View Full Version : Tip on getting calls through to MS

I just finished my reservation for SSR for Dec. 23 - 29 calling day-by-day, and I wanted to share this tip that I used. Using the clock on my cell phone, I would pick up the receiver at exactly 8:57 (12:57 on Sat.) and start dialing. I got through to MS every single time right away. On Friday the CM said "You are officially the first caller of the day". Hope this tip helps those of you who have been having trouble getting through. Of course I realize that if everyone uses this technique, it probably won't work, but I'm only going to Disney at Christmas once in my life.:rolleyes1

I did the same thing this past Saturday, but called at 12:58. I got through, but the system told me I had a 9 minute wait! All is good though as I got the reservation I wanted.

For people with unlimited long distance calling the 407 number will also get you through.

Uhhh...you are indeed right. I have used the same technique. Unfortunately, it will never work again, I suspect, as a result of this post.  This is, IMHO, not something I would have posted on an Internet board to share, or, if I felt it was important enough to share, I would have shared it and not waited till my reservation was done. Sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone, IMHO. You waited until your reservation was done, I notice, and then decided to ruin it for everyone else who is still making reservations for this busy time. Hmmmmm.....

I agree, DP, because I have been using this tactic for years and keeping it to myself!

:sad2: I have 9 of my 10 days left to get ressies for... now what am I going to do? :sad1: 8:57 always worked for me... I don't know what to do tomorrow. I know 8:58 doesn't work (busy), but I'm afraid to try 8:56 because if the lines aren't open yet...

i don't get why you're so upset at the OP? this is the same technique everyone and their mother uses to get cindy's reservations. it's not a secret and he's not 'ruining it' for anyone. in fact he just enlightened some people who might not have heard of this before.

Kim:

I think you are not getting the point of Dr. P's post. One by sharing this technique (I didn't know it BTW), so many more people will use it, that it becomes useless. What Dr. P. did that is so rare, is show honesty. The politically correct response is share and share alike. But Dr. P. was honest, he said, (paraphrase not an actual quote) 'Great, now that everyone knows about it, what good is it.'

I respect the good Doctor for being truthful about his feelings rather than PC.

BUT! and this is a big but, when you add the fact that the OP waited until he got, his one and only XMAS ressie BEFORE sharing the info, well, Dr. P. called him out (correctly) on it.

If the OP was all about fairness and sharing, why not share the info when it might have affected him, BEFORE his ressie was complete.

This speaks to character, and I probably am not allowed to explain it here on the DIS, even if I knew how to.

So on the third hand, while I agree with you, that we should share most things, I certainly see the flawed nature of this gift from the OP, and Dr. P. correctly pointed that out.

And to avoid being called the Kettle. I held back the details of the Founder's Quilt at AKL, hoping to insure I was one of the lucky 150. But at least I admited I was holding something back for my personal advantage, rather than posting about it when I had secured already!

I hope you can see what I'm trying to say here.

Thanks for the tip!

Good Grief - why are people getting so bent out of shape? There are 300,000 DVC members - how many of them are actually planning a Christmas trip and are actually reading this thread?

I wanted to book a 12-23/12-28 trip to the BWV's today, so i called around 11:30, got thru was told I had a 7 min wait........waited and booked the trip.

I never call first thing in the AM anymore unless I am calling right at the 7mth window (none home resort).

Why beat your self over the head trying to be one of the first callers in the AM?

BTW, I have never been shut out at my home resort, when calling anytime between 11-9 mths out. I will admit I have never booked a GV, and those can be hard to secure at times.

I could not agree more. Some secrets are best kept. When I found out I could get through early, I wondered how long it would be until someone posted the 'secret'.

Hey, give the OP a break. Haven't you ever been so involved with a task you didn't think to offer your experience until after you completed it?

The tip is good to know. Not that it matters for me. I always have to wait for special services to block a handicap room. Anyone care to trade the hassle of doing that and suffering through even more limited availability?

