Upgrade E-mail! (Interesting UPDATE post 15)

Anyone else get a free upgrade e-mail? Over my lunch I was surprised by a Disney Destinations e-mail stating we could up grade from our value/mod reservation to OKW or SSR. :cool1: Talk about AWESOME!!!!!! I'm guessing it is because they are booked at a lot of the values/mods during Spring Break and need to get some business over to the lesser-used/unoccupied DVC rooms...or they might want to ger repeat visitors over to try DVC in hopes they might buy into it??? Or both....or neither....since we don't know how people get special code/pin e-mails in the random system. I haven't had time to call yet and get the low-down and make my choice. DH said he's fine with either.

ANYWAY....I almost tinkled in my trousers to see the sender in my inbox and then further hypervenilated to see the upgrade offer since I knew we were going during a busy/peak time when they offer no real discounts. We normally would not go this time of year excpet for the inline marathon falls on the first weekend of Spring Break. Oh, I'm on :cloud9: !!!!!

WOW! What a decision you HAVE to make! I love the look of SSR, but did visit the grounds of OKW last year & it too is beautiful! I don't think you can make a bad decision!! Congrats!! Woo hoo!!

Last summer while I was planning our trip I remember lots of posts from people at the values and the mods being offered upgrades to SSR and OKW. I'm very happy for you. I bet it is a sign that your vacation is going to be extra wonderful:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Ok so here is my interesting update....

I called at 3:30 this afternoon and got a friendly CM. She pulled up my current reservation, confirmed I had a code w/my e-mail that then was confirmed in her computer with my name. Then she put me on hold while she checked with "guest services". I was on hold for about 8 minutes. When she came back she said everything worked, except the computer is saying that there are no rooms available for my travel dates, even though the e-mail says I received the free upgrade. She said not to worry, but to call back in the coming days/weeks to see if something is freed up. She said she couldn't guarrantee that rooms would become available, but that it is often the case if it doesn't work right away. I said no problem and thanked her.

So being the impatient Dis-er that I often am, I hang up and then I try again using one of the 1-800 numbers. I get a gentleman named "Hamel" who is again very poilte. He verifies everything again as the first CM did and puts me on hold for about 5 min. He comes back and says it's taking longer than he expected and was I at home, to which I said no, I was at work, but that I was done with work and could wait. He said he was unsure how long it would take, but that he could call me at home and leave a voice mail when he got me the reservation. He verified my home number, I thanked him, and hung up. An hour and a half later I got home to a message from him. He said that he's still working with Guest Services on getting me the upgrade reservation, there were some problems, and "Don't worry," he would continue to try this evening and tomorrow. He will call me back and leave a message again.

The e-mail reads that we received a free upgrade to SSR or OKW because our travel dates fall between 3/29 and 4/14. We are going 3/30-4/3. I asked the first CM if it could be due to the fact that the e-mail was just sent out today and she said no, that they had all been briefed in the new promotional e-mail and it had been entered into the system for about a day, so that wouldn't be the case.

Anyone ever encounter this issue when trying to book with a code or pin attached to an e-mail or postcard?

Hey! I was just wondering if those were the only dates that would be able to get an upgrade. I'm booked for March 7-12 at Pop Century and would love to upgrade. I tried to get a moderate room but there all booked up!!

Anyone ever encounter this issue when trying to book with a code or pin attached to an e-mail or postcard?

I know last May 06 they had upgrades to SSR in May. My sister-in-law, her dh and his family received the e-mail, but they ignored it.

I belong to the April code thead, and we all have been waiting for some kind of code for Easter and it never happened. My theory is they are getting last minute ressies for people that want to go during Easter break. WDW has a commercial promo going on where a family of 4 for $1600 most times during the year. So I am guessing they want to accommodate these people and not loose them.

Also, WDW may be waiting for DVC to open a block of rooms and they sent the e-mail to soon.
