My family will be going on 7-13-08 also. There is me, my DH, DS (will be 18 - we havebooked him, but will give him the choice to go or not as it comes closer), and DD (will be 13). We will be a cat 9 room on deck 2. We are also traveling with 2 other families who both have girls that will be 11 & 12 during the trip.
This will be the 2nd cruise for me & my DD's 2nd DCL cruise, as we were on the 11-night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Magic in September. It was a girls trip, we went with my mother, and left all the boys at home! :woohoo:
We had such a fun trip that I told my husband when we heard the announcement for the West Coast itinerary that we are definately going because I want him to see how great the ship is (plus we don't have to pay to fly).:thumbsup2

My older DD's will be 14 and 10 when we cruise, so they'll definitely have to meet your dd and the other girls who are going. I'm sure they will meet in the kids club. If your DD will be 13, will she be going to Teen club (for ages 13-17)? My 10 year old will be in the younger group (for ages 8-12).
We were also thrilled when Disney announced the west coast cruises as well. We live in Northern California and just thrilled that we won't need to fly. That's what has kept us from going on the Disney cruise in the past. The cruise itself is expensive, but add 6 airfares cross country and it's far too expensive.

Sounds like a good age group with all the girls. When we went on the cruise in September my DD was; upset because I wouldn't let her sign herself out of the club (gee, what a mean mom!). So she boycotted the club and wouldn't go at all. She is usually very outgoing and makes friends easily, but just wouldn't try the club last time. But we still had a fabulous time since it was just a girls trip anyway.
I'm not sure what will happen this time since my DD would be in the teen club and her friends will be in the age group below.

My "will be 14-year-old" isn't really responsible so she won't be signing herself out either. I'm sure she'll want to go though. She'll enjoy what freedom she has while she's there in the club. My "will be 10-year-old" will be just shy of 11 by one month, but she won't be signing herself in or out either. I'm a little overprotective, but I'd rather know where they are than having them wander the ship as they please.

Hi everyone! We'll also be sailing at this time. It will be our 4th cruise. We live in Nevada so we will probably drive to the port too.
We are:
Me
DH
DD - 14 at time of cruise
DD - 11 at time of cruise
We are also sailing with two other families. The first family has two small children who will be 1 and 3. The second family has a DS who will be 18, a DD who will be 16 and another DD who will be 12.
Looking forward to this cruise! Mexico here we come!

If I'm not mistaken, a 14 year old doesn't have to sign themselves out. The teens can come and go as they please. Sorry!

Maybe we should PM mailing address and the girls' names and let them write each other. I know my daughters would love to have "pen pals" that will be on the same cruise. They could get to know each other before we sail and be able to look forward to meeting someone that they already "know". Let me know if you are interested. My email address is KBThomason@ comcast.net if you are interested.

Hi,
We are booked on this cruise too, also cat. 9 on deck 2. My husband and I will both be 40 next year and our daughter will have just turned 13 a few weeks prior to the cruise and my son will be 11. We cruised on the Wonder once for the 3 night in '05. We live in Orange County about 20 minutes south of Disneyland. It is going to be so great not to have to fly. :cool1:

Wow! Lots of girls on this cruise. I'm going to ask my girls if they want to email to "meet" ahead of time. We did this on our last cruise and they had a great time with their new friends.
Have a great day everyone!

I might be on this cruise, I don't know what one my dad booked yet, he hasn't told me, but he booked one I know. I've been on the wonder once is 2002, magic is 2005, and magic is 2006 double dip cruise. I'll be 20 by the time of the cruise, I am 18 now and my first year of college. I just wanted to say hi.

Hi Brenda,
Saw your post about the kid's club on the main cruise board. Sounds like it will work out for you and your 14 year old DD. Do you think that she will mind not being able to go to the teen's club? I know that this will be the first time that my oldest is able to go and she can't wait. We did give our girls sign out privileges on our last cruise and thankfully it worked out okay. They both had friends that they had made online before getting there and pretty much stuck with these girls. They knew that if they broke our rules about the sign out that they would lose their privileges.

Hi,
Can you fill me in on what the main post had to say? My daughter will have just turned 13 about three weeks prior to the cruise so I am very concerned about her being in the teen area, I am not sure she will be ready to be hanging with 16 and 17 year olds. I also don't think her 11 year old brother will enjoy the Lab without her. I was thinking of seeing if she could still be in the Lab. Is that possible? Thanks for any info. :thumbsup2

I'll ask my daughter to see if she would be interested in having some pen pals before the trip (I don't want to commit her if she isn't interested in keeping up with writing). But it sounds like a excellent idea and a great way for the kids to make new friends.

