Not only did we not get a dream ( which I didn't expect ) But we didn't see anyone get a dream either! It was really disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing some really happy moments.

That's too bad. Hopefully you still enjoyed the magic that is Disney, dream or not.

Yeah - we were there for three days last month and didn't see anything. It was OK because it was the first visit for my kids, but on our trip this weekend I hope I get to see someone get a wish!!

We had the same experience in January, though I admit to being disappointed that we didn't get anything. Even an acknowledgment of some type would be nice. We never saw the Dream Team at all.

I wonder if some people will be turned off to WDW because of this. I'm addicted. I'll go back regardless. I think that the program is being hyped so much that many people may leave feeling like they were left out.

Then you hear about the family who got dreams every day they were there and you start wondering, "gee my family must suck!"

We just got back yesterday and we also did not see a single dream squad awarding any dreams. I was so disappointed, not in that we didn't get any prizes, I just wanted to see the dream squad in action and point them out to my kids and DH. We also spent 6 days in the parks both mornings to early afternoons and again in the evenings so its not like we weren't out and about. I just think it would have been so cool to see them awarding prizes!! Guess we were in all the places the dream squad was not!!! However we had wonderful minimum waits all over the parks - that was a prize itself. :) Yes, we had a wonderful time and the absense of dreams did not diminish in our trip in any way.

I was at WDW for only 2 days a few weeks ago and while I never saw the dream team in action, I saw quite a few Dream FastPasses around the necks of other lucky guests. My neices and I were very quick to point them out to each other. But I don't think it ever made us feel bad that we didn't get them, we understood that there are thousands and thousands of people in the parks and we thought it was special just to get to see the Dream FastPasses in person.

And I think everyone needs to realize that the "Year of a Million Dreams" is probably made up mostly of minor dreams. My neices got a few of these just in 2 days - but they were very minor. A cast member asked them if they would like a free pin. But instead of just handing them a pin, she gave each of them a pin attached to a special YOAMD certificate commemorating the experience.

Then the next night as we were checking out of a store in Epcot, the cast member asked my oldest neice (14yo) if she had ever considered a job with Disney. When she of course said yes, he said "well get back here behind the counter and ring up this purchase." He walked her through how to run the cash register and credit card machine and then he also gave her a special YOAMD certificate for the experience. I know some people may think it sounds strange, but she got a kick out of it (and we did too).

So anyway, maybe we were the exception to the norm also, but I think it's going to be a fun year in the world of the Mouse!

We have seen Mary Poppins ride on the carosel twice with families. So maybe if you hang out there you will see someone get a dream come true. It is so cute to see her there in her fancy dress riding side saddle!

We stayed 8 days and noticed some small things around us get awarded but nothing big. I think at a CS in MK a big group got a private table and two little girls in the Toon Town Fair got to make Mr. Potato heads of the week.

I noticed larger groups getting pulled to the side walking around MK but not sure what they got. I saw very few Dream fastpasses and Blue mickey hats but thats about it. I was there Jan 26-Feb-3.

We didn't win anything but that was okay. We hardly waited at any rides so the fastpasses would of went to waste. We had a great time anyway and can't wait to get back!

So because you didn't see anyone winning special ears or fastpasses, there were NO happy moments in the parks? I find that impossible to believe.

Magic goes on every day, all around - you just have to be open to seeing it. It doesn't only involve cast members in special shirts.

I agree. We didn't witness anyone getting a dream in Jan either but did see several ears and fastpasses.

I didn't go expecting anything and wasn't disappointed. I always just feel fortunate to be there!!!!!:goodvibes

If someone is not expecting it, how could they be disappointed. Just because it wasn't witnessed by everyone doesn't mean it didn't happen. These dreams can happen anywhere at anytime.. and for you to "win" or "see" it, you have to be in the right place at the right time.. if you are in Pooh, you cannot see what is happening in Space Mt or PoC ;) heck for that matter, if you are outside waiting on the line, you cannot see what is happening at the end of the ride where you exit...

:rotfl: I really didn't think about it too much until I started reading these threads - now, I'm wondering what the heck was wrong with us that we didn't get even get a certificate or a pin or something!!!

