Alright, we just got back from the NYE Magic and want to go on the 12/27/08...see my notes below.

I finally had some time yesterday to think about forkin over my hard earned bucks into Mickey's back pocket for the 12/27/08 cruise...and egads, my SPH rooms are gone! Boo-hoo...(when we booked for this cruise before, we booked 20 months out and got the rooms, I know...should have gotten up early on the 31st).

I digress - here's the pricing I received in case anyone is interested. We find Costco Travel to have the best prices - about 10% less than Disney plus a Costco Gift Card. (noted in parenthesis is the amount of the Costco Gift Card)

Here's my question - anyone ever book a Cat 10 Gty on a full-capacity cruise and actually got an upgrade? (we need two connecting rooms) We've never stayed below Deck 5 - what about 2 Cat 10's on deck 2 or would you prefer 2 Cat 11's on a higher floor?

1 Adult/1 Child (age 9)

11: $3,162 ($275)
10: $3,272 ($275)
09: $3,645 ($275)
08: $3,944 ($350)

1 Adult/2 Children (ages 4 and 6)

11: $4,408 ($350)
10: $4,518 ($350)
09: $4,954 ($425)
08: $5,390 ($425)

2 Adult/2 Children (ages 5 and 10)

11: $5,569 ($500)
10: $5,779 ($500)
09: $6,315 ($500)
08: $6,851 ($575)

Hi,

we also used Costco, twice, and got great deals, too.

I wish I could answer your questions, but I have no experience with Gtys or staying below deck 5. If I were booking, having no experience with 10s or 11s, I'd still go with two cat 11s on the higher floor. This is just from reading these boards.

Please post what you decide to do, and good luck!

Count us in !! New Years will be new for us. In the past we cruised in June or early July. We are excited about this cruise! We go with 3 other families and we have 4 rooms in a row. I'm checking out the cruise reports from this past New Years. They had a great time!

I'm insanely jealous of all of you...we could not get two connecting rooms in the category that we wanted for the NYE cruise (who knew that EVERYONE wanted to book on the 31st). You will all have a wonderful time - we LOVED the NYE cruise, very festive, very fun - read my TR and you'll get the picture.

I just booked the Double Dip Thanksgiving Cruise (11/22/08) - 2 connecting rooms popped up this morning, so I forked it all over to the four fingered mouse.

If any of you have specific questions about NYE, drop me a line. Have fun...now I have to go find the 11/22/08 thread and wreak some havoc on that board.

Well, I just booked.

Not sure if we'll actually make it, but we're booked. I'm a little hesitant because our daughter will be 2 years old. We are being coerced into this cruise by TWWRN (those who will remain nameless) :dancer:

If anyone's cruised with a 2-year old, feel free to offer advice :teeth:

It will be me 36, DW 36, DD 5 months. We've been on 2 previous Disney Cruises. We booked the same cat 9 cabin we had on our last cruise (Christmas 2005).

Also, I like the Western ports better than the Eastern ones.

It meant that I BADGERed our dear friend Grim into booking :lmao:

Ya right,,,,, it was all my doing....he did not have the pull himself.....

I want to badger tigg too as I fear the rooms will not be plum picking the longer one waits to book, but she alas tells me she is replentishing her pockets prior to booking...(fair enough)

Thanks Grim!!!! And are you kidding about what to do with the Piper gal. First off, we being the closest in age range of our kids to you and well beyond having them ourselve again that young, will take her off your hands when ever you need a break. We sooooooo know what it's like to not have that break. I think when we visit in May and you see that lots a hands want that girl you'll be happy as a clam crusing with us all when she's 2. Oh my gosh, that means we can get her princess cothes for that cruise!!!!! Oh my mind just went into over drive. See I'm not much for baby clothes, but LITTLE GIRL clothes that's another story. And Miss Molly will be the ripe old age of 12 by then, you know that's the offical age of the babysitter in my family (which means she does the heavey lifting of keeping Piper smiling and laughing all the time and mom & dad are in the back ground watching out just in case we're needed)

Must get into the night of COOOKIES!!!! Paul is off picking up the 1896 boxes of cookies for our troop. Not to worry only 586 of them are Molly's (so far)....

N

p.s. Hi Noel, Are booked here too???? I saw you had 2007 NYE on your list, but 2 in a row, ahhhhh what a life :goodvibes

I am not waiting til after Cali, I was waiting til after I got my airfare for Cali...I actually put in for a quote to see what the price is if I booked the six of us under one reservation and telling them you are retired military.

sounds good to me. See if being in the castaway club gets us a discount. I don't think retired military cuts any mustard.

FYI...

ALSO, was told by CM that NEW CC Cards are in the process of being mailed....she could not tell me when they started or when they planned on ending, but that she was an initial sailer on the Magic with a C starting her last name and she didn't have her card yet.

What do you want to know? They had a wonderful NYE celebration in the Atrium with champagne toast at midnight, big screen TV showing the countdown, balloon drop and beautiful. When we got back to our rooms that evening they also had some "special" chocolate left, not the usual - it was a beautiful depiction of the Disney ship in white/milk chocolate, too pretty to eat, but to fragile to keep, so we ate it!! Then we also received a special limited edition print of the disney characters celebrating and I think it says Happy New Year. They also switched around "formal" night so that it was on NYE, made the whole evening very enjoyable. Other than than evening, I think the trip was pretty close to what you will get on any other 7 nighter. Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

Actually they did not have the jumbotron when we did our first, but they did bring in one for this event. I can't wait to hear the improvements they will do to the Magic when it goes inot drydock in Sept. 08. Seems like we keep missing all the "new stuff", this time I know we won't:banana:

OK, first of all my name is Jill.
On my first cruise the big screen wasn't there. (It was the 7 turned 10 day((Hurricane)) Western). But we really enjoyed it. Especially when it's almost like simulcast on a night like pirates night.
I forgot it was going to drydock. You're right, they will probably make good changes.:woohoo:

As we were getting off of the Magic after our Christmas Cruise, the crew was setting up for NYE in the atrium. It was beautiful. It was so depressing thinking of all the fun the new kids were going to have that day (week). Nice to know we get to be apart of it (if not a little late...).

