Anyone ever feel weird or awkward at WDW? When I went with my GF for new years, I felt a bit weird about some of the things, like character meet and greets and so forth. Especially the "face" characters. Anyone think there's an upper age limit on things at WDW? (Some of the rides, character meals, character greetings, etc.)

I guess I am only 19 and I dont feel awkward at all. I guess disney has just grown onto me since I have been going there since I was 2. The only thing I don't do at WDW anymore is go to the parades at MK. Too boring. That is the time to hit the rides!

I'm actually looking forward to spectromagic when I next go, but I like lights and so forth and have only seen it once before.

I usually will watch the fireworks or whatever is going at the park I am at around closing time. I haven't seen the spectromagic show before, but I have seen Wishes and Illuminations many times.

I'm 20 and on our trip (July 2006) I did the character thing. i was slightly awkward about it before we left, but once we got there, I got into it :) I think Disney is for kids of all ages and no one should feel awkward about this stuff!

I'm 18 and I still sometimes do the whole character thing. Yeah it does feel a little bit awkward, but it's still fun!

I'm 22 and can't wait to get a picture with every character I can in May! I went in high school and at first I felt a little awkward but once I saw them I got excited and ran up to them. The characters loved taking pics with me b/c I got so excited.. lol! Don't worry.. just do what you want to do and have a blast :)

When I first went to Disney 2 years ago at 18 I felt very awkward. I was the only person over the age of 10 waiting in line to meet Ariel. Now, I live here and yes I do feel a bit weird at times but I've learned to let go of that. It's totally fun and I try to meet all the characters I can.

I think of it this way I know that many of the characters are my age. I know if I were them to see someone my own age so enthusiastic about Disney, characters, faith, trust, and pixie dust (hehe) I'd be thrilled that someone no matter how old they were still young at heart.

i'm 18 and i LOVE character time. i'm more comfortable if friends are with me, but i still ask my parents or whoever is with me if we can stop if i see some of my favorite characters.

sometimes the face characters seem off guard you want to talk to them since you're older, but i don't think they really care and they sure aren't judging you

i would imagine your comfort level is dependant on your self esteem level? If you are generally a shy person by nature, then a giant mickey or donald hugging you might be alittle uncomfortable.. :confused3

I am rather quiet normally, so I suppose that does factor in somewhat. I find the face characters a little bit weirder, just because I never know what to say. At least the others can't have conversations. I've also gotten weird looks from people in line... I guess and adult is taking up precious time their child could spend with the character? I do try to make my visits brief... quick autograph, couple of photos, and move on.

A few days ago the wife and I (22 and 21, respectively) went to MK. We both got in the pic with Tigger and autograph, and she got in the pic with Aladdin (face) and The Genie (suited), and I got their autographs. We haven't gotten to see any other characters, especially face, up close. Yes, we did feel a little silly. But, especially with face characters, the better the performer/actor they are, the easier it all is. Aladdin didn't blink an eye at us being "old" and his performance was excellent. That and I'm willing to push myself and my wife into these kind of situations because at WDW, you don't have to care one bit about what others might be thinking of you. Have fun.

When I go in May, I am bound and determined to take a picture with Prince Charming. I never really thought about the diff. btw. face and other characters but oh well.. I'm excited! :)

I'm almost 20, and I was just at WDW the week before christmas. The magic always grabs me whenever I get on disney property...that's one thing that is really great about Disney in general, some people never will out grow the magic...:yay:

I went to Epcot recently, the day I turned 22. I had so much fun, no awkwardness at all. I wanted to meet characters so badly (more badly than I can remember, maybe because my love of Disney has grown), but when I did see characters, we were either rushing to get to an attraction or there was a bit of a line.

When you're at Disney, everyone is a kid. Well, at least that's how I feel. :)

I felt awkward when I called to book the Cinderella character breakfast and told the operator it was 4 adults and no kids! But besides that, I always feel like a kid again as soon as I wlak into the gates. Last time I visited Epcot I was 22 and Mickey randomly walked up to me and gave me a kiss and I cried like a baby because I felt special. The "magic" makes you do weird things!

Myself and my best friend, 21, and my sister and her best friend, 16, all went down last summer. We weren't really dying to meet every character but we did mickey and goofy at MGM because there was no line and that was fun. Then we ended up taking a pic with King Louie (AK) because he basically waved us over, again he was kind of just chillin since no one was there, and so we went and took a few pics. It wasn't really awkward, just kind of random lol

What a great way to think about it!!:thumbsup2 Last time, I nearly cried when I met Minnie, and I felt like a dork! I'll for sure bare that in mind from now on, because there are a lot of characters that I still want to meet.:goodvibes

That happened to my roommate too! We were booking a dinner for the Princess Storybook Dinner thing (for four adults) and they were super surprised we didn't have any kids with us. I think it will be pretty hilarious when four, twenty year olds show up to dinner by themselves. :rotfl:

Is your dinner w/ the princesses in Norway at Epcot?