I've been to WDW 3 times since the promotion started, and each time I've seen many Dream Ears, FastPasses, and lanyards, and several times I saw the Dream Team, but I never got any official "Dreams". I am just so delighted to be there, and I look around at all the people and think how lucky I am to live close to such a wonderful place. I wonder if the person in front of me in line is on the dream trip of a lifetime that they've scrimped and saved for years to go on. I see people with "1st Time" buttons and smile. I won't say I don't care that I don't win; I would absolutely adore the ears or the lanyard (to say nothing of the Castle stay, lol!), but I just love the place so much that the sadness of not winning is overshadowed by the joy of just being there! Heck, last time I went I didn't care if I rode anything, I only cared to soak in the atmosphere! Disney itself is enough magic for me, but if I get extra, HOLY COW! You'd better believe I'm going to jump up and down like a little kid! :goodvibes It just not my reason for going, and it won't ruin my day if I don't win.

We were there nine days 1/1 -1/9 seen maybe 2-4 people with the dream fast passes and lanyards and that was it. We didn't get any dreams granted. My kids (4 ages 11-4) didn't understand why some people were treated special. I am going back in about two weeks for my 30th Birthday and my sisters first trip and I am not expecting any dreams to be granted my way. :( I am happy for everyone that has been granted dreams it is just hard to explain to a 4 and 7 year old why they didn't get special things.

Can not wait to go back!

While it's a cool promotion, there is no question that we let our recent trip (1/19-1/28) get somewhat dimished by it. We saw quite a few Dream Ears and Fast Passes. We saw the Dream Team several times but never personally...we missed out on an "extra-hour-after-hours" at the MK by just a few moments. To make things worse, it was clear that a number of these dreams were granted to people who really didn't care about them. This was discouraging to us, because we really would have been excited to receive then ourselves.

The problem really was with us, though. We were coveting and that in itself was wrong. We let that take away from the simple joy of being able to visit Disney World, which in itself would be a dream for many people.

Just mentioning in case there are future visitors with personality types like ours.

I received a gigantic chocolate chip cookie from Main St bakery the first weekedn of the promotion. I also observed one last week. I was in fantasyland and was walking past Peter Pan when something caught my eye. I saw a CM pulling a family out of line and whisking them right up front so they would not have to wait.

I saw several people with the "cool" ears ay MK on Tuesday (2/13) and several people with Dream Fast passes as well. At Epcot on Wednesday (2/14), I saw only Dream Fast passes on atleast 2 different groups.

What did the Dream Team look like anyways??

I just have to add this one...
Just spent 4 days at DL. On the 14th(my B-day) a family was picked to be the Grand Marshalls and a stay at the Minnie's suite!
The father was PO'ed ! He only went to DL to in his words "to shut up his bratty daughter about going to DL!!!"
I would have loved ANYTHING from the Dream Team! Beyond that... I still had a very breath taking birthday.

I guess some people will never be pleased or happy:confused3

Like I mentioned in every other "disappointed" post - the dream squad EXCLUSIVELY uses backstage areas. They only hand out prizes a handful of times a day. Your odds of actually seeing a dream squad member are slim to none. I'm here 40+ hours a week and am lucky to see them 1x. They are literally prize ninjas. They always have a manager with them who gives them a time frame so they are in-and-out within minutes.
Look for people wearing the dream ears, lanyards, and fastpasses though ... you'll see plenty of them.

In December, wasn't much but it made our day, we were chosen to go ahead of everyone on the Test Track ride (which I was a little chicken about)..Family of the hour I think they called it and another day, we also went ahead of everyone on a ride in Dinorama (a spiny ride I didn't actually want to go on) but they said we coud go twice...so I guess I got to like it! and they gave us a limited print so it was pretty cool :cool1:

Wow,
Honestly I feel we have already won "a dream" by being able to go to Disney World again! We love Disney & we feel blessed just by being able to go.
I have not heard either of my kids even mention anything about this,so I doubt they will be upset if they dont get picked. They did say it was cool for the person who won the stay in the castle but other than that nothing.
We are just so excited about our upcoming trip that we dont care about being at the right place at the right time. As far as we are concerned we will be at the "right place" as soon as we step foot on that Magical Express bus.
LOL;)

I wonder if the execs at Disney regret this promotion. They try to do something special and instead of being excited, so many people are upset that they didn't recieve a "Dream." I'm with the group that is just so excited to be at Disney that anything else is a bonus.

