind the curve ball having not gone last year and a bit lost in the chat thread.
So, I thought I'd start an introduction thread. This is basically to tell about who you are, some info about you, and reply to other's posts. I've been thinking about seeing if Beth would be okay with me posting a Getting to Know You Question of the Week as well. I don't want to step on any toes.

So, tell us about yourself. Put whatever you want in there!

I'll go first. I'm a 38 year old WOHM. I have three kids. Two boys, ages 10.5 & 12.5. I also have a little girl (aka "the Princess") who will be 5 next month.
I live in Minnesota, but grew up in the beach area of Los Angeles, and even lived in FL for awhile. My grandparents lived there all my life until they died.
I went to DL or WDW at least once a year, but more often twice a year, my entire life until I was 21. Since then, it's been an every other year event, typically. My DH and I went there for our Honeymoon. I love Disney!
My favorite character is Pooh Bear.
My favorite color is Purple.
My favorite wine is Reisling from Chateau Ste. Michele.

I guess that's it for now!

Hi! I'll go second. I think this thread is a great idea, I don't think anyone will think their toes are being stepped on! :cool1:

I'm on of the unmarried ladies (never been married) who tagged along on last years trip. Beth & the other mommies made me feel welcome right away.

I don't have any kids, but I have 13 nieces & nephews who range in age from 16 - 1 1/2. 2 of my nieces live in NY & I see them a lot.

I'm 45, I live on Long Island, NY, work as an editor for an internet publisher in midtown Manhattan. I'm a huge Mets fan, have loved them since I'm a little girl. I've always lived in NY, moved to LI when I was 8, and still live in the same house with my widowed father. I'm the second oldest of 6 kids.

I love Disney, but didn't get to go to WDW until I was 32 years old. I went to DL once, in 1995, and hope to get back there someday. I've tagged along with family, but in 2005 I went by myself & loved it. I was planning on doing another solo trip when Beth came up with this idea, and here I am!

I love Mickey the best, but I also love Ariel, Cinderella & Belle.

My favorite color is blue.

I love Mudslides. Yum.

My favorite type of food is Italian!

I love to cook, cross stitch & crochet.

I'm up next. I went down during the trip last year but only met a couple of the ladies for dinner once since I was with my kids. This time I'm going solo so hoping to meet a few more :yay:

I'm 49 years old ( 50 in November:eek: ) and a hugh Disney fan. My DH totally hates Disney so I've always come down with my kids. I have a DS 22 and a DD 19 that are both in college. I'm a bit of a workaholic, working full-time as an administrator of a nursing home and part-time for a local newspaper in circulation.

I'm a starwars geek..star tours is my favorite ride :cool1:

Minnie is my favorite character
My favorite color is purple
My favorite drink is Burgundy wine
My favorite thing to do at restaurants is try food I don't get/make at home.

Ouch!! Darn it!! Who the heck just stepped on my toes????

:rolleyes1 ;) :lmao: kidding.

Okay so there's the first thing you'll come to learn about me.....rude and sarcastic. :smooth:

Michelle, this is a wonderful idea, and we did these question and answer things last time too. I think they are buried somewhere between pages 1300 and 2200 on the chat thread. :rotfl:

One thing I've always said is the trip may have been my idea initially, but beyond that it belongs to us ALL. And all ideas no matter how big, small, wonderful, silly, wild, crazy, whatever, are more than welcome. Please, everyone remember that. :)

My turn... I am following Beth's format (the less thinking I have to do the better - I just hope I replace all her info with mine ;) )

Name: Kelly

Home: Ontario, Canada

Who I'm traveling with: Whether I come on this trip is yet to be determined but if I do it will probably be solo.

Ladies Trip Veteran or "Newbie": I like to use the word "tenured" :teeth: as veteran sounds so old

Favorite Disney park: can't pick just one

Favorite ride(s): tie between Soarin and Expedition Everest

Favorite character: Captain Jack Sparrow

Favorite color: brick red

Favorite drink: Cheap fruit flavored wine for everday drinking :rolleyes1 and Blue Goose for special occasions :cool1:

Favorite food: Definitely Italian with Mexican a close 2nd.

Other info:

I am 30 years old... born and raised in the same small sub division where DH and I have built our house. I moved away from this town for only 2 years, when I went to college. I love it and will probably be here till the day I die (but I do plan to be one of those annoying snowbirds that go South 4 months of the year - Kelli says that is ok as I long as don't "drive like a snowbird" :teeth:)

DH and I have been married for 5.5 years but together for 12 years. We have a DD who is 8 and a DS who will be 7 in March. I work in a call center as a Quality Specialist (you know, those eavesdroppers who are listening when "this call may be monitored for quality assurance")

I am a Disney addict - I can't get enough of the place and I expect I will always have at least one trip in the planning stages for the rest of my life.

