Mod thread.

I've PMed every single webmaster once, several more than once.

You all know the problem I'm talking about. Its KILLING the Teen Board.

We used to be able to boast "best behaved" on the dis, not any more. I've seen several vile attacks over the past few days. The Teen board is spirling downward.

We need some kind of moderation. I saw travis post a while back, and tara too, but you have to understand, they have lives. They can't dedicate their whole day to the TB, and no one is asking them too. But we need a few more people in place. This board is too much for two people.

I've put two years of my life into this forum, and I can say, this is the worst I've ever seen it. This is the least moderated we've ever been. This is insane.

We need mods.

We need moderation. Every other board gets it, why not us? We're like the red headed step child of the dis.

This is a problem that needs to be taken care of, and people have stopped listening to me.

The teenboard is obvisoulsy suffering through hard times, so why are they paying no attention. Not to be stereotypical because I know we are mostly a good group of teens, but wouldn't you expect a teenboard to get more moderation? Maybe its just me, But things seem to be getting out of hand and it needs to be taken care, I don't know if we can solve it ourselves without a lil help from the people above us.

Because those are the things that start fights, I have been on here for two years as well, and I dont think the dis is that crazy right now..You make it sound like everyone is being negative, but I dont see a lot of that, just once in a while I see some remarks that are mean...

Everyone on here is an individual, and when I first joined I remember being bashed by a lot of people because I liked Hilary Duff. And that is what a lot of people are doing, bashing other because maybe they dont like Wal-Mart.

As far as the webmasters go, I know they are busy and all that, but I wish over the last few months they could maybe reply back, at least once, to my question...lol. It doesn't have to be a long pm -- just even a simple "I got your pm and will look into it" or "Just wanted to let you know we have received your pm"....or at least something like that.

I have seen some threads that certainly could have been closed...and I have seen posts that certainly needed to be deleted. That right there is more than necessary here.

This board isn't a huge chaotic mess. That's good! Let's make it sure it never gets that way. :upsidedow

I agree with everyone that we really do need more moderation. When I stsrted posting on the TB, I was schocked at how civilized we all were. I had decided to stop posting on some of the other boards for a while because of bitterness. Now, many of our threads are full of flames and personal attacks.
I have seen maybe two mod posts in the past couple of months.

I know that I have PMed webmasters about really serious problems, such as the thread about suicidal thoughts. I got a response from Kathy on that one, and the problem was dealt with. The problem is that we have to have regular mods to deal with the smaller, everyday problems, not just webmasters to deal with the rare, huge problems.

It was weird. Her name was "c'est moi"...like she couldn't have put it in english.

She was saying random insults that didn't make any sense. And I didnt' really want to chew her out, but honestly, she just wasn't stopping on here. I've not heard anything out of her since, and if I do again, I'll get her banned. I'm sick and tired of her. :confused3

Everyone's is at times. Sarcasm is the lowest form of humour, and some people just take it as rude, rather than a joke. Shelby, you are very sarcastic, and that's not a problem most of the time, it's just when someone who misinterprets sarcasm reads your posts, they think it's go time. :rotfl:

Think of a mod sort of like the teacher of a board.

They tell you what to do, they are nice people that can show you how to do things on the DIS, and explain things. :) So in other words, the mod is your friend. :)

Nope.

That's the admin's job. Just kidding, you will get a warning after you break a rule after being told not to. Like if you "attack" someone's family, that can result in big trouble. Just be nice to everybody and the moderator will never have to warn you.

The board has no say in the new moderator. It is up to the webmasters who is chosen.

I love our current Mods, they're great. I think (like Ive said before) we need a person who can dedicate more time. Like Shelby or Billy or (me) lol... Someone who doens't have a big college schedule. But they have to ahve been on here a long time. It'd be great if we were already friends with them, also! Not new ones just another!

Tara is not in college...so that is not the reason she is not on the board. Travis is the only one in college. Not disagreeing with you, just I have seen it posted before that Tara is in college and she is not so just clearing that up.

Another point i'd like to slide into the conversation is that yes, at one time the Mods on this board were completely active and were TEENS in High School or Juinor High.

As everyone knows, people grow up. I think as a teen board, the moderation should be different than a board such as the CB for this reason. A new set of Teens are coming as the older ones are retiring to the other boards such as the CollegeB or the CB.

At one time this was teen lead, teen read, with a few adults popping in here or there to ensure that everything was running smoothly. I think that the DIS should seriously take into consideration changing the mods every 3-5 years (or as needed), thus ensuring that the board is and will always be teen lead, teen read.

The Teen board is called the Teen board for a reason.

A moderator is a member of the posting community who others feel can take charge and handle a situation, and clean up messes when they arise.

You don't bring in a poster that no one knows to moderate. You bring in a poster that everyone knows, and even if they may not like them, they have faith in them to do a good job.

Thats what a mod is. Its not some random person coming from out of the blue.

I am sorry for some of the bashing that I did, because some of it was a little harsh, and I think that POTC gets a bad rep, but still, there should have some kind of moderation. You both have valid points, but I agree with Shelby in that a mod should be an active member of the posting community. What we need is an additional one or two mods to assist our excellent, current mods. The people should, IMO, be responsible enough to look at threads without extreme bias.

we only had two going on at the time when there done with them they just get bumped down but we have our own site now that only the people that we can trust get the link too there is other things you can bash that are actually bad

Come to think of it, having a sticky of the eye candy/pirate thread is a really good idea. That way, new posters could see it before making a new thread about it.

I agree that a POTC thread should be a sticky. I think that POTC is the thing that upset many posters. There's no real problem with them, just the fact that they're taking over and several posters are getting annoyed.

but i do agree there should be another mod to help (not replace) manage the boards to keep a level of sanity or order..whichever is more preferred.

I've done everything I can up to this point. I've pmed everyone. They've all finally stopped responding to me.

We need moderation. Every other board gets it, why not us? We're like the red headed step child of the dis.

She started a thread saying the OC had been cancelled. A few people posted that they never liked the show anyway, she got mad, edited the OP to say "FOR FANS ONLY" and told everyone else to go away. We told her she couldn't just tell us to stop posting because we disagreed with her.

And its a tv show.
