What do you do with your winter coats when you are flying from the great white north to the sunshine state? With 3 kids I'm not looking forward to keeping track of luggage and winter coats!! Any tips?

We don't wear our winter coats. I find that by dressing in several layers, we are fine and can pack away sweaters and light jackets as necessary. If you drive yourself to the airport, leave your winter coats in the car and you will have them for your trip home from the airport.

Like PoohBWV we also dress in layers. We wear light polar fleece jackets over a T-shirt plus sweatshirt. The polar fleece is so lightweight and much less bulky than our winter coats and you would need to pack sweatshirts in any case. If Florida is unseasonably cold (it was very cold last year over Thanksgiving & Christmas) you can layer polar fleece under a waterproof/windproof poncho or jacket and stay warm and dry. If it's hot we make sure we have an extra empty bag with us and we stow the jackets/sweatshirts in it as soon as we hit the Orlando airport. On the way home, that becomes our souvenir bag.

Remember how cold it was last April? dh wore a wind breaker, dd wore a medium weight sweater, I wore a jean jacket. The only one who wore a winter coat was the baby. We were very comfy. The limo arrived heated and drove us to the airport which was also heated. We never made it to cold air at all! On the flight home, the pilot announced it was 9ºC ~ YIKES! It was always 27-29ºC and sunny the whole Florida trip! We were comfy returning home. We all wore jeans on the plane.

For us this Dec we wore long pants in the car when we set out with a sweatshirt or a Far West pull over jacket not lined and then changed when we hit Georgia and we never needed any of our cold weather clothes the whole trip. It was warmer than usual this Dec we had temps in the mid to high 80's just about every day and in the 70's every night so we never wore anything but shorts and t shirts. but we had our pants and sweaters for the trip home and it didn't take up any extra space in the suit case.