Oh yeah and my favorite smilie is this one :teeth:

Favorite color: Blue. No! Yellow. AAAAAAAHAGGAAAH

OK, I'm going to add to my original post, since Beth & Kelly gave me some good ideas.

My favorite WDW park: Magic Kingdom. It is the most "Disney-fied" park to me. But I love Epcot too.

My favorite ride: Splash Mountain. And that makes me laugh. My first trip to WDW was in 1993. I went with my older brother, SIL & their 2 1/2 yr old twin boys (who are now 16!). SM had opened recently, my brother wanted to ride it in the worst way. I refused. My SIL was newly pregnant (they had done the pregnancy test the night before they left) & didn't want to ride. When we went to DL in 1995, we both refused again. And again in 1999. My niece Samantha went to WDW in 2003. She was 4 1/2. She rode Splash & loved it. So when I went with them in 2004, I had to ride. And loved it myself!

I also love Star Tours. If ST wasn't at MGM, I'd never go to MGM. I've been to AK once, liked it, have never gone back. But Christine has promised to make me go this time.

Jeminni were you at the Le Cellier dinner last year with your son and daughter? If so, I was at the table next to you.

My name is Pat. I was born and have lived all of my life in NYC. I am a genetic counselor and I work for a large medical center. I also work part time as a consultant for a private practice.
I have three sons, 24, 20, and 19 and I've been married for 26 years. I usually drag my husband along on my WDW trips but he is losing patience so I can only get away with 1 or 2 trips a year with him. He has no problem with my going alone.
We are DVC members and my favorite park is AK. Favorite ride is a toss-up between Soarin and Kilamanjaro Safari. I absolutely love WDW because we have been going there at least once per year since my oldest son was 5 years old. Some of our best family times were spent there and we have some great memories of those trips. My kids loved every minute spent there.
I love all kinds of food but my favorite would have to be Italian. I enjoy cooking also.
I did go on last year's trip and that was the first time I have ever been to the Food and Wine Festival. That is something I will definitely do again.

Favorite Disney park:Magic Kingdom

Favorite ride(s): Soaring, Everest Expedition, ToT, Space Mountain, RnRC. Oh, and watching Wishes, and the spectromagic parade.

Favorite character: Princesses, Tigger and Mickey. Oh, and a non Disney character would be Logan Huntzburger from Gilmore Girls. I have a crush on Logan Huntzburger

Favorite drink: Wine and beer. My favorite wine is Reisling Relax and I'm searching for a red wine that I like- I haven't been able to find one yet.

Favorite food: Sushi, Steak and a potato, Salmon, Maryland Vegetable Crab Soup. I love all food, it just depends what mood I'm in. I just don't like anything that spicy. Oh, and I love desserts, but I'm one of those freaks who doesn't LOVE chocolate. I like chocolate, but I'll pick a fruit tart over a triple chocolate cake any day! And I love fruit with my chocolate- like chocolate covered strawberries.

Favorite show: Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewifes, Brother's and Sisters, Lost, Brother's and Sisters, What about Brian....
All time favorite are: Gilmore girls, Friends and Little House on the Prairie.

Other info:

I'm 32. I've been with my DH for 6 1/2 years, and married for 5 years. We have 2 children- Zachary (4) and Lily (2). I'm a stay at home mom and feel very lucky for that. I want to have a third (and last) child soon. I'm hoping to be pregnant on the trip because then my kids would not be too far apart in age, but yet I wouldn't mind not, because then I could drink and ride the thrill rides! I'm excited to go to the Food and Wine festival, and it would be hard not to try to wine!

I have always loved Disney. I'm hoping to corrupt my kids into loving Disney also. I want them to grow up begging to go to WDW each year. My Dh likes Disney, but is not as much of a fan of the parks. He thinks they are only for kids because they only have "baby" rides. He can't understand why on earth I want to go to WDW without the kids. He'd be going to Cedar Point or Islands of Adventure or somewhere like that- with the best thrill rides. I want to go on this trip so I can do some of the things I can't do with my small kids- like have a nice peaceful dinner out, and go on a tour, and not have to parent swap the kids for rides and all that! And so I can meet some nice people who also love Disney!

My biggest hobby is eating out- I love to eat out. And when I get the chance- wine tastings, riding roller coasters, reading, cross stitch, scrapbooking, jigsaw puzzles, and pencil puzzles (logic prob's, word fines, ect)

Well that's about it!

