Now that it's getting a little closer to when the presentation schedule for the fall 2007 season will be released, I figured I would start up a post again asking if anyone is going to apply for fall 2007?
I am applying and I cannot wait! I keep checking to see if maybe they will release the presentation schedule early. Since Disney usually visits my school later in the semester, I am most likely going to view the e-presentation (I've already been to two other presentations in person). I'm looking forward to interviewing.
In the meantime, if anyone has livejournal and wants to join a community for fall 2007, the link is http://community.livejournal.com/wdwcpfall07/

I had to wait until the semester after I graduated as well, as my school wouldn't accept credits for it. I figured I might as well wait until then to go down, in case I wanted to stay down there for good. :P
I am applying for fall advantage, anyone else?
The wdwcollegeprogram.com site says that the presentation schedule will be released in February. Last year, it went up on January 20th though. I know people who interviewed by the beginning of February. Hopefully the same will happen this year!
Anyone know what roles they want to apply for?

How did you find out when your school has the presentation already? The website says that the presentation schedule won't be up until February.
I think a lot of people are planning on going down after they graduate. :) I am too!

It probably isn't complete. It rarely is this early. The Epresentation is up and running though. So if you want to go ahead and apply and interview, you can.

It's pretty good. I think the only things that would keep someone from being accepted are: not in good standing with school, having a bad record, and terming a program (alumni).

I would prefer to do the college program in the fall, but I think I'm going to talk to my advisor again to see if it would be better for me to do it after student teaching (which, if I didn't do the CP, would be in the fall!) I have mentioned doing the program every semester during my advising, and she thinks it would be a great opportunity...so we will see!

The presentation schedule is up!! I guess most of you know by now.....but I just found out today, so I was pretty psyched!!! :cool1:
The recruiters are coming to my school on February 28th. I don't know if I can wait till then (too excited), so I'm considering the e-presentation and mailing my application. I really want to do character performer, so I would have to go to an audition, so maybe it would be a good idea to get started early.

hey everyone. i need some help. i really REALLY want to do the cp, however it's more comlicated than just wanting to do it. i live at home right now and do NOT get along real great with my parents. i had finally decided that i wanted to just finish school and then get a full time job and get my butt out of here as fast possible. yet a part of me still really wants to do it. argh...i don't know what to do. i have looked at the schedule and the people don't come to my school until April. I'm one of those people that if i have too long of a wait i'll just keep going back and forth between what to do. please, opinions, would you go for it, or would you try and get out of your house as soon as possible to save whatever chance of a relationship you might have with your parents. thanks for your help!!

you gotta do what's best for you (and you are the only one who can determine what is best), but if you don't want to wait, you can watcch the epresentation and interview immediately. if you get offered, then you will have a date to look forward to.
the epresentaiton is available on disneycollegeprogram.com/epresentation

I hear you. Well, sort of anyway. For my first CP I had a HUGE disagreement with my parents. They didn't think I was ready to go away for so long at the time (I had applied during my first semester at school). To make a long story short they finally let me go, but I had to switch from Spring Advantage to Spring. But to get back to you, you would not have to wait for your school presentation. My 2nd CP I did the E-presentation (online presentation) because I wanted to audition and the audition was weeks before the presentation at school. Also, if you want to finish school quickly, do the CP right after you graduate. Good luck.

Anyone on here going to be a custodial worker or hospitality? If I work at the hotels, I would like to be a bellhop than a desk clerk. I'm not good when it comes to talking straight up with people to explain something. I'm better off organzining someone's luggage and deliver to the right room. If I choose hospitality, what is the likihood that I can make sure I be a bellhop.

0% Bellhop isn't an available position. The bell services aspect of hospitality is working phones, doing dispatch, and storing luggage for the cruiseline guests and magical express. You wouldn't be bringing it to the rooms.

Thanks for the tip. What kind of phone calls would I have to deal with and what is working dispatch exactly? I understand the whole organzing luggage for the Cruise Line/Mag Express
khancock
02-01-2007, 08:21 AM
phone calls would I have to deal with and what is working dispatch exactly?
Guest calls bell services requesting someone to pick up their bags. You call/radio (dispatch) a bell hop to go pick up their bags.
Some of the resorts are really spread out, so there could be someone running bags/guests to their room and you radio them to swing by another room to pick up bags.