Well, here lies the problem. If I let her go to the teen club and she doesn't follow the rules, then what can I really hold over her head. If the teens aren't signed in or out at all, then I can't use that if I need to. The only other option would be to not allow her to go at all if she doesn't abide by our rules. But then it makes it no fun for her or us. We do want to have a little time alone as well and know that she would enjoy the clubs.

I understand where you're coming from. One of the reasons we love DCL is because we can also have some alone time. It's one of the only vacations where we can do things together as a family but also feel secure in letting the kids do things on there own so we can also do things on our own.

Yesterday I was messing around on the Disney website. I decided to price out our cruise staying in a category 6 instead of the cat. 9 that we have reserved. The price difference for 2 staterooms was only $1000. DH said he'd be willing to pay the difference for the verandah. I said I would call our travel agent today. So today I went back online because I wanted to make sure they had 2 cat. 6 connecting rooms before I called our TA. The price for the 2 cat. 6 rooms went up $2600 overnight!!! Guess we didn't want a verandah that bad.

Hello all,

I can't wait!

Hi Linda,
Nice to meet you! Can you give us some info on your 2005 cruise? Did you do any excursions? If so, which ones and what were they like? Thanks!
Mulan's Ma
02-18-2007, 05:17 PM
Funny, I can't really remember which excursion was in which city, but we did the Folkloric Show in one of them and the Dolphin Encounter in another. In Cabo we just got off the ship and walked around. This time I don't plan on taking any excursions as I found them overpriced and not that special. My biggest complaint was that I felt we overscheduled (my fault) and were rushing around instead of just enjoying ourselves. I was on the WE MUST HAVE FUN powertrip! Of course, my daughter was only 5 then and still taking her afternoon naps so she was exhausted and that only made things worse. My plan this time is to go to local hotels/beaches and relax and really enjoy Mexico. My daughter will love it!

Thanks for the info Linda. I know what you mean about overscheduling. We did that on our first cruise. Now I try not to overschedule but I have to admit it's hard for me because I'm a compulsive planner when it comes to our vacations!

Hi Everyone,
I have been thinking about those excursions too. I wish we had an at sea day between the ports as I am sure it can get exhausting doing three ports in a row. Thank you for the advice, I will try not to overschedule us so that we can relax and enjoy. Thanks!:thumbsup2

Hi,
I ordered the Passporter guide to DCL third edition that talked about the ports and shore excursions from the last time DCL did Mexico. It does look like they had some fun stuff. Of course it seemed like everything that I wanted to do was all in the same port! I guess I'll have some time to get it all figured out. :thumbsup2

I'm sure there is a lot of threads on this, but what is the passporter? I've seen people mention it and am not sure what it is.
As far as excursions, we probably aren't going to take any Disney excursions on this trip. We've been to Cabo quite a bit (we have a time share there) and absolutely love it. We will probably just get a cab and go to Santa Maria bay to go snorkeling, maybe have some lunch at some of our favorite restaurants, and do some shopping (shopping always needs to fit in somewhere!).
carole88

The Passporter is a guide book. It contains lots of great information about the ship, the excursions and the ports. It is especially helpful for those who have never cruised with DCL before. This book was pretty much my bible the first time we cruised. I still like to read it now. It gets me in the mood for cruising! I'm hoping that they come out with a new edition for the 2008 Mexican Riviera.

Hurray!!!
Thanks for starting this thread.
We booked last week and I have been trolling here looking for other travelers on this date every since.
OK-so this is us:
Me (42), DH (45), DD (13 at cruise time), DD (11 at cruise time), MIL and FIL.
This is our second west coast DCL cruise. We were on deck 2, Cat 10 our first trip. This time we are still Cat 10, but up on deck 7 with my in-laws.
We are very excited. We loved our first cruise with Disney. I love to plan and I haven't stopped thinking about this cruise!! My family thinks I'm nuts.