Hi Robin
In Grand Caymen we did the Stingray sail & snorkel, In Cozumel we did the archealological park. & kayaked in Castaway Cay.Because of the hurricane we didn't do Key West. We hit Costa Maya and Galveston instead. We had to get off in Miami but that was cool cause we docked right next to the Wonder.
One of the main differences I liked was the choice of stores & lack of all of those diamonds stores. The towns are a bit bigger.
Last cruise I scheduled to parasail but the weather was bad. I would really like to do that.
We met some really great people on the last cruise. The way it stands now it's going to be like a reunion because they are going again. And this time Aisling & my daughter are bringing their husbands & my daughter is also bringing My Grandson & his Girlfriend. & Grim is bringing his new baby. I think there were 14 of us & we grouped together & all sat at the same table. I think we will need two tables this time. We were like family. We have been commuincating since then. (Christmas Cruisin 2005).

Tig and Jill, did you get 2 verandah rooms? Do you mind if I ask about your sleeping arrangements? The reason I'm asking is because I have a cat. 6 on deck 6, and a cat 11 right across the hall. There's no way I can afford 2 cat. 6s on deck 6. Can you give me some advice about deck 7?

Edited: I retract the sleeping arrangements question. I just spoke to Chad, and he and Louise will be getting their own room. I originally planned on the cat. 11 being a "girls room", but it was a very unpopular plan. So we're settled !

Just so you know...

My Mom and son and his girlfriend are sharing and my husband, daughter and I are sharing.

My quote came in for two adjoining rooms on 7 with navigator verandahs but Mom knows about some deck 7 rooms with open verandahs. I am awaiting a reply from Dreams Unlimited to see if the "special" rooms are available.

Hey Robin:

I'm another one of those Xmas 2005 cruisers and I have a DD who will be 12 on NYE 2008 cruise. I hope our girls can chat before the trip and maybe get to know each other. It's gotta be hard to be a kid on these cruises and have to make friends so quick. What am I saying, it can't be hard being a kid and going on a cruise.....:lmao:

We also have a DS who will be almost 8 at time of cruise.

Looking forward people plans are in place now.....only time until we meet again. Didn't that sound melodramatic.

Do we picture Mel, Mr. Tigg (I can't remember his name...is it John too?) & Paul wandering off and leaving us girls to our own devices???? Oh my we could get into some serious trouble. Oh yeah, Jill & Molly will keep us in line. and John & Dede & little piper can laugh at our adventures.....or misadventures.....can you say fancy hair for New Year's Eve???? Thank heavens I have that $40 clip, I better find it to bring, huh.:lmao:

tiggerwannabe
02-14-2007, 01:15 PM
I still have my $40 hair clip!

Sits right in the top of my jewelry box...:teeth:

I'm thinking Mel, John and Paul and even Grim (Dede's John) will have a ball together...

Us ladies can handle Piper together~she can shop and go to shows and shop some more with us right?

Brittany will most likely be hanging with Chad, Louise, Cate and Adrian & Jesse...Brittany'll be 19.5 at the time of cruising. Too old for the Stack but old enough to get into a couple of the clubs.
------------------
Here's the reunion crew list~

Aisling, Mel, Chad, Louise, Jesse
Me (Colleen), John, Jill (Mom), Adrian, Cate & Brittany
Nan, Paul, Molly & Wilson
Grim (John), Dede & Piper

and that's just our crew...

new to us so far...

happyfeet - Sue & Max
luvcruising - Mom, Dad, Jason, Melanie & Chandler
ohioworkingmom - Robin & two DDs

Who all are going with you and what are your names?

---------------------

Judging by the ages of some of your teens Jesse is going to have lotsa company in the stack~

I have 2 events to enjoy first, and then I can focus obsessively on this cruise: Chad's and Lou's WDW trip next month (I'm not going, but I'm still feeling the excitement), and then the Disneyland trip in May. Oh wait, something else, the Dis meet (MagicMeets) in July.

And then it'll be almost Christmas, then New Year's, and then the one year countdown!

Some of you know I have a very close friend, my best friend, Fr. Casey, who is a priest suffering with Parkinson's disease and diabetes. Please send some good thoughts his way, he's doing ok, but sometimes I worry a lot about him. I guess I'm really asking for good thoughts sent my way, that I won't worry about him so much. As I plan this cruise, 2 years out, I have a touch of anxiety about how his health will be 2 years from now. I would never be able to go cruise and be having fun if anything happens to Casey. Sorry to get so serious, especially sorry to our new cruise friends, but I just felt like sharing. Thanks for listening, I feel better now.

And now for your viewing pleasure, a dancing banana!

It is always good to be serious & a little down. Then you have a new high to strive for. We are here for you.

Can't we start our countdown now?

Fr Casey always has my prayers with him

Well, we are one step closer to being official...

We got one of the cabins Mom wanted so it looks like we'll be in 7620 and 7622 as of tomorrow~:woohoo:

I have fortunately got DL in May and WDW in December but then I'll be on a Disney Fast so I can get the cruise paid off in October 2008...

Nan and I are over on my pre-trip thread hammering out the details of Brittany and my arrival on the 24th of May in San Jose~

and, of course, I'll be at the Disney Fans Gathering July at Camp Hill!

and yes Mom, you can startyour countdown for July, want me to make you a ticker? Just tell me what colors front and back...

