Did anyone realize that the Miss America pagent was last night?

Not a big pagent fan here, but geesh, this used to be such a big deal.....:confused3

Guess it's not what it used to be, heck it wasn't even in Atlantic City!

CMT took it over when the network ratings went down the toilet. Last year they had really good numbers. I don't know if Las Vegas is the right setting for the contest either. As long as CMT is going to televise it, I think they could move it to Branson or Nashville. But then the weather could be bad (snowing) in those places, at least Vegas is usually nice.

As far as watching it, tho..................I don't have CMT on my cable (too cheap) and there are probably a lot of households that don't. It will be interesting to see how the ratings numbers add up this year.

Anyone else thing something might be wrong with the Miss America organization? Or is it America itself that is messed up?

A few things to think of.....

Miss America, moved locations, changed networks, declining ratings, seems to be on the back burner.

Yet is there anyone out there who is not aware of the controversy involved with the Donald's Miss USA pageant, thanks to the Rosie/Donald feud?

Is the Miss America pageant stumbling, or are we Americans just more fascinated with a good scandal? :confused3

You know I always had kind of a love/hate thing with the Miss America pageant. When I was little -- it was a total dream for me, my little girl cousins, and friends. We watched the whole thing and even cried if our state rep. didn't make it to the finals. It wasn't just a beauty pageant; it was a SCHOLARSHIP pageant. Seeing Bess Meyerson on TV and knowing she was a former Miss America (in spite of not being blonde, blue-eyed, vapid, or most of the other prerequisites for 1950-60's beauty) made us proud.
As I got older and learned more, the whole experience started to sour somewhat -- it mattered to me that a contestant was not allowed to have been married or older than 26 (How come?) and that it really seemed (to me anyway) to be more about being America's Designated Virgin of the Year than anything desireable in and of itself -- certainly not about the SCHOLARSHIP any more. Oddly, my daughter was never all that interested -- even when she was little. maybe -- it's time has just passed...

Now that you mention it, I did notice some women at WDW with those Miss State Whatever things on. :confused3 Never did like it. The whole thing bored me then and bores me now.

It's time has passed, that's for sure.