Hi!
I just read in Passporter's field guide to the DCL (3rd edition) that Disney was considering changing its teen program by separating them into two groups, younger and older. I really like that idea. I wonder if that has happened. Anyone know?
My 13 year old will probably want to hang around with 13/14 year olds vs. the 16/17 year old crowd. And frankly, I think the younger age group would be much more appropriate for her.
califchris-would love to hear more about the snorkling in Santa Maria Bay and the nice place to eat in Cabo, if you're willing to share. ;)

Glad to see that this thread has made it to the top again!
I have the 2007 Passporter as well as the 2005 one that had the Mexico info in it. Between the two, I have found a ton of useful info and great tips. The 2008 Passporter should show the updated Mexico info for our cruise, so I can't wait for it to come out so I can pour over it.
We've already been talking about what we want to do in the ports. DH and the kids would really like to do the Dolphin Swim/Experience in Puerto Vallarta. I know our two older kids and dh would also love to parasail (I'm too chicken!). We'd love to see some of the sights in each port, and I'd love to enjoy some beach time in Cabo.
BeachyGirl
03-06-2007, 10:25 PM
I just read in another thread that the El Sid was a nice Hotel with a great pool. Sounds like it is worth checking into.
I think we will plan our own excursions rather than book with Disney. We'll see. Lots of time to plan!!

In the latest passporter newletter available on their website they mentioned they were selling the third edition for $6.00 and when they are gone they are gone and that they had the Mexican Riveria info in them. I thought oh wow I'd better order one, but when I reread it now it doesn't say that thy won't have an edition with Mexico in it in the future, I just interpreted it that way and jumped on the bandwagon. I'm looking forward to updated info as well.

Hello Everyone
Thought I'd give an update on my planning. I never seeem to stop planning! It is just as fun as the cruise itself, well almost!!
I purchased our travel insurance, not DCL. I purchased within two weeks of our deposit to get the preexisting condition waiver. My in laws are going and have minor health issues, so I felt is was good to do my best to get this covered.
Other than, reading these boards has been a large part of my "computer" time. That and ebay, you can never have enough cruise wear!!:goodvibes
My DD 12 is anxious about being in the teen group, as she will be 14 at cruise time. I hope Disney gets something together by then to accomodate the 14-15 year olds without the older teens.

Hopefully the 11 months will go by quickly. We are so excited! I wish we were going next week. Tonight I booked the Holiday Inn for the night before our cruise. Anybody else staying at a hotel the night before? We will have two, possibly three families staying the night before!

I'll be going to disneyland for a couple nights before the cruise, never been to CA or out west. I can't wait for this cruise and it seems so far away. I hope I get to meet some more people since it will be only my dad and I. I get along with all ages

We were in Cabo all last week and being there made me a little more excited for next year's Mexican Riviera cruise. :yay:
I don't know if it's an option as a Disney excursion, but our family swam with the dolphins in Cabo and it was an outstanding experience. The facility is fairly new and they provide an excellent program. The company is called Cabo Dolphins (creative, huh?) and is at the marina where the ship tenders to. We also rode ATV's with Cactus ATV company, which was highly recommended by the concierge at our hotel. The tour we took let us ride on a private beach. If anyone wants any additional information on these companies let me know and I'll see if I brought anything home from our trip (other than all my jewelery, souvenirs, dirty clothes, etc.).

Hi Everyone,
I hadn't logged in for a while. We are still very excited about this cruise. Our daughter will have just turned 13 and our son will be 11. I was thinking it would be fun to stay at the Queen Mary in Long Beach the night before the cruise. We only live an hour away from port, but I have always wanted to do that. I guess it is time to start thinking about what to do in the various ports too. I hope everyone with kids has had a smooth back to school experience and can you believe it the holiday season is just around the corner! It will be 2008 before we know it!! Have a great day!

haha, I don't have to pay for this cruise, my dad is taking me, but I'm taking him on a cruise in feb 2009, so I'l saving up for that one, boy am I crazy. Only 8 months, that's good to hear time will fly by for me, with all this work I have to do
Carole88, guess what, I got my DH to agree to this cruise. :woohoo: When we rebooked the last time I had them move the reservation to this date since this is when you said you were going. Then I just had to talk him into actually going. We are going to spend 2 weeks in CA. The first week we are going to visit Sea World, San Diego Zoo, and of course Disneyland (what would a Disney cruise be without a stop at a Disney park ;) ) I haven't really told the girls yet because I was waiting until he agreed to go for the 2 weeks. I am already excited and I still have 6 months to go   . For other cruisers I have a DD-13 and a DD-10. The DD-13 will be 14 at the time of the cruise. We met Carole88 along with many other families on our last cruise through these boards and we all had a great time. Our DD's hung out together the entire week and it really gave us parents some time to "hang out" :drinking1 . So I am hoping we can find some more fun families to "hang out" with again :thumbsup2 .

