I'm not going to be able to make it this year, too close to Minnie for my pocketbook. That's a shame because it was a lot of fun. And a terrific opportunity to spend time with John Bingham! My DS and his frat will probably be working one of the water stations though.
Have fun!

I have not registered yet, but I am planning to do it. This would be my first race with a chip!
Can I ask you a question, how are you training?
I am now trying to decide if I can do the 15K - Minnie Marathon in May :cool1:
Hope to see you there!

Obviously, I've missed the discount, but I'm thinking of doing this. It's only a few weeks before the Flying Pig.

ashley -- i'll be following John Bingham's training program from his book Marathoning for Mortals. I need to print it out, I have it in excel if you'd like a copy PM me your regular email address. i haven't yet counted the weeks back, but i'm betting the program starts soon. I usually jump in whereabout the LW is about 5 miles b/c that's a normal saturday walk for me.

I see we are both Ohio Moms :) ! Thanks for the kind offer. I am also following Coach Jenny/John Bingham plan. On the Ohio Distance Classic website there is a link to training programs- walk, run/walk, run, etc with the weeks listed. This Saturday is my 6 mile long run. I am nervous. I did the 5 miles the last 2 weekends. I have been doing a combination of treadmill runs and outdoor runs.
The Distance Classic will be my first big race. I am nervous. I just want to be able to finish it.
I really want to do the Minnie Marathon in May also. Are you going to do the Minnie?
Happy Training

oops are we up to 6 miles already?? seriously?? i gotta print that out!
i'm not going to the Minnie, though that would be fun one day! i was fortunate enough to go the 1/2 this past January so that was my solo trip for a while
are you from the columbus area? did you see Andrea Cambern was running and select few get to run a mile with her? wait, you aren't Andrea Cambern are you? no, you are Ashley. ok -- i was like c'mon, what is that about? that is the last person i want to chat it up with, a perky trim perfectly groomed mile-partner?
oops, that was bad, sorry
i'm following the Walk program from the book, wonder if it's different? i'm off to check it out, thanks for the heads up and you will do FINE! it's only one more mile, you will hardly notice it :)
and you will definatley finish!! your penguin medal awaits.....................

Def. not Andrea :) I am sure she looks perfect even while running.
I am not from the Columbus area. I live in SE Ohio, right on the WV border.
Thanks for the encouragement! Good for you doing 5 miles each Saturday. Have you been training outside or inside? I like being outside so much more.
I am hoping to do Minnie as a solo trip, but I am trying to talk my best friend (who lives in Chicago) to come. Once my DH graduates from grad school in August, we would like to train and do the Disney half together sometime.
Good luck this weekend!

i too prefer outdoors but it's just tooo cold right now. i'm fine in the 30s ;) looks like the TM for me saturday a.m. i'll have to make sure i get to the FC early enough that i can ask them to put a decent station on one of the TVs.
have a great LR!
i talked with one of the fitness trainers last night and he agreed to look over the MFM program for me and help me tweak the regular days with intervaling to lose some weight this time around. i would love nothing more than to be at my goal weight for this event
OhioMom23
02-08-2007, 08:23 PM
I would love to be at goal by the Minnie, but I do not think I will be able to make it in time. I re-committed to Weight Watcher Meetings on 1-15-07, so far I have lost 11lbs, but I want to lose a total of 30 or 35. I had done weight watchers when I was engaged.
Good luck on your training Saturday. I am hoping I can do my LR Saturday outside.
Have a great night!

Ashley -- how did your LR go? too chilly for me outside today, WC are still well below zero here. I had a time deadline which was good b/c it made me go to bed on time, get up on time and hit the FC right away. DH went with me so i was committed! LOL but got the 6 miles done and actually i was pleased with me speed. i maintained a 14:17 pace all the way to mile 5 then actually had grown used to it enough i bumped it up to 4.3 mph which is a 13:57 pace. i would LOVE to main a 14 min mile for this. last year I my pace was around 14:10 and i was thrilled with it. one day I hope to break 3 hours -- not that i get wrapped up in the time b/c when the event is actually here i'm more about having fun! finding someone to walk and talk with. the past two years i completed most of the distance with a new 'friend' and it really is memories i cherish. of course it makes me that crazy lady trying to start up conversations with strangers along the way -- but hey, doesn't John Bingham say that's the fun in it all!
finally got around to ordering new shoes yesterday -- i so need them! i ditched my shoes at WDW after the 1/2 b/c i was soooo mad at them! i had a huge blister and i have never ever blistered. they were spent anyhow.
WW is a great program -- i should change my siggie b/c i did switch to sparkpeople tracking now only b/c i was burned out and bored with the WW plan. i too lost on it; 25 lbs the first go-round back in 2003. alot crept back on though and i have about 12-15 lbs to get to my goal now.
off to shower and enjoy the day! have a great weekend!

