Question for you younger people out there.....
Without doing a google search, simply answer yes or no.
Do you know what "Stonewall" is?
Would be interesting to see how much our younger brothers and sisters know about this subject.
Please just answer yes or no for the time being.....
Thanks!

No, I don't. I've never heard of it as a term before.
Not really a term. It's a place, and an event. It's also an important part of our history, and a real eye-opening story. I suggest looking for the book of the same name (or the cheesey movie based on said book will work too).
Your homework has been assigned, post your report at your convenience LOL

Stonewall was a series of riots in NYC protesting police raids on gay bars/nightclubs, right?
I could be wrong, but thats what I always thought it was.:confused3

And once again, Sparx moves to the front of the line.
The Stonewell riots were the beginning of the gay equal rights movement. It's an interesting part of our history and something that gay/lesbian (actually walks of life) youth of today should learn more about.

hey everyone
my name is Tyler James Donovan
I'm a 17 year old pre-op FTM from Lexington, KY
I used to be around here on a different name when I was 13 or so, but I've since dropped any bit of my female identity so that really isn't important anymore.
my AIM is XxXxyellowbird if anyone ever wants to talk.
Also Stonewall. Yes I know what it is. I have a big Stonewall sticker on my acoustic guitar.

Sorry about that really uber short post, earlier. I was on my friend's computer,so I didn't get to say much without them snatching it away and trying to say something naughty about me liking boys @_@. Gotta love the hags, right?
Anyways, now that I'm on my own computer, I can replace my little Phantom Avatar with a picture of my own. Then I can put a picture of my tattoo in my signature (which I'm quite proud of) and then I can tell you a little about myself.
My name is Brady, and like I said before, I am 17, and I'm a humongous fan of Disney. I go to the parks just about every two months, so if you've seen me around, you should send me a PM or something, hehe. I'm hoping to be living in Orlando and working at Disney by the near end of the Summer, which I'm uber excited for.
Normally, I'm an actor/singer, but I'm kind of writing a fantasy book right now in whatever spare time I have. My sig has my two main characters from the book. I also am not what you would call the "typical gay guy" I don't like the club scene, I don't drink, I don't plan on drinking or going to clubs, and someday I know I want to meet a guy who's the same way.... at least that would be nice, right?
Sorry Mr. Scissors, I have no myspace. Haha, it kinda ruined my life, so I unfortunately have nothing to offer you.

Hey Gold. :) At 14, just before I went into High School, I came out to my friends. I knew that I was definitely different when I was 6, but I didn't know if it was a good decision to tell anyone, since no one really talked about it. when I left middle school, however, I knew I didn't just want to go in being someone, and then having people find out later on that I was someone else, so I came out to my friends. After the first person I told, they said "Hold on, I have to go collect money from so and so" And I laughed so hard. They all knew way before me, and we had a big laugh about it, and now I'm closer with all my friends than I ever was before.
I know that your situation may be different, but hey, sometimes the stories are funny. I really really knew after I had talked personally with a gay guy. I know how personal the conversation can sometimes be, sooo... if you'd like to talk more in private, you could IM me on AIM or something. :)

Well, there's an out guy at my school that I think is very popular, but I don't know the social hiearchy at my school.
IcicleM
02-05-2007, 11:29 PM
Blah, at my school, popular doesn't really matter how you're treated, it's just who gets chosen at Homecoming and Prom, haha. To me, that stuff doesn't matter unless I'm nominated for Homecoming/Prom Queen, haha. (Joking of course) King would be fine, too, but it would never happen, and my date wouldn't get voted for either. I'm really the only gay guy at my school, and I'm the popular guy only because of the way I treat people. I hang out with every type of person there is, and I treat them all with respect and I make them laugh. I love to make people laugh and I love to listen to people who just need someone to talk to, so people come to me, and I greet them with open arms. It's just... who I am... ^_^'