We will be traveling with 2 other families also, both with children of similar ages to mine. It is exciting to see so many other people so excited about their vacations. Hi! We are also cruising the Mexican Riveira this week! It will be:
me 37
DH 44
DS 15 (at time of cruise, also autistic)
DS 13 (at time of cruise)
DD 11 (at time of cruise)
This will be our 3rd Disney cruise. Looking forward to driving instead of flying-so much easier for packing! We're looking at doing the scuba dive excursions in Cabo & Puerta Vallarta, but not sure what we're doing in Mazatlaan. This will be my DS13's first time w/the teen group, so not sure what to expect there. There seems to be such an age difference between 13 & 17! My other son has always gone where my daughter goes, so we'll see if they let him this time. It's been so cold and rainy here in CA right now, so I am looking forward to the warmer weather! Only 6 more months! :)

Hadn't checked the site in a while and thought I would say Hi again. It looks like we will have a lot of teenager DD's on this trip. My DDs will be 14 and 10 by the time we set sail and I know my DD-14 is looking forward to hanging out in the Teen club. If your DDs would like to email before the cruise just send me an email and I will let you know her address.
I am really looking forward to this trip. My DDs have never been to CA before so this will be their first trip out West :flower3: I haven't even started thinking about excursions yet, I need to get on that ASAP!! I won't panic yet but yes my name is Susan and I am a planaholic. I love to plan and probably over plan if you ask my DH. So of course we are planning on spending 2 weeks in CA. The first week we will be visiting various places in CA to include Disneyland :woohoo: and the second week is the cruise. The easy part was planning the first week, the hard part is planning the excursions. They are giving us a huge selection on this cruise. I need my new Passporter!!!! Oh, well, I will just have to wait until the latest one comes out. I hope everyone is having a good week and I will check here more often now that we are getting a little closer.

So today we made our flight arrangements. We are going to Las Vegas first for 4 nites then driving to anaheim on the 8th. Any suggestions for hotel?
I have been reading the posts here and I am thinking it is not worth staying on property.
This is our first trip out to that area. We are hoping to stay in Anaheim and do some LA and San Diego
We have 5 kids( 4 teenage boys and 1 8 yr old girl)

Not sure if we can make it out to Vegas on this trip. Anthony has family in CA and he wants us to spend time visiting them. Also we are going to see Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Disneyland, California Adventure, and Universal Studios so I will have to see how our schedule is and if we have enough time to swing by Vegas  . OK, so maybe I am already over scheduling us and we haven't even started to think about the cruise part of the trip :scared1:.

Maybe next summer! You're always welcome.
I got the My Cruise Travel Kit from DCL the other day that had excursion information. The private villa on Cabo San Lucas is $2200. Not sure if families can share it or not. Pretty hefty hunk of change for a few hours! We'll have to pass on this one.

HI jencav and carole
Tips to share? Ummmmmmmmmm.....it is pretty humid down there! On the beaches there are a lot of locals trying to peddle thier wares. Gets a bit annoying.
There is a great jewelry store in Mazatlan, one of the Diamond International chain stores, where I purchased a beautiful diamond ring with a pave' setting. I found the same ring in Santa Barbara for about $300 more than what I paid. I also paid less than half the asking price at Diamond International by bargaining.
We only did one excursion and that was in Puarto Vallarta. We went to a resort that had a pool and was on the beach. I do not recommend that. I don't know if it was listed in the current excursions, I just recieved that info from Disney last week. I will try to share that info when I find it. We did not like it because several other cruise lines had the same excursion, so the pool was very crowded. The beach at the hotel was really rough and too dangerous to swim in.
In Cabo we went, on our own, to a resort that was beautiful. The DCL cruise director was there with his girlfriend, so I figured if he was there, it must be a nice place. :) I will also share the resort info on a later post. We have to be tendered into Cabo, it is the only port where that is necessary.
That is all I can think of at the moment. It was a great experience overall.
Have any of the teenage girls emailed each other yet? I know my older one would love to "meet" some girls prior to sailing.
That is all I can think of for now.

OK-I did some digging and found the name of the Cabo resort we found on our own. The DCL cruise director was there, so we felt like we found a gem.:)
Melia San Lucas is the name. The pool was beautiful with a swim up bar, white umbrellas and cabanas. It was right on the beach. In fact, that is how we found it. After we were tendered to the docks, we got a little water taxi to take us to the beach. We started off a little bar on the beach called Mango's. The chairs are in the sand about 10 feet from the waves. We ordered Corona's and chips and quacamole. Yum. The kids swam. We could see the ship in the bay from where we sat-beautiful. The peddlers got so annoying that we walked up the beach and found this resort. We took a regular taxi back to town to stroll a bit before getting back on the boat. Nice town, BTW.
I am still looking for the name of the excurion in PV that I do not recommend.
How is everyone's planning going?