And by the way, I was this close to a dream pass this last October. Went on Splash Mountain with my dad, and had a great time chatting with a nice lady and her son in the log with us. When we were done they headed to Big Thunder Mountain. I wanted to too, but dad wasn't up for it. We ran into the same people later in the day, and they had the dream passes around their necks. They got them when they went on Big Thunder. Seems they were handing a bunch of them out. Was I disappointed? Yes. Was I so upset that it ruined my vacation and made me mad at Disney? NO!

It is a promotion and not everyone will win. Why go in expecting something and set yourself up to be disappointed?:confused3

That sounds like their personal problem. People shouldn't set the bar of expectations so high that they are letting THEMSELVES down. Disney isn't letting them down; they are.

We were just there and saw people with the fast pass lanyards, but never saw the dream team. I did not expect anything--we never win, so it was not a personal let down, but I am not going crazy over the promotion. It seems like the small dreams, should be a part of extra special customer service, not a major promotion.

Does anyone know how his is going over--is it a success?

SarahKate

Why would Execs regret this decision??? This is NOT an entitlement, it is the luck of the draw.

Think about all the people who don't even KNOW about this program - and if they've heard of it, they probably don't know what it's even about. We are in a special situation here on the DIS. We have knowledge of all things Disney. And that can be a total CURSE, because we know too much.

I would much rather just be approached by a cast member giving me a prize, having not known a darn thing about YOAMD!

After reading these posts about people being all disappointed, all I can say is wow! It's not enough that you're IN WDW???

That said, we just got home on 2/9 and to be honest I had for the most part forgotten about the promotion. But then on about the 3rd day I was seeing people with the lanyards. Lucky them! It didn't bum me out and make my trip less than magical!

We did get a little piece of the magic though. One day at MGM I had ordered a small popcorn and a soda. The cast member gave us one of the plastic buckets (w/ a handle) of popcorn and only charged us for the soda! Not a big thing, but we were tickled by it!!! I would love to be a cast member and be able to just surprise people, even in these small ways.

Wow... I guess I would put forth a gentle suggestion that it might be OK to be disappointed. I look at it like the kid who goes to a baseball game and afterwards looks for his favorite player for an autograph, but before he gets the signature, the ball player needs to leave for the locker room. You know the kid was happy to be at the game, but you also know he was disappointed not to get the autograph. So why can't these fans of Disney be a little disappointed in not getting a dream? Seems natural anough for me. Not trying to stir up a debate, but I thought it necessary to validate some feelings.

Why? and Why Not? Sorry but I am of both sides of the debate. . .while part of me would love to receive a bit of "free" Disney magic, the other part of me says that hey, its enough that you are taking your first trip to WDW. I have been an AP holder at DLR forever and have gottensome special stuff but WDW is a whole new ball game. . .I won't be disappointed but I still would love to win something. . .

What if I said the kid had a hope/desire/wish/dream to get the autograph? Does that perhaps clarify where I'm coming from?

I understand your disappointment at seeing people who "didn't care" about their prizes... I personally saw someone win a Dream Pin Lanyard and toss it in a trash can as they walked away. That's disappointing, to be sure... but it also saddens me to see families wearing matching T-shirts reading "PICK US TO WIN A NIGHT IN THE CASTLE!" It seems to me these folks are just setting themselves up for heartache.

The Dream Squad members have absolutely no control over how the prizes are awarded; they'll get a message stating something like "Give out 100 Dream Fastpasses to the first 100 guests to exit Big Thunder Mountain at 9:45am." Other prizes are similarly awarded.

Me, when I go to the parks, I just tell myself that if I win something, hey, lucky day! If not, I'm at FREAKIN' DISNEY WORLD, and magic -- and dreams -- are all around me. Like the little boy wrapped in an embrace with Pooh -- hugging what I imagine he sees as the world's biggest plush bear. Or the teenage girls swooning over Jack Sparrow, dreaming they could catch his fancy as Elizabeth did.

Being part of the year of a million dreams doesn't necessarily mean your dream of a free fastpass or Mickey ears or even a stay at the castle will come true... but what about your dream of sailing the Caribbean and watching Pirates hunt for treasure? Or a dream of exploring a condemned hotel? Or of flying through the galaxy and helping to destroy the Death Star? Or even of catching a glimpse of Mary Poppins?