Hi,

We are joining you on the NYE cruise. This will be our 4th NYE cruise. We sailed in 02-03, 03-04 and 06-07. For the first time we will be having another family join us. I am looking forward to sharing all the wonderful things about the cruise with them. We are on deck 7 this time too. It sure seems like a long way off but half the fun is in the planning.

Our crew
Myself - Ami
DH Dave
DD who will be 8 when we cruise ( I can't believe how old my kids will be by the next tiem we sail)
Ds will be 5

Our Friends
Cindi and Tim
Their DS 8 and DD 6

It looks like this will be a little bigger DIs group. In the past it seems like the Dissers aren't as active on the NYE sailings

Hi Ami, welcome to the Really Excited Cruisers New Year's Eve thread!
It's going to be fun to have you all these next two years to share the planning and excitement with.

Jill, Tig, and Robin, thank you sincerely for the prayers. I can't say anymore about it right now, or else I'll get all emotional! :grouphug:

Tiggie, is the July Meet called Magic Meets? I think I made a mistake calling it that in my last post.

Did you get the deck 7 obstructed verandah troom hat's basically a "cat. 6 for a cat. 7 price"? If so, congratulations! Those are as hard to get as the secret porthole rooms!

Ami, how are you handling all the snow? My mother lives in Rome, NY, and she says it's pretty bad.

Thanks Nan.:goodvibes

To all the NYE 2008 cruisers/lurkers: 4 families posting here all know eachother from meeting on our last cruise, the Christmas 2005, so there is a lot of familiar chit chat going on. But PLEASE don't feel left out of the loop, post and let's become friends. We're all in the same boat :lmao: afterall! There's no obligation for us to be stuck together like glue on the cruise if you don't want to (Nan, would you please let go of my leg!!), but we all have the freedom/option to get together as much or as little as we feel.

I just don't want you to feel like "OMG if I start posting, these people will never leave me alone on the cruise!"

As far as countdowns, we have:
Disneyland in May
WDW at BCV this Christmas with the inlaws
WDW at AKV Spring or Summer 2008 (possibly with my parents)
DCL on NYE 2008/2009

That's about 1 trip every 6 months, so the wait shouldn't be too bad...

Anyone a certified scuba diver? I'm thinking about getting certified for this cruise.

I hear you can get certified at your local Y~

I may even let the hairdresser do my hair this time instead of just having them fix what I do to it ;)

My son's girlfriend (Cate) or Chad's girlfriend Louise will probably want to do Molly's hair for her this time. I have a feeling Molly is going to cling to those two like she did my Mom the last cruise princess:

For 6 of us under Disney on deck 7 it was $15000-
for the same, thru DU, with Mom's military discount it was $14000.

nskjerven

i'd need to make a spreadsheet to tell....seems hard to really know. I was reading all the posts about west repo prices and seems that mine is a higher than first out, but what really kills me is that the same cruise as ours different week runs just less than 6K cheaper than the holiday rate. oh well, with the kids in school I'm really stuck unless we bail on school and that's not a great habit to get into imho.

is how looooooooooooooong they have to wait for it to get here ;)

tiggerwannabe
02-16-2007, 05:32 PM
Oh yeah...and Brittany is kinda disappointed that she's too old to go to the Stack.

For those of you coming and wondering about the teen club, it's Fa-Bu-Lous! My daughter spent MOST of our cruise in the Stack and absolutely LOVED the counselors that work there.

ohioworkingmom
02-16-2007, 05:38 PM
I am hoping mine will. The past 2 times we have gone, neither of them spent any time at the clubs. Both will be able to go to the Stack in 08, so hoping they find it enjoyable.

02-16-2007, 05:49 PM
I think Aisling's Jesse liked it as much as my Brittany did...

my DD's best friend didn't care for it, but that worked out well for me cause she and I went to the stage shows and a movie together and hung out by the pool together while Brittany was at the Stack.

ok Tigg, that cracked me up...you bring Step along for Brit and you hog her the whole time :lmao: I have lately been thinking about your 3 girls as what they were like as littel ones like ours and I can totally see me in 10 years watching shows and hanging by the pool with one of my other ones. It is really great that you and Step have so much fun together too.....Now perhaps I should try to weasel the other two families of our little group to join us on this NYE trip....that would blow the girls away....

tiggerwannabe
02-16-2007, 09:11 PM
Actually, I think I spent as much timewith Stefanie as Brittany did :)

Doesn't Molly and Wilson have friends that are siblings?

That's how Rose and I wound up together in the first place. Our boys are the same age, we met when the boys were five and the girls were still the little sisters running around the sidelines at the boy's soccer games...then we became Girl Scout leaders together and soccer and softall coaches together...

I have known and spent time with Stefanie n her brother Dan almost as long as they've been alive. I am glad Brittany's friends are as comfortable with me as they are with each other, she's good company~

You are absolutely right, you and Molly's friends will be just as close, that's a REALLY good thing~

RE: Different quotes

All this talk of cheaper quotes got me curious, as I thought Disney put a stop to travel agents discounting fares. I got 3 quotes each from Disney, DU, and Costco. All had identical prices. The only difference was in the 'credits'. Disney has none, DU has $100 - $300 shipboard credit, and Costco has $250 - $500 gift card (as previously mentioned).

I originally booked with DU. Hmmmm - what would be better - $100 worth of rum runners, or $250 worth of black olives :confused3

That $500 gift card makes the verandah look not so outrageous...

