Last year I decided to change occupations since the body is getting long in the tooth(60 y.o.) and the previous career was getting too risky overseas. The new occupation is a bunch less money, but at least I stay at home.
The new boss gave me a bonus check at Christmas along with an envelope. I pitched the envelope in a desk drawer and forgot about it until this AM.
Well I opened the envelope this AM and there is a VISA and a thank you note.
I checked the balance on the card just a few minutes ago.... $5000.00. WOW What a shocker. The note said it was intended to be used to take the family to Disneyland this year. He is in India on vacation so I can not thank him until he gets back.(Kinda feel like a jerk by not opening sooner.)
I had written DL off this year because of the expense....DL and GC here we come in August 2007. This will definately help with the funding.
Still shocked,

I have to agree. Thanks for all the wishes. Since I started working here, his net income has risen about 40K/month. Glad he decided to share.

Christmas bonus? What's that? My only bonus was a very questionable loaf of some indetermined bread...I didn't dare investigate more! And that was from one of my students, not my boss. All of you other secondary teachers can empathize with me on this one...I'm not complaining about my job or my pay, mind you, but there's something so...predictable about it.
Congrats on the great gift. It shows there are many kind and caring people left in the world. I think one of them baked me some bread...

Do you have to go in August?? If you went during a season with the lowest prices, you could almost make 2 whole trips on that amount!!

Unfortunately, school is in the way. So August is my only choice at the present time. The 16 yo and 14 yo both take college classes along with their high school classes in a very structured advanced program which also includes summer school. The week of August 19th fits the bill...besides, since I did not have the money to start I feel the family should benefit..I am reserving a 2 bdr suite at GC so that can experience some of the finer things in life.
Thanks for the suggestions and have a great day.

Matter of fact we are. We are looking for a board certified Pulmonary Specialist, also boarded in Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. It is a great place to work, but long hours and the phone rings all night long.

Hey, I hear you but it's not only secondary teacher it's elementary ones too. Was thinking of leaving teaching until a friend of mine had a job one day and company down sized the next day and he had no job. We may not get monetary bonuses...but we have job security.:wizard: Yes, it took a tragedy on a friends part for me to realize that.

I could have continued on with the other job, but for the last 3 years I have been working in Iraq and Afstan. When you get to be my age it is time to growup and realize I am not a kid anymore. I have worked in the medical field off and on for 30 years and have always kept my education and licensure up to date. We work 10-12 days every day of the week(except weekends) and on call when not in the office. I can understand job security, sometimes better to stay put if you can not afford to take the risks.
I am going to have the time of my life when I get back to DL..
I thank everyone for their comments..there still are many good people in this world.