Awesome Job on Your Workout OhMom!!:cheer2:  :cheer2:
Thanks for asking about my workout. I did my long run this morning (sat) at about 9 am. Yahoo weather said it was 13 and felt like 3, it is freezing in your part of Oh. I did the whole six miles. It look me 1 hour and 49 seconds. At least I finished it. The whole time I was running I kept thinking of how you said it is "just one more mile". I was so happy when I finished that I was able to do it!
What are you going to do for cross-training this week?
I will prob. walk on the treadmill or maybe do workout tapes.
Happy Training :)
Ashley

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: i knew you could do it! and you 'weathered' the weather! ok that was cheesy but that is fantastic! i hope you survived ok!! your time is awesome!! it took me 84 mins, so 1 hour 24 mins. so you :rockband:
for my XT this week i've got my one strength-training class on thrusday night (usually Wed but i talked them into moving it to Thurs this week, right now there are only 2 of us coming) so that will be one day and the other I will probably do elliptical and strength training on my own. I will mix up the actual days of the week for the training to suit my schedule if need be. i do that alot  i figure as long as i get the workouts in it doesn't matter if i have to flip-flop a couple. i actually like to do my LW on thursday or friday if I can, when the kids are at school and not take away such a long time on Saturday away. I say this now, but if my neighbor friend will pick back up on doing LW with me, then i'll do them on saturdays. i make it work for me however i can.
i'm babbling, sorry...it's late and my brain is tired!
were you really hungry today? man i was struggling with not munching my afternoon away!
now will you train with Powergel or GU as we get into the longer mileage? i had a powergel at mile 4 today mostly b/c I found them at Odd Lots for a box for $2 so i bought two boxes. usually i have them at 6 miles or above.
enjoy your Sunday off :woohoo:

Your strength training sounds great. I need to do more strength-training. Right now, I do not belong to a gym or the YMCA. I do have have a treadmill at home, which helps me out a lot! So for strength I do tapes or free weights- but I have to get better about it! Too many times, I walk on the treadmill for cross-training.
I also flip-flop my training days around. :cool1:
Have a great week

I forgot to add- I was also starving. I too was struggling with snacking. I was just thinking about what I will do for long run snacks. I will have to check out Odd Lots. We love Odd Lots.
I read Kristin Armstrong's Mile Markers Blog on RunnersWorld.Com. In one of her past blogs she mentions she eats PopTars Go-Tarts on long runs sometimes. Last weekend at Odd Lots :rotfl2: , I bought some Go-Tarts to try on long runs. I have not tried them for long runs, when I do I will let you know how they are. They are 3 points.
Do you wear a belt with water? Are there any online running stores you order clothes from? So far my running gear is from Wal-Mart or other workout clothes I have from over the years. I did get fitted for running shoes at a local running store, but have never bought clothes from there.
Thank you for all of your encouragement and advice you have given me! I sincerely appreciate it

