Thanks Rachel, If you can't help please don't worry but I was asking because in the Oswestry Museum is a Victoria Cross medal, won by the Shropshire Light Infantry, by Private Harold Whitfield.
Pte Whitfield was my Fathers Uncle, he is very proud, understandably, of his V.C. in the family, Do you ever go into the museum? as I was wondering if they had any books about Pte Whitfield. Its my dads 76th birthday in a couple of weeks and it would make a wonderful gift.

to be honest l didnt even know that there was a museum in Oswestry which is pretty poor as l've lived here for about 15yrs :o . Have you considered ringing the museum, maybe the have a gift shop and would be prepared to send you any books through the post? Sorry l'm l havent got anymore help for you, good luck.

Hi Carol

There is a book on Amazon called Victoria Cross Heroes which tells the story of 150 people who received the Victoria Cross. He may appear in here.

I did a google search and he also appears in a back issue of the Armourer magazine issue 41 that you can back order.

Hope this helps. It sounds like a lovely idea for a pressie.

If you can,t get a book you could maybe make up a scrapbook as I noticed he even appears on Wikpedia so I am sure you could get a lot of other bits.