Hi all !!!!! I applied for the PI that started in January but did not get it. I believe I got pretty close though. I interviewed four times with one actually in Orlando. I thought that maybe I would increase my odds for next time by attending the college program first. I think it would be alot of fun but I have one concern. What are the odds of getting a day shift. I heard that all of the college students generally get stuck with the night shifts. I want to do operations. I have two kids and think they need mom home at night. I don't mind weekends, I just don't want to be headed for work every night just as my kids come home from school. Does anyone know if I will doomed for nights??

Now I plan to watch the E-Presentation sometime this weekend, then call to schedule my phone interview, I wonder how leniant they are with the phone interviews, I would love to have my phone interview on next friday since I have no classes and don't have to work so it would be the most relaxing day for me.

Awesome!!! By the way, I had to take fall because they only let certain people get in on the fall quarter. I couldn't do the fall advantage because my kids don't get out of school until early June. That is when I will be moving down there permanently with my family. Is there really a difference between fall and fall advantage other than an extended time period? Look forward to meeting all of you.

I believe the auditions are general - what I mean by that is, you just go there, audition, and they place you into a character according to your height and their need. I would be happy being anybody.
I have also been reading around, and I hear that they measure up or down according to what they need. I am 5'1"....so I hope they measure me down. ;)
My WDWCP support recruiter told me that the dates and locations for the auditions should be up late next week (!!). :woohoo:

I have not been to an audition yet. From what my interviewer told me, they call the first part of the audition a "short movement exercise," not a dance - because it doesn't require any prior experience.
I believe there are characters in every height range? However, it says on the WDWCP website that "special consideration will be given to Disney Animated Character "look-alikes" and individuals 4' 8" - 5' and 6' - 6' 3"."
I posted some interview tips on the College Program Questions thread. Good luck on your interview!

Hey all!!! I received an e-mail today from the college program. It gave me the name of the person I should contact for questions and several other phone numbers to contact for other reasons. It also asked me to fill out a survey about my interview experience. The questions were pretty general. It did not say that I have been offered a position or anything but that I am still in the process. I just wanted to mention the e-mail because I wanted to know if everyone else received one. I applied all the way back on January 18th and it took a long time for me to hear back. I know people who interviewed the same time as me who STILL DIDN'T hear back, yet there are people interviewing last week and finding out already. Doesn't make much sense.
Anyway, if anyone else got accepted for fall advantage, can you tell me if you had problems with the job interest form? The auditions consist of 2 parts- animation and dance. For animation they tell you something to animate and you do that (for example, animate making a sandwich). I had 2 for my audition. Then comes the dance part. It goes from relatively easy to harder. You may also be called back for a puppet part.

Hey everyone...does any one know when the arrival date(s) are for the beginning of the Fall Advantage CP? What about the Fall CP? Thanks! Also...what if you applied for Fall and decide you want to do Fall Advantage. Is there a way to do that?

All I know is that for the fall advantage, it is May-January while Fall is August-January. I was just accepted for Fall Advantage, but the website is not listing any dates for me (hopefully tech will fix it soon since I e-mailed them the other day about it). I will post them here once I know.
You can't change the program that you are selected for once you apply for it. If you interviewed for fall and you were accepted for that, there is no way to change it. You can extend past January if you want, but you can't extend to make it so you leave earlier I don't think.
Oh and if you guys haven't done so yet and want to, please join the livejournal WDWCPFall07 community: http://community.livejournal.com/wdwcpfall07/. There's a bunch of cool stuff going on there, including AIM chats 3 times a week, a roommate search, a running list of programs, roles, and arrival dates, and more. It's just generally a good place to get to know other people who will be doing the program and to ask questions, get advice, and make friends. :)

hey! I do not have the dates I was offered right off hand but there were 4 sets of them. they all ended Jan 4th,2008. I am on Fall. I am starting on Sep. 3rd. That is the latest date to start. I *think* the others were around 8/13, 8/15, 8/22. I am not positive of the exact start dates because I don't have my stuff I wrote down with me but I do know the end date is correct!! Hope that helps!! I know the dates were all mid August through the very beginning of September! Good luck and pixie dust to all who are still waiting!