ashley -- no need to thank me! i'm grateful for our chatter to keep me pumped up for the event and motivated on those long days. I tell you, after we posted and I realized that i really did need to get back on the schedule (calendar-wise) i felt like i was dragging on it too. i think i had a little pity for myself, but i just did this -- and had to work myself out of that b/c i'm committed to April 14! knowing that you were siked up and on schedule, etc and i was there with you really motivated me to just get up and get to the FC saturday and get my mind going in the right direction!
ok that said -- i love odd lots too! :thumbsup2 i have tried eating sport beans on my LW and for some reason the chewing and all just really irritated me! interesting about Go-Tarts though......i'm not sure if the softer food might not irritate me so much. it was cold and i felt like i was chewing frozen sticky lumps.
today i'm going to FC to do my strength training b/c i think i'll be snowed in tomorrow. i'll do my WATP dvd in place of my walk if so. i know it's not the best alternative, but i've done it before. I think it may be more important for me to get in on the weight machines. I do have some hand weights at home too, but i need to buy one more heavier set and haven't done that yet. i am really fortunate that my DH works for a company that has a fitness center for us. It's only $5 a month for me and it's only one year old. In fact, it's a fitness/medical/pharmacy. I work 'per diem' at the medical office as well. I took a tour of the facility and liked it so much that I asked about their contingent staff and eventually was hired as one. it works out nice. there have been days i wished i had my own TM but with our FC less than 10 mins away i just can't justify the cost. i have a 4 mile walking path that is .5 mile from my house so that's my norm once the weather breaks.
now -- no more XT on the TM for you young lady!! you don't want to burn out on the running :thumbsup2
i don't walk with a water belt. not that i wouldn't but i just haven't had too. when i do my LW on my walking path, i just take a couple bottles down and leave them where i know i'll loop past again. Also, another course I take into town than I pass a carry-out and i just stop and buy one. I used to walk with a fannypack when i had a regular CD player, but with my ipod i don't take a fanny pack anymore. I may on race day so i can carry my disposable camera :cool2: cheesy I know but i'm a scrapbooker :lmao:
i have gotten some decent workout clothes at Target. their brand Mossimo or something like that. i wear old clothes too, in fact i have been feeling quite frumpy  but oh well, i'm too cheap i guess. I order my shoes from New Balance webexpress b/c i too have been fitted in the past and i know which 'type' of shoe to buy from previously being fitted. BUT i tell you what, the pair i just wore for the disney 1/2 were not good for me and i had had a HUGE blister on the back/side of my heel. i trashed those shoes and didn't even bring them home i was so mad at them! but i didn't LOVE them when i got them either so i should've known. I know i'm being risky ordering a pair this late to break them in for April, but if i don't LOVE them right away then i'm going back to Fleet Feet or Frontrunner and getting fitted again. i'm not taking any chances. I wear orthotics too. oh -- and be sure you have an AWESOME pair of wicking socks. i'm probably preaching to the choir -- but socks are a BIG deal. i need to get a new pair too, my old pair is just ready to retire :sad2: man i love that pair too

Good Morning OhMom! Your workout center sounds fabulous. That is nice you get to do some medical per diem work also. When my husband graduates from PA school in August, he hopes to do some per diem work.
I love your idea about stashing the water bottles on the path. That is awesome you have a path so close to your house! I run in the downtown of our little city. I am sure I could stash some water bottles in my car or at my dad's office, etc.
Yesterday(Monday) I got up at 5:30 and ran my 3 miles (30 minutes) on the treadmill. Today is a snow day here ( I am a substitute teacher) so I am going to do a workout DVD for cross-training. I will have to do it when my son goes down for a nap. Now if I understand this correctly, we only do 4 miles for long distance this week correctly.
Have a great day in the snow!

ashley -- we have been on snowdays since Tuesday too. did you get more rain than snow? i noticed souther ohio was more in the 'green' on the radar. we were in the heavy snow zone and our county is still on a level 2.
yes this week is a recovery week so you are right -- only a 4 miler! that's one thing i like about MFM program is the recovery weeks, keep me sane. enjoy, next week is 7 -- but you can do it! it's only one more mile!
tonight i'm going to my strength training class, normally on Wed, and then i'll walk Fri and Sat on the TM. our FC was actually closed yesterday. i did 30 mins poweryoga even though it was my scheduled day off, the stretching felt good and i'm really trying to lose weight! i do know the rest days are important too --- i'll be sure to take sunday off!
what is a "PA"? sorry i can't pull that abbreviation out of my memory!
i got the idea of stashing water bottles from my cousin and Dad who have both done marathons. they run in the city and stills stash. if i was stashing in a place i thought might be a bit risky that it would be gone, i'd carry a dollar or two with me as a backup. but then again, i'm anal

Hey Ohio ladies - I am from Worthington and found and joined the boards today! My sister and I are both signed up for the Columbus Half and the Minnie :)
We are using the Marathoning for Mortals training too. Used it for last year's race - our very first half marathon and it worked great. I am strictly a walker and I too strike up conversations with total strangers during races :cool1:
Today was supposed to be my 4miler, but I did a 5K "couples" race with my dad in Powell instead. What a hoot - snowing like crazy and I am out there walking with my 73 year old dad who is in hiking boots and carrying his boy scout hiking staff. We finished dead last, but had a great time together. My pace was really his pace - around an 18:30 mile, but hey, it was great to be outside.
Keep posting your progress. Maybe we'll meet at the half!