The Year of a Million Dreams is about ALL Disney dreams. I say we all enjoy it and let the magic take us Dreamers if it will.

In Epcot, perhaps. I know that in the Magic Kingdom they spend a lot of their time on stage doing guest service-type stuff.

If anyone is wondering, the Dream Squad costume consists of a sky-blue oxford-style button-down shirt, khaki slacks, and (sometimes) a white vest with the Dream Squad logo on the back or dark blue coat. They may have stopped wearing the vests; I've heard of a number of situations where Dream Squad members have been harassed by guests demanding prizes.

Personally, I get a much bigger kick out of seeing other people -- especially families with children - win stuff than I probably ever would out of winning it myself. :rolleyes1

The exception being the really REALLY big prize of the DVC resort points. That I would get pretty excited about :)

We were there for 8 nights in February and went to the parks every day. We saw lots of people with dream fast passes and DD12 saw them being awarded to a group in the green line at Mission: Space. She was in the orange line. She was bummed to not get one, and that's OK. It is normal for anyone. It did not, however, ruin our trip to see someone else win. DD12 said it was fun to watch the suprised expressions on the faces of those who won them.

When we checked in for our ADR at California Grill (planned months in advance to be able to be there for the fireworks) a young family was there to check in because they won a dinner at CaliGrill that afternoon. We were delighted to see them win it because they were so genuinely excited. Someone else in line cursed under her breath and said she didn't feel they were "deserving." Can you believe it!?!

We go to WDW usually 2x a year and enjoy the magic of whatever is there. Sure, it would have been fun to win something. But, CM's make magic there every day when they leave your stuffed animals playing games on your kid's bed, when they make your kid's sundae extra big just because, and in so many other ways.

There is a difference between *acknowledging* one's feelings and *indulging* one's feelings. People seem to be confusing the two. You can acknowledge your feelings exist without indulging them. Just because something is "natural" doesn't make it right. I just bought a megamillions ticket (it's over $150 million right now). Might I, for a split second, feel bummed when I don't win? Sure. In acknowledging that will I give myself license to moan and groan about how the world isn't fair and how I never win anything and others who do win are less deserving than me or appreciate less than I would? Heck no.

Some feelings are like day old trash, they should be acknowledged only long enough to kick them to the curb. Ignoring them *or* indulging them just ruins everything else around them.

This thread cracks me up. I have read a few threads with the same theme, whine. I especially like the threads where the poster is whining...how all the families with small children win.......give me a break!!! This promotion is very simialiar to the odds of winning the lottery. This is not an accurate statement. The Dream Squad members are NOT exclusively backstage nor do they ALWAYS have a manager with them. Yes, they do have a manager with them when they are handing out the very special prizes such as the castle stay. But, at least at Epcot, the Dream Squad members can be seen around the park - they'll be wearing light blue shirts and khaki pants, sometimes a white vest.

We just returned from WDW and did not receive any dreams nor see many that did. Was I somewhat disappointed, yes, but I believe that is human nature. Especially after reading these boards and hearing everyones stories. Was I expecting a dream? No. Was I wanting to receive a dream? Why YES! Does that make me a bad person? I hope not. Just human. Did we still have a wonderful time? YES, YES, YES! Will we go back even though we didn't get a dream? Hopefully next year. We passed out our own Disney magic. We gave away fastpasses when we couldn't use them. Our son commented each time how happy the kids were they gave them to. We made sure the little ones by us at the parades could see and moved out of the way if they couldn't. We watched our son talk to other adults about pin trading and just life in general when we were in lines or on the bus. It made our heart sing. It was a wonderful vacation even though we didn't get a dream but I would have still loved to receive one and I don't think that's a crime. haha Lynn

We were there in November for our Disney Wedding and Honeymoon for a total of 7 days. We did not see any magic being spread and we did not recieve any either. We then went back in December/January and the same thing happened nothing was seen or recieved. The program must be winding down in some sense. I was in all four parks over last Thurs-Sunday. I saw one group of dream teamers, and I'm not sure they were actually doing or awarding anything. They may have just been on greeter duty, although one did have a bag.

I saw no one in any park with dream fastpasses, or light up hats or anything. I didn't care, because I was there in October and saw very little then, but it sure isn't in wide effect currently either.

No matter what day we go to the park we alway see folks with the dream fastpasses around their necks or a group of people who have won the Dream Ears and the lanyards.