Tigg, the girls(& mamas) met at 6 months thru las madres, grassroots mothers group, they form every year word of mouth here in San Jose, and I assume there is a larger organization, but we decided that we liked ourselves enough to break free after one year and just stayed in our own little world...then we all had the boys one after another, sept, nov and mine in feb. it's the best friendship. molly is with the girls tonight for a sleepover. the cute thing about the girls is there is a redhead, blonde and brunette....the boys the same (wilson not as red as miss molly of course)

Hey Grim...are you guys getting a verandah this time?

What level did you book?

and YES!I absolutely think it's worth $500-is that onboard credit?

I only think ours was a hair cheaper because of a discount Nan said Disney does for retired military anyway, they do not put that discount online, they only give it if you call them and ask for it. I'm content with the $200 per cabin.

Thanx for the passpot info. I think I will get everyone their passports anyway, heaven forbid if any of us had to leave and couldn't because we didn't.

That's so cool about you and your friends Nan...

You should ABSOLUTELY try to convince one or both of them to sail with us! Molly and Wilson would appreciate that. Even tho Britt and Stef didn't spend the whole cruise together, they were both very grateful to have each other onboard.

Have a Great Time for us at DL Nan, I know you'll be calling me from traffic right?

I was at the bookstore looking at DCL guidebooks, and honestly I couldn't see spending the money when I can get more info right here. So I'm making my own Microsoft Works file with all the important info I need/want. I really love the planning part. I thought I'd want to see the Tulum ruins, but after reading about how long the bus ride is to get there, how very hot it is there, that people are no longer allowed to climb the steps of the pyramid, etc, I think I'll be looking into some other excursion while in Mexico.

I should still have my Passporter Cruise Guide book...

I can send it to you when I find it~

It's an older one but most of the information will be worth reading.

The Passporter people will be at the Magicmeet and sell their books at a discount if you want to put some cash aside for that, it's the best price you'll get for their guidebooks.

Another option, I'll see how much of a discount my Barnes & Noble membership card would get for one of those. I prefer Birnbaums for the overview and passporter for the details and reviews of the details. The Passporter was invaluable when reading comments from people who have gone on the excursions.

...and regarding Mel telling you to grow up...

I would tell him he's grown up enough for both of you ;)

Birnbaums 2007 Cruise Guide for $11.29 and The Passporter Cruise Guide for $15.34...Is that much better than what you found it for?

Hi everybody

We did the Xcaret ecological tour rather than the Tulim ruins.

When we went to Costa Maya (added because of the hurricane). We saw some ruins. On that tour we were allowed to go on them & the bus ride was interesting. When we came back the shopping was fun.

Hi Jill

I was reading trip reports and looking at photos, and I notice that there was a mariachi band in the atrium during embarkation. Is this what they do for western cruises? I remember the calypso-style bands on the eastern.

Hi Aisling

I don't recall a mariachi band in the Atrium on embarkation.

It was pretty much like our trip. Except, on the Western we flew in so late by the time we got to check in darn near everybody was already on board.

For the sail away party we had the Charles Marshall Band.

Maybe Ohio Working Mom can tell us what was on her NYE cruise. I don't know if she had Eastern Or Western.

Wednesday - Cozumel - Got off the ship in the morning and were undecided between Chankanab and La Cieba Hotel, so DH asked opinion of Taxi driver who suggested Mr. Sanchos Beach........so we took his advice and LOVED IT. Great atmosphere, good food, nice beach with sand (no rocks), live music, pool, watersports and it was free admission. Got back to ship about 4:30 and got ready for dinner. Arrived in lobby early to hear the mariachi band - they were great!! After dinner we played Bingo and then stayed for the game "So you think you know your TV songs". After that we headed to Deck 9 for the Deck party. That was fun. They also had the dessert buffet outside and also a taco bar with all the trimmings. Could not eat though, I was always stuffed after dinner!!!

Cast: Myself (Bruce-43), DW(Sandy-39), DD(Amanda-11), and DD(Jennifer-8).

That night was “Mexicalifragilisticexpialidocious” night, and we love to see the Mariachi Band. Even though the attire for this night is Causal – Tropical, I always were the most expensive shirt I own, an off-white with a palm tree print Tommy Bahama shirt. I love this shirt, but even living in Florida I have rare occasion to wear a $120 casual shirt that’s dry clean only. During the festivities at dinner (conga line, limbo) one of the servers walked the entire length of the restaurant on his hands, he had on a cap which made him look bald except for long white hair out the sides, and the old eyeglasses and large nose mask. After he walked on his hands he came over to our table and it was our “Straight-laced” efficient server Plamen. It was great to see him smile and having a good time, he had been working so hard to make everything right all week. We later learned from one of our former servers (Wes) that Plamen had been his assistant until recently when he was promoted to server. I thought Plamen was doing a good job, and as I said he was very efficient and polite, he just didn’t seem quite comfortable in his new role well enough to have that out going friendliness servers usually have. Or maybe he was just trying to be as formal as possible. Either way, he took good care of us, and our assistant server (Gabor) was very open, friendly, and full of cheer. They made an “Excellent” team.

I was thinking on pirates night there was a short period of time when a mariachi band played. In 2005 this was posted -
This is my first trip report here on the boards. It was my first ever cruise, and I had a GREAT time!

Wednesday, April 13th 2005

Back on the ship we showered and ordered room service lunch, then instead of having a live show that night, they just turned it into a movie theater and we saw “The Pacifier.” It was ok, but most of the funny parts were in the coming attractions. I hate that. Back at the room we got ready for dinner and when we got to our table, Gerry put Pirate bandanas on us and there was a Mariachi band and our menus were rolled up like treasure maps. After dinner everyone went up on the top deck for the “Pirates IN The Caribbean Party.” Captain Hook was there of course, and there were fireworks and everything. (Apparently DCL is the only cruise line that has fireworks on board.) Then there was a midnight dessert buffet, and we sailed away from Cozumel. We were in bed by 12:30, and had a towel snake in the room and chocolate coins on the bed.
THE END!