Wow! Two days without mail in a row. I can't stand it. It's bad enough when the mail comes and you don't get anything. But it's worse when the mail doesn't come and you are wondering if that special package is just at the post office waiting for you and those people are enjoying the day off instead of delivering my mail!!! Just kidding. But for real, waiting is worse when the mail doesn't come and your recruiter is probably off.

They were actually there today. :) I called about not having any arrival dates yet and spoke to my recruiter (didn't even know I had one because I never got an e-mail or anything) after being transferred by the first woman I was speaking to. I have to wait until the tech people get to it..

I just did my phone interview for Fall '07 this morning. And now I'm playing the waiting game...lol, anyway, good luck to everyone else who's planning on applying and everyone who's waiting for a response! I'm hoping for operations (attractions, of course ;)), character attendant, or merchandise. What's everyone else applying for?

Hey Johanna, I IMed you I hope you don't mind!!! Like I said I was wondering if someone has character as their first choice and wouldn't make it because of height or no vacancies etc. Do they get considered for other CP jobs or are they automatically out of the program? :smickey:

Thanks MickeyD! :) Good luck, and I hope you get Tower of Terror! I'm hoping for Haunted Mansion or Jungle Cruise myself (or maybe American Adventure in Epcot). A friend of mine did the program last fall, and she said I "have Adventure Land or Frontierland written all over [me]" so it'll be interesting to see where I'd be put if I got in and got attractions ;)
And hudie1311, another friend of mine who's doing the CP now tried out for character and didn't make it, but was still invited to the program as a character attendant. So no worries, if you don't make character, they'll still consider you for other roles :)

Of course not. I would love to hear from you. If people audition and don't make performer, they get placed in other roles. That is what happened with me. I auditioned and didn't make it. However, I was given character attendant. So good luck.

My recruiter said they don't like to release the percentages on how many people apply/get in/decline/etc. becuase then people start worrying and freaking out about the numbers or something. Thinking on it that way, maybe it is better if we don't know ;) (I'm freaking out enough just trying to figure out how to make time go faster...)

Just because you are told that you will know your status very soon doesn't necessarily mean it will arrive right away! :P I called at my 4 week mark and told me something was "in the mail." It took me another 2 days to get something... and it had been mailed out 5 days earlier than I received it, so you have to account for the whole mail system. :)

I e-mailed him first concerning a first e-mail saying I needed to turn in paperwork or something. He wrote back to tell me that he had everything he needed for me and just added the fact that I will know very soon about my status. I didn't ask at all. I guess I would wait until closer until the vacation and then call if you don't hear back. Some of us have been waiting for many weeks. I have been waiting for two weeks. Some got their acceptance in one week. I guess you really have no idea if you base it on what the rest of us have had happen. Good Luck!!! Have fun on your trip. I will be there Saturday but I was just there a week and a half ago and twice before already in 2007. I'm a junky that only lives about 2 1/2 hours away so I go all the time.

You are not going to believe this guys. I went to my mailbox and the envelope was there. I was so excited I could barely make it into the house to open it. It said I was accepted for quick service food and beverage. I did not even select that. In the interview he asked if I would be interested in that position and I said no. I worked many times in fast food and know that I would be so miserable in that position. If they do not change it I will have to decline. I want to be in operations or vacation planning or even something like that. Well I called and the line went straight to the answer machine so I don't know my fate yet. Wish me luck. I really want to experience this program but that position was probably the last one I would have picked second to custodial (because I have a weak stomach)