Kathy -- :welcome: to our thread and to the DIS boards!
maybe we talked last year on the course? LOL
i did my 4 miler last week, and ladies i'm really struggling with the "Eat like an Athlete" attitude. this is my focus right now. I did notice too that the 1/2 training schedule I printed from the website for this event varies from the book training schedule. I always cross-trained on Tuesday as well as Friday, and this schedule has only Fri as XT day. i think i'm going to stick with Tues/Fri so i can get 2 strength workouts in. We are cruising in April and i'll be wearing tank tops :cool1:
Kathy -- sometimes the memories are far more valuable than a regular old scheduled workout! ok, ALWAYS they are! what is your pace normally?
i'm going to do my 7 miler Thursday this week. got plans for Saturday. got my new shoes last week and so far so good.

Thanks for the welcome.
The eating thing is tough for me too. I am a very fussy eater and have a sensitive tummy too. Sheesh.
I have found that a good night before race dinner for me is naked pasta and grilled chicken. Race morning I do a plain bagel with a little peanut butter. I have found a good "recovery" food after finishing my long walks is lowfat chocolate milk. It is easy to digest and it seems to digest quickly and easily. I usually have a glass of that is 1/2 lowfat chocolate milk and 1/2 1% white milk since "straight" chocolate milk is too strong for me.
My normal training pace for the long walks is a 15 minute mile. My half marathon pace is around 14:40 and my 15k pace is between 14:00 and 14:15, so my training pace should actually be slower, but I'm not real good about that. Of course, I am also not good about stretching after my workouts, either but I am working it. :)
I noticed the difference in the book vs on-line plan too. I also am trying to do the 2 days of cross training since I did some over training last fall and ended up hurting myself. My physical therapist really emphasized "building my core" to avoid a repeat injury.
I am doing my 7 miler on Saturday morning and getting a massage afterwards. The massage was acutally a prize that my dad and I won last week! Even though we were dead last, there was only one other couple in our combined age group, so we got prizes - a massage and a facial. Dad said I could have both, but I set up the facial for Mom while I get my massage.
Good luck on Thursday - that will be a good test for your new shoes.

Hi Ladies!
Welcome Kathy
Sorry I have been MIA for so long! Last week was terrible work-out wise. My husband got snowed in Zanesville and I was home alone snowed in with our 2 year old. Then I was out of town both days of the weekend.
I realize this can't happen again or I will not be able to run the marathong. This week I am getting back on track. Today I am going to do 3.5-4.0 maybe outside depending on when my DH gets home.
I am also cross-training 2 days a week. Usually Tuesday and Thursday. Yesterday for strength training, I did a cardio boot camp DVD.
Have a great training day

well in an ideal world.....................:goodvibes
reality is you may and probably will miss workouts and though it's not ideal it is OK. I have loaned my MFM book to someone and i need to get it back, but i'm sure it's in that book that the Penguin says just that. and when it happens make it up if you can and if not just move on. I have known folks who missed one even two of their LW and still completed the 1/2. fact is -- your body is capable of going about twice the longest distance you have done. you may be sore, but it's capable. that tidbit came from my marathon-cousin.
so you WILL be able to finish the distance...........i have FAITH in YOU!:cheer2:
ok yesterday was strange, i had planned on my 7 miler at my FC and then youngest DD was home sick all day!! :scared: :faint: it really threw me off -- but i truly thought of reporting back to everyone (on my easter challenge thread to b/c i had declared it my 7 mile day) and managed to control what I ate all day and when my oldest DD got home from school at 3 p.m. i left. got that 7 miler done!! felt great and last evening i was soooo glad b/c now i get today off!
how did it go with new shoes you ask? pretty well, at the start my feet were HOT and i mean HOT. not sweaty but HOT. do you think its' just a matter of my shoes breaking in and stretching a little?
i still have a tender spot on my heel from where i blistered at WDW -- hope that toughens up soon. i didn't notice it until about mile 6 so yesterday was ok, but that' s really only halfway.
disneywalkergirl -- i was not good about keeping my LW pace slower, i'm never good about that! well maybe by default when i walk outside but on the TM i just want to get that mileage in. I actually have been bumping up my pace some trying to work into a faster pace for Apr 14. I did 7 miles in 99 mins.
i too eat peanut butter before :)
ENJOY your massage!!! what a great treat!!!
Ashley -- be sure to let us know how the 7 miles goes for you!! you can do it -- it's really only one more mile........................:cheer2: :cheer2:

Way to go on the 7 miler!!!!
That is awesome that you were able to do it even when your daughter was sick.
I am struggling with snacking, lately. I need to also focus on eating like an athlete. One good thing as of Monday's weigh in I had lost 14.5 since I started meetings on Janurary 15. I need to lose about 14 more lbs for my weight watcher goal and about 20 lbs for my personal goal.
I am going to do my 7 miler in a little bit. I am giving it a little longer to warm up. I will report back how it goes.
Have a great training day :)

Good jobs ladies - we Ohio folk CAN do this! My massage was great, especially after my 7 miles at the crack of dawn. Of course, in my basement on the TM who can tell when dawn cracks? :lmao:
Took me 1 hr and 44 minutes, so I was right on my 15 minute long walk training pace :cool1:
FYI - I won't be doing the Columbus Half. I have a career opportunity that I need to take advantage of and it will require me to be out of town during the race weekend. Have a great time. John Bingham's races are the BEST!
The Minnie 15K is still happening, so I am continuing to train.

Good Sunday Morning Ladies :)
Ohio Walker Girl - awesome job on the 7 miler at dawn!!! I admire you for doing 7 miles on the treadmill!!!! Congrats on the job opportunity. Have fun at the Minnie.
OhMom- Hope you had a good weekend, since you were able to get the 7 miler done on Thursday!
I did it, I completed the 7 miler!! I ran yesterday at about 2:30, it was so pretty out. It was about 48 degrees. I was so glad to be able to run in just workout pants, dry fit shirts, and a sweatshirt. No hat, no shell, no gloves, etc! It took me 1 hr and 13 minutes. According to my Nike + my pace was 10:30 a mile.
On a side note: I don't think I am doing the Minnie :(. Airline prices have went up and I am also enrolling in 2 college classes next quarter. One at a community college in our town and one at Ohio Univ (which is about an hour drive from here).
Question of the Day: Are you ladies doing any other races this year?
I hope to do a few 5K's. I might do a 2 mile Cabin Fever Run today (If I am still able to register). Next Saturday, I am supposed to do a 5K with my sister at OU to support a charity. Then in March a St. Pattys Day 5K. April: Hopefully I can complete the Columbus Distance Classic. This summer I will hopefully do some local 5Ks
Have a great Training Week!!!
Thanks for all the discussion and encouragement - it keeps me motivated

Way to go Ashley - I am jealous that you got outside. Hopefully I can do that this coming weekend for my next long walk.
I know what you mean about the airfares - I got lucky with $138 RTs and now the same flights are $260 - ouch! Good luck with the school stuff. Are you working on a bachelor's or masters? I am taking a study break right now - I am taking a big exam tomorrow. I am working on a really tough professional designation series for the insurance industry. It is 8 national exams. The best part is that when I finish my company sends me and my DH to wherever the "graduation" conference is being held. If I can pull off the last xouple of exams by June 15th we would get a free trip to Honolulu :woohoo:
So think good thoughts for me.
To answer your question about races this year - I am signing up for different parts of race series called the Columbus Grand Prix. So far I am thinking about on a 5 miler on March 11, a 10K on March 24 (since I am not doing the 1/2 marathon, I don't need a 10 miler that weekend), a 5 miler on Memorial Day, a 5k in mid June, a 5k on July 4th with a 15k the following week and then a 10K in early Sept. I especially like this series because it has a walker division and chip timing.
Keep up the good work on your workouts and with school.

Kathy -- no Lasalle event for you :upsidedow pooh! but congrats on the opportunity and I WISH you the BEST!! and a trip to HAWAII ---- yes!! much PD to you for that one!! please hang out with us if you'd like.......:thumbsup2
Ashley -- how nice to get outside for your LR last weekend. does it mess you up to go in the middle of the afternoon or am I just a whiny baby? probably so :rolleyes1 i think my DH has made me more of a creature of habit over the years than i ever dreampt i would be! anyhow -- what is the "Hopefully I can complete the Columbus Distance Classic" are you registered?? then there is NO DOUBT you will cross the finish line! you are doing fantastic with your LR! seriously, i envy your pace!! you will be finished and I will be at like mile 8 :yay:
upcoming events -- hmmmm......haven't thought much about this. I said last year I wanted to do the State to State 1/2 marathon which is in Sept I believe. that would be fun i think. i was all pumped up after the Cols 1/2 last year. this year, i tell you, my feet are still recovering from the WDW 1/2 and i'm not as pumped to register for others! my left big toe is really bothering me on my walks, it's purple and i'm sure will fall off but i don't know whether i should start clipping it and get it to come off or just let it go? sometimes getting the nail off helps i think. and my right foot side/back of heel is tender from my blistered area. i hope it toughens soon.
oh wait, Ashely, hope this doesn't make you wonder what the heck you signed up for? i'm not sure if everyone loses toenails? it's not a biggie
i have thought of relaying the Cols full marathon in the fall too but it's so expensive. we'll see.........
i have yet to come into cols for a 5k or so, it just doesn't motivate me to drive 45 mins to go walk 3 miles   :snooty: does this make me a snob? LOL
there is a walker-only event isnt' there in the northern half of Columbus, that would be fun. i'll have to google that
well i have to work thursday morning until noon -- but i'm planning on taking my gym bag and doing my 8 miler on the TM after i get off work.

OhMom-
Hello! Good job on packing your gym bag. We can do this 8 miles:cool1: :cool1:
About my pace, I would love to make it a minute quicker a mile- I do not think it is every going to happen :) I just turned 24, two weeks ago and have been running (jogging) since last June - then I could not jog a 1/4 of a mile.
I admire you for doing 5 miles as a regular distance. Distance is what matters!!
I am signing up tonight for Columbus Distance Classic and also a 5K at OU this weekend.
I want to do state to state. half marathon. My DH and I went to college in Oxford, OH at Miami University. We love any excuse to go to our alma mater.
If it is Okay I thought would introduce myself finally- My name is Ashley and I am 24. I have a DH, 26, and a DS,2.5. Our son is the light of our lives. My husband is going to graduate school to become a Physicians Assistant. I work as a substitute teacher and am going back to college (part-time) to get my Spanish licensure. My original degree is in Adolescent Social Studies Education.
For the training part:
Yesterday I did 4 miles - 3 at lunch outside and 1 mile R/W on the treadmill
Tonight- Strength Training- Denise Austing Boot Camp DVD and 1 mile walk on treadmill
At Monday's weigh in down 3.5 for a total of 18 lbs.
Ladies, we can do this :) :)
Have a great training week.

i got mine done thursday and had some sore toes afterwards. i have two bruised toenails, so i nursed them a bit and they are better :) TMI? sorry! i've decided to go to the running store next week and get fitted again for shoes and a new pair of socks :teeth:

I just went back to work when his company opened a wellness center, I work as a per diem x-ray tech.

Good afternoon ladies - things have been crazy here, so no posts from me.
I am apparently the "old lady" of this group :rolleyes1 - I am 46. Look at it this way - we represent 3 different decades of life trying to better ourselves! :woohoo:
My DH (50) and I went to Ohio State. We have one son - who will be 20 later this month - he is a sophomore at OSU studying engineering and is a member of the Ohio State Marching Band - GO BUCKS! :cheer2: Right now the kiddo is in the Disney College Program working in Fantasyland - he helps make Dumbo fly! :rotfl2: I will get to see him when we go down for the Minnie :thumbsup2
Note on the Walkers event you posted the link for: I did it in its first year and I must tell you that I did not enjoy it. It was VERY competitive. By that I mean that everyone seemed pretty grim and not the usual fun crowds I usually see "at the back of the pack". My sister, niece and I all did it. This was my niece's (age 15 at the time and got 3rd in her age group) first race and when we finished she asked if it was always like this - "this wasn't much fun Aunt Kathy -these people aren't friendly! "
I have to agree with her comment - I can usually strike up a conversation with anyone, but it seemed people were in their own little clicks and very unresponsive and sometimes downright rude to "outsiders".
No magic here. We didn't do the 2nd year and don't plan on doing this year's. Obviously, some folks must really love it since the event doubled in size from the first to second year, but just wasn't my cup of tea. :sad1:
Oh yeah - I passed my exam, so one more down towrd my free trip to Hawaii :cool1:
My next test is next Saturday, usually don't schedule them this close together, but I am trying to get one more in before the 15th of March when the testing cycle close for 30 days. I have actually been able to get some audio study aids, so I listen to those on the TM.
I will do my long walk tomorrow since it looks like the weather will be pretty decent.
Keep pluggin ladies!

