View Full Version : Have you ever felt as though you've cheated?

I feel like a slimeball. Like I was unfaithful to my wife... :guilty:

We visited WDW for four days in December.
Although we were never huge Grand Floridian fans, we always thought they did an outstanding job at Christmas.
So, we did the unthinkable... We stayed at the GF instead of my beloved VWL. We love VWL, especially at Christmas, so we were nervous. We were actually hoping we didn't like the GF.

Well, the verdict is in. The Grand Floridian is now our Christmas destination. I just can't say enough about it. The gingerbread house, the orchestra playing Christmas tunes, the decorations, the concierge offerings, and on and on...

We visted WL/VWL, and I felt very guilty. The Lodge was truly beautiful. My wife and I actually are pondering two December trips next year so we can stay at both resorts.

As odd as it may sound, we still have no desire to stay at the GF during other times of the year, only Christmas.

With AKV coming on line, and the GF for the holidays, I'm afraid my VWL time will be cut to an unacceptable level. :sad2:

I don't know if I felt if I have cheated, but I have definately felt homesick while visiting other resorts...

DW and I constantly find ourselves comparing every other resort we stay at...

It's just not healthy!! :)

Know how you feel, sort of. We always take our post Turkey Day trip half at BCV or BWV and half at VWL. This last trip my DW suggested we stay at BCV or BWV the entire trip, an idea I wasn't crazy about. Turns out now that we are going to split our next post T-Day stay between BWV and the GF. I really wanted to spend time in a MK resort for the access, and DW has been itching to stay at the GF again ever since we stayed there on our honeymoon. It will be a great trip but I already feel like I'll miss the WL.

Shame, shame on you, MG!

This is a disaster of biblical proportions. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling. Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes...the dead rising from the grave. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria. :scared1:

This is a very serious defection from the VWL Lovers Club, of which you were a founding member! What is the world coming too?

We visited GF during this past Christmas and it is indeed very nice. It has a wonderful feel to it, though DW felt that some of the atmosphere/guests were a bit :snooty:

Of course, she then admitted that it was a great resort and paid it a wonderful compliment...said that it was a very nice "Wilderness Lodge Wannabe". :rotfl:

Pulleez! Nobody likes WL better than me but the GF is definitely a beautiful resort especially at Christmas. ::yes::

At least if you chose to cheat on the love of your life, you chose a real beauty!

I just don't know what we're going to do with you.

You won't get any grief from me, absolutely love the Grand Floridian anytime of the year, but Christmas, it is just the best!

Did you stay main building conceirge?

For us, any visit to WDW does include at least an afternoon at GF listening to the music and admiring it's beauty, but we've no desire to stay there. We take boat/monorail from VWL!

Go with the two holiday trips and enjoy yourselves!

You're not alone! We stayed at GF for 3 nights at the beginning of our 2 week Christmas vacation and we loved it! Unfortunately, we didn't do RPC this time, so I guess we'll just HAVE to go back to the Grand Floridian someday to do concierge! ;) Glad you had a great time!

I have to admit, though, I still loved my Boardwalk view 2-bedroom villa more!

Does this count: I find myself enjoying Marriott Grande Vista far more than my DVC Resorts. ?

We all have our guilty little pleasures.

GF is gorgeous at Christmas.

It's funny you say this because this was a concern of ours. Like your wife, we also noticed some marginal :snooty: when we visited in the past. We are relieved to report we didn't notice any trace of :snooty: while we stayed there.
I truly hope we aren't turning :snooty: , thus not noticing!

Yes, we stayed main building RPC concierge. I'm not sure what is different from Lodge concierge, though. :)

Why 2 trip, do a split stay at both.

Indeed this would be my first choice, however due to work & vacation schedules, two shorter trips is all that's possible... :sad2:

Trust me, cheating on your wife is WAY worse (orders of magnitude worse) than staying at the GF on points.

MG: We stayed at the GF three Christmas' ago and really enjoyed it too. But I have to admit that we still like the BWV more so we went back to the BWV's this year.

I guess you could say that we cheated but got back together again.;)

We split our time in 12/06 between the Poly and AKL. First time for both. We were devoted to BC and I wanted to try something new. We still think BC is tops, but will go back to Poly again. The view of MK was incredible.

Way back when they offered seven nights for the cost of four, we decided to take a second trip to WDW (we had just been there in mid-June at the BCV and AKL Concierge) and go around the end of July. We stayed at the GF. (I owed my husband a bundle for giving up smoking - made him the promise we could use the money we saved on the GF). We stayed in Sugar Loaf and thought it was really nice. A fancy studio if you must.

We had a great stay and still say that we will do it again in the future.

Not cheating by any means, MG. Just visiting the relatives.

I understand your pain. When AKV comes on board we will need 4 nights at each of the following: BCV, VWL, AKV. That is just about all of the Adventure season in December. And please lets not talk about GF where I have a promise to take my wife at some point in the future.

I agree with bobbiwoz......GF is a very nice place to visit, especially during the holidays, but, I have no desire to stay there.....however, DH feels differently. He really would like to stay for a few days one of these years.....don't know what the magnet is for him......he just really likes the place....so I would imagine one of these years we'll have a compromise and I will be staying at the GF at least for a few days. However, our entire family (
DH, myself, our 3 grown kids and 5 yr old grandson) all LOVE VWL.........can't wait to get there on the 13th.....our last few trips have been spent at BWV (1trip)and SSR (2 trips) so it's been 25 months since we stayed at VWL!!!!

:) GF is a place I'd like to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there... it's just...too grand... for my simple tastes. I like the coziness of the VWl. I really could spend a whole trip just hanging out in the lobby of the villas.
Glad you had a great trip MG.:)

NO... DON'T... It's a TRAP. If you don't know the answer already you're going to be in big trouble when you ask the question.

Seriously, picture it... "Honey... would it be worse of me to stay at the GF or to cheat on you?" What is the expression on her face? Don't do it. :sad2:

I just re-read this post and see the Dumbo71 enjoys Marriott Grande Vista, and guess where we're going next weekend? With a March UY, we don't book DVC stays within the last 2 months of the UY and DH had some free nights.:goodvibes We only booked a guest room, and we're so pleased to find out that not only will there be a small frig and microwave, but there will be real china plates and a king bed.

We're going to WL to rent bikes and have lunch over at Trails End at Ft. Wilderness. I don't imagine anything will supplant WL in our hearts, but I guess we're tempting fate.

Okay, I know VWL is still BY FAR my overall favorite resort.
We are planning four Disney trips in 2007:

March- Grand Californian
May- VB & VWL
October- VB & VWL
December- Grand Floridian

YES! 2 out of 4 trips include my beloved VWL!

Am I back in the club?? ;)

We stayed at GF on points in October and never again. I don't know what all the fuss is about. The room was nicer than a regular hotel room but not as nice as DVC. Housekeeping left a lot to be desired.

We do love the lobby, especially at Christmastime, but we can spend time there without staying at the resort.

I do feel guilty about something else. After we checked out of GF we checked into BCV - our home resort is OKW. Don't get me wrong I do love OKW and our next trip home is already scheduled, but we really liked BCV. I feel like a trader.
