Okay we are going to WDW for a week and I hadn't planned on going to downtown Disney. What is there? Is it worth it (dd is 4)?

There are ALL KINDS of Disney related shops and restaurants down there! Pleasure Island, Westside and the Market Place are the different sections that make up DTD. The shops are fun for my mom and I to wonder in even if don't buy anything, which is very rare. I'm not sure how to do it, but I bet someone else could give you a link to and about DTD. Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique is there as well, a shop that's like Gloumour Shots for Disney little girls. They can get their hair made up, get dressed up as a Disney princess and have a photo shoot.

We were wondering the same thing. I was reading the disboard and it sounds like there is lots to do besides eat. We're thinking of heading down at night time and exploring all the shops. There is the goofy candy store where your daughter can make her own treats. There is the bibbiddi bobbidi store where she can dress up like a princess. I heard the wonderful world of disney store is huge and alot of fun to explore. Also the lego store where your daughter can play with lego. I also heard there is a dollar store that has neat things in it. I can't wait to go and relax after a day in the park and have fun.

There is also a merry go round and a small train that you have to pay for but the kids enjoy it because they can ride by theirselves. There is also a Rain Forest Cafe and a McDonalds and it is situated on a lake. It is just a nice place to hang out and you can spend nothing and just people watch.

DTD is my 3rd fav "park" lol.. right after MK and Epcot. I usually go several times a trip.
The dollar store I THINK is more of a $10 and under store.. it's attached to another store if I remember correctly. The store I recall it being attached to had a lot of pet items.

You don't want to miss DTD! It is fun to walk around. You can shop, get good sit down meals, fast food, or even ice cream. We usually go there many times when we need a break. THe stores are cool. Go and enjoy. YOu won't be sorry!

Come on, this is Disney! Of course, it's not an actual Dollar Store. Like CinRell said, it's more like $10 and under, and I think it is next to the Disney Tails store that sells pet items. It isn't as big as the other stores, go figure.

DTD is a great place to go when you have a half day extra, say like on arrival or departure days. Also, on days that we go to AK we head there after they close at 5p. I could spend at least a whole day there.

There's a cute little log she could sit on with a Winnie the Pooh figure for a picture. Definitely go to the Lego Store. You can have her picture made with the Lego tourist family and the sea dragon and the other Lego structures. Go to the Christmas shop and World of Disney. Maybe take the boat and ride over to Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter and eat there.

Downtown Disney is a blast for all ages. We really enjoy the Disney Pin store. We are so hooked on pins. After reading several of the posts we are going to try a night visit this year. I think we are going to play mini putt. Hang out at the pool. Then hit downtown for supper and fun.

I have a teenage son but he loves DTD and it is usually the first and last place we hit upon arrival and departure. He loves the Gharidelli shop and I just love looking. The last time we went they had a good sale on scrapbook items.

I enjoy shopping there and just taking in the atmosphere. But my favorite is the Gharidelli shop's sundaes and other treats.

You can just catch a DTD bus from AK.

We LOVE DTD. We go several times during our week vacation. Love the World of Disney, and Pooh's Corner, Goofy's Candy Co. fun place to go!
And don't forget Once Upon a Toy!! It's the best toy store I've ever been in! Toys from today's shows/movies and yesterday. It's a great trip down memory lane. I agree you can't skip Downtown Disney! Last time we went, we did the 4day Land & 3 day Sea, then we went to Cocoa Beach for some downtime after the cruise. It was a rainy day in Cocoa Beach so we hopped in the van and drove to Downtown Disney for the day. I find it so hard to be in Florida and not go to Disney. Definitely a great time!

What are the hours of DTD? Specifically, the stores? I'm going on a whirlwind weekend trip and I can't figure out when stores close up!!
-Sarah
Edited to add: Ah. Allearsnet.com gave me my answer - 11:30pm on weekends!

Downtown Disney is definitely worth checking out! I'm out there all the time and it never gets old :). They have tons of shops out there (for both kids and adults) not to mention fabulous restuarants (the Rainforst is my favourite). They also have Pleasure Island out there for the adults, and Disney Quest for the kids (4 stories worth of video games and other interesting things). It's a great place to go when you want the Disney atmosphere, but want to take the day kind of slow.