FYI: I've been calling the last several days at 9:00 with about a 7 minute wait each day, not too big a deal, I've been successful at getting my ressies. So today, after reading this thread, I called at 8:56, got right through, and am done! Don't know how the lines are right now, though!

Well, y'know, if everyone starts calling at the OP's magical number, there will probably be a shorter wait at other times...

I usually call whenever the notion strikes me (or my husband calls and says he needs to go to Disney again, STAT!), so maybe, oh, 2:23 pm will become the new magical get in touch with MS time (that's when I'm sitting in carpool) :thumbsup2

The best time to call MS is exactly 2:00:27pm, They have just returned from lunch, logged back into PC, Headset on, and are ready to field calls, And remember ask them how lunch was, great ice breaker!!!!!

How much does this speak to the persons character? The first 3 or 4 days I imagine someone that just discovered this might still be thinking it is a fluke or a one day occurrence someone might have turned the phones on early or maybe the cell phone co is off. However unlikely why broadcast a discovery before you are sure. After day 4 I would say you are right.

Oh- don't you worry- there are some secrets to good to give up. There are also some secrets that would be ruined by the powers that be (AKA the MIA or Mickey's Intelligence Agency) if revealed. This one is both.

I think anyone posting a thought or idea on this board should be thanked... it is what makes this board alive!!!

Everyone reading is hoping to learn something. I'm sure each person here has learned something from this board... that could have been kept a secret.

I'm sure Dr. P was completely honest in his response. No doubt. But I clearly see a slam to the OP.

Tony spoke of the OP character. I believe OP has high character equal to each person on this board. I'm sure they were trying to "pay back" to the community for things they had learned through "secrets" from this board. And I appreciate that!!! Slamming that OP only brings your character down.

It is not a "flawed nature of the gift"... I'm sure early on their thoughts were on getting their reservation made. Probably hindsight... they noted a strategy.

I appreciate this community... and I'm sorry to jump in... but I believe in being fair and nice. Jumping on the OP is neither.

Thank you OP, thank you Dr. P, thank you Greenban... for all the 'secrets' you have shared!

Must be a full moon tonight, this is the second thread I've read where the OP started out saying something that was meant to be informative and helpful and it ended up going south.

Thanks OP for sharing and no one needs to worry about this DVC member clogging up the phone lines at 8:57, I'm working to pay for my many many vacations. :rotfl:

I have called a few minutes early for my last 2 reservations...frankly this was because none of my clocks in the house seem to be running at the same pace.

Today I called a couple minutes early (as usual) and got right through. So from my perspective nothing has changed. I think there are lots of "secrets" out there that really aren't that secret.

I can understand peoples' frustration when they are using a strategy that works for them...and then feel that their secret has been exposed making it harder for them. But for someone fairly new to the whole DVC world...I very much appreciate all of your helpful tips, willingness to share information and patience with endless questions.

I used the same tactic today and, amazingly, the phones lines didn't even open till AFTER 8:00 (a few seconds) by the "atomic clock". So, the old tactic certainly did not work for me this morning, and once I got through the MS phone rang for five minutes without a pick up. I called later and after twenty-two calls at about 11:15 am EST I got through and another twenty minutes on hold got the reservation I needed.

I guess I just haven't gotten the hang of Tony/Greenban's sardonic humor. His ponderings on personal character didn't strike me as funny.:confused3: I blame the frog thing. The little critters always did catch me offguard.

FWIW, after pulling one of my usual allnighters the other day I called up Disney to inquire about La Nouba ressies. I needed accessible seats for May and got my pick of dates. Then I hung up and called WDW Dine for Cindy's ressies, also for May. I had my pick of times and dates. This was what, 100 days out? I've also fiddled with my room ressies this year, added a day, dropped another, all within a 7 month window. No problem.

I think all the fuss about getting availability is 80% overblown unless you are talking about booking a major holiday or last minute. Or maybe I'm just incredibly lucky.:flower3:
