I posted this on the news & rumors board, though folks on the DVC board would be interested.
It's being reported that the South Florida Water Management District recently approved a permit for the construction of "Disney's Contemporary Suites Vacation Club Resort." The permit supposedly includes diagrams of the C-shaped building whose images leaked out on the net several months ago.
I attempted to do a search on their web site, http://my.sfwmd.gov/ePermitting/MainPage.do but you need the permit # for the search.
Anyone over here have any additional info.?

I don't know anything other than that MousePlanet posted the same link. There are already plenty of people who "know" what's happening, including a number who claim that CRV is absolutely, positively, undeniably and reliably dead. I'm happy to just wait for further info.

This cat sure is scratching its way through the bag.
I wonder what Disney's gonna advise its "informers" to tell us now...

So is it happening? Why was no info ever leaked about AKLV ...or was it??
I thought AKLV took everyone by surprise.
I would LOVE it if it was true.:) ...A DVC resort on the monorail would be great.:thumbsup2

Um, people? Who is it that is spending their time watching permit filings and such? How is it that we keep getting the drawings and permits and stuff?
And what made them look in the first place? Is someone at Disney leaking, someone at outsourced companies or do people start searching when they see construction happening or what? Any idea? Just curious.

i'm guessing that this gargantuan structure is going to cost GAZILLIONS of dollars and they're needing to keep it under wraps so they can gradually incresase the per point cost so $125-$150 per point doesn't seem like that much more money to potential purchasers.
I suppose they didn't need to do this for AKV because everyone already knew that the infrastructure for DVC was built in and they need to get bodies into that building.
of course, this all just pure speculation on my part - but it sure is fun!:yay:

Actually, most here think that that CR-DVC will happen...just not for a while. Personally, I think the order is AKV, then California, then Contemp. That means it is still years down the road. This is going to take much longer to build than both AKV and the remodel at the Grand Californian (which is rumored to be officially announced on 1.24--keep watching!).
Since most of the surface under the proposed CR DVC is sand, they will have to a ton of site work before they could begin to build.
Although I would love a monorail DVC, and I think that the Contemp needs DVC, I sure hope they don't go with that c-shaped thing.

You don't usually pull permits until you're ready to pull the trigger, so to speak.
At least it's so with residential properties...

It really could come at any time. There is no reason why DVC has to sell one resort at a time. In the early days when they did the off site resorts, they were selling 3 at a time (Hilton, Vero and one on-site). California I think will clearly be being sold at the same time as at least one Florida resort. The target audience for California is totally different than the audience for Florida.
With the demand growing, they could easily sell two or three resorts on the Florida property at the same time. Contemp will appeal to some folks, AKL will appeal to others. In some ways, having a choice of properties makes DVC even more appealing.
So both California and Contemp could really start up at anytime.

It seems to me that the "leaked" proposal for the CRV is the type of structure that could take several years to complete. Would AKV sell out (or be nearly sold out) before CRV would even be available for sales? :confused3
Could this be a mixed use structure - with part of it going to regular resort use & part to DVC?
Isn't it fun to speculate? popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

Now the VCR/CRV is a more appealing project for me. DVC on the monorail!!!

I would think with DVC Contemporary, they would have to complete the whole structure before anyone could use any points there. If so, that would take a while. And the AKL would be the same way except for the rumored units in the lodge itself. If all this is true, they need to get building right away.

It says right on the permit under Project Considerations.
"The project is a proposed Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Resort that will be built at the Contemporary Hotel in Walt Disney World, Florida. More specifically, the site of the new construction is the existing north wing of the Contemporary Hotel. The existing hotel wing includes a series of three story buildings plus landscape areas, walkways and support facilities. This construction will be demolished to accommodate the new project.
The new building will be a sixteen story tower........"
I don't know why everyone keeps doubting that DVC is coming to the Contemporary. I've seen half a dozen permits that state DVC at the Contemporary.
IMHO - It's not a question of if but when.

I think people doubt it because Eagle Pines was permitted, Drawings were released, and A press event was held to announce it to the public, and it was later cancled. Often Disney will go thru the permit process to make sure there will be no hang ups later on if they decide to proceed.