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Jill, you're a lot smarter than I am!:rotfl:
Duh, it didn't click in my head that this was before Pirate Night came about.

I was going NUTS trying to find the photo I saw. But now I don't have to, because the Mariachi Mystery is solved.

Cruise News:
Disney Will Add Two New Ships in 2011 and 2012!

The Walt Disney Company today announced the long-awaited expansion of the Disney Cruise Line. In a press release, company President and CEO Bob Iger announced that the company has signed a letter of intent with Meyer Werft Shipyards of Germany to build two, 122,000-ton ships, each with room for 4,000 guests (Disney's current ships are each 83,000-ton/2,400 guests). The first of the two, as yet unnamed ships will be delivered in 2011, and the second will arrive in 2012.

Few additional details are available at this time. The ships will each have 1,250 staterooms (up from 877 -- a 40% increase), they'll be two decks taller, and Disney intends to follow the same design traditions as before -- gold scrollwork at the bow, the existing DCL color scheme, and "classic" ship style. Artist's renderings of the new ships look remarkably similar to the existing ships, with the addition of two more stateroom decks in the area between the lifeboat deck (deck 4) and the main recreation deck (deck 11) -- lots more rooms with verandahs! There is no word yet on proposed itineraries.

If you use photobucket they can make dvd's for you but I doubt if they add music like Grim did.

A reunion reunion in 2011 in Cali!

Sounds like a plan to me~

I have been making CD's & DVD's of my American Legions pictures that I found laying around in a closet at the Legion. For a grand total of 5100 pictures. I put them in albums that hold 300 each. Around 17 books . This has been quite a time consuming chore. :hourglass I only have one book left to do. :cool1: For each book I make a CD, a DVD w/o music & a DVD with music.

I have used media center to make slideshows on CD & DVD without music.
I have used windows movie maker & a program called muvee to make slideshows with music.
windows movie maker makes basic slideshows & you place your music where you want it.
muvee adds birds, flowers, black & white, santa claus & on & on. It will stretch, shorten or keep the pictures normal (how they are played) to the music.
The first two came with my computer the third one I purchased.

Then after you decide which one to use. Just follow the directions. It's easy.

I hope this helps.

Sounds like a plan Ladies!

They'll have to do our picture special this year...maybe on the stairwell since there will be so many of us...we're up to 17.5 on my last count, and that's just who wants to sit at dinner together :faint:

I have a feeling they will make us do 2 tables this time but I also think we can just switch up who sits where, like we did last time.

What else ya got planned Aisling?

I think you are all CRAZY for even thinking about dresses this early. Styles may change girls:lmao:

Seriously, no you are not crazy, but I don't have time to worry yet. I am a CPA and unfortunately until April 15, there is a thing called taxes keeping me very busy. Last time I wore a black tea length dress with white satin trim. Will probably bring that again, but I also have a black halter dress from a recent wedding that might be a bit fancier. DH will probably not wear a tux though, so we'll see.

Some gold jewelry or something might be good:) I have red hair too, not sure that too much gold would do this lady any good!!

tiggerwannabe
02-27-2007, 04:49 PM
I know my husband and son won't do tuxes...

Mine would do as Aisling's did, wear a nice dark suit for formal night and leave us ladies to wear whatever we choose :teeth:

Good morning cruisers,

I have Jesse home sick today...just a cold, but it has him worn out. We've been lucky this winter, no colds, flu, nothing, but my poor baby picked up a bug just as the weather is getting nicer. I got him a flu shot to try to keep him well enough not to miss any school, so that I can take him out of school for 2 days for our Disneyland trip. So far he had perfect attendance, so it'll be ok.

Louise (for those who don't know, she's Chad's girlfriend), is so into planning for the cruise already. She's a real disney nut like us, so Chad knows how to pick'em!:lmao: Luv ya, Lou! By the way Lou, you should post here! Tell everyone about yours and Chad's upcoming spring break trip to WDW.

I have so much housework to do today, and I keep thinking of the bible quote "the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak". I just can't get motivated. But ever since I quit my job last summer, I have to at least look busy in the house! I'm still teaching religion on Wednesday afternoons, but I think this will be my last year. I say that every year, so who knows.

Anyway pals, have a good day, and I'll check in later.

Nan, have you tried that tux on Wilson lately?

I have a strong feeling he won't fit that tux when we cruise again ;)

I know it's a long way off, but I think Mel is going to bail out of this cruise! When I talk to him about it, he says he thinks he'd rather stay home and relax. I always show him the pictures and he says everything looks great, but that it's not his thing. I told him I'd have no one to kiss at midnight NYE, and he said I can kiss Mickey! He wasn't being mean, just trying to be funny. I think he's trying to ease his way out without hurting my feelings!

Boy have I missed a lot.

1 Gold dresses? Oh my God. Wow, I don't know. I would really have to think about that. Fortunately, I have a lot of time.

2 (Chanting) We Want Mel - We Want Mel. How can he do this.

3 Sooo Where is Louise?

4 Tuxes/suits. They will all look gorgeous.

5 Love the Avatar. You have such great taste.

6 We have another Red Head in the group. Quite the color.

7 Who is the guy in Grims siggie? If that's a film my action stuff isn't working what is the site to see it?

8 I have an accomplishment. I tried crocheting for the umteenth time. Finally finished something. A blanket (Queen Size) Think I'll go for something smaller, like a jacket.

It's a clip from Star Wars (slightly modified). It's just an animated GIF. If you can see your green sparkly mickey head, you should be able to see it.

And I am NOT wearing a gold dress - that would clash horribly with my pink hat.