He is going to find my original paperwork with my selections on it and e-mail my recruiter to give him a "heads-up" so that he can attend to it Monday morning. I asked if this means that I am not accepted yet because I have to be reconsidered for the other roles. He said no. I'm not sure what is going to happen but I am a grown-up going to work for basically nothing so it needs to be a position that I am going to enjoy or I would rather wait. It sounds like everything will be just fine though. He seemed really concerned for my feelings and was really sorry for the mix-up. Wow!! It's like you know me. Anyway if you know me as far as Disney is concerned, you know me because Disney is me. Me and my two daughters are going to drive down there tomorrow, for the night, to Pop Century so they can go swimming and play for a while. I am 31 (32 in April) and I have two kids. I could have finished school when I was younger but I was single for some time and had to work two jobs. Also, I am a firm believer that children need their parents at home and that I had to wait until mine were older before I got to overwhelmed with myself. My kids are now 11 and 6. I still think they are too young to be without me alot but I have had a boyfriend for four years now and he is a great help so that I can begin to have a little life of my own again. Disney is going to be a great way to relieve a little stress and enjoy some time out of the house without worry. We are looking to live in Windemere, Wintergarden, or Ocoee. They seem to have the best schools and decent neighborhoods. It's close enough to Disney but not in the middle of the tourist areas. We haven't found a place yet but we are looking already. We were moving in June regardless of whether I went to the College program or not.

Just to let you know though, the role checklist does state: "Please read all role descriptions carefully. Check the boxes of the roles you are interested in pursuing. Please note, you may be considered for additional roles."
Maybe that is how you could have been put in that role, if it was not a mistake?

Okay, First, I just asked housing about the assessment fee. They wrote back and said that anyone not staying in Disney housing does not have to pay the fee but that we have to submit some sort of review about why we are not staying in housing. Does anyone know about this. ANYTHING? How do they know why you haven't paid the fee within two weeks. Second, I didn't see anything asking about the choices I would like to have for operations yet I keep hearing everyone talk about it. When and where do I select the choices I might like to have? Also, my dates are from September 5th to January 4th. I would have liked to start on the earlier dates but I'm not sure when school for kids start down there and would like to be sure I start after they begin school.

hey! are you sure about the fee? Because I have been emailing with a man from housing about how I will not bi in the apartments and he acted like I still had to pay the 75$. I will check into that!! also-they dont't let you pick where you want to be in your area. Operations could be many different places. Hey-I just realized that we are both in Operations and on the same schedule!! Also-elementary schools in that area start on August 20th. I picked the 5th because then I would have time to get them all settled in with school befoer my schedule gets crazy. Have you narrowed it down any to where you are going to move?

All I know is that I e-mailed housing and a guy named Jonathan wrote back saying that I don't have to pay if I'm not living in the housing but that I have to do some kind of review to not live on the property. I read on the website that the fee is for the activities at the apartments so I don't know why we would have to pay. I have not decided where to live yet. We are not moving until June. Anyway, the price of living is a good bit higher down there and so I think we should get an apartment but my other half is insisting on a house. I'm going to let him pick because I think we will get in over our head that way. Let me know if you find any good deals and I will do the same. BTW, are your kids boys or girls? How old are they?

Jonathan from housing wrote me back and said that I will do a review for my housing as soon as I can provide him with a local address. He said don't worry about the fee because he will submit that I don't have to pay a fee as soon as he reviews my paperwork. I'm still going to call my recruiter today regarding this issue to get a second opinion. There has to be a reason why they say you have to pay within two weeks and I don't want anything to jeopardize my position.

Hi everyone! I had my interview today, and I'm really excited! I hope I make it. 2 weeks puts me at home on spring break, but at least towards the end of it! I hope I get to see you all down there this fall. Good luck everyone!
Oh, and if anyone has information about the insurance thing, I'd like to know that too. I'm graduating in May, and my interviewer said that Disney would try to provide proof that I was a student so I could still stay on my parent's plan. If anyone has info, that would be great!

Good luck to you!!!! I received my acceptance letter 16 days after my interview. I think it kind of varies but it seems like they come near the end of the week. Anyway, it won't be any later than three weeks so you are closer everyday. Keep us posted. We all could use some enthusiam. Even those who are excepted already need something good to keep our spirits up while we wait. I don't start until September 5th so I have a long wait time.

Yeah zada82, I'm in Fall Advantage as well. Have you picked an arrival date yet? I haven't confirmed my date but my choices were the 16th (or 19th, forget which one) and the 23rd.
What exactly do you want to do in Operations? I talked about operating the Twilight Zone Tower ride with my interviewer but I know that doesn't guarantee me that position at all.