Thanks everyone for responding!!! Hopefully, newbies and veterans both will post!

There were a couple questions asked that I haven't answered yet.
Overall, my favorite drink is a raspberry margarita, but I'm pretty open! It just has to be a girlie drink! :rotfl:

My favorite ride, that's a really tough one! If I had to pick just one ride I "must" go on, it's POTC. Though, I think my absolute favorite is Splash, I love the whole song of the south thing!

Favorite park? Once again, a tough one. If I had to rank them, I think they'd be MK, EPCOT, AK, & MGM.

My favorite food? Well, I love food, so once again, yep, it's tough. I think it's probably easier to put down what I don't like....seafood, greek, indian and thai. The first, I'm allergic to, the others, there's something about the spices that don't agree with me.

[QUOTE=Disney Freak Numero Uno;16927883]Jeminni were you at the Le Cellier dinner last year with your son and daughter? If so, I was at the table next to you.

Yes Pat that was me. It was a shame it was so crowded there and the way the tables were set up that none of us really got a chance to talk to each other. I see you said that you enjoyed the food and wine festival last year. I did too, looking forward to going back this year :drinking1 If you decide to go this year and need a park buddy to ride with just give me a yell ;)

Where did you grow up? I lived in SoCal for about 26 years, and my husband was born and raised there.

I miss it so much and I've only been away from it for 2 years. What about you? Ever miss it?

I grew up in Redondo Beach and then Torrance for awhile. I so very much miss the beach!! Though, a funny story...when my boys were 5 & 7, we combined a family trip to Disney with a family graduation. I was so excited because I was taking my kiddos to the ocean, a REAL beach for the first time. I took time looking at different beaches and deciced on Corona Del Mar, which was just beautiful! We went down there one afternoon and my boys wouldn't go beyond their ankles! GRRRRRR! They said the water was too rough, it smelled weird (the salt) and they were scared of it! I even rented a boogie board, and they weren't having anything to do with it! I was so bummed! And they were good swimmers, too. Oh well.
I miss the beach and the beach community. I like the beach during the day, but also at night, when it's quiet and you just sit and listen to the waves.

WDW has been our family vacation since 2001, at the end of each vacation we always say "Next year let's try something different," but within a couple of months that Disney fever hits again and back we go. My DS 12, Adam, is now a Disney addict, I have taught him right.

I've been in love with Johnny Depp since I was 17-long before that whole Pirate thing, I love 80's music but cringe when I look back at the hair and clothes :scared1: WTH were we thinking?

I would like to be able to DIS more but I get busy at work and I've got stinky dial up at home and it takes too long..I can't stay caught up with the conversation.

I love Redondo Beach! We used to go there alot to eat at the El Torito right on the pier there, and just walk around.

I miss it so much. I prefer the beach at night though. We used to go to Santa Monica at sunset and sit and watch the waves.

I do love the rocky coast line as well, like up near Pismo Beach or Morro Bay. Really nice up there.

And, Wednesday nights (at least during the summer) they had $1 margaritas, $1 tap beer, and $1 for three tacos in their cantina. We'd go down, get seats overlooking the water and eat and drink to our heart's content!

Hi. My name is Christine and despite my user name I am actually going to be 44...well, not till August. I found the Disboards when I was "helping" ;) my husband plan my 40th birthday bash over at Universal (aka my happy place). At the time the username seemed appropriate...little did I know I would be here 4 years later!

I have lived in Cincinnati for the past 15 or so years, but actually grew up on Long Island--not far from where Missy and Joanne live.

My Disney experience is actually quite limited--at least compared to my dozen trips to Universal....I had gone in the 70's for 4-5 days, spent one Christmas Day at Epcot in the 80's, then during my 40th birthday trip I met up with my brother and his family over at Boma for dinner. Last year I was planning my sister's 40th birthday bash at Universal and she wanted to go to the Magic Kingdom for a day with my nephew who was 7 at the time. Well, after I made all my air reservations and such, and researched MK to a fair the well, my sister's plans changed...;) . With all of that planning, I decided it was time for me to return to the MK--even if I had to do it solo. Then I decided that since me sister was leaving my 2 days earlier then expected, the suite over at the Portofino Bay was gonna cost me a huge chunk of change with not splitting the expense. So, I decided to move over to Pop for the last two nights. More planning...then decided that I would not possibly get to see all I wanted in that limited amount of time, so instead of staying 2 nights, I stayed 6!!! I had a good time. Saw all 4 parks and returned to Boma. Other then that, no TS, unless you count sitting at the counter at Beaches & Cream...I went to DTD a couple of times that trip as well.