I had my friends 8 month old daughter yesterday afternoon.(her mom was at the hospital with chest pains) Man babies are a lot of work. She was easy too. But they are just hard with the constant attention required. So glad mine are school aged now.

Hi cruise gang,

my Chad has the flu! I just got back from the MDs with him. This is the third day with a fever, ranging from 101 to 103, and I thought this is more than just a cold. So I called the MD and he said bring him right in. My poor baby, his body is aching something awful. The doc said he'll be ok in 3 or 4 more days, but if the fever gets any higher than 102, I need to bring him back. I got Jesse a flu shot a few months ago when he was there for his regular physical, and the doc asked if I wanted the shot for him, so I said sure. Usually I never get my kids flu shots (Mel and I never get them, either), because we never have the flu. But from now on, flu shots every year. Doc also said if you have flu symptoms (fever, body aches), there's a shot called Tamaflu (spelling) that can cut the flu down to half it's length if taken on the first day of symptoms. So I'll remember that if Mel or I start feeling sick.
Anyway, he'll be ok with lots of TLC. I'm just counting my blessings that it's only the flu, and notpneumonia or worse. And I'm so grateful that he got this now, instead of next week or the next, because he and Louise are leaving for Disney on the 30th. If she catches it from him, she must have it in her system by now, and she'll also be done with it in time. He's 21 years old, but it still feels the same for me as when he was a baby. Tiggie, you know exactly what I mean.

Other than that, life is good, thank God.

Hope you all are well. {{{Hugs}}}

Hi Irene! I'm new to this group as well...but i heard they are quite a bunch; so i am excited to get to know everyone a little bit better :cool1:

Tig, i have not called the poly yet but i def need to get on that..thanks for looking out :thumbsup2

Hi All,

My DH and I just got off of the Magic on 2/24/07 and will be joining all of you for the NYE cruise 12/27/08. We will be bringing our 16 yr old son and I am hoping that our 26 & 22 yr old sons will be joining us as well. We have stateroom 5024 with the blocked window but at least we are paying an inside rate and have some light coming through. We will be bringing our 16 yr old son and I am hoping that our 26 & 22 yr old sons will be joining us as well. We have stateroom 5024 with the blocked window but at least we are paying an inside rate and have some light coming through. We are very excited about the cruise and I'm sure this thread will keep me going until we cruise. Sounds like we have a great group of people going.

Does anyone know if there is still availabilty or if this cruise is already full?

Hi Debbie!

There are still staterooms available for this cruise.
We have sons around the same ages, I see! Did you book onboard? I think maybe you were having such a fantastic time, you probably couldn't help it but to book another cruise! Have you read through this whole thread yet? You're right about this being a great group of people.:thumbsup2

Tig and Nan, thanks for your well wishes to Chad. And by the way, don't tempt me with a cruise-before-the-cruise! I'm already poor-house bound as it is!

Sorry Aisling, but if I'm goin, you're going!!!

We can ride to the poor house together~

Just think, it'll only be for one person, and we won't do a holiday cruise-those two reasons alone should drop the cost dramatically

Aisling, I know this is off topic, but did you know you and DU are sitting together at the meet and you are both from Brooklyn?

We did book on board. We were having a great time and we should have since it was our honeymoon. However, we did miss formal night because DH was sea sick. He promises that next time he will listen to his wife and take the Bonine before we board.

I just talked to our older son (mine) and he is very interested as long as I do all the leg work. That's OK as long as they go and we can spend some time together as a family.

The 16 yr old is my DH's and the two older boys are mine. I'm surrounded by men and would love to have a girl in the mix. The only way that will happen is if one of them gets married and I can wait for that!

We will have: (ages right now)

18yo DD
20yo DSsgirlfriend
21yo DS
Acts younger than she is Mom (my Mom)
Hubby and Me
:in our crew

My husband is afraid to get seasick and keeps telling us "he's not going!" I told the kids not to worry cause I will get him on that boat. If he can't handle it, as I said earlier, I will gladly fly him home. I want him to at least try to sail with us and not just bail out, out of fear of something that may happen.

There are alot of girls in the collective group cruising with you, I'm sure we can steal you away for some "girl time" during the cruise ;)

Well Good Morning all!! I woke up this morning and was super excited because i saw a commercial for WDW... and with our trip coming up (chad and i) it just made me start thinking how fast time flies...we will be on the ship in no time :cool1:

Yesterday i received my 2007-2008 DCL planning video in the mail...Can't wait to watch it!

Tig- I called Disney about the Poly papers and they said they don't know why i never received it, but she put in another request for one...She also told me that it is ok if i don't have the confirmation paper because my ressie is fine in their computers...should i trust her or keep pressing for a confirmation?? I'm not sure what to do.

tiggerwannabe

Yes! It sounds like your ressies are fine...

I saw Aisling had issues with her Cali confirmation but said she found BOTH copies in her junk mail pile. You are allowed to ask them to fax it to you if you don't get the latest copy they promised you before you go.

allowed? I'd just ask them anyways, why would they say no to that??? I've asked them many times to do that DCL and DLand, it was never questioned.

btw, I have to fix my DCL ressie as I'm Mr. Nanette Skjerven, can't imagin that would be good for me when I try to board eh?

We just got off the 3/3 Eastern and had a great time. We rebooked and we are joining you for the NYE 12/08 cruise. I am soo excited to be planning again, but yet very disappointed to be home...keep looking to have someone come and ask me if I need anything...and disappointed that our next cruise is so far out.

We are:
Michelle, will be 38 time of cruise
DH, Michael, will be 42 time of cruise
DD, Emily, will be just shy of 8 on cruise...birthday in January!

And off the top of my head, we are deck 7 somewhere midship, inside.

