Tony's Town Square, dessert question

On allearsnet, it says that DDP patrons are being served a dessert sampler. is this true, that you don't get to pick what you want? I have my heart set on something and only care for two of the things that are on the sampler plate. Does each person get this sampler plate, which seems like a lot to me?

I see what your saying--I hope that is not the only option--If they go to that and we don't have a choice then it will be no time at all until we are all given separate menus with only a few choices. Curiousity has me wondering if this is an offering or the only offering. I hope it is not a sign of things to come. I will change my ADR if I am being limited in the offerings.

I'm not sure if it is the case in this case, but I do think it is a sign of things to come. How much value do folks in general (rather than anyone in particular) derive from each person having their own dessert, after a huge meal, including an appetizer. Often desserts require remarkable amounts of manual labor to prepare, so if the Dining Plan is perceived as an especially good value for the money, that's one place where Disney can seek to capitalize on that value.

In August , DDP guests got the sampler platter. We were served one platter for two people to share. It was plenty and delicious!

Thanks! I just do NOT like two of the items on there and was really looking forward to something else. No biggie though, we are going and will enjoy outselves regardless. Leaves more for DH anyway!

It was only during the "free dining" promotion that the sampler was the only option. Tony's is back to the regular menu now.

We had dinner at Tony's on our trip in August, and we didn't get to choose the dessert. They automatically brought it to us at the end of the entree. We didn't care for part of the dessert sampler. Part of it included tiarmisu (we don't like coffee). Dinner was great, but not so much the dessert.

We all got to order our own desserts. We each got a different on and all were delicious:thumbsup2

I had seen Kelly's photo of the dessert sampler before I went in October, I knew that isn't what my children would want so when we first sat down and were talking to the waitress I asked her about it. She looked at me a little funny, like the dessert platter didn't exist, and told me we were free to order whatever we wish. I know it was early to talk about dessert since we had just ordered drinks but I didn't want her to just bring it out without us realizing it was coming since we wouldn't have gotten any dessert if it was the sampler and I didn't want it to be wasted.

I guess it makes sense that it was during the free dining period.

We were there during free dining last year and we did NOT get the sampler. We got to choose our own dessert. The tiramisu was awesome!!

I think that if WDW starts having "different rules" for the free DDP period that this is unfair. Let's not forget that we are forgoing other possible room/pass discounts to get this "free" dining package. While it does save money, it truly isn't "free". If they decide to cheapen it or take away choices to turn tables over faster, then that stinks. :guilty: Just my thoughts...

No, not "unfair". Disappointing, perhaps. The Dining Plan is arguably underpriced -- just look how popular it is, and how happy so many guests are with it. I would make sense to bring the value and the price more in line with each other, either by increasing the price (not my preference) or modifying what is offered.

Some DIS members have pointed out that there actually is an inequity going on, but it is with regard to non-Dining Plan guests, who have to "suffer" through circumstances that are arguably the "fault" of the Dining Plan. Rules that apply only to the Dining Plan would address those problems.

Desserts seems like a likely approach, and maybe appetizers too, but not-so-much with regard to entrees. One of the selling points of the Dining Plan is how much like a regular restaurant experience it is -- that exclusions and limitations, while assuredly evident, aren't onerous or prevalent.