My favorite ride is a toss up between Rock n Roller Coaster, and Dinosaur. I'd have to pick AK as my favorite park (and yes Missy, I will make you go!).

On a more personal note, I have been married for 12 years and we have a 14 year old son, who we adopted when he was 4. We are very active in our (Catholic) church and when I am not here, I am usually working. I am an attorney for the County Public Defender Office and have been representing felony drug offenders in our drug court for almost 10 years. :scared1: .

I don't watch much TV, but do like Law and Order. I was getting addicted to Court TV until Dish got rid of it. I still miss Forensic Files, but maybe going cold turkey was for the best!!

Well, I've put it off long enough. I guess it's about time I posted on the intro thread . . .

My name is Laura, and I am a newbie to the Ladies Only Trip. I plan on traveling solo but would love to convince my sister or friend to travel with me. I have a mild fear of trip abandonment. To me, the thought of riding POC alone would make me sad. I'd be thinking of my kids and wishing they were with me. So, I'm hoping to meet some new friends, do adult things like visit Pleasure Island when it's dark out, take the Segway tour (among others), and dine in places I wouldn't really want to take my kids to.

I work a more than full time job - I am an elementary school principal. I plan on saving vacation days to do the trip, and hope things don't get too crazy at work so I can still go! On the homefront, I have two kids - one girl and one boy :earsgirl: :earsboy: . We also have a rescue dog that rounds out the crazy bunch. Oh yeah - I almost forgot . . . I have a husband, too. We are at that stage where we kind of forget about each other as actual spouses because the house is so crazy! That's what happens with a 2 year old, a 6 year old, a crazy dog, an "interesting" job, after school activities . . . you know the drill. We are trying to get better at going on "dates", but we have a long way to go. We function well, so we roll with it!

In my spare time, which there doesn't seem to be any of, I like to scrapbook. I have a couple of books going at a time and none seem to be complete. At least I finished my 6 year old's "baby book". Now if I can only finish the 2 year old's before he graduates high school, I will feel as if I accomplished something!

I am a DVC owner. I own at the Boardwalk and would rather stay there than anywhere else. I absolutley love the location, the water slide (minus the crazy clown face), and the hustle and bustle at night. My favorite parks are MK and EPCOT. I love the more thrilling rides such as SM, RNR, TOT, etc. But I also enjoy old favorites such as Peter Pan and POC. The two rides I think need to go are Snow White and Stitch - even though I am a HUGE Lilo fan!

I don't really drink but am not against slamming back a few on the LO trip. Hey, if I can't do it then, I'm probably out of luck for quite some time. I haven't had a "buzz" in years and think I may be allergic to something in wine. But I will probably try some at the Festival anyway. I love Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, and Propel Fitness Water.

Well, I guess that's enough for now . . . my 2 year old is screaming about something - but what else is new?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my hubby DISLIKES DW! I don't let it stop me though. I either plan trips with my sister and her family and/or my mother. Heck, I don't care who I take as long as I go. I bought at DVC with my husband's blessing but also with the understanding that he would only go once in a couple of years. I don't like visiting with people who aren't into it anyway - I wouldn't take athiests to the Holy Land, so don't spoil my religious experience either!

Laura, I ride POTC alone often. It's not sad at all. I'm going to do it again soon so I can take some photos of my Halloween costume (especially since they don't seem to care whether or not you take flash photos in there anymore)

forget visiting PI when it's dark out, you need to visit the Adventurers Club.

I'm sorry if I didn't communicate that well. I don't mean sad as in "pathetic". I meant sad as in I'd feel lonely and start thinking about my kids. I don't get to spend too much time alone . . .

I only went into AC once while in my drinking way too much days. At that point of my life, I didn't get "AC" and spent my time on the revolving dance floor at Mannequin's. I'd love to give AC a try again as my revolving dance floor days are far behind me!

Well hello all,

My name is Lori and I am a 39 year old mom of 2, a 10 year old daughter
and my prince who is 5. I am a travel agent and that's why it took me so
long to post this, we are so busy at work. I am happily divorced, but have
a great relationship with my ex, you know he has to watch the kids when I
go to Disney. I now live in Worcester Mass, but I was born and raised in
The Bronx. I also am involved with a Health and Wellness company that
I hope will let me be a stay at home mom soon. I am the disney specialist
in my office, and of course I always recommend Disney when people
can't decide where they want to go. I can't wait to meet you all.

I checked on the WDW website. It is the very end of August. I am going in August and just wanted to make sure it was NOT going on while I'm there. I will be on the DP via DVC. Free dining makes the TS restaurants way too crowded!
