Just wanted to know if anyone has driven from the Dallas area lately. If you could recomend a good route to drive. I realy appreciate any input. I want the quickest way, I have problems driving in the dark, although there will be two others with me that can help with the driving.

Thanks!!!

We used to drive from the Dallas area. We took 20 to Shreveport, I-49 down to I-10, and then we went south on whatever one goes to WDW. I think it's I-77. I think it took around 20 hours. We usually stopped, sometimes once and sometimes twice.

We are leaving the 20th from Norhteast Texas and plan to stop round the alabama border and spend the night . Did you drive straight through or stop?
We are looking forward to our trip but not sure about the drive. We never planned on flying and usually enjoying driving.

We drive it from North Texas all the time. We go to Mississippi and cut down from there to Mobile. We almost always get as far as Pensacola FL the first day. Although it is not impossible to drive the whole thing in 1 day. Tallahassee is also very reachable the first day if you leave earlier enough in the day. I found that I get as far as I can the first day so that the second day is not that long and you get to the World in time to relax a little before you start your adventures the next day.

If you would like the route that Britt and I drive (I like it because there is so little traffic on the cut down road) I would be happy to send you the info..

We live in Shreveport and have usually taken I-49 to I-10. But the last couple of times, we took I-20 to Jackson, MS and then picked up US49 to Hattiesburg. Then head to Mobile on 98. Pick up I-65 to I-10 (only a few miles) to cut off the drive through town. Just across Mobile Bay is the nicest Comfort Suites you have ever seen. Real nice folks there. Also a Hampton Inn right across the street. It takes us about 14 hours for the entire trip from Shreveport, so add in about 3 hours from Dallas and you should be able to make it in 17 hours. Last month, we drove straight down from Shreveport - left about 12:30AM and arrived at the AKL about 3:30 PM. Hit Mobile about 7AM - a Friday morning and traffic wasn't bad. We plan to do this again in March, only I'm getting some sleep before we leave!

Don't know about north Texas, but I'd stay off I-10 as long as I could since you have the option...Greg

gtaylor - any particular reason to avoid I10?

At least last Spring it was a mess - construction, very bumpy in places (construction obviously badly needed), delays, etc etc. Seems as if most of the problems were in LA tho....Greg

We were on I-10 this summer. While I agree that it isn't usually a very good highway, we started in San Antonio and had no problems after Baton Rouge, which is where you get on if you take I-20 to I-49. It's a little more populated than I-20, so it makes it feel like you're getting there faster.
