what is the best credit card for "sky miles"? I really do not want to use AMEX. Are there any other good ones out there?

Are you talking about Delta miles? Or generic freq. flyer miles?
A good bb for that would be
http://www.flyertalk.com
Go to the miles section for all types of good information.

Randy Peterson also has a book out called the official frequent flyer guidebook. it tells you what you can use for what carrier and what gives the best mileage accruel.I thinkyou can purchase it from his websight flyertalk too! if not then check with Barnes and noble. according to this book the only cc that delta uses for ftp miles is American express and you can also convert your diners club points into DL miles. if you need to know anything else let me know and I cna tell you what it says in the book. I also get the inside flyer magazine from Randys websight too. if you have mci as your long distance carrier you can accrue miles that way as well.

Here are your options:
American Express (http://www.americanexpress.com) is the only card that specifically gives Delta Skymiles. There is a 10,000 mile enrollment bonus and an annual fee.
They also have a card with no annual fee which only earns 1 mile/$2 spent versus the normal 1:1 ratio.
Diners Club (https://www.citibank.com/dinersus/mgm/apply/index.htm) gives you a 12,000 mile enrollment bonus and you can redeem their 'miles' on a number of airlines including Delta. There is an annual fee
Another card with not so good exchange rates:
Hilton Honors Visa (http://www.hilton.com/en/hhonors/points/visa.jhtml) gives you 2 HHonors points for every dollar charged. You get 10,000 enrollment bonus points. 10,000 Hhonors points can be exchanged for 1,500 Delta Skymiles. (Or other airlines too).