i got mine done last thursday OUTSIDE and it was wonderful! just got back in from my 'monday' walk here in new shoes. yes again. ending up going to Columbus Running Store and getting fitted again. they don't carry NB  but he fitted me in Saucony and they were pretty comfy here this morning. my shins were hurting some and felt like i was moving in slow motion today. oh well just one of those days i guess
recovery week!!
disneywalkinggirl -- cyber high five for your first test score! and so how did you do yesterday? thanks for the info on that walking event, i would be disappointed to drive over there and then have that kind of atmosphere. i think i'll keep the state-to-state in mind though

Glad you got your shoes taken care of - for a sport that doens't require much in the way of equipment, it is amazing the diffference the right shoes make. I get all of mine from Front Runner in Columbus - they are the best people. If you take your shoes home and discover that they aren't quite right after a few workouts, you can exchange them, no problems :cool1: Since most places won't take shoes back after they have been worn outside, this is major for me... I have taken my DH, DS, sister and niece there and all have been very happy. Let me tell you, the OSU marching band practices are VERY tough on shoes (and feet), so it is imperative that my DS has good ones.
I passed my test :cloud9: , so I am down to the last 2 - I take one in April and one in May - keep your fingers crossed for me.
I got out on Weds and did 4 miles in 76 degree weather - it was heaven. Right now it is snowing :sad2: , so the weekend distance walk outside is iffy.
Since I am not doing the Columbus Half and just doing the Minnie Mouse 15k, I switched to Hal Higdon's 15k plan, so my mileages will be varying from yours.
Both of you keep up the good work - K

I wish i would've buckled down more and lost a few pounds prior, but at this point i'm just pushing ahead

Weather looked like it was going to be an issue here today. Weather reports were calling for temps in the low to mid 30's, ran, and possibly snow. DW and I went to the expo last night, and aside from picking up our packets, we bought some cold weather running gear. She bought a long sleeve wicking shirt (in pink) and I picked up a windbreaker running vest (in blue). We listened to John Bingham and Coach Jenny talk, along with several other medical folk, and it was very informative.
Race start time was scheduled for 9am, with the 5K starting at about 9:10. Weather was cold, but the snow held off, and there was only sporadic drizzle the last half of the half-marathon. DW ran her first 5K, and finished in 37 minutes. Her goal was to finish in under 45 minutes, so she was excited.
The half-marathon course was nice. It started in downtown Columbus. We went north to The Ohio State University and did a loop around the "horseshoe". Part of the OSU band was there playing. Then we went south, past downtown, and through German Village. Then a turn back north with a finish at the same place that we started. The cold temps turned out to be perfect. I started out with a sweatshirt over a lighweight running vest over an UA long sleeve compression shirt. I was also wearing cheap gloves and a ball cap. I tossed the sweatshirt towards the end of the first mile, and I dropped the gloves at the base of the Mile 2 sign. I wouldn't say there were plenty of aid stations, but there were enough. I did miss the "extras" that Disney gives, like bananas, gel, etc. Running with shorts, long sleeve running shirt, and running vest was perfect for the weather, and I never felt cold, or too warm.
Although this was my 3rd half-marathon, it was only the second that I actually ran. When I did Disney 1/2M with my son, I walked with him, and it took us well over 3 hours. My first 1/2M last October, I ran in 2:10, so I was hoping for something better than that. I crossed the line at 2:06, cutting 4 minutes off of my time. I can't say this course was easier than the Towpath 1/2M that I ran before, but it did have more spectators; lots more. Hills were fairly gentle and rolling, nothing too dramatic. Towpath was probably flatter, but definatley more boring.
The post race party is a concert by "Under the Influence of Giants". We may stop in, or possibly just go out for dinner. All in all, it was a good day.
