Okay well next year our school offers drama. I would like to take it, but I haven't taken any art classes. So do you think I could still take drama, I'm not sure of the requirements. What were the requirements at your school. Is drama fun?

By the way I'm not taking it for some career in theatre, it's really just for fun, but I'm serious about it...

What do you do in drama?

:) :p

At my school there arn't any required classes you have to take to get into Drama I.
A couple of my friends take drama. From what they've told me, it's definately not a class to take if you're shy, but it's really fun.
They do a lot of improv and monologues and stuff like that.

i take drama at our school and is also a lesson you could choose to participate in...

our teacher once told us that we don't have to go to our drama lesson if we didn't want to...

anyway i find it fun even if i'm rubbish because i can learn more about acting to make it worthwhile :)

I'm not really shy persay but I have a question about the improv. Do they do it often. And do you learn more about acting before you start improv?

I'm not exactly sure since I'm not in the class, but I think they do improv quite often as like 'warm-up' activities and such.
I'll ask one of them next time they come online. :)

When I was in this theater group thing, we did improv like they do in Whose Line.

We did it as warm ups or as a game if we finished early.

I take drama class. im usually shy but when i have to act my personality completely flips. its a wicked fun class. we had to do a monologue on our first day. I just had to do a 2 minute skit in front of everyone just by only using facial expressions and movement. very fun.

Okay so they did improv often? Okay well before you started improv did they teach you acting at all, or did they just start out at the very beginning of the year?

Thanks you guys, I think I'm going to take it. I talked to the counselor on the phone and she said that no classes are required before it... :goodvibes

I took drama as a 9th grader and LOVED it. I am a muscial/'artsy' person so the class was so great for me. It was an awesome experience and really helped me to be more comfortable on a stage. Go for it.

I'm not so artsy like but I love expressing myself. I have another question is improv hard? Do you have a hard time figuring out what to say? Or do?

Improv is so much fun! Most of it comes naturally. Sometimes you don't even have to try to be funny... it just... comes to you.

Maybe you could sit out the first few rounds and watch others do it first? Then you could join in?

drama is fun. its a "life experience" i guess you'd say. its deffinitley worth a sample of, even if you wouldn't be interested in it past drama 1. be wary: us theatre people can be quite territorial (dont deny it you fellow geeks) and may be subject to pouting/being drama queens a lot, but beat us with a stick and we'll be nice.

try it. and remember, theres more to the theatre than just the actors. *hinthint* ;)

I'm kinda shy around people I don't know, either that or completely outta my mind yet I LOVE DRAMA!
:woohoo:
Nothing required for Drama I or II, just III you have to have taken either I or II :upsidedow

I am not going to lie a lot of people hate improv. It might be hard for you in the beginning if you aren't a 'go with the flow' type person. A lot of people LOVE just reading from a script and that's cool too. But it's a skill/talent to be able to be put on the spot and come up with something. You probably won't like it at first, and it probably will feel strange but you'll learn to love it, and get comfortable and it's a really cool thing. It's fun too, just remember go for it don't hold back or be embarassed.

Hahahah True story. Usually there are one or two people in the class who think they are AHHHHHMAZING. But um they almost never are. Don't be intimidated, you go out there and show them how it's done.:rotfl:

Wow, Now firt off I am now in love with theatre and drama.

Being a sophmore I took our Theatre Arts class as a freshmen, I was scared of half the seniors in my class, and scared to go completly crazy in front of them on stage.
Now I can say, I am jumping around like a Flying Monkey in our musical The Wiz.
I wentinto the class enver expecting to get up on stage and audition, but I fell in love with the theatre and stage.

The class was a year long, it dealt with eerything from basic acting, to special stunts (kicking choking kissing on stage etc) to a lil bit of Improv, monologues, a one act play, emotional and sensroy recall (crying on stage) etc. My taecher has also been in thsi business since she was little and directors at our school.

I suspect everyclass everywhere varies. But it is such a fun class IMO.
You seem to me like theperson who would enjoy it!
Good Luck!:)

Thank you allllll soooo much! You've helped a lot. At our school I will know most of the people that are going to be in drama, so I don't think it will be tooo hard to open up...

Was it hard for you to cry on stage? Is it hard to get really emotional, crazy or sad?

And could somebody please explain improv a little, that's the only thing I'm a little worried about...:goodvibes

I did it in Freshman Year. Improv was fun, but I HATED reading the same lined over and over again. I was good at it, but scenework bored me silly.
For improv, we got some random situation, and we were told to just act.

I was too shy for drama, but it is fun. At my school you don't have to be good at it or anything, you just have to try your hardest. My class was really misbehaved so we never really got to a real skit, we just basically spent the whole class playing improv games. As for working up tears and things, have you heard of method acting? You may learn about it in the class. It's where you base your character's feelings off of something that has happened in your past.

i hate improv. >_>

improv is basically making things up on the spot. have you ever seen, "whose line is it anyway?"? thats improv. sometimes they give you a prop or costume piece, a situation, emotion, etc. and then youre supposed to just go at it. lol improv in a nutshell xD.

as for getting emotional, i dont have that much trouble. i just find it easy. sometimes it takes me a little while because im prone to giggling the first or second time (maybe third....>>) but everyones different. it isnt as difficult as you might be thinking, though. :]

I go to a preforming arts school so I'll let you in on my two cents.
Even if you're shy it give you an even better excuse to take the course because you will need to take on a character who isn't shy. Also not everyone is good at everything, like you might suck at normal improv but you could rock at analytical improv(serious improv) or you could rule at comedia delle'arte and do bad in scene painting. Just go into the class with an open mind and remember to leave your baggage at the door meaning if there is a girl in the class you hate and won't go any where near you are gonna have to leave it at the door because you need to be able to trust everyone in order to bring put your full potential.

Hope I helped a bit,
Jenni