Wow I just got done reading all of this thread since I am really excited. I had my interview on Tuesday at 2:30PM and right now it is Sunday at 6:10AM so it isn't even a week yet but I am very freaked out about this. One question, they say you have to be a half-time student when you apply and that Disney cannot be your first school semester. I took one class during my Fall '06 term and now that I am doing Spring '07 I am taking 4 courses (full-time student) so I assume I qualify right?
I think I am just overreacting I am just excited. I live in Titusville, Florida and am only 1.5 hours away from Disney so I am a local. ^^ *Wonders if that will affect his chances* Anyway, I am going insane, can't keep my mind off it and all my midterm exams are all done so I can't do anything to keep my mind of this. (I got all A's on my mid-terms *does a little dance*) Anyway, thanks for listening to me rambling. I just can't stop. :P

Hi Jon,
Welcome to DISboards! To answer your first question, yes you do qualify for the Disney College Program. My hometown is about 45 minutes away from Titusville. Congrats on getting As on your midterms. :) It's been hard for me to concentrate on school work at times because the Disney CP has been on my mind constantly - I'm sure many others can relate! I applied for fall 2007 and am pending an audition right now.
Let us know if you have other questions! There are also WDWCP alumni on this board who can help, too.

Actually, I am doing the Fall program and I am arriving on September 5th. I was just curious about the date of May 23rd. I thought you guys would have been earlier than that. I'll be honest, I would love Rock n' Roller Coaster but other than that, I don't really have a preference. I love everything about Disney. One thing I can say is the rides and places I don't want to be like......Carousel of Progress (I can't stand that song), Body Wars and Mission Space (don't like closed-in spaces), and Star Tours (my stomach is turning already). Other than that, I would love to be pretty much anywhere else. Oh yea, I really don't want parking lots. How about anyone else? What would you guys like to do?

I'm doing Fall Advantage in Merchandise and I'm reallly hoping that I get to work near (or in) the World Showcase in Epcot. That would be really cool! I Studied Abroad in England last year and I told my interviewer that but I didn't specifically mention Epcot. Oh well, somewhere in the MK wouldn't be bad either so I guess I don't really care that much. I'm super excited though!

Well, while I am still waiting this is what I applied for.
I applied for Fall Advantage and chose several things. I chose for Transportation, Hospitality, Character Attendant, Merchandise, Operations, and Vacation Planner.
While I applied for all of those I really hope I get Operations but the others will do though I don't think they will let me do transportation. Too many speeding tickets. If I get accepted I am really hoping to start May 23 because I have several things to do on the 18th.

So when you do the online epresentation and the application, does it ask for your current or past gpa?? Cuz I am thinking of diong it now online but I might need to wait till grades come out to boost my gpa which sucks.
Azure Kaito
03-05-2007, 06:01 PM
From what I remember with the application it only asks what you are in college, Freshman etc., and then it asks when your first semester was and what your expected graduation date. It never actually asks for your GPA but I think Disney would ask your college what your GPA currently is to make sure you have a good standing with your school.
So either way, you are probably going to have your GPA checked one way or another.
Jon
uptown_girl44
03-05-2007, 06:17 PM
They don't ask for your GPA at all. The only way it matters is if your school decides to not give you credit because of it. I was questioning this too, so I emailed my interviewer and had her clear it up for me.

Before I did my interview I went to various boards trying to get an idea of questions they'd ask and I read about a few people who talked a lot in the forums and online actually picking the same arrival date and making plans to meet there or at the airport so they could room together, that's more what I'm talking about.
My goal is to get to know everyone here so I can be more familiar with some people I might end up living near or with.

Hey everyone!
I'm new to the boards... graduating senior applying for Fall Advantage. I've been waiting for this for about 4 years now!
I'm kinda bummed because I went to another campus for the presentation today, even though I've watched the e-presentation about 70 times, because I wanted an in-person interview rather than a phone interview. But after the presentation ended this afternoon, they just announced that everyone would be signing up for phone interviews.
So mine is tomorrow... ick. I could have done it weeks ago! Has this happened to anyone else?

