Hi Everybody :wave2: I'm new over here.

I'm 27 Years old & I need to drop about 30 pounds ...I've just decided I'm ready to make the committment.

What can you tell me about Weight Watchers? I was thinking of joining online.
What do I get with that membership?
How has the POINTS system worked for everyone?

I'm a single mom of 2 so I'm going to need all the support I can get.

Thanks!

HI!! I do WW but I go to the meetings. My mom and I go and she has lost 41 pounds. I'm just getting started and I lost 6.6 pounds in the first week! I don't know much about the online part of the program, but I can tell you just about anything you want to know about the program itself! If you want to ask me some questions I would be more than happy to help!!

i have done WW 'on my own' and online. quite frankly i was more successful just on my own and using WISH for my support. have you been to www.dwlz.com -- great resource of WW info

search WISH too -- there have been LOTS of WW chatter. there is also a WW weekly group that i'm sure would welcome you and answer your specific questions.

online -- you get access to a journal, points calculator, activity calculator, food database, recipe builder, receipe archive, progress tracker, WW store to purchase their tools and food products, and probably more but that was all i utilitzed.

on my own -- i downloaded a PDA program for use of a journal, points and activity calculator. with that program you can also download food/restaraunt databases. i found it on www.dwlz.com message board section. PM me if you want more detailed instructions

or maybe you made a decision??

The most important thin to know about WW's is that you can pretty much eat what you want. That is what I love about it. You get a daily point allotment, and every food has a point value.

For instance, a medium banana is 2 points. You start the day with your points and deduct the points you eat in your journal. You get 35 extra flex points per week which you can use all at once(big night out), or divided them up daily (5 extra points a day) or ignore them (lose weight faster). I like to use my flex points for emergency situations.

For some people, going to the meetings is very important. I tried doing on my own and I always give up easier then if I had to go to a meeting and get on a scale and be accountable to someone else. Meetings are very helpful in learning new strategies, plus you will meet a lot people travelling the same road you are.

I have been on WW's off and on (mostly off) for 7 years now. This time, I mean it. My goal is to become a lifetime member and become a leader. If you have any questions, PM me.

Good luck with your decision!

If you do the WW on your own.....how do you know how many points you're supposed to eat to loose? I would love to just buy the points calculator & books on ebay or somewhere.

I love the idea that I can eat whatever I want and just put it towards my daily amount.

I have been a "loser" with WW several times! :goodvibes (ok, after the births of each of my 3 kids!) Now I'm back again to lose those few extra pounds that have crept back on over the last couple of years. I can honestly say that the WW points program almost seemed too simple to me when I first started it. No calories to count, no food groups to keep track of, nothing that is "taboo"...just whip out that little slide rule and off I went. It became almost like a game to me, trying to get the most "bang for my buck" if you will! Love the program, can't ever imagine myself following any other weight loss plan. :thumbsup2

I would also like to know the answer to this question. I would like to do WW, but do not have the money to pay monthly for signing up. How do I determine the amount of points that I can have a day?

Try this:

weightwatchen.com

On the right hand side, click on Points Calculator. This will tell you how many points you should have per day.

Good luck.

You're very welcome.

I started WW on Monday. Doing it on my own without meetings or online. I've done WW before, so I think I can do it.

I have a friend who lost 80 pounds and has kept it off for two years. She never attended one meeting. Just kept at it on her own. It does work.

I really don't have the extra money right now to sign up monthly ~ but I'd like to give it a shot. I think there are plenty of websites that give point values or calculate them for you....Do you think having the WW books is really beneficial? Maybe I'll check out Ebay or look for someone's old used ones.

I wish I could post a link; first go to "healthdiscovery.net", then click on "message board" at the top, then go to "newbie guidance" at at the top there is a stickey called "Useful Websites and Links". There are a tonne of great links that cover everyhting you need to know about WW. if you click on the link "Dotti's Basic Info about the Flex Plan". It will give you a pretty good overview on what the Weight Watchers plan is all about. I hope you can find it OK. :)
