Here's my Christmas Butter Cookie recipe:

Cream 1 cup butter
with 1/2 cup sugar
add 1 beaten egg
add 2 tsp. vanilla
Sift together 3 cups flour, 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/8 tsp. salt.

Stir dry ingredients into mixture gradually.

Refrigerate at least 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Roll out cookies to desired thickness over lightly floured surface with lightly floured rolling pin.

Bake at 350 degrees for 12 - 15 minutes.

Let cookies cool.

Frosting - powdered sugar (I prefer the 10 x stuff) and water (little at a time until desired consistency).

I frost them with a pastry brush. Maybe frost five at a time and add sprinkles or jimmies to jazz them up.

You can add a tiny bit of food coloring to make different color frosting, though I don't b/c the sprinkles show up great against the plain white frosting color.

Store in cookie tin.

That's it.

I am going to make them now. But I wanted to ask you madison66, what is 10 x stuff powdered sugar?

If you have a sweet tooth, I've tried these a number of times:

Sugar Cookies (for cut-outs)
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup margarine or butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
2-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Mix sugar, margarine, vanilla, almond extract and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Cover and refrigerate about 2 hours or until firm. Heat oven to 375F. roll half of dough 1/4-inch thick on floured surface. Cut desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie shees. Bake 7-9 minutes. Cool completely on wire rack. Decorate. Makes 5 dozen.

I think I omited the almond extract, but can't say for certain. For some reason I think that I rolled the dough out to less than 1/4-inch, more like 1/8.

I find powdered sugar in 4x and 10x variety...it's a determination on the packaging. Lets you know how many times the sugar was sifted 10x = 10 times.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the recipes! :) Want to try to make them with my 3 yr. old granddaughter when she comes to spend the night next week.. Thought she would get a kick out of that.. Will let her take them home to her mommy & daddy - as well as her other set of grandparents - and I didn't want them to end up tasting nasty - ha!