Welcome caseface!
The campus presentations don't guarantee an in person interview, so that's not out of the ordinary for them to just up and inform you only phone interviews will be done.
I'm more a face to face person as well but honestly, I was a little glad to have done my interview over the phone where all they have to go on is your voice and answers.
When do you plan on interviewing?
dizlover21
03-06-2007, 09:32 PM
I've been to the on campus presentations twice before to get a feel for the program, but couldnt sign up yet becuase of housing leases, etc. The first time they were only signing ppl up for phone interviews, the second they were doing both phone and personal, so I think it depends on how much time they have or something..
I watched the e-presentation yesterday, same as the on campus one last fall. I was trying to apply but it gave me the "log in with sap" thing too. I emailed tech support, they said they had an emergency shut down thats taking a long time to fix. Still down today as of now. They will email me when its back up or I can keep trying. So dont worry about it. I was worried I'd have to go on campus to apply..
I waiting to apply and schedule my phone interview. I was going to wait to do the in person, but its not till April, and I want to get accepted asap. :)
I'm going to apply for role hopper, so QSFB, full service restarurant, operations, merch, etc. Any of those would be cool with me. I think the hopper would be cool too so I could experience more than one job.

I'm actually pretty lucky- my parents are going to help me buy Cobra for a year. And as for loans, I went to college in-state on scholarship, so I didn't take out any. Even if I had though, I think I'd still be doing the CP....I'm just trying to think of it as a break-even period of time.

99% of the interviews are done over the phone now. After the school presentation, the recruiter will collect your stuff and then schedule you for a telephone interview.
If you llook at the info on the official site regarding interview tips, everything is referencing telephone interviews.

Yeah, I went and finally confirmed my date (May 23) and everything. I'm having the same problem with that roommate selection thing though. I assumed it was because they need a day or two for my payment to go through but I don't know.
As for that question I saw about the work clothes, I believe I read somewhere that they provide you your 'costume' up to five per month (or week) that you can have cleaned and stuff like that. I could be wrong though.

When I went to my presentation on campus, one of the alumni said that the custodial position was her favorite job. She had tried a few other positions and said the custodial position was the most fun because you were able to walk around the park and interact with guests. You will be cleaning, but you will also be helping guests find their way around the park. The name does not sound that appealing, but that position allows you to have to most freedom in the park. You are lucky you got accepted, I would not pass this offer up because of the position title. Disney is a remarkable company, and will teach you so much more than how to empty a trash can. You will meet many people, and have an experience that will be remembered for the rest of your life. Just look at the positive side of this opportunity! I am sure you won't regret it.
I am currently waiting for my pending application to process through its final stage. I will be so grateful if I am accepted, no matter which position I receive. Hopefully you make the right decision. Best of Luck!!

I really need your input to help me make my decision. I have been accepted to the Disney College Program as custodial, but I am unsure wether to do it or not. Since I'll be spending five months cleaning I am worried that I may become bored and wish that I was back in school taking classes. I really just did this on a whim and it worked out and I am excited just reluctant because it is such a big decision.
I was hoping you might give me some encouragement and the pros and cons (if there are any) of the disney college program. I really need some help.

I definately had to write you back on this one. First of all, if it is only the position that you are worried about, I think you could probably talk to your recruiter about that. As far as the Disney Experience and whether it is worth it, DEFINATELY!!!!!!!! I think some of my most memorable moments have been with the custodial cast members. Retail, food service, attractions, transportation, etc. are busy as bees the whole day. There have been so many times that I have asked questions to the custodials (because they are always around and more than happy to chat) , and we would end up in long, interesting conversations about Disney parks, history, events, and many other things. I have even had some who had lots of Jokes to tell and trivia to ask. One of the most important jobs of the custodial is to entertain and educate the guests. The only reason I did not select that position is because I have a very weak stomach and you do occasionally have to clean a trash can. I think you just have cold feet and are a little worried about all of the changes you might have to experience. I can't speak for everyone, but MOST of the students who have taked part in the program have had some sort of positive experience. Maybe it was the school credit, or the guests, or the apartment activities, or the lifelong friends and memories that they acquired, but they would not trade what the learned for anything in the world. Also, most that I have talked to either came back for a second time in the college program, later applied for the professional internships, or came back to be with Disney permanently because of their experience with the college program. I hope I at least helped you to see what it could be for you so that you can better decide if this is the right decision for you. Good luck and hope to see you there!!!!!!!