I can't wait. We're driving up to Long Beach on July 12 (from San Diego), staying at the Doubletree which lets you park your car in their lot for the entire week (and provides a shuttle to the Cruise Center). Much cheaper than using the Cruise Center's parking.

We're arriving a couple of days early, renting a car, and staying at DL! :cool1: I've got our flight and hotel all set up, and now need to start working on a good rental car rate.
We still haven't even started researching excursions. However, DH has mentioned zip lines through trees, though! :scared1:

Hey BeachyGirl,
I have a DD that will be 14 on the cruise and another DD that is almost 11. We actually meet Carole and her family on our last cruise (one of the reasons we picked this cruise  ) and their DDs and our DDs got along great. They emailed each other before the cruise. If you want to send me your DDs email addresses I can give them to my DDs and they can email each other. It is a lot of fun to get the girls to make friends before the cruise is even here.

Hello Everyone,
I have been offline for awhile. It is great to see so many new folks!!
As a reminder, I am Rene' (43), with DH (45), DD (14) and DD (11). We will be sailing with my in-laws on this cruise. This is our second West Coast Disney Cruise.
I have been between planning our spring break in Washington DC and planning this cruise. I need to pre-order the new Passporter tonight! I hear you get the .pdf to download of the book when you pre-order! I'm in! I love to read all about the cruise.
I am very glad to be back on the boards!!

Hi there,
Maybe we could set up a distribution list for our young teen daughters? Mine is 13, and this is our second cruise. I know she would love to "meet" other girls (or boys) before she gets there.
I don't mind putting our email out here. : ) Its jdrichta at hotmail dot com. My daughter would love some friends before she gets there, so please feel free to ask you kids to email her.
Looking forward to a great time!
Jane
I have given your DDs email address to my DD so she should be contacting her soon. As a side note, if people want to give out email addresses you can always send the parent a private message with their DD or DS's email address through their Disboard account. That way we don't have to worry about posting them on the board.
Didn't someone setup a thread for the kids on this cruise? I saw it a while ago but haven't checked it since. I don't think anyone has posted on it yet so it could be lost at the end of the forum. But that is a good option for any of the kids who might want to chat before the cruise.

I got my reservations in!!! We are going to do the 4 x 4 Desert Safari in Cabo San Lucas, and the Canopy Adventure in Puerta Vallarta. I booked Palo for dinner for the third night and Palo for brunch for the 6th day. My DH and I are also going to do the Exotic Rasul after we get back from the Canopy Adventure. We are going to use Randi's Happy Horses in Mazatlan. My DD age 11 really wants to go horseback riding and I have heard really good things about Randi.
Sujo - If you would like to join us and 2 of our friends for our Palo reservations PM me your reservation number and I will see if I can add it to our reservation.

We're currently booked for late seating, but waitlisted for early. We'd rather have time (at the shows) to rest our stomachs before the kids hit the hay.
Does anyone know how to bypass the seating waitlist? We have a friend on the July 6 Riviera cruise who did just this. Maybe she had an influential TA or was a very squeaky wheel.

Hi everybody,
back again....
I cann't believe it is coming so quick. We are flying into Vegas on July 4th then coming into LA on the 8th and staying at the Residence Inn.
We will have to get a rental car and then I guess return it to the airport.
Any thoughts on how to get to the port from the airport then.
How far is the port from the airport?
I am thinking about dropping everyone at the port with the luggage then driving back and taking a cab? What do you think?
Our group has now expanded... so now we have Cathy (45), Kevin (DH 45)
DS 14, DS13, DD8, father in law, BFF-Dorothea(45), her DS 15, DS 13,
and our nanny- Eileen- she will kill me if I give her age let's just say 50+
We are all early seating.
Sounds like the teenager count is going to pretty high this cruise.
We have on the Magic more than 5 times- so my boys think of this as their other home.:woohoo:

Hi all, we live in SoCal and are all excited to be going on this cruise. My wife and I have only cruised once before on Carnival when we first got married 9 years ago and our kids have never cruised. We are 43 and 37 and our kids are 1, 3 and 6 years old. Staying in 2 connecting cat. 9 rooms and looking forward to it. Kinda pricey but for a family of 5 our options were rather limited and I think the category 4 family suite was our only other option but it cost 1/3 more than the 2 rooms we got. No one else knows yet about our summer vacation since I was waiting until Mother's Day to surprise them. So if you hear a loud yell on that Sunday, it might be from them! Anyway, thanks for reading and I look forward to reading any tips or advice from you seasoned cruisers.