Looking forward to "meeting" you all. We had a nice cruise meet thread going for our cruise last week and unfortunately our travel got very delayed arriving on day of embarkation and we missed the "get to know you" meet in the promenade lounge and kinda let ourselves get out of the loop and never really caught up with anyone during the week...we were just overwhelmed and soo busy with everything else going around that we never really met up with anyone...it was kind of a let down for me..after all the pre-cruise talk and such.

Anyway, like I said I am looking forward to getting to know all you guys...So,
if I dare ask...what is our cruise count down?

Take care all,
Michelle

Good Morning All,

That is such a long time. My DH and I will definatly have to do a long weekend at Disneyland before our cruise. You all probably understand, but I go through withdrawls if I don't get my Dis fix at least once a year. When my son was stationed down in San Diego, there were years that I went 4 & 5 times a year. My DH and I are going to spend the week after the 12/27/08 cruise at WDW without the kids.

I have heard that we can transfer our ressies to AAA and get additional On Board Credits. Has anyone heard of or done this?

I am from Marin County (and yes, Husband not Wife!), which is 15 minutes north of San Francisco. Where is everyone else form?

I've heard that you can transfer to Costco too, which is what my master plan is, but as most things I'm lazy and waiting to do this until later. My only fear with that is perhaps we will lose access to our DCL ressie online.

We are in San Jose, okay ya got that from my screen name too, huh? I always envision Marin as Mt Tamalpias (sp) and that is so pretty when we drive thru it. What area are you in?

Ok,

I booked through DCL online. After a few weeks, I called Costco and they took over the ressie. I kept the same #, same rooms, same everything. I became entitled to a big fat Costco gift card. I was not paid in full, only had the downs paid. When it comes time to pay the balance, I will call Costco and make the payment through them. I may pay a few months early this time so to get my Disney Visa points. You get 6 months 0% interest when you use the card, and a $25 stateroom credit per room.

It's really very easy, and Costco is trustworthy.

Hi Jill!!! Have you been riding your trike lately? The weather is getting nice for it, I think.:thumbsup2
We have the same problem, with my Stepson but he is old enough to fly back on his own and his mother will pick him up at the airport. We had all of the kids with us at WDW the week before our honeymoon cruise. We got married at the Sheraton Vistana Resort on February 14th.

There was a time that I could drag their little butts out of bed to be at the parks when they opened. Good luck doing that now!!!! We didn't get to the parks till 11am and they closed (depending on the park), by 7pm. Needless to say, I didn't get to do or ride everything. To top that off, they were all to tired to go out at night so I didn't get to Jelly Rolls or the Dance Hall down on the Boardwalk. I could have left them all but I didn't want to go alone and we only had 2 cars for 15 of us.

My older son was a Marine and served 2 tours in Iraq. He is now out and Is a Sheriff in Sonoma County. I don't know why he couldn't have found a job where guns aren't involved!!!!!!!! My Husband had heard that 2 Sonoma County Sheriff were wounded yesturday at 8:30am. My son works till 7am (graveyard shift) unless he is working OT. So it's possible he could have been involved. Of course, being the loving mother that I am, I kept calling his # till I woke him out of a deep sleep to make sure he was OK. I then proceeded to lecture him about calling me (like he did when he knew I would here something about his unit while in Iraq). He's a smart man and said "yes mom, I love you" and then he went back to sleep. Needless to say, I am very proud of him. My boys have given my a lot of grey hair. Count me in as a red head. The Miss Clairol kind, but still red.

I have written a novel. I better get back to work.

Have a good day all.

Looks like we are going to have another FAHBULOUS crew for our next sailing!

We got rediculously lucky with our 2005 crew, Mom cruised with DISers the year before our trip and didn't have half the fun we had on ours...

For those who weren't there...

We all met up on deck 10 for sail away, a North Jersey DISer friend and her husband made us some awesome matching long sleeve t's so we knew each other right away. We had a mini swap meet in the promenade lounge before the drill too. Nan and I took a walk around to get our cruising beer mugs and met the Captain in the gift shop-All in one afternoon~

Hi All,

My boys are Army Brats. My eldest was born in Germany and the youngest in San Antonio Texas. I happy that they were young when their dad and I divorced. I can't imagine pulling them out of school every 3 or 4 years. They grew up with the same friends that they still have.

My office is sending packages to Service personel in Iraq that don't get packages or letters. This is the 1st time since my son returned 2 years ago that I have done something like that. It's a good thing I have my own office because I was crying. I'm happy I did it but those emotions just came right back.

I was looking on the DCL web page to see if they have a Military Discount and they do but it is for Active Duty only. It would be nice if they would change that to include Reservists and retired as well. My son is in the reserves and my cousin is in the Army Reserves and was in Afganistan & Iraq.

I was looking at excursions for the Western cruise and there are a few that would be nice. Any suggestions?? Also if you were to skip going into port which port would you skip? I love spending time on the ship but don't want to miss something fantastic as well.

you may have heard it "Love Shack" yes we did have it as our first song at our wedding.

Love Shack was your wedding song??:rotfl2: You two are TOO COOL!

Sign says.. Woo... stay away fools,
'cause love rules at the Lo-o-ove Shack!
Well it's set way back in the middle of a field,
Just a funky old shack and I gotta get back

Glitter on the mattress
Glitter on the highway
Glitter on the front porch
Glitter on the hallway

The Love Shack is a little old place
where we can get together
Love Shack bay-bee! Love Shack baby!
Love Shack, that's where it's at!
Huggin' and a kissin', dancin' and a lovin',
wearin' next to nothing
Cause it's hot as an oven
The whole shack shimmies!
The whole shack shimmies when everybody's
Movin' around and around and around and around!
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin' baby!
Folks linin' up outside just to get down
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin' baby
Funky little shack! Funk-y little shack!