So I just finished doing the Roommate Matching thing and apparently they really do want you to wait until at least 4 weeks before you leave. I'm the type of person who needs to do everything while I'm thinking about it and can or else I'll forget later, so I went ahead and did it thinking they'd just match me with someone else who did it early.
Not so. They didn't inform me whether or not I'd have to redo the thing later though. They gave me the option to redo, but they didn't say if I'd need to. I guess I'll just have to wait until 4 weeks before, which at this rate seems like forever from now....
I did notice they asked if you knew someone already in the program the give you the option to list their applicant number so they can match you together. That'd be pretty neat if I actually knew someone though....
Anyone else try the Roommate Matching thing yet?

I didn't try it yet. I am hoping to find a roommate beforehand to use their applicant number. I think that might be the best way, since the roommate notification thing only asks 4 questions... and I don't know if I want to be mathed based off of that.
If you go to the LJ community I run, we have a roommate search survey where you can try to find someone to room with based on a whole bunch of different things (age, room size preference, arrival date & program, tidy/messy, etc)- http://community.livejournal.com/wdwcpfall07/ . :D Good luck with getting a roommate, no matter which you decide to do.

I can confirm that custodial is pretty much the best job. I was a custodian at Downtown Disney for Fall 06.
My days consisted of walking around, interacting with guests, and pin trading.
Best job in my life.
My roomates were so jealous - they actually had to do work!

Anxiously waiting,
Jenn
Hi Jenn-
You know how you mentioned your status was "pending"...are you going to be doing an audition for a character performer in a few weeks? This is my best guess why you might be "pending" rather than already accepted. They'll probably tell you one way or the other after the audition so that they can tell you what role you have at the same time. Just a thought. Any one else have any ideas?

There will be a nightly AIM chat for us to discuss the college program. Invite yourself to chatroom "wdwcpfall07" to join.
You can also IM me directly at screen name "igo4yellin" if you have any questions about the college program experience. I have extensive knowledge about being a custodian for Disney.

The reason why I chose custodial was because of the freedom and guest interaction that you receive. I'm sure there will be some bad moments but the feeling of doing your own thing as long as you get your job done as been something I've been doing for my 6 years of work and I'm looking foward to continuing it again in Disney.

I read your message earlier and was just looking over this new info with my friend (hi stacey) who is doing the program this fall.
It has this in the FAQs.
I've completed the profile. Now what do I do?
About four weeks prior to your arrival date, we will attempt to match you with another participant who meets the basic requirements - same gender, both over 21 years of age or both under 21, and same arrival and departure dates.
We will send you an e-mail with your roommate's name and e-mail address. At that time, we encourage you to start getting to know each other! Please remember that this process is a pilot program, and we ask you to be flexible and patient and we work through the steps. We look forward to getting your feedback about the process later in your program.
They probably want to have more people in the system so they can get better matches.
Here is where I'm going. 100 people are on your arrival day so far. 50 are males and 50 are females. 25 females are over 21 and 25 are under.
So if they did the match now, they would have to put you with one of 24.
If they wait until closer to the arrival date, there is more people. More people allows better matches.
So let's say its 4 weeks out now and there are 600 people on your date. 300 are males. 300 are females. 150 are over 21. 150 are under.
Now you have 149 others that could be potential matches.
You have a much better chance of getting paired with someone who matches your "profile" with a group of 149 than with a group of 24.

So with the roommate matching program...do you get to put your housing preference (Chatham or Vista, number of roommates, etc) or is it totally random?
Azure Kaito
03-17-2007, 02:31 AM
From my noobie knowledge of when you arrive, they will most likely ask you what you want or if they don't you could ask for it, I hear they try to fill Vista up before going to Chatham but I do think you can specify at Check-In.

There are only 4 questions to answer.
If you would prefer 1-2 or 3-4 bedrooms.
A state you would prefer your roommate to be from.
A hobby off of a short list.
Your favorite type of music.
You will be matched with someone who is also the same sex, age (either over or under 21), and has the same arrival/departure date combo.