We decided on our excursions tonight, so we'll be ready to book at midnight EST on 4-14-08. We are going to reserve the canopy adventure zip line in Puerto Vallarta, and the Salsa & Salsa in Mazatlan (this one sounds really fun). My kids are 18 and 13 years old, so they are excited to learn to salsa dance. We aren't going to schedule anything for Cabo since we've been there a bunch and have done quite a few of the offered options already. We will probably shop, eat lunch on the beach (the Office or Billigans), or just hang out on the beach.
We just paid off the trip this week, so it got me even more excited!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

We got our excursions picked out. In Cabo we are doing Cabo Beach Break, then in Mazatlán we are doing City Highlights & Mexican Mardi Gras Fiesta. And in Puerto Vallarta, we aren't going to do anything, nothing really stood out to us on that one.
You have to be 18 or older to go to Palo, right? just making sure

Thanks Carole! Yes, the cruise is a surprise for my wife as well as the kids. I've secretly been making payments for the past year. Only one more to go, yippee!
I forgot to mention in my earlier post that our 1 year old is a boy and the 3 and 6 year olds are girls. Anyone out there with kids of similar ages? What does the DS/DD/DH stand for in posts? Darling son/daughter/husband? Still learning the lingo, sorry.
Did anyone reply regarding the previous post on how to bypass the seating waitlist? We have late but I don't think that will be good with 3 youngsters.
And I heard that swimming with dolphins is possible in one of the port cities but wasn't sure. Is this true? If so, do you sign up in advance with Disney or is it better to do it with the excursion place themselves (if you even can)? Has anyone done this event and would recommend or suggest another?
Thanks again. Looking forward to the cruise and hopefully getting to know some of you in advance.

Welcome aboard, Great One! :goodvibes We went on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise last April with a DD6 (Darling Daughter, 6 yrs old) and DS4 (Darling Son, 4 years old). DCL is a great cruise line for kids this age. They hung out at the Oceaneer Club and Lab most every day. There are so many activities that our kids' didn't miss us at all. It's a little ironic that, with DCL being so geared to kids, it's also really geared for parents because they have so many chances to spend quality "alone time". We're really looking forward to our 2nd DCL cruise, I'm sure you'll have a great time. :thumbsup2

Wow, I had a scare last night. I was waiting to do my Palo reservations and when midnight came and our window opened the Disney site said we were not paid in full yet :scared1: . This was news to me since I paid it back on March 4. So I sent an email to my travel agent to find out what happened and they were able to straighten things out but boy that was a scare.
Carole, when I finally did get on the site for making Palo reservations I saw that we are with you on the dinner and brunch so everything is set. Good thing you added us to your reservation because I did not get through last night with this mix up.
My DH has been looking through the excursion list and we are going to narrow it down but he doesn't think our DD14 will do the canopy excursions so I think we have to stay away from those. It's just not worth the money if she ends up not doing it.
We have the early seating for those who are interested. I really like the early seating because I couldn't eat that much food and then go to bed. Talk about sea sick

We paid in full this past weekend and our 90 day prior to sailing date(Castaway Member) was Monday.
I was able to book our Palo dinner and brunch.:thumbsup2
Is this sound logic: I booked the dinner on Friday night during the late seating time 8:30PM that we would normally be eating and does not interfere with the show. I booked brunch on Monday, the first at sea day. That seemed like a good day because the cruise is just beginning and I have not stuffed myself for days! I may be able to enjoy the food more. :goodvibes
I heard back from Randi's happy horses that they have horses available and I also heard back from Frank (Mazatlan Frank) that he is booked for a private tour but one of his other employees is available. I must make some choices!!
Anyone know much about swimming with dolphins in PV?
I am trying to find my MIL's Castaway Club number so she can get the gift and so I can make some reservations early for her. DCL has been helpful with that so far.