DD and I won the lanyards (we are pin collectors so that's a good thing) and twice been within a group or two of the group that won the ears - which is what I really really want!

Yes, it IS an accurate statement. When the Dream Squad is in "prize mode" (in the vests), you will not see them except when they are just about to give a prize, are giving it, or have just given it. They do ALWAYS have a manager with them to observe for legal purposes.
The light blue shirts and khaki pants are when they are acting as "super greeters."

When we were there from 12/6/06 - 12/11/06, our DS got a couple of "cast only" pins, a free Buzz Lightyear mug at Pizza Planet, and a sweet little girl shared a special Tink pin that you only get from cast members that has one to keep and one to give! :goodvibes

We also saw a couple of families with the Dream Fastpasses handing around their necks!

Just playing Devil's Advocate here (or, as Disney's marketing team calls it, "Chernabog's Advocate")... but I think CPer'sMom was challenging this statement of yours:

Like I mentioned in every other "disappointed" post - the dream squad EXCLUSIVELY uses backstage areas.

And I agree with her. They do not.

In reference to the original post, though, I was replying to when they are in "prize-giving mode."

We were there for 12 days in January, spent 11 of them in the parks and we didn't see a thing! I really didn't know what to look for but I was looking! I was already to congratulation whoever I saw but there was nothing out of the ordinary going on around us at any time.
We are going back in June, I hope I see someone get something fun!

:confused3 I was just wondering..what does the dream team look like? Are they dressed like CM? or are they wearing something special? Iam leaving in 11 days,...I'll be on the lookout for them!

Thank you :) That is indeed what I was referring to.

I've been to DL, DLRP, and WDW several times in the last three months; either alone or with another (adult) friend.

We've received many dreams and magical moments: twice dream fastpasses at AK (I gave one of mine away to a stranger), double fastpasses many times, a magical moment certificate, an offer to ride Casey Jr until park closing, etc etc etc.

Never did I expect or search out a dream or a magical moment - often we created the moment by chatting with a CM and having them surprise us.

The dream fastpasses were handed out very surreptitiously - on EE at the exit; we were on the train which pulled up at exactly 10am and won. At Primeavil Whirl, the dream team was hidden around a corner, waiting for people to pass.

I did however experience some ugliness - I was shoved into a wall by a young couple and realized later that they were trying to get to the dream team at Primeavil Whirl. At EE the man behind me was livid that I had a dream fastpass (I never wore mine, just took it out to give to the CM) and that it was UNFAIR that he didn't get one and how did they give them out and it was UNFAIR that people like me were clogging up the fastpass line. This on a very very quiet cold January day.

Again, perhaps they do things differently at Epcot than in other parks...

I've seen them in the white vests (which they ONLY wear when giving out dreams, or so they tell me) walking onstage to their destinations, or away. At the MK (which is where I work) some of the biggest dreams have been awarded at attractions with NO backstage access -- I heard about one guest who won a $500.00 shopping spree at the Emporium simply by riding the right horse on Cinderella's Golden Carousel at the right time.

Of course, when I heard that, my first thought was "So she bought what, a couple of sweatshirts?" :rolleyes2

Just got back.. saw lots of special ears and YOAMD fastpasses things.

I *think* we saw the back of the dream team cast members exiting a monorail or something.. but really not sure... we were on another platform and just leaving the station.

I 'gave' a guy his YOAMDreams 'dream' while at Pleasure Island.. I was chatting up this British guy in line behind me to get a beer.. so I just bought him his beer. At first he was like "I can't accept that" -- and I'm like.. "Its your DREAM! .. take the beer.. "

And then I walked away.. he drank the beer.

Just got back from a six day trip and first let me say it was wonderful and winning this prize was just a little frosting on the cake! My dh, his bf and I were getting on the train to go back to the front of the park and there they were with white vest and all! My heart just dropped and she said she was awarding me a dream and gave me the lanyard (sp?) with the pins! I was so excited I nearly fell over myself on the train! It's not the night stay in Cinderella's castle but I never win anything and it being my first time I was really excited just thought I would share.

We were there for 6 days in February, and while I was very aware of the promotion before I went, I honestly forgot about it once I got there. I saw the occasional fastpass and the dream mouseears, but other than that, I didn't notice much. I didn't win anything, but I am just toally thrilled to be there!
