Our family is just 12 days from being at the All Star Sports Resort. After staying for a couple of days, we're heading for a week on the Gulf in Ft. Myers Beach. We're wondering what might be the quickest way to get there. Our 2 options seem to be I-4 to I-75, which is not terribly direct, but is interstate the whole way. The other option would be more direct, using 27 south. With 27 not being interstate, we weren't sure if it would be a time-saver or not.
Any advice out there from Floridians or others who have taken these routes?

2 yrs ago my parents and I went over to Fort Myers for a spring training game and to see some friends.
We went I-4 to I-75 and it took us about 2 1/2-3 hours of course we made a pit stop along the way. Yrs ago we used to stay over in Bradenton and used to have to go through over the skyway bridge just to get near I-4 not any more
You can stay on I-75 and go all the way to FT Myers now!

Thanks, sue Z for the reply. I'm still looking for someone who's taken U.S. 27 South, etc. down to Ft. Myers Beach. Anyone else out there know anything about that route?

I usually take the US 27 route. Have never had a problem, although every year the traffic on the northern portion seems to be a little worse than the year before. Be sure not to miss the turn-off SR 29 (?) just as US 27 heads more easterly. Then SR 80 (?) to I-75, then south to Daniels Rd.
According to MapQuest, the US 27 route is about 40 miles shorter than the I-4/I-75 route, but takes about a half hour or so longer.