We tentatively booked the Dolphin Encounter in Cabo. DH isn't too keen on the price, but I think we'll have a blast. We also are going snorkeling @ Banderas Bay in PV. we didn't book anything in Mazatlan.
I think we are taking the girls to the pool @ El Cid Hotel, and maybe rent waverunners. We are familiar w/Mazatlan, so we'll be happier on our own.
I also booked the Ocean Wrap/massage for Friday!!! Just for me!!!
Registered the girls in Oceaneer Lab, and got my paperwork filled out. believe it or not, I think this is one of the fun parts!
Has anyone ever been on the Dolphin Encounter? I want to be able to tell my husband it's worth the $$...
Well, I went ahead and booked the excursions through Disney that our family agreed to. I usually like to find something local that gets good reviews but haven't been able to find anything yet. We can't do horse back rides due to my DD who is allergic (same DD also doesn't like heights so can't do canopy excursions). So we have decided to try the beaches. Here is our current plans:
Cabo - Nikki Beach Escape
Mazatlan - Best of Mazatlan
Puerto Vallarta - Paradise Beach Adventure
I also booked a stone massage and pedicure for our first day at sea. I figured that will be a great way to start relaxing  .

I don't know anything personally about them... but I have read many good things about the dolphin excursions in Puerto Vallarta on these boards.

We spent a day at the El Cid last October, and had a blast. The pool is huge with different areas. There are wading pools, a swim-up bar, a rock waterfall that kids can jump from, areas for volleyball and basketball, plus amazing fruity cocktails. The staff are very attentive, and if you get the right server, it's Happy Hour all day :cool1: (2 drinks for the price of 1)!
Plenty of chaise lounges and tables with umbrellas, and you can pretty much spend all day at the pool. Plus, 50 yards away is the beach. It's clean and has a nice walk into the water, but a little rocky.
I've never been to the Hotel Playa...

Okay, I've been reading about Fish Extenders...
Sounds like fun, but I have no idea how to do it...:confused3
Do we buy our own FEs, or does some crafty soul on our cruise make them for each stateroom?
Does everyone sign up for a certain day to deliver their goodies, or do we just surprise our friends?
Do we set a dollar limit? Do we buy for each stateroom, or for each person?
Since we are not DCL rookies, I think it's time...:flower3: ...to give a little back.

Hey, great topic!
I have also read about these. It took me awhile to figure out what they were. The ones on eBay were not impressive when I was investigating. Maybe there are more available. I sew, but I'm not a perfectionist.
I have been picking up little gift items at our new Disney Character Warehouse at the Pismo Outlets, just down the road from us. Figured we could give them out on the cruise. But how? Fish extenders could be the answer. ;)

Hi all- we booked this cruise on our last cruise over spring break 2007. Traveling with my husband and our two daughters ages 12 and 14 from the Chicago area. This would be our sixth Disney Cruise if we decide to go. The 14 year olds best friend is traveling at the same time with some of her extended family. We are still undecided about the trip as we love the rest and relaxation that comes with the Disney Cruise, but are hesitant as the entertainment will be the same. We are thinking of extending our trip by a few days to take in some of the sights of LA area. We will probably stay on Disney property (we're vacation club members) but are not really sure if we are up to Magic Kingdom and California adventure as we were in Disneyworld for a week in November and over spring break week as well. Any thoughts? We thought we could go to Universal and do Hollywood. We need to decide by April 29! Has anyone done a Mexican Riviera cruise or visited these ports? We have only done 3 cruises on the Magic and 2 on the Wonder leaving from Port Canaveral. Yikes

Welcome to the thread. We also have a DD12 traveling with us. Looking forward to Mexico!
Have you been to CA before? DL is totally worth spending the extra time after the cruise. I highly recommend it especially if you haven't been before. Cal Adventure is fun, also. Not as much, but it has its charms, for sure.
We live 10 minutes from Disneyland Resort, so we have passes and go whenever we can.

I think it would be fun for all of the kids to communicate through the boards. Our kids did this a little for our last cruise. I think that we had some rules like no posting of last names. I'm sure my girls will participate if it gets started.
To reintroduce ourselves, we are Carole, John, Rachel (14) & Tessa (11). This is our 4th cruise. We are sailing with friends who have a DS18, DD16 and DD12. This will be their first cruise. We are all from Las Vegas and are taking a mini trip to Disneyland over Memorial Day weekend. We're taking advantage of the Hojo special $59 a night. (Can't beat that!)
We are also very excited that Sujo and her family will be on this cruise. We had a great time with them in June 2006 and can't wait to see them again. Hey Susan, glad the Palo reservations worked out!
We have Palo booked for dinner and brunch. Also have booked the Exotic Rasul for Thursday after we get back from out excursion. Hopefully the timing will work out for this. We are taking the 4x4 Desert Safari in Cabo and the Canopy Adventure in Puerto Vallarta. We want to do the horseback riding with Randi's Happy Horses but haven't heard back from her yet. I'll have to email her again.
We are up for fish extenders if everyone else is. We've never done it before but it sounds like fun!
Gotta go now. Will be back soon!