Bang bang bang on the door baby!
Knock a little louder baby!
Bang bang bang on the door baby!
I can't hear you
Bang bang on the door baby
Bang bang on the door
Bang bang on the door baby

And I think it's cool that Grim knows how to fix B-52's! And I think it's cool that Tiggie is an Army Brat! And I think it's cool that Debbie is a new bride! And I think it's cool that Jill is Jill!

Nan, yes I saw the outfit. Very very cute. I don't want to say any more about it, because I know Grim didn't take a peek on your other cruise meet board, and I don't want to spoil the surprise.:rolleyes1

Debbie, I can understand the emotion with sending the packages to our troops.

By the way, your son the sheriff sounds like a doll, the way he answered your phone call and said "yes mom, I love you." :cloud9:

That's so cool~

I believe DCL *does* have a retired military discount, I'm pretty sure we got our price down a hair with Dreams Unlimited because Mom is retired military. I could be wrong but it's worth a phone call right?

Mom (and my sister and niece) did a ruins tour and a snorkeling trip. They never got to see Key West, their cruise was rerouted due to a couple hurricanes that year. She said something a couple pages back, one of their Mexico stops was changed and they did Castaway Cay first instead of last.

If you do a ruins tour, you MUST pack yourself some bottled water. That seems to have been the only complaint I caught onto with people doing those excursions. "It's rediculously hot and there is nowhere to get yourself some water once you leave the ship."

I can't believe I figured that one out.

Having been on a Western cruise. Even if you didn't want to do an excursion some of the ports have interesting towns to just walk around & sightsee in.

Aisling, I can't believe you wrote the whole song - WOW

what ever happened during that competition you guys were in? WASPASIASBVKDBSUVHFICHSDKJB?

We got the boot.
We were kicked out.
We were eliminated.
We were sent packing.
We were ejected.
We were rejected.
We were shown the door.
We lost.
We got the hook.
We underscored.
We died a graceful death.

It was fun, though, and difficult, and time-consuming. Also good for the brain. The competition was formidable, and the ones that made it all the way to the individual rounds have great staying power. Even though Tig's and my teams were eliminated, we still have the opportunity to participate in the audience challenges for real prizes, like a 2 night, 3 day stay at the Swan Dolphin.

WPASADI Let's see if I can remember: Wicked P____ A______ Survivor A______ Dis Idol.

Good Morning All,

THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I called AAA yesturday and was able to get quoting for my sons & a girlfriend. They were able to get the room next to us for around $5000 with taxes and Insurance. It worked out to be around $1700 each. I'm not sure if they will want to spend that much and if they decide not to go I'm going to request their room. We now have 5024 with a partially block window (more like very blocked), they have 5022 which is blocked only slightly. What's nice about these rooms is that we paid inside stateroom rates but get a window. I also love deck 5 because it is easy access to all of the adult areas and not very noisey.

Are those the famous "Secret Porthole Rooms"? Good catch!

I hope your sons and GF go. Remind them that they have a over a year andf a half to save for it!

Mom chose the rooms we got for almost the same reason...

Her room has a full verandah like the cat 7 but at a cat 6 price~

We tried to get the two they had but one was no longer availabe...Mom gets choice since she's the one who gave me this information when I booked~

Happy Sloshy Crappy Weather Friday all!!!

I read an interesting article on the 16th about passports that I would like to share.

TRENTON - The process in issuing new passports has been slowed down by a new law requiring all U. S. vacationers to carry a passport - even in Mexico and Canada.
Due to the law, Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello said the National Passport Information Center is processing an enormous amount of passport requests these days.
She said the new law requires passports for trips to Central and south America, the Caribbean and Bermuda too.
According to a federal advisor, processing passports are now taking 10-to-12 weeks and expedited passports could take as long as six-to-eight weeks.
"Don't wait," sollami Covello said. "If you are traveling this summer outside the U.S,., or in the next year, apply now."
"My office is receiving an enormous amount of calls due to this delay, so I thought it was important to inform the public that we cannot help them if they do not apply early.":hourglass

Happy St Patty's day:thumbsup2

I'm not doing it immediately but we are definitely getting our passports this year...

I won't tell John that we booked the cruise for awhile, he's too nervous about sailing for me to tell him this early in the game.

I can fudge an excuse for him to get his passport, everybody else who's going knows that John is not to be told and that we HAVE to get passports in the meantime...

~It's all good~

Boy, I'm sure glad you said something. I'd hate to be the one to let it slip. We are just going to have to convince him that the boat doesn't rock. Even Laurie who has a tender tummy didn't have to take anything until the day of the hurricane.

I'm going to give him the same thing I took...

1 24 hour pill every day starting with the day BEFORE we sail and not ending till we are done~

I thought I told you but am very glad to have reminded you ;)

How was your dinner last night?

John is making Ham and Cabbage for us right now~

trinibjill
03-18-2007, 04:12 PM
Whew - on the reminder

The dinner Tom made was for the Legion. I asked him if he would make it & they would pay him for it.

I went to Pittsburgh for a skating meet. I got a 4th place for the region & tied for 8th out of 26 for the skaters that came for all over the country. I was pleased with that because at the Pittsburgh contest I usually come in around 15th or 16th.:cool1:

Tommy is making Chicken Parm with Spaghetti tonight. Yummmm :goodvibes

I guess I'm not quite Irish enough for Ham & Cabbage. I must be Italian this year.:confused3

It's not corn beef and cabbage...it's Ham~

John did a great job making it. He used honey glazed ham and added some red pepper flakes for a little spice.

He's sleeping right now and I'm enjoying a relaxing Sunday~
