Hey guys! Just thought I'd share my story with you. So, I'm in my high school production of Grease. Our high school has quite the reputation when it comes to our shows. The talent, the sets, the costumes...all close to perfect. Our director, Ann, was in Grease on Broadway, so she knows what's up.
Anyhoo, our show's in March, and we all came to our daily rehearsal, which was to last from 3 to 6:30 pm. Our cast as a HUGE problem with talking, though. I do theater outside of school, so I know: You Can Not Talk. If you want a good show, at least. So to make a long story short, Ann said that if we didn't shut up, she'd leave. That just went over our heads. Suddenly, she grabbed her coat and scarf, and stormed out the door. Our music director followed behind. After a long silence, the principal came, and told us all to go home!
So from what I hear, one of the student directors had to drive her home, because she left her keys inside (come on, who would really want to go back in there after that?). Rumor has it she had a bit of a breakdown in the car, crying and all. I feel bad. I wasn't the one talking, certainly not. But can you imagine? And people say she might not come back. Ever. My next rehearsal is on Monday, and I have no idea if she'll come or not.
So enough about me. Have you ever had an experience like this? Where the adult totally cracked under pressure? :confused3

Well, no not at drama.
You'll probably have a good production, my brother's school did it last year and it was horrendous (they screwed the story up.)
the other day in class though some kids were playing cards in the middle of math class with a sub.

Now I also am in Drama at my school, My director also had been in so many productions everywhere and is fabulous. Now she ahs been teaching and directoring at my school for awhile now(shes only like 40 something) and We also have the reputation of being perfect, which Not to be cocky or rude, but we pretty much are on our performance nights. Now she has literally left the room before when she gets so aggravated, she will leave for about 30 mins then come abck and keep everyone 30mins later. Granted this only happens like once every few years, but I have heard the stories, it happened last year. She never has had a break down though. She would also never quit, she loves us all to much personally.
Otherwise, no I have nbever seen an adult crack under pressure, I hope everything works out for your production. I love Grease! our school is doing the Wiz, its wayyy too much fun!
(J/w, yes off topic, but what are you in the play?)

Thanks for the good wishes and all! I'm just an ensemble member though. I'm a freshman, so I didn't expect too much. She only gave two freshman girls lead roles: Jan and Patty. And our school did The Wiz last year (obviously I wasn't in it)! But anyway, I hope everything turns out okay with Ann. There must be something going on in her personal life too, because she's never hinted to us that she doesn't like working here.

well i cant really think of a time right now when an adult broke down but i just want to say how lucky you are that you are perfroming Grease, our school is performing the man of la mancha and i am so bumbed, last year we performed guys and dolls and it was so much fun but b/c of the male domininace of this play and because of well the "boringness" it is totally going to be so stupid = / lol
well sorry bout the off topic but yah i feel bad for your director but ont worry cause most of them time when somthing like this happens the kids who were causing the trouble never feel guilty but the ones who didnt do anything always do (kinda ironic) lol but hope the rest of you rehersals and the play goes great

Eh, our director at the local community theatre threatens to leave somtimes. It wouldn't suprise me if he did. But when he says something like that you know he's serious, and people normally shut up.

There is a reason she is a person in drama. She's dramatic. If she doesn't get over it and continue on with the show then she is an EXTREMELY immature and irresponsible adult.
Good luck...er...break a leg with this one....

I've been her.
You seem to know whats going on, talk to you cast and tell them to shut up. Beg and plead with Ann to get her to just come one more time. Your cast is probably scared to death that she's not coming back, so they'll do whatever it takes. Ann will appreciate it.

no, i havent. i cant imagine that. the teacher was smart, though. she did as she said she would, so on monday (if she comes, and im pretty sure she will from the way you phrased the story) when she says something, you (the people in the play) will probably listen, especially if she says she'll leave.