Hello West Coast Cruisers! I am getting so excited about our trip and beginning to think about things that need to be done. I am going to be traveling in a group of 11 and I want to do t-shirts for all of us. Last time I did the West Coast cruise, the other DISers had an official t-shirt and it was really fun to help spot the folks from the boards. A design was uploaded to CafeExpress and we were all able to order (or not order) t-shirts for ourselves and our families.
Here is my dilemma: I am not a talented designer. Is someone else? I know there is a whole design thread, but most of those look so fussy and I am also concerned about licensing issues using the characters on the shirts. Anyone interested in shirts? Otherwise, I will figure out something for my group of 11 and you'll see us in them on the first day.
Best,

on my last cruise we did a easy way of making shirts, made a name for the group and put the name on the shirt simple as that
I also think shirts are a great idea but I am not a very good designer either. On our last cruise I just picked up one of the Dis green mickey ears paint samples from Home Depot and pinned it to my shirt figuring people would recognize the Dis green Mickey Ears. Also someone from our group had these same green mickey ears made into magnets with our Dis'er names and the date of our cruise. We put them on our doors so that people could find us and know that we were from the Dis boards. Maybe we could do something similar but make the mickey ears into pins if we can't come up with a design for shirts. But I am all up for doing fun shirts.
Also, I got my fish extender in the mail yesterday so if people are up for this I am in :cool1: .

Hi Rene'!
I think that a lot of people don't realize that excursion experiences can be completely different depending on when you go, your family make-up, and who is leading the excursion. In other words, people who went on May 7th will definitely NOT have the exact same experience as people who go on the same excursion on May 14th! Another way to look at it is a family with 2 adults and 2 toddlers is going to have a completely different experience than a family with a single parent and 2 teenagers. Lots of factors can influence how an excursion goes. So, please don't let those flamers upset you. I appreciate hearing about everyone's experiences so I can make a good decision for my own family. :goodvibes

Randi's Happy Horses is in Mazatlan not PV. We are going to ride with her. why not do the zip line in PV?
Where did you get your fish extender?
I ordered my from ebay at this ladies site http://stores.ebay.com/GraceSkies-Gift-World. She has a couple of different kinds, I got the Mickey and Minnie one. She calls them wall door hanging rather than fish extender. Since I don't sew I figured it was easier to buy one than make one.

Sorry can't help you there I'm not a talented designer I like the idea of shirts though to spot other DISers.
Hi Everyone! :wave2:
On our last trip on the Magic, all of us DISers decided to wear lime green colored t-shirts of our choice. Some opted to put a design on their shirts, others didn't. We didn't have designs on ours, but it was so easy to spot fellow DISers! It was so neat to see all of us congregate in one corner of the cruise terminal!
BTW...I bought my DD and DS's lime-green t-shirts at our local Michael's Arts and Crafts store. They have them in both adult and children's sizes and they were of good quality and not expensive at all. One way to personalize the shirt is to use an Iron-on T-Shirt Transfer. in the cruise in 2006 on the magic I know some people wore leis so everyone could be spoted and we picked a time the first day and a place for everyone to meet each other I like the t-shirt idea, but I think leis could also work maybe find some lime green ones or a color and everyone who wants to gets them

Thanks , I am going to ebay and see about ordering one!!!

I believe you can stay on the ship between back-to-back cruises, no need to unpack.

We get to stay in the same room!!!! No Packing! YAY!
Usually we have to walk down though customs (after everyone is just about off the ship) and then about an hour later we can go back on board. Pretty easy. Some people say you do not have to get off the ship but when we did it last time we did.
:cake: My birthday is on the 16th of July so I get to celebrate my birthday on board!!! YAY!!!!
:earsboy: Is there any one else doing a B2B???

Hi Rene,
Randi's Happy Horses is in Mazatlan not PV. We are going to ride with her. why not do the zip line in PV?
Hi Carole
Opps. Can't keep my ports straight!! Thanks for the correction.
I have a tour of Mazatlan planned, so happy horses are out for us.
The dolphin swim is booked for us in PV. If my daughter still wants to do that, we'll keep the reservation.
Did you all see the Magic come thru the Panama Canal this morning? I happened to be on-line and saw it. Very cool!!
Rene'