On the last trip, I waited to get a picture with Aurora, I knew I would probably get some weird looks but I didnt care. I'm a little kid inside and thats what Disney World should be about.

What I did when it was my turn, was took my hat off and bowed down in front of the princess. She went awwwwww.

I think so. We didn't really know anything about it when we booked it, but because it involved princesses we we're game.

This is from the Disney website.

"A feast in the royal palace that's fit for the royal palate! Join this regal gathering of Disney Princesses and Friends in a fairytale Norwegian castle for a breakfast of American cuisine served family-style. Later, enjoy a lunch or dinner that offers a sovereign menu of Norwegian specialties, both ´ la carte and from the buffet, crowned with a family-style dessert as sweet as a princess' smile."

(I just tried to post the link, but since I don't have ten posts it won't let me! But if you search 'Princess Storybook Dinner' in Google you should get the website)

Maybe they just recently started including lunch and dinner.

I did it! buffet isn't all that spectacular..you basically pay $25 a person to eat random fruit..cheese and goat crackers lol. The meals are VERY small but they're pretty good.

I can admit that prolly between the ages of 10-15 I was in the stage, "i'm too grown up to be with characters" but I have to admit, I'm almost 22 and last year, I went to WDW w/some friends for spring break and I had a blast. The year before we went to Liberty Tree and got pics with all the characters and had a blast. I'm looking forward to seeing Mickey and friends in May and taking as many pictures as possible, you never know when your last time will be at WDW so take advantage of it!!!!! As far as the parades go, we usually watch Spectro Magic and the water parade and skip the rest cuz we usually go in June or July when its crowded so we like to ride as much as possible, hopefully in May we will be able to watch more parades!!

I dont think they just included dinner recently because I only went to WDW once when i was 9 and I specifically remember eating dinner there. It was probably the most memorable part of the whole trip because it was the first time I met my cousins and we had a blast being immature at the table with my grandma. hehe:rolleyes1

Yup, I guess so!

I went to Universal Studios/IOA in February, and I saw a lot of characters. I felt like a kid as I went up to them, said hi to them/called them by their name, and took pictures with them, but it was fun. :)

I also noticed that I was analyzing their costumes and the heights of the characters that day. Since I've become interested in working with characters, I take special attention to those kinds of things now. ;)

Curious George was my favorite character that day - he is so adorable!

I can't wait to visit Universal for the first time, It will be so weird seeing Non-Disney characters in a park. That would be cool if they had a Doc Brown/Marty McFly character hah

I went to universal on my first trip to disneyland and i remember all the costumes weren't as good as the Disneyland characters at the same time... and they didn't play the role, they just wore the costume and posed for pics...
I would like to go to Universal Orlando to go on rides like MIB and Spiderman... and of course go on the Hulk and dueling dragons (saw that under construction when I was at Nickelodeon Studios (before they tore it down) getting filmed when I was on Figure It Out (family style) in fall of 1998
which is when we decided to stay for a week and do WDW

They do have a Doc Brown character!! He hangs around the Back to the Future ride, which makes sense.

The sad thing is, they are closing the BTTF ride because of a new Simpsons ride that is coming in the summer of 2007 (I think).

I think the first time it hit me that I wasn't a little girl in WDW anymore was when I was 18...the first characters I saw when I stepped into Magic Kingdom were Aladdin and Jasmine, so I was dying to get photos with them! Just when I was next in line I realized,

'I'm not one of these 5 year old kids! People must think I'm crazy...I mean, am I even allowed to do this anymore??'

It was too late to turn back, as soon as I started worrying the Disney couple were free again, and motioned for me to come over.
They were just wonderful!
They called me a princess, asked me the kindest questions about who my favorite Disney characters were, gave me autographs, photos, and hugs!
From that point on, I wasn't nervous anymore!

Sure, you don't know what others are thinking, but this is Disney World!
These Cast Members make it their business to brighten peoples' day! They always seem to love to see smiles, and have fans...If you show them the same enthusiasm you felt when you were five, it won't matter to them if you're 50! So get in there and have fun!:goodvibes

My last visit to WDW was when I was 18 (7 years ago...LOL). Two friends and I went for our senior spring break. Even though we were in that high school, 'I have to act way older than I am' stage, we put it on hold for Disney...LOL We got our pictures taken with every character we could find and rode every single ride!
Everyone knows that you get transformed into a 6 year old as soon as you walk through those gates! It happens to everyone...I don't think there's anything to feel awkward about.

My brother and I, whenever we even talk or think about WDW, we say that line! It's one of the more memorable quotes because you hear it so often!