I don't know if that's true. Both times when I checked in, I was able to get Chatham. So I don't think it matters.

My son just got his acceptance letter earlier this week! He is in merchandising. The letter arrived just about 2 weeks after his telephone interview (he goes to school in PA). His college advisors told him that the CP at Disney would be a great thing to put on a job resume. Now he is waiting to hear from his advisors how many credits from the CP will be able to be accepted, because he really can't afford to take a semester off from school. Anyone else in merchandising?

I was in Merchandise during Fall 06. Personally it wasn't for me, as I left my retail days in high school and vowed never to return (haha) but it wasn't terrible. I loved my college program, and I miss it terribly ever single day.

I know what you mean about retail. I worked in the Disney Store for 5 years. I did enjoy it for the most part, especially working for Disney and meeting most of the guests, but the hour (nights and weekends) and constantly changing schedules were not too appealing.

I did merchandise Spring 2005 (with extension over the summer). It really is a good program to do (I have done it twice now). When I did merchandise, I mostly worked the registers, though I did do stocking every now and then. My main area of work was Fantasyland at MK, though I was also sent to work in Liberty Square, Adventureland, and Main Street. I have also worked in the Disney Store for 2 months.

What was the advanced section like...what types of dance steps did you have to perform...was it more ballet technique, jazz, or a combo of both? Also it says to wear tennis shoes...but can you wear your dance shoes if you want? I go for my audition Sunday...so any info you have would be great!

The choreographer was Gene, and the casting director was Serouya. It was just the two of them; they said Pittsburgh was their next stop. They were really wonderful.
Bellechick- You can definitely bring dance shoes. Dance sneakers would be best, although there were several people in regular jazz shoes. One girl wore character shoes, and although I admired her bravery, they weren't really necessary.
The advanced dance combination was short; only 4 counts of eight. There wasn't really any straight ballet technique in the audition, except maybe the very beginning of the advanced combo. For that, though, they made it very clear that they had seen that we had training and were able to move, and they were really looking for performance and facework. Overall, the dance combinations consisted of the musical theater and jazz styles you see in shows throughout the park.
I was really excited to make it to the advanced section (it's been 4 years since my many years of dance training, so it's nice to see I can still move haha), but I have to say, I don't really know how much it mattered. I mean, after all, they're not really looking for professional dancers here. I'd say the animation exercise during the main audition is probably the most important part. And of course, height plays a key role.
Good luck during your audition!

Sorry it took so long, I went home for the weekend.
I worked Merchandise in American Adventure in Epcot, so basically we did stock, we rotated positions (the outside carts, kiosk, inside the manner) and worked the register, straightened out the store. We also did Kidcot, which was my absolute FAVORITE position. I love working with kids.
My major is psychology, and I didn't take classes down there, which I'm happy about. Yes, I wound up graduating a semester later, but with the work schedule I had, I don't think that I could have possibly had a social life in Florida with school work after those long work hours.

Congratulations caseface and Disneygirl!!! How exciting!!
Now all we have to do is wait to get our packets in the mail. I emailed my support recruiter today, and he said that it should get here in 2-3 weeks. It's so hard to wait. :(

Thanks, Sehsun! I am SOOOO thrilled!!! What exactly are in the packets? Do they tell us our arrival dates and stuff? Also...when do we find out who we get to be friends with? You're so lucky that you already know that you're going to be friends with Mickey!!! That is AWESOME! Love your "iMickey" icon, by the way!
Talk to ya soon! :)

I am not exactly sure what is in the packets, but I'm sure it tells you about your role, what to prepare before you head down there, and more. Once we get them, we will be allowed to login to the website (yay!) and then choose our arrival date (what I am most eager to do next). I am not sure when we find out who we get to be friends with (other than what I was told) - maybe that info will be in the packet! :)
I'm glad you like my icon - please feel free to use it if you want. :)
If you are interested in the iDisney icons, PM me and I'll let you know where you can find some more (there is someone who spent a lot of time making them for others and does a fantastic job).

If you have any questions about "friends" just let me know (probably in a PM would be best).