Do they support you? I mean, do they accept who you are?
My parents knew what bisexuality was when I came out, but I still had to help them understand and try to explain to them what I was going through.
I adore people who are so accepting of themselves. That's why I would much rather spend time around gay/lesbian/bi/trans people. Trans people seem so happy, so acepting of themselves, and I love that in trans more than others. I would LOVE to meet and spend time with a trans in real life.
It's funny, beacuse I have friends in the school news, and one of them interviewed me around Valentines Day last year. One of the questons was: "What do you want in a boyfriend?"
I awnsered: "A Transvestite, or someone who accpets themselves. And they can't tell me they do, and try to hide it, beacuse I can tell. I don't fall for someone fake."
I am bi, but I have a preference twords Trans. I'm not really sure what that makes me.

it makes you, you
don't feel like you have to fit yourself into a box
no one should have to do that
as far as my parents go
they dont know about being trans
they know about everything else
and being from kentucky
and my mother being from mississippi
well
let's just say
its a mess.

They don't allow personal mail?
I've never thought about snail mail.
Maybe I should send a letter to my father.

I think it's something best to talk about when you see him. Sending a letter to him while he is away may make him feel stressed that he can not talk to you about it. You are 15? You still have plenty of time to tell him and a only in Feb you were questioning if you were gay. I say wait until the right time when you see him, there is no rush.

You'll have a grand time! Enjoy! :thumbsup2
So...hi. Name's Patti (I go by Axel online). I'm 15 and proudy bi. I live in NH. Sadly, I am out to everybody but my family (minus the odd cousin here or there). My entire family is really stric catholic, so I'm going to wait until I'm not super dependent on them to come out. Heh. They disapprove of boyfriends. I can't imagine how they'd react to meeting my ex-girlfriend.

Take care in the meantime, Ay Up?:thumbsup2

We learn about riots for black rights in school, I don't know why we're not learning about riots for gblt rights.
I'm not a part of the LGBT group (am an ally, though), but I wanted to comment upon this: Our college's history class surpised me with the amount of discussions we had on the LGBT rallies/riots/protests. It was the first time I'd ever heard of the Stonewall Riots (our high school's history just kind of...stunk.), and when I looked through our history book, I saw there was almost a whole chapter devoted to LGBT riots. (A whole chapter on black riots, too. Slave Riots got little...) I thoroughly enjoyed the lessons, and even got the teacher engaged in a discussion on whether gays should be allowed to wed (my view: YES, YES, YES. Love is love, end of.). I also found out that jobs can discriminate upon sexual orientation, as there is no statute in the discriminations laws of the EEOC against such. You can't discriminate based upon race, religion, culture, gender/sexual identification, age, etc, but you can, without being clued into the Consitution, upon sexuality. That is sad. My teacher thinks that, eventually, sexuality will be included in these statutes. I hope so.

It was the first time I'd ever heard of the Stonewall Riots .
Did they discuss the factor Judy Garland had on the Stonewall Riots at all? That piece of info was new even for me.

I want to come out to my father really badly, but I've gotten mixed feelings.
While he has said he would accept for whoever I am, he has said homophobic things. Maybe I should wait?

Always wait until you feel that you have the ability to be independant if the coming out doesn't go well. Take care now! :grouphug:

I suggest to come out when you feel comfortable with everything.
My father said the same thing, and he also has made homophobic comments. A TON OF THEM.
You do what feels right, hun.
And I'M FINALY BACK ON THE DISBOARDS!..I have NO idea why I stopped coming here, but I'm back!

Im 18, and have too been thinking about becoming more open with it, but I still wanna remain close with my family, and I know once its out, that will go with it. I guess its just something one has to decide, if acting to be another person earns love, is it really love at all? A person just gets to a point where they just dont care anymore what people think-

Another way of looking at it is that a person gets to a point where they realize that they really must be who they are, or they can be nothing real to anyone else. Take your time, never rush something so important, but do not disregard yourself either. In the long run, the truly long run, you are all you have. :grouphug:

Thanks! I was looking through the teen boards earlier & it just wasn't really doing it for me. Then I found this and I saw that most of the posts were from 2007 but I decided to post anyway. Stuff like this is worth reviving.
